Floating Soft Keys is a simple app to avail you soft key functionality even in exanded desktop mode or if you don't want to wear out your hard buttons.
Floating Soft Keys makes use of Mark Wei's brilliant StandOut Library so if you like this app, please go and thank him in his thread if you haven't already.
FSK requires root to emulate input key events.
FSK is still in its initial phases so it might give some errors or cause some crashes. Please report to me and give logcat if possible. Also tell me your Android version. This will help make the app better.
MAKING THEMES FOR FSK v1.2+For FSK v1.2+, custom icon support has been added. To make your own custom icon theme, simply do the following:
1. Make 4 PNG images for the 4 buttons having square dimensions (default is 130x130)
2. The PNGs should be named as follows (without the quotes):
"back.png" (for back key)
"home.png" (for home key)
"menu.png" (for menu key)
"drag.png" (for the dragging button)NOTE: Names are case sensitive.
2. Put all these PNGs in one folder. Give the theme name to the folder (e.g. "Holo Keys" or "Black Keys" or "Alicia Keys")
3. Put this folder in the Floating Soft Keys folder found in your SD card (it will appear automatically after running the v1.2 app at least once)
Themes thus created can be used in the v1.2 app by selecting "Use custom icon". You will be prompted to select the icon.
If you would like to share your themes, post em in the thread or PM me. Due credit will be given.
As an example, attached below is a theme called "Bluish tint". You can download it, unzip it and place the "Bluish tint" folder (which is present inside the zip) in your Floating Soft Keys folder on your sdcard. Then you can use it as a theme by selecting "Use Custom Icons" in the app.
USER-CREATED THEMESHere I will post links to various themes created by you folks.
Shadowed White Navigation Keys by churapa
Grey icons by proctologist
Theme thread by Gil81
As of version 1.4.0, new icons were made default to suit the Holo theme. But if you liked the old icons better, you can still download em from this thread. The zip file has been attached.
Check the app out on the Play Store or check its code out on GitHub
Beautiful idea congratulations

For Android 4.1+, long-pressing the Menu icon opens up the recent apps. I am not sure about Android 4.0. But in 2.3 or below, it does not work.

Volume keys I probably can add, but I think power key is not allowed in Android for security concerns. I will check and let you know.
Can you please specify what caused the crash?? Also, which version of the app were you on?? Version 1.1.1 had a known bug that caused FC on older Android versions. That has been fixed in the latest version.

The force close is because long pressing home activates Google Now, which is not there in Gingerbread. Option to customize home long press action has been added in the new update (v1.3) which will be available on Play Store in an hour or so.
very useful. Thanks!
Usefull app...thankyou
installed on my gnex toro running pa 356
just installed and giving it a good run.thanks for the app, great idea adds some versatility to your device.
Simply perfect!
Runs without issues on Omega ROM v23 on my Galaxy S2 I9100!!
Thanks and good work!
Thanks OP this is just what I've been looking for to have a fullscreen experience on my phone and tablet. Is it possible in future to have to option to add custom buttons with custom actions? That would be awesome. Thanks
Well idea is good... since its in initial state of development lacks many basic feature... the response between touch and action is high.. around 1sec
Well dre are few suggestion but the main from my side is that the drag button could also act as expand button, i mean click on drag should expand or shrink the navibar...
Well i confirm Working great with
Samsung galaxy S2 I9100
Slimbean 4.2.2. Build 7
Dorimanx 9.34
Great job mate...!!! :good:
Didn't find any major bugs apart from some layout issues...
lovely app...
here's my wish list for next releases:
- option to hide cross icon (just make invisible)
- customizable press and long press options for all softkeys
- align keys in vertical position, i'd be great to use with one hand having keys on side of screen
- didn't try to import icons from famous navbar icons thread, i'd like to be able to import from there
Just what I've been after for my XOOM, great work :victory:
UUUUU looks nice
I am probably being stupid here but how do you enable these? Trying to use them on my Motorola Atrix which has a partially working screen but I can't use the Menu hardware button, this would solve the problem!
Anyway to start and stop this app using tasker?

UPDATE: Updated to show all white keys where needed
Alright, so I was bored and feeling productive… as you see that is a good thing! I have redone the original Droid X multi touch keyboard to a better black version with a special Droid Eye style voice level meter (that works so well!) This version only has been tested on the Droid X 2.2 Deodexed Rom so feel free to test it for your own device – I will go ahead and tell you how to load this on your device below….
below....
GRAB BOTH Files HERE with other MODS
*UPDATED METHOD*
1. Download Zip from website above....
2. Place on SD Card of device
3. Boot into recovery (clockwork recovery or other custom recovery)
4. Install Zip from SD Card
5. Locate "WJDKeyboardMod.zip.zip" and click install
6. Reboot and ENJOY
-If that didn't work try this!
*The working way I done it requires you to grab “root explorer” via the market - or any other methods *
Grab APK from site above....
1. Grab Apk and Throw it on your SD Card
2. Open Root Explorer and navigate to /system/apps/
3. Rename LatinIME.apk to LatinIME.bak (this will back it up in case of any problems so you can revert back to stock)
4. Navigate to your SD Card via Root Explorer
5. Long press “DroidX_Multi_WJD.apk” and click copy
6. Navigate back to /system/apps/ via Root Explorer
7. Rename “DroidX_Multi_WJD.apk” to “LatinIME.apk” then reboot or power cycle your device
8. When device loads open Root Explorer
9. Navigate to /system/apps/
10. Tap “LatinIME.apk and click install
11. Once installed go to your devices “settings” then to “Language & Keyboard
12. Check the box next to “Multi-touch Keyboard” and make sure that is the selected input method
13. Enjoy
*Some multi touch keyboards floating around are not done well - you will notice the "&" symbol on most are "&" instead and float of the key - this and many other incorrect coding - so I fixed it up in this one and made sure all the keys were correct woohoo*
awesome job on the keyboard, thanks! swype is my primary but i d/l this for use in terminal emulator etc.
btw, what theme are you using? it looks like a black version of vanilla android
That is pretty awesome! Can you skin one with more transparent keys?
This is very nice. Thanks for contribution.
Ok, I used terminal emulator to mount the system rw then I renamed LatinIME.apk to .bak, then copied the new LatinIME.apk into the system/app/ directory, rebooted, was unable to install from Astro (don't have root explorer, no money right now), it only gives me the option to uninstall. Help please.
Alright guys - updated new easier method - enjoy the KB - I can't currently customize the KB for anyone right now since this is actually part of a ROM I am currently in the works with but as you can see from my slight contributions, I am legit and wanted to get that out - since we all know I don't want to J$#% yah lol
Wanted to spread the love
installed, i am quite impressed. thanks for the contribution, i love it!

This maybe just the screen your on - try holding down the menu button while on homescreen - this will show trans on both landscape and portrait - some screens bring up a white bg to the keyboard so it isn't trans and I would have to edit those apps as well....

Ok, your right. I was testing in the browser, assumed if it worked anywhere it would be there, lol. Tested again in the notepad widget and it's all good.
Any chance of an identical (or as close as possible) theme for swype? Like a lot, swype is my primary keyboard.

EDIT: landscape screenshot courtesy of another fellow XDA member ("paulshields", scroll below to see his post):
Please note that I use LCD Density of 200 instead of the standard 240.
- Requires ROOT -
There are several sources where the Gingerbread keyboard APK and SO library can be downloaded from (e.g. [1], [2], [3], [4] and [5]), but personally I used this one:
http://fabdroid.com/goodies/Fabolous_GBKB_Fix.zip
IMPORTANT NOTE: this ZIP file is a ClockWork Recovery update file ==> DO NOT USE IT !!! (it will remove your system odex files) Just unzip and grab the APK and SO files.
Because the Galaxy Tab doesn't ship with LatinIME.apk and libjni_latinime.so by default, there is normally nothing to backup. DOUBLE-CHECK to make sure this assumption is correct !! (/system/app/ and /system/lib/) MAKE BACKUPS if necessary.
I used Root Explorer to transfer the APK and SO files from my SD card into their respective system folders, and I fixed the file permissions.
I then went to the system preferences, looked at all the settings for "Android Keyboard" (by the way, haptic feedback/vibration doesn't seem to work). IMPORTANT: select your language in the list and get familiar with the keyboard options BEFORE using it. Then I set the keyboard as the default input method (instead of Smart Keyboard Pro, which I normally use).
I then opened the note-taking app to test the keyboard. It's all working very well, no Force-Closes/crashes. There's a little more latency than Smart Keyboard Pro (I feel), but it's no big deal. It could be related to the handling of multitouch typing. Otherwise the auto-completion / word prediction is nice, so are the popup keys.
I still prefer Smart Keyboard Pro (I might as well, given I paid for it ), but Gingerbread's keyboard is a definite improvement over the stock Froyo one !!
Cheers, Dan
EDIT: when using APKs extracted from the emulator image (system.img, 50MB, download links can be found on XDA), it is recommended to edit /system/build.prop and change "ro.build.version.sdk" to 9 instead of 8 (and reboot).

You mean the "arrow keys" (LEFT, RIGHT, UP and DOWN) ? That's one of the many features from Smart Keyboard Pro that justify its purchase
EDIT: finger-swipe left or right on top the Smart Keyboard Pro, and press the bottom left corner key => this should show the arrows keypad (also check the preferences to see if it is activated).

I like the new editing options and it has nicer colours, though find the keys a bit small. Shame they can't be increased like in smart keyboard pro. Will run with it a bit longer to see if I can get used to it.

I use LCD density of 200 too so our captures match up .
Can't get it to do haptic touch despite setting it, but it's not something I usually turn on so no biggy.
well i installed the keyboard like u directed in the Verizon Galaxy Tab and it works perfect. Only downfall is the font is pretty small for a 7in screen. I dled the LCD Density app from market that requires root and changed it to 200 from default 240 and all my font for the whole device went much smaller but the keyboard did look better. Is there anyway to just change the LCD density for the keyboard to make that font bigger and not shrink the Whole Tab's font. Thanks for your help!
Confirm +1. No haptic. 2/3 the size of Samsung keyboard. Easier to use if you're used to an iphone or something with baby keys. Personally I need the bigger keys so its keyboard pro for me.

I couldn't find a note taking app I liked that worked on cm9, so made this. Figured i'd post it here incase someone else finds it useful.
Features multiple folders, insert pictures from camera/gallery (app can be opened directly from the gallery too). It uses the spen sdk so has the same pen type/colour/size chooser and image and text resize/move as the samsung apps.
Anyway this is v0.1 (alpha), only been tested on 29/5 cm9 nightly.

Corrected typos in settings
v0.5 (alpha)
Added version to about dialog
Removed PDF export, this will be re-added in a future version
Warning to users upgrading from v0.1 or v0.2
Unlike previous versions, v0.4 (and to a lesser extent v0.3) reserves folders and files beginning with a full stop for system use. If you have made any folders which begin with a full stop you will need to manually edit their name using a file manager.
Known issues
Switching from portrait to landscape or vice versa causes the canvas to be reset, deleting any unsaved changes. UPDATE: this has been fixed in v0.4.
The image resizing handles (blue box) are positioned to high, however image resizing still works, you just need to drag the corners of the image, not the corners off the blue box.
Just installed it and took it for a test drive. Seems to work well. I am not sure how it compares to smemo as I moved to CM9 fairly soon after obtaining my new note.
Anyway thanks and I'll give feedback after some more play. So far stylus control is good.
Just what I was looking for, thanks a lot!
It's so easy to insert pictures and make notes etc, and the result can be shared easily via email which was important to me.
Tested it in AOKP build 37 and is working fine, BTW can u make it to support multi-DPI?
with 240dpi, the menu is getting cluttered.
This app had a great potential especially for those of us who like using CM9/AOKP/AOSP roms. I only had 1 question, since it's developed using spen sdk, isit possible to have setting to change from right-handed to left-handed or vice-versa?
this is hepful for cm9 user. Thanks
Works really well. Thanks

@zeneziz I don't think it's possible, but if anyone knows otherwise shout up and I'll implement it .
Sounds really great! Does it support palm rejection? This is the only thing that currently keeps me at the stock ICS...
Edit: based on the SDK site, it should be possible:
New com.samsung.spen.lib.input package :
For both Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) versions of Android :
• Can now distinguish between a touch with a finger or the S Pen
• Side button status for compatibility
Not yet, i'm looking at implementing it though.

Only just noticed your edit .
I can stop the finger input by just overriding onTouchFinger and returning true. The problem with that is that whenever you move your finger/palm/hand it stops recognizing the s-pen input, and you have to lift the pen up and then put it back down for it to be recognized again. Obviously it's pretty much impossible to keep your hand still while writing.

Well I've just figured out I was wrong and it is possible lol, by adding in a customisable pen offset position. Won't have an update ready for a couple of days though.
YES YES YES on the widget OPTION. would love to switch to CM9 or even back to ICStunner but i use the S memo a lot and the S MEMO widget alot and would love that option.
Also the one where u press the button and tap the screen and takes the picture and opens up edit mode but that is utterly different then this but the widget option would be great!!!

Re: [APP][4.0+] App Docker v2.1 - The best popup sidebar laucher
Great app man. I love how you can choose different colors and sizes for the apps. But i did have a couple of problems.
Every time I tried to put the camera app in there it would give me the gallery app instead. Also I wish there was another way to close the docker without opening any of the apps for when i hit it accidentally.
My main problem with sidebar apps is that i hit them accidentally all the time. If you could figure out a way to pull this up without it just resting on the side or the bottom then i would definitely use it.

FAQ
Why I cannot uninstall Floating Toucher?
The "Lock screen" feature requires activating device administrator, you have to deactivate it in security settings before installing.
There are two ways to uninstall it:
1. Open floating toucher, go to settings page, find the "Uninstall" option. (Recommend)
2. First, go to "System settings" -> "Security settings" -> "Device administrators" deactivate "Floating Toucher", then uninstall Floating Toucher in a normal way.
How can I hide the floating button temporarily?
When you are doing something in full screen mode, and you don’t want to share the screen with any other apps, Please Long Press the floating button, to hide it to the status bar of the phone.
And if you need it back to screen, please tap it in the status bar, then Floating Toucher can be launched easily.

This is a nice tool and my first impression is that it does the job well. :good:
Do you plan to enable it for users to add widgets in the future? It would mean that frequently used ones would be available all the time instead of just on the home screen.
Awesome floating tools. More themes for it is good in the future.
BTW. using photo as point is a good idea
