S4 T-Mobile + 4.3 = "there is no su binary installed and supersu can not install it.
Did ODIN, then CFRoot (CF-Auto-Root-jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919), SuperSu fails with "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it"...
Anyone had luck getting SuperSU wrking on 4.3?

no, there's no working root at this time.

Thank you for the info.
I have to say this, the speed improvement on 4.3 is very noticeable. I am back to CM10.1 and it feels slow in comparison...

Directly from Android, no. You'll need root to do that. Just power off your device, when its turned off press and hold volume up, home and power at the same time. Flash from recovery.

So Android 4.3 without root. I have a costume recovery, CWM, I could simply just flash a new ROM and it wouldn't brick my S4?
Sorry for the newbie questions but I'm coming from zero experience.

Yup. Just do a wipe and flash whatever you like. As long as you have access to bootloader, and keep a backup it is very hard to brick your phone - Im new to samsung, but as i understand with Odin it is even harder to brick it.
On a side note, i had some issues getting it to mount /system - Turns out that it cant if the phone is plugged into the computer (i did a facepalm after trying ~3hours getting it to flash CM )

The thing is I backed up my old system before I flashed Android 4.3. Now CWM cant access the directory. I'm afraid if it can't access the directory then it wont be able to flash properly and I will for ever be stuck on bootloop.

Exactly. I tried searching for stock firmware, couldn't find one. So I thought either I find a way to restore. Or flash an already rooted ROM. You see my dilemma.

In any case - Back up your current (working) installation - There will be a way to get root in the future. Now you dont have to worry about not being able to use the phone (since you have a working backup), and you can goahead and flash something else.
Dont bother installing different recoveries, they all work just fine - And TWRP wont be able to restore from a CWM backup anyways..
But I dont understand why CWM cannot access your former backup.

That's actually genius. Don't know why I haven't thought of it earlier. Backup and experiment.
Thanks.
Chainfire is taking longer than usual. Its got me worried. I'm loving Stock Android, going to try flashing 4.2.2. Hopefully won't run into trouble.

If you find 4.2.2 vanilla(T-Mobile) let us know, I am looking for that ROM....

dont know if this will work for you but here goes. i have a T999L (T-Mobile LTE S3) i have twrp installed on it and i have slimbean 4.3 official build installed on it, i had the same issue with getting 4.3 rooted but i got it figured out first make sure in the developer options you have superuser allowed by adb and apps.
( if you don't see developer options in your settings menu
go to :Settings>About Phone> click on your build number several times until you get a toast that says your almost a developer keep clicking until it says it has been enabled)
then you will use motoChopper to push the exploit to get the superuser.apk added to the system/apps folder once you do this it won't work as they have somehow allowed access for the expoit to push the .apk but not push the binary to the system/xbin folder.
now pull the SU binary out of the motoChopper folder on your computer and place in on your sdcard
boot into TWRP, mount the file system and copy it from your sdcard to the system/xbin folder and voila you are done, when you go to reboot your device from TWRP it will ask you if you want to fix the Superuser permissions just skip and reboot
( all rights thanks and so on go to the original developer djrbliss and i do not take any credit for his work, nor did i get permission to modify his work, i tried but got no response so i modded it for myself to use and i am now sharing, all i did was swap the Superuser.apk and SU binaries he used in his exploit.) @djrbliss if you would like this post removed just let me know and i will pull it!
not sure why the list showed up as 1 1 1 2 but i think you get the point

[Q] Flash Stock and Unroot without USB possible? [SOLVED]

Hello Nexus friends!
Hope someone can help me:
Is there a way to flash my nexus 5 back to stock and unroot without USB?
I think my USB port is dead, it doesnt load and I m not able to connect it with any computer. I wiped it but nothing changed.
History:
I flashed and rooted my phone with Nexus Root Toolkit from stock (4.4.2 (KOT49H) i think) now after OTA updates its runnig 4.4.4 (KTU84P).
plz help!
regards
Mike
You could flash a stock recovery flashable ROM....would need root for that obviously.
As far as flashing stock recovery....not sure about that one. Maybe flashify can help? Never used it myself. You need a flashable stock recovery tho.
Also, the boot loader will be unlocked still, so that's kind of a dead giveaway. Nothing you can do about that without connecting to a computer for fastboot.
Need to know the full situation.
If you've lost root you NEED a custom recovery. If you have stock recovery, you NEED root.
OTA removes root and custom recovery.
Please give situation report.

I can walk you through it but I need to know for definite your current situation.
I need you to have either root, or a custom recovery.
To check custom recovery, hold vol down + power to boot to bootloader. Then use Volume up / down to navigate to "recovery" and press power to select. I want to see the recovery screen. Usually OTA will remove root and custom recovery.
Also, use root checker to check if you have root - I expect you will not have it.
First install SuperSU
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
Then install root checker

OK This means you have full stock rom and stock recovery. Only thing you have that you might not want is an unlocked bootloader, which you need root to fix. Do you want me to "Try" to and help you do tht or are you just going to leave it?
Are you sending it to google or LG?

Google will not reject warranty of hardware failure due to unlocked bootloader. LG might. If you bought it from google, it usuall goes to google, but not sure if changign country changes things. Best to ask google.
Only chance to lock bootloader is to get root by using towelroot. It may or may not work.
https://towelroot.com/tr.apk
Run the app. It is supposed to reboot but sometimes it does not. If it does not, reboot yourself. Then ipen SuperSU and check if it has root.
If it does have root, install bootunlocker https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker&hl=en - and reset tamper flag and lock bootloader. Then unroot using SuperSU.
If towelroot doesnt give you root, you cannot lock bootloader

Starting from stock 4.2.2 UK Tab 2 p5110

Hi guys,
Apologies first of all as I'm sure this has been asked over and over again but I'm still struggling to find a concrete route/guide to running custom roms starting from a stock device (Tab 2 10" P5110 JB 4.2.2).
As far as I understood I should do the following:
1. Install CF-Autoroot - However on CF website I read:
If you have locked bootloaders, flashing one of these will probably brick your device - with the exception of Nexus devices, which will usually automatically "OEM unlock" and wipe your data !
Do I need to worry about the above or can I proceed to install the CF-autoroot via Odin?
2. Install custom recovery as above method leaves with stock recovery - Question here is what is the best way to proceed at this point? Install recovery via rom manager or another method (PC Odin etc) ?
3. Install custom rom and enjoy and improved device
Please if someone could clarify the steps I need to take (exact file versions etc) from a fully stock 10" Tab 2 running 4.2.2 it would be greatly appreciated. Or link me to what I'm after in case I've missed this!
All the best,

1st, it will only root your mobile, if your purpose is to stay on stock and just delete the bloat wares. and run modded apps. you're good to go
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957165
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203309
just check you're using the file meant for your device only. this thread has a detailed view. and no, its safe as long as you're using the files meant exactly for your device.
2nd installing a custom recovery is the first choice and the best and smartest thing to do, cause if after rooting you did something stupid with the system files, then all your data might be lost, custom recovery helps you keep complete nandroid backup of your device which means almost everything is backed up (except media and external memory card), lets you flash custom rom and in case anything goes wrong, you access the custom recovery and bam, restore your backup, and you're back at the original state. or flash your new custom rom
3. yes install a custom rom after you backup your stock factory rom.
remember taking backup at every step from here on onward is the first rule.
good luck and have fun on xda
Hi Billysam,
Thanks for the speedy reply
I'm aiming to eventually run a nice custom rom but just want to get the rooting and custom firmware down first so as you mention I can do a full nandroid backup before moving on.
I had a look at the link you posted but you're right that leaves you with stock recovery which would be fine if I wasn't going to install a custom rom.
I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722745
So now I've got:
Odin 3.0.7
philz_touch_5.03.7-p5110.tar.md5
Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
Was going to install the above via Odin and then do a full backup, does that sound about right?
Cheers again!

Philz recovery is fine, but some custom roms requires twrp recovery, both are good. check which rom you're going to try and see if it says needs twrp, download that, if not philz is safe too and it's not much hard to switch.
Superuser app, you won't need unless the custom rom you're going to install doesn't have one already. most do. just get custom recovery installed, find a good custom rom, for your device, read instructions and other members who already tried it. don't rush. backup first.
small note- please click reply and then type your msg, it will quote and send me a notification as well. if you don't quote or don't hit thinks, I might not even get notified and see your msg. cheers

Yes, go with that. and you can change to twrp with rom manager. but most of the custom rom threads have the recoveries mentioned there and most of the time you will find updated once here on the page. check this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/10-inch-development
this is the place you will find all custom roms for your device and updated information. wherever you see P51xx , that rom works for your device as well.

Get into recovery first and try to backup if it does, you're fine, if it doesn't you can flash superuser zip inside recovery and try then backup.
it's not that risky.

I just gave it a try but looks like some driver issue going on with PC (Windows 10):

Just hangs when trying to install drivers (have latest Samsung USB drivers installed) and I've checked and Kies wasn't running, going to try on my Windows 7 PC and see if it's any better. Is there anything else I need installed I'm missing? Should have ADB stuff installed as recently used this laptop to connect to Fire TV.
Will keep thread updated.

it's getting hanged at installing drivers or is it trying to get update from the internet? might be issue with windows 10. check on windows 7

So after reading multiple posts of people saying the blue com status was the same as yellow (different due to software version) I decided to go ahead and try CF-Autoroot with my Tab 2 4.2.2 JB stock and this was SUCCESSFUL:

So for those of you wondering if it will work on latest stock firmware it does
Now I'm going to try get a custom recovery installed so I can do a full nandroid backup before I play with any roms.
Thanks all!

Installed Nougat, trying to re-root, TWRP reboots halfway when installing SuperSU

I updated to EMUI 5 with nougat, i think i lost my root. Went back to TWRP and about 60% of the way through the install phone reboots by itself with the phone not being rooted. Tried different superSU versions along with an adb sideload, same thing. Anyone have any idea what i'm doing wrong?

twrp is not yet able to flash supersu successfully, if u want to root then flash a patched boot.img from here https://mega.nz/#!69IlASwI!FjF5rhALGGA_tusum7FdXgnO1R45ZIpdrahNa0UXT-8
Root working with B360 (L09 only at the minute)
thanks to @Atarii
Reboot into bootloader mode
Extract files and "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Reboot into system
Install phh's SuperUser app from Play Store
OR
if u have twrp flash it thru twrp

Try this boot image. You can flash it from twrp. Do not clear the cache or davlik. Reboot and install the phh super user apk.

I am also trying to get root on an H8 FRD-L04. So does this boot.img file get flashed in twrp like any other zip file or do I need to choose different options in twrp to write it to the correct place?
Also can you tell me which version of twrp you are using? There seem to be several floating around on xda.
Have you had any other issues with apps that need root since you did this? I'd like to get my favorite xposed mods working on my H8.

Unzip the file first, that should leave you with bootr.img I think it's called. Make a backup just in case, but yes, flash it just like you would anything else, no need to wipe anything and no I did not change any settings.
I'm using TWRP 3.0.3 found here https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/development/twrp-t3566563
I have tried at least 5 apps that have needed root and have not had any issues. I haven't tried xposed yet though.

And so the bootr.img is 'pre-rooted" so I don't then need to flash "SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815-EMUI5.0.zip" or any other SU zip file, or format the Data partition as some other threads have mentioned, to get root, is that correct?

I did not format or wipe anything. I simply backed up my boot.img and flashed bootr.img. I did not flash anything else. After that, I rebooted and installed phh Superuser from the play store. That's it.

Works great, was a fun night of figuring this out together glad it worked out! Everything is functioning properly!
Just remember when you first load into TWRP you will need to go to wipe > format data and type yes.
This will erase all data so be sure to backup all your personal files to your SD card using the phone before you format. Then proceed to use the above instructions!
I got it flashed successfully and can get to it but it's asking for a decrypt password. I never set one up, so I'm not sure what to do. I still tried to format but it gives an error about inability to mount.
Edit - even with the error, it still has me set up Android again but it still wants a decrypt password and I can't mount.

Its normal. look at the other threads for twrp they always say to format the data after a reboot. Maybe add it to your tutorial thingy.

Create a IMG from kdz? Don't you just use the kdz in lg up or something to reflash?

That sounds like allot less pain in the ass. Can you give me a quick breakdown of how to reset into stock using the KDZ. Dont need go type paragraps or anything just a brief summary this is all new to me.
Heres a tutorial. Its made for the aristo 1 but im sure it should work with the aristo 2. Use the lg up program.here
Just make sure to use the kdz made for the aristo 2 that you already have.
Forgot you may need uppercut aswell. here sometimes it gives a error which uppercut fixes.
Has anyone tried any other cameras with this phone? I was thinking of trying to flash CameraNext or SnapDragon but I've never tried either on a stock rom, so I'm not sure whether I'd bootloop.

I've tried finding other LG camera apps but none would work. Let me know how CameraNext works (if it does).
OpenCamera is giving me terrible quality.
Bacon Camera seems ok.
Google Camera is ok, but limited.
That's all I've tried. I know this camera should be capable of some good pictures.
Edit - I found an APK only install for CameraNextMod v10. This might be the best we can get with this camera unless the zip versions are compatible. Here's a link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aLdiT1B2TcDFL0vfcmwYz6L7EdxqgFKj/view?usp=sharing

My device not showing in device manager and fastboot stuck on waiting for device

Alright, so i will try to make it as simple as possible
A while ago i wanted to custom rom my old samsung galaxy j5 because i found it and it had android 9, so i thought that it was time for a little upgrade
i tried to root it and i think i did it, but the device bricked afterwards
i unbricked it, and now its just the plain stock os. so here are the problems:
1. i cant install TWRP using odin, so i wanted to install it using abd and sdk (fastboot)
2. when i use abd it works fine, but when i type any command with fasboot, it just waits for the device even tho its connected
I watched a indian tutorial on how to fix that and u had to download a driver and thats where the main problem comes in
the device isnt showing in device manager!
i'd appreciate any help but i really wanna custom rom it and just install twrp. thanks!

Yes, I know. Download mode = Odin
There is no fastboot implementation on Samsung devices. You can't execute fastboot commands from a Win PC.

You may not boot into system!
This will overwrite TWRP with stock recovery. Boot straight from download mode into recovery.
