[Q] Flashing T-Mobile radio onto at&t skyrocket - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I have a rooted and unlocked at&t skyrocket on jellybean 4.1.2 with very slow speeds, so I tried flashing the radios UCMC1 and UXUMA7 through cwm and nothing has changed. After messing with the APN settings a little my data is no longer working. It shows the bars but I can't get a connection. I have broken my back googling and searching forums on this matter but I can't seem to figure this out.
I just flashed the radio UVLI1 in the hopes that I wouldn't have to post this but now my bars are gone and have been replaced with a slashed circle. Any help please?
Edit: I flashed back to UCMC1 with the bars showing but still no data. Also, I just realized this should be in the Q&A but don't know how to delete the thread so I could post there instead.

1st , Welcome to xda
2nd , it is good that you're aware that it's the wrong place to ask , it should be in the Q and A section here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1401
3rd , you have to know what T-Mobile is using in your area ,
If LTE is rolled out , UCMC1 should work perfectly fine , since stock Skyrocket radios use 1700/2100 AWS bands for LTE (use this apn : fast.t-mobile.com)
If not , try one of the those radios :
Blaze 4G
Hercules T989
Or Galaxy Note T-Mobile (not so sure about this one) ...
Use this apn : epc.t-mobile.com
Search for those radio zips and make sure they are Jelly Bean compatible radio , or else they will not work with stock Skyrocket JB rom ... Always be careful when messing with radio , it can corrupt your device IMEI and/or brick it , make sure the radio you use is safe when used with Skyrocket..
Hope that helps...
And by the way , there are tons of infos on the stikies you should look at here

Thanks for the suggested radios. And apologies for that double post in the Q&A, I thought this thread would be locked/deleted because of the sticky in this section.
I figured out that changing the APN type was what caused me to lose the edge data, because I had changed it from default, supl, mms to internet + mms since I had seen that in another thread. Changing it back restored the edge.
By the way, I had obtained the aforementioned radios from here.

I tried flashing the Bell I757 from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2312596 but again no change in speed. I also tried flashing the UVMB1 Blaze radio from http://goo.im/devs/Void_Dweller/T769-UVMB1_modem.zip and I'm still on edge. Am I missing something here? Thanks again.

Set a new APN as :
Name : T-Mobile
APN : epc.t-mobile.com
Leave everything else and hit menu, save.
Select this APN
And you didn't answer about what service T-Mobile is providing in your area... If UCMC1,I757MUGMC3 or blaze radios didn't get you to at least 3G speeds then you have a problem somewhere else...

I did as you said with the APN but it seems l do not get any connection at all despite the bars being present, so I have to have the APN type at the bottom as default, supl, mms for the data to work.
I checked T-Mobile's website and it looks like I'm in the area with 2G with some spotty "satisfactory" signal strength areas. I would think that even with 2G that I'd get more than 0.04 Mbps download and 0.03 Mbps upload according to the speedtest app. Is there nothing I can do?

Asking somebody who's using T-Mobile in your area (a neighbor or a colleague) is better than just relying on the T-Mobile coverage map... And if you're sure that your area only gets 2G , use the stock JB UCMC1 radio and live happily with the 0.04 mb down you're getting... I would look to another carrier in such a case...

Ok, my only concern is that when I do change to another carrier in the future, would I experience slower data or data problems since I've already flashed a different radio? Would I have to flash back to the original one? I'm looking at this radio here for the original: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20157930
Thanks.

Man that's very basic stuff of course you can always flash whatever you want, including radios...
Having the skyrocket you're ofcourse limited to the 2 gsm networks in the states, T-Mobile or att (and their mvno's like Straighttalk, red pocket or such)... If T-Mobile is not good around you ,you have no choice other than at&t and in such a case flash the latest stock radio at that moment.. Now it's the ucmc1.. Use this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228292
[RADIO][UCMC1] For I727/I727R [09-APR-2013]
You're lucky not to be flamed for those basic questions, but be careful next time, there are really awful members around here who have no basic attitude or respect what so ever....

OP, i noticed that going into the carrier settings and manually choosing at&t instead of automatic has fixed this for me using a t-mobile straight talk connection....see if it works for you

I am using the at&t skyrocket on tmobile as well and find the samsung note modem to work the best leaving the apn settings alone.
T879UVLG3
Also make sure you check data roaming.

A Question about Unlocking and Rat Locked Radio

I have a Galaxy S II running the UCLE2 ICS Leak, I love the phone but there are many times I'm in a area with a real weak LTE Signal but a great HSPA Signal and times I'm in a 2G Only Area.
I know that the AT&T Modem is Locked so you can't switch off LTE or set it to 2G Only, If I got the Unlock code would that also remove the Rat lock? if not can you use a Rogers Radio on a AT&T Rom?
Thanks
No removing the sim lock will not help i believe the only radio that is unlocked is the rogers KJ7. Not sure what rom your using but some have a selection in the network screen i am using ChimeraVsSkyrocket_Beta2 and it has that option sorry i was trying to get you a screen shot but the usual buttons are not working
So is it safe to flash the rogers radio with me being the AT&T Radio?
If I flash the Rogers Radio with the AT&T APN's Should everything work as normal?
And If I decided to go back to UCLE2 Radio is it you like your basic flash with CWM or would I need to do the Samsung 1 Click to restore the phone to stock?
Thanks so much for your help
Rogers radio will work with att... though signal and speeds will be different. maybe better, maybe worse. its different for everyone.
and it will only work if the rom you are using has the option in it. such as a rogers rom or some other custom roms.
and flashing back to ucle is through cwm. exact same as when you flash the rogers radio...
i'd try the new rogers radio if i were you. it should be RAT unlocked. i get drastically better signal over every other radio (though i am a rogers user).
you may need to switch roms though. if thats the case i'd advise using the chimera rom. since its confirmed to have it. (not very many AT&T roms do.)
The latest rogers modem works with SKY ICS. I flashed it but the signal sucked so I went back to ULALC4(Best for me). Not sure if this is what your looking for but theres an options in your wireless network settings that allows you to use only your 2G networks. Actally has a sub title the suggests it saves battery. Might wanna check it out.

Don't double post
I think UCMC1 and UXUMA7 are ATT and Rogers radios respectively. UVLI1 is the T-Mobile SGS2 ICS radio, which may not work on your JellyBean rom.
Try UVMC6, which is the radio for T-Mobile's SGS2 Jelly Bean update. You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
Results can never be guaranteed, but this is the radio I use, and it has worked fine on every single rom I've tried, Touchwiz or AOSP, even in areas w/o the 1900Mhz refarm.

Your phone must have a custom recovery to flash radio files...
It has twrp... that counts right? It doesn't need to be rooted, does it? I'm a computer nerd... phones aren't my thing. Give a girl a break, lol.

It depends on what you observe using either of these..
Try them one by another and see which one is better (UCMC1 vs UX radio) in signal and data speeds ... Personally I couldn't find any difference in my location ... Both gave me the exact same signal and data speeds (TM LTE).

The UX gave me faster data speeds. Call clarity is about the same. I see 4G more than with the UC radio... I was wondering about the T-Mobile radio
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
T-Mobile radios would give you the ability to connect to T-Mobile 3G using AWS bands 1700/2100 Mhz Band4...And no LTE (or 4G) of course since the Hercules and Blaze (or the note one from TM) devices have no LTE radio chip...
If you live in an area in which T-Mobile deployed their new LTE(and most likely they already refarmed the PCS 1900 band), use UCMC1 or the UXMA7 radio, whichever you find better...Setting the apn to fast.t-mobile.com is essential for sure to get the service...
If you live in an area that T-Mobile is still at their 3G service (AWS bands for HSPA+) use the newest blaze JB radio...
Edit : when you say faster data speeds UX vs UC , any speed vs speed measurement you can share ? probably I didn't give each radio enough testing and jumped to conclude that they have same data speeds !
:good:

[Q] Need to root to use T-Mobile?

Alright, I've flashed the phone w/ the UVMC6 radio and still nothing. I'm using an AT&T branded Skyrocket. I was told that rooting wasn't necessary but have read and it appears that it's "RATLOCKED" and I'm probably going to have to root it to allow it to use any other network provider's network. Can someone please let me know if this is the case? I have to go to bed, but I guess I'll play around with it some more tomorrow. Thanks.
Re: Will the Skyrocket on T-Mobile be able to use their LTE network?
Using the i757 modem with LTE APN settings has worked for others here with the skyrocket. You'll have to manually enter the tmo apn settings I believe though.
See this thread if you haven't already... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507825
Also, you might not want to spam the forum with multiple posts about the same general topic. If all of your thoughts are contained in one thread, it's much easier for others to figure out what's going on, and it will be looked upon as much more polite in the eyes of other readers.

[Q] Which Radio for AWS on CM10.1?

Hi
I just bought an unlocked i727 (AT&T Skyrocket). In addition to unlocking it, the previous owner also modded the phone to work on AWS bands (HSDPA 1700/2100). I was all impressed by this feat, but now that I come to XDA, I find all the guy probably really did is flash the radio, which probably both unlocked the phone and enabled AWS (explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029650). Currently in "About phone", the Build Number is IMM76D.UCLF6 and the Baseband version says unknown.
The phone is running stock Android 4.0.4 (ICS), and I want to put on the latest CM10.1 stable build, but when I go to this page, it says I need a Jelly Bean radio: http://www.teamchopsticks.org/p/cm101-release-notes2.html
So now I'm worried that if I choose the wrong radio, I'll no longer have AWS bands, which I need since those are the only bands my carrier (Mobilicity) uses. Can someone please tell me which of the radios listed on the teamchopsticks blog I should use to keep the AWS bands on CM10? I'm guessing its the T-mobile version (UVMC6)...?
Thanks!
Edit: Alternatively, could I just install CM9 and leave the current radio as is? I don't really care if I have the latest android version, I just want to get rid of the stock AT&T rom and its associated bloatware.

You can't unlock the operator lock with a radio. You need both a specific radio and a specific firmware.
AWS support is not a special feature that can be enabled, afaik it's a standard function of this phone.
The Radios made specifically for this phone (Rogers & AT&T) should have full AWS support, I don't know about the others.
Also the TeamChopsticks site is mighty dated.
You should check out the official threads in General and Development.
Also these links are always good to have:

Hmmm... well do you know if its true that CM10 requires a "Jelly Bean Radio"?
Or am I better off just loading CM9? That way I shouldn't have to modify the radio, right?
Thanks!

You could try flashing CM9, then it might even say in what radio you have.
Yes, CM10 requires a Jellybean radio.
If you flash the Rogers radio in my signature or the AT&T radio you'll still have AWS and it won't relock your phone.
There's really no reason not to flash a JB radio and CM10.1.. you're not losing out on anything by doing it.

AWS band in HSDPA (or HSPA+) is not enabled in at&t or Roger's radios, since those 2 networks don't use it for HSDPA.. It's used for LTE (700,1700/2100)
AWS 1700/2100 band in HSDPA can be enabled by flashing T-Mobile blaze JB radio...It should work on cm10.1 since it is a JB radio...
So I spent pretty much all of yesterday reading up on the subject. Since we were under a tornado watch all day anyways, I really had nothing else to do!
After a while, I found the "secret codes" (listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492700), and punched in *#1234#. This told me that my radio was "T769-UVLB7", which I believe is the 4th one from the bottom on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400, ie the Blaze radio. That would make sense because it gels with my Android version (4.0.4). Anyways, googling that radio eventually led me to this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507825 which had a ton of useful information. So thats the radio mystery solved.
From the same info screen, I could see that my ROM was i727-UCLF6, a somewhat outdated stock ICS rom. So now I know what my phone's current status is in case I need to bring it back because my other combinations don't work for some reason.
So I think I've decided to go with the Pacman JB rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178402) and if it doesn't work with my current radio, I'll first try the updated Blaze radio, UVMB1, listed third in that same list I linked to above. If that doesn't work, I'll try the others in that list until I get a combination that does (probably starting with UCMC1). I'm also considering the Jedi Mind Trick T989 rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818305). I'll post results when I have them!
Thanks for the help everyone!

AWS (Advanced Wireless Service) protocol uses the 2100 for downlink
and the 1700 for uplink..
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Wireless_Services
The skyrocket has the 2100 in 3G and LTE
but 1700 is not enabled in 3G
Hence the AWS band (UMTS band 4) is not supported in 3G

Thank you for explaining this, I didn't know all the specifics.
You are correct, the Blaze radio disables LTE and enables AWS.
As you can see here 1700 is not in use in Europe. So the Blaze JB radio is of no use to me.
So in the end, the Pacman JB 4.2.2 ROM worked without a hitch. I did not have to flash the radio at all, it is still working as before.
Baseband still shows up as unknown (the nifty secret codes no longer work), and kernel is now 3.0.72 cyanogenmod.
The phone's working greatI love it when a plan comes together!
What speeds do you get currently on speed test app ?
If your goal is a rom with no bloatware you can debloate a stock tw one...Personally I can never live with cm camera...
At the moment, only about 1.5 MBps, but I am not in a good service area. Even so, everything seems to load quickly.
My only complaints so far would be the ROM itself... already crashed a couple of times, and it has a bizarre way of connecting to the computer (no USB storage mode).

So it turns out that it may noit have been the ROM after all, but GO Launcher. Everytime I get a new phone, I get sucked in by GO Launcher's sexy looks, but the result is always the same: lagginess and crashes. After switching to Apex launcher, things seem to have settled down.
In terms of the radio, I did some more traveling around today and I would have to say that reception is not as good as it is on my AWS Nexus S, so I might try some different radios after all. Just want to confirm though that if I use an i727 radio (like UCMC1) instead of a T989 radio (like the Blaze radio), I will no longer have access to AWS. Is that right?
Right now I'm thinking UVMB1 from here might be the first stop: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400
If you ask me , TW stock debloated and tweaked by me is my and always be my rom ...
For the reception, if you have to have the best reception for a network that uses AWS 1700/2100mhz bands for HSDPA/HSPA+ , the skyrocket is not your phone...Or you have to live with issues every now and then...
That's why your nexus s(the T version) has better reception it's a device with native 1700/2100 band support...
Try some other T mobile radios from the blaze,Hercules or galaxy note 1 (remeber you have to use jellybean radios with any jeallybean based rom) and see what gives you best reception, but again don't expect miracles...
Or another note, try a stock jb uvmc6 rom (flash a skyrocket kernel for the roation problem) and uvmc6 radio or another T-Mobile radio as a combo if it is better regarding general network performance...
Edit: answering your question, yes ..skyrocket or Roger's modem will not have 1700/2100 AWS HSPA connectivity...And that "first stop" was my first advice for you...UVMB1 radio...

Hey mahanddeem,
Thanks again for the help. Even after removing Go Launcher, I'm still getting a few random reboots/shutdowns per day - enough to annoy me. I did some searching and found out about the sticky button issue, but I have a feeling thats not my problem. Usually when the phone shuts down on its own, I have to remove the battery before the phone will turn on again. I'm not completely discounting the possibility that I have a sticky button, it just seems odd that the solution involves pulling the battery. That makes it seem more like a software/Rom issue to me, so I'm thinking of going back to a TW-based rom, but I don't want to restore my original stock with all its extra bloat-ware. All that to say that I was hoping you could tell me which de-bloated TW Rom you are using. I've found Embryo, which looks interesting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074328. Is that what you have?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm trying to avoid a full stock ROM, mostly because of the bloatware and branding (I can't stand seeing a corporate logo every time I start my phone!) - this is basically the reason I put a custom ROM on in the first place - plus the extra control of course. If this is the only thing that will stop my phone from randomly rebooting and shutting down though, then I'll have to consider it. Hopefully the stripped down TW version that you recommend will help though.

Heh heh true enough I still haven't tried flashing anything - I'm still educating myself. The last thing I want to do is start something I can't recover from!

I take it you don't know how to root a stock Rom and delete the bloatware yourself?

I'm pretty sure I could root it, that much seems within my limited skill set. But first determining HOW to remove the bloatware, and then WHICH things I can safely remove... That I'm not sure of. Besides, if there are already ROM's out there that have done this, why would I duplicate the effort? I'm all in favour of doing things just so I can learn how to do them, but the fact is I have other things I need to do with my time besides fiddling with my phone (family, work, motorbike.... and seemingly endless friggin yardwork!)

It's very simple, there are plenty of ways to remove bloat, plenty of guides to do it, and charts that show what things are and if you should remove them.
Embryo would be a nightmare for you. Read the thread. If you don't have the time to research and learn, you should not be flashing things on your phone.

Do your researches, it's not gonna happen that anyone here would put a long extensive guide for you so you can "take a look" at it during your coffee time...
Everybody here is learning everyday from others' posts, problems and discussions...So either you put some effort into learning or nobody's gonna spoon feed you..
As a clue , look at Mohan deodexed stock UCMC1,flash,root,start freezing apps that you know you'll not use...Then using any root explorer you can permanently uninstall system apps...And by the way you can use a custom boot animation even on stock, search for how to...

SGH-T727 has no high speed data!? Help please?

Hello. This may be a redundent problem and question thats been asked many times im sure. My in advance apoligies for I am new to this whole rooting and reprogramming with modified os andriod systems. I have a problem and if anyone can help or guide me in the proper directions, I would so greatly appreciate it. Let me first share what I have and what my issue is. Then any info you mau have I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
I have a att version samsung galaxy s2 Sgh-t727 skyrocket. I have factory unlocked it to use with my current local carrier Cincinnati Bell. It works with cin bell just fine in making calls. However, at best the internet is only E or G. I do have all apn settings correct. I think the problem is in the radio frequency there is a difference between the 2 service providers on thier technology way of connecting to 3 and 4g. Cinbell uses umts, wcdma, hspa and hsdpa with a bandwith of 1700 and 2100 mghz frequency connections. This att uses lte I believe. So since theres no lte service in my area offered, I believe the phone reverts to Edge gsm at best. Cincinnati Bell uses the same technology as T-Mobile as ive been told and they share the same towers in this region of ohio Kentucky and indiana. So with that said, is it possible this particular phone has all the proper connections and bandwiths but is locked to the original provider of the phone....being att in this case? And if it dont have all the proper frequency and bandwiths, then how do I flash it with T-Mobile radio signals and network technology so it can run using 3 and 4g speeds? Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thanks so much. Everyone have a great weekend.

I'd try some T-Mobile radios. See vincom's stickies.

Search for the following radios and try them :
I757MUGMC5
UVMC6
UVMB1
Try one after the other... Flash in cwm or twrp recoveries.Wipe cache after each radio flash and see what radio can give you the best results..
Wait on each radio for some time (let's say 15min) after reboot to settle down...
Double check your APN settings..
Your issue is exactly like somebody wants to use skyrocket on T-Mobile.. There's is big thread discussing that matter in the general section...
Good luck..
PS:Sometimes using a T-Mobile T989 rom probably would give you higher rates of success, especially your issue is the AWS bands in HSPA+
PS2:As a disclaimer , you're the only one who's responsible for any damages that may happen to your device , especially when dealing with radio and kernel , and as a side note , why Cincci Bell ? unless you have a strong reason (price,reception,etc..) I would think about T mobile itself , they are doing a good job in both expanding their LTE network as well as expanding their refamred 1900MHz spectrum which makes usage of stock AT&T radios possible , I use my Skyrocket on T mobile and get their LTE reception on UCMC1 without the hassle of trying radios and what not ...
