Hi.
I a speed freak! If there is something I hate, is lag.
I therefore thought of using a better kernel for my G2x.
As I understand, some kernels can OC the cpu. Wow. That's cool, first of all.
Second - any conclusions about this? Is it safe? Does it really make a difference (i don't game on my G2x)?
THANKS!
Since you obviously don't know how to use the search function, I'll just tell you that it is perfectly safe to install a kernel and constantly run it at 1.5 Gh.
Go buy setcpu from the market to set your processor speed at Max, and leave it there. All the time. No matter what.

Haha, good answer..Or you can go and download CPU master for free. =)... But honestly overclocking is not good
There's no real speed difference when overclocking install a custom kernel but don't overclocking it its a waste of battery

risks? yes. it kills your battery faster, and battery life will drop. by battery life, i mean the amount of recharge/discharge cycles it normally will allow will drop.
pros? makes your phone much faster. and no its not a placebo. if you bump up your kernel from 1ghz to 1.5ghz, thats obviously a speed increase. how can it not be faster.

But also the risk at a constant 1.5 of overheating and burn out of the processor.
if you're a noob and don't know exactly what OC is, don't do that.
it can kill your battery and processor much faster, make you're phone unstable and accidentally overheat and burn out your processor, if you have a constant OC
processor life is worth the wait imo
I oc mine tops 1.2 and its as fast as it needs to be for my needs. I also bump up the minimal speed to about 500-800 cuz our g2x's should never be running that slow even when idle/screen off imo.

Hello,everyone....recently I overclock my desire s and thanks to many of you I received many useful information so I want to share impression how overclocking has improved performance and battery to help other like us to know what and how to use overclocking and governor....
So I start ....
I use Viper saga with tweaked kernel 3.x/ondemand with deadline/cpu min.245-max.1410
I noticed that my graphic is very good and everything works like a charm....for example in FIFA12 I noticed that even the shadow of all player are so intense and everything is so clear,it seems that improves my graphic and my phone is faster..I hope that overclocking to 1410 to not damaged my phone. So what configuration do you have ?

Set the governor to performance. Battery eater though. But u only can choose better battery life or smoother graphics, so make up ur mind and choose one
When playing with overclocking unstick 'set on boot'. So that it goes back to normal once reboot in case of any freeze. Overclock it based on ur desired value, experiment with it, slowly. increase the value step by step. Leave it for a day then increase again. If it freezes then u know ur phone's limit.

i have read that people say it's stable up to 1.5 GHz.
I have set mine to 1.3GHz to be on the safe side.
And set it to,on demand,so it only takes up more when it needs to.
setting it up to high speeds can result in a melt down, draining batteries and will shorten out the life of your phone even when stable for a couple of days so be aware of what your doing...
there is no best value for everyone, some say 1ghz is enough, some say 1.5 ghz is not enough.
so it depends on what you need, its a trial and error thing
u will get a fast response phone but battery life is sucs ... cant complain though
LOL? :what: how many threads must u made to ask a question? answer can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092673:D
why not just continue on your thread?

Never a good idea to overclock CPU more than 1.5 GHZ . That is the maximum stable frequency for our processor.
I use my phone at 1.2 GHZ.

What is the best application for overclock?
for example when I play a game to switch automatically to my desire frequency and governor? Now I have Cpu master but unfortunately i don't have more option for profile ....and is it possible to set frequency to 1300Mhz ?

If you want separate screen on/screen off profiles, I would recommend daemon controller app (with andrev_oc installed through the app).
If you want more profiles for different situations, setcpu is probably the only real option.
Setting to 1.3 GHz depends on the kernel you're using, not on the app.

i think your question shouldn't be, "how to overclock", cause apparently you have already overclocked =="
your question should be "overclocking problems"
about your problem, i prefer you to set the performance down to 1.2 again, overclocking actually harms your hardware and is usually dangerous.
If you really want to overclock your phone, with 1.3GHZ, restore back to your stock kernel, and wipe cache, flash, wipe cache again, then reboot, i think this should help
1.2 is more than just fine for me on S2+.

sometimes the device freezes when overloaded with some operations but after overclocking it frozen more than before
I underclock it to 800mhz and it works fine, no lags. A typical daily usage for me: texts, whatsapp, emails (3 accounts synced), Neutron music player (which is said to require 1K mhz), browsing, instagram, occasional youtube, rss feeds.
But then again, I don't play games or watch videos/movies on it. Maybe this is what's causing lags and freezes for you?

I've tried for a day when I first flashed that kernel. Decided that the increased battery drain wasn't worth it.
What about apps, how many do you have? Also, widgets? Should check on them, could be the case of too many of them constantly running in the background.
Edit: Ah, just thought of this. What about the cpu governor and i/o scheduler that you're using

I dont really comprehend you here. So you flashed the kernel and that's it? If so, now you need an app like "setcpu", "no frills cpu control", etc.

I use Viber, whatsapp, Email, facebook 24x7 and they keep running in thd back ground. Along with that I also play all the heavy big games like Real Racing 3, Fifa 12, Modern Combat 4 etc. I run all those games from my Ext SD card. Never faced any lag issue. I believe the specs of this phone are awesome and you don't really need to over clock or under clock it. Never freezes for me.

Seriously mate? It's so simple. Just set your desired frequency with the app.
And choose the governor e.g smartassv2, ondemandx, interactivd, etc. But avoid powersave and conservative since you don't want lags and choppy performance. Here's a guide to cpu governors: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017715

Thanks a lot brother may be i didn't explain it very well i have set the kernel and the frequency which is 1300 ondemand but apparently the device started to get slower than before overclocking that way i thought i might be ruining the phone by doing such a thing and it didn't get any better

Do not overclock your device above 1,5 GHz!
I am opening this thread because I am going crazy with my tablet.
I have N8010. I installed Hyperdrive and then Zeus kernel.
I have horrible lag when opening apps. I mean the empty white/black/whatever scree while the app loads.
And the battery life is horrible as well.
I have tried to play with the parameters, but to no avail.
Do you have any tips or better - any good kernel parameters that work best?
On n8000 i had such an effect when using some custom governors i.e. ondemand. Maybe you should reconsider your cpu settings? In my opinion pegasusq gives the best effect, as it is designed for quadcores, other governors may not support the algorithm for hotplugging every core separately and the cores frequency are linked or some cores are disabled. Seems the default governor choice is the most common error of kernel devs.
Also, you should try to clear /cache.

Voltage control (free app):

Or
Set CPU (not free app) with governor on demand or interactive from min 400 to max 1400/1600 mhz if OC'd should fix that lag. Start up the cpu controlling app of your [email protected] boot up if your want that performance speed and make sure to set your screen brightness just halfway on the bar. That way your battery can't run out too fast due to your screen being bright. Also if you have too many applications running try uninstalling one's you really don't need and freezing some others you aren't [email protected] the moment. Some of our favorite apps with the nicest looking UI uses the most memory to run which in turn can slow down any android phone/tablet.

I would guess you have an app or some such process that is using up resources. I run RLS2 and it's smooth and I easily get two days on a battery with moderate usage.
I highly recommend "better battery stats" to help identify what's going on. The CPU tab and processes tab will show what's going on at any time. For example, I watched ESPN on the tablet yesterday, then put it down after closing the app. When I came back a couple hours later, I found that the screen was on and the tablet very warm. Better battery stats showed that the ESPN app was still running in the background.

So I've been playing with some kernels and have been deciding between stock and checkm8. One thing that I noticed tho is that you can force all cores at 2.3ghz, but after about 50% load it automatically drops to 2ghz. And at 100% cpu load it drops again at 1.5ghz. is there anyway to stop this so it runs at 2.3 even at 100% load until a certain temp?
I noticed this on both stock and checkm8
What game are you trying to run that would need all cores at 100% so it doesn't lag?

Benches and such... Like I just don't want the cpu and gpu to throttle to a lower frequency just because of high load. I only want that to happen because of temps.
