[Q] Sensation 4G WifiCalling and Lock Screen Issue - HTC Sensation

Ok, New user here. I am usually good at researching, I never post anything anywhere unless I really can't find the answer.
Not saying it isn't out there but I couldn't find it and I definitely looked...
I am tech Savy but I am not good with the Droid stuff. I have a problem with getting the WifiCalling. It is not even installed on my phone, nor do I know where to find it. Can anyone tell me how to install it and get it to work?
Also, when my screen is locked I can still take the notification bar and move it down. Why is that? When the screen is locked I want the notification bar at the top locked too....
Any opinions help.

1. Here is tmous WiFi calling patch(mod). Flash it in recovery and read all directions before doing so: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26117743
2. I don't know why you can access your status bar when your phone is locked... Maybe an HTC bug?

Thanks for the response. Is this some weird deal? Am I the only one experiencing this problem. I spent 3 days trying to figure out how to root this thing. I would hate to thing I did something funny...
I have the circle unlock on the bottom and if I drag the notification bar down it goes, I can then click anything and all the sudden I am unlocked. I am not a fan of Butt Dialing.... Could it be because my screen is broken? I understand that it is not likely but I am not sure how the software is attached to the touch screen.

Hmm...if you can access your notification bar on your lock screen, then it must be something in the settings. Look around in the settings and see if you have changed anything to make this happen.
Also, which ROM do you have?
I also have this problem where you have an option of changing screen brightness by sliding your finger horizontally across the notification bar, and I can change the brightness when I slide my finger horizontally across the top of the screen on my lock screen. It might be a bug for me (because I'm using cm 10.1), but if you are using the stock ROM, then stuff like that shouldn't happen. For you, it should be something in the settings that you have to change.

Isn't that a feature of cm? I'm pretty sure you can disable it though, just check the settings

I haven't used a stock ROM in a while but if I remember correctly its always done that starting with ICS. I think I've seen mods to disable that, so you might want to look around the forums..

Rom
The ROM is rmk-pyramid-stock_ics_3.32.401.3-v1, or at least that is the one that it is suppose to be. I would have loaded a different ROM but I couldn't pick a good one. I just wanted one that looks the most bad ass.
Also, as far as the settings I have not changed any. In all actuality the only thing I did was fix the mobile data connection and enable debugging..

[Q] Is anyone else having the following issues

I received my Sensation yesterday and I am running into some issues with it.
1) There are random instances where I will hit the power button to wake up my device and lock circle is in the middle of the screen and bottom half of the screen is all black and the device will not unlock.
I have been using the weather lockscreen when this happens after the last lockup I switched it back to the wallpaper lockscreen to see if I can duplicate it. So far I have been unable to duplicate the issue.
When this issue occurs all i can do is pull the battery.
2) When I move an app to the SD card and put a shortcut on my home screen then reboot my device the icon for the application that was move to the storage card disappears.
1. I noticed this too, its a bug that happens when the screen is locked in landscape mode. Unlock the screen by sliding where the little circle would have been normally. Then relock the screen in horizontal rotation.
2. This usually occurs if either the app got corrupt on the sd card or more likely the sd card is too slow in loading icons at boot. Whenever I had this issue, I just reset the Sensation and let it sit after a reboot for a few minutes before unlocking it.
I just got this today and was going to ask about it thanks for the workaround solution
the half screen lock issue
I've never had this issue and i can't duplicate it even when i lock the device in landscape. I would ask for a new device.

I'm using the weather lock screen since i got the phone ( three weeks ago ) and i've never had this prob. On the other hand i have a european sensation so maybe it's a tmo thing. I believe it's software related but anyway it is an issue. You can wait for an OTA and hope that it will fix it or you can ask for a replacement.

I can't duplicate it either, but I definitely had it. I had to touch where the ring normally was and drag to unlock. You could see the ring move on the upper half of the screen, although you were moving from the bottom. It wouldn't go away until I powered down and booted back up (not in fast boot).
My issue with the weather lockscreen is the ring will not respond when I touch it to unlock? I have to swipe/finesse at it a couple of times til I can get it to uplock?

can confirm this mainly on the weather lock but...i notice the lock randomly hard to unlock, have to do same and swipe a few times but everything else is snappy
Unable to duplicate. Have been using weather lock exclusively. Could be your selection of shortcuts?
I actually just seen a video on YouTube where the person had the issue you just spoke of.

Ive had this only on the weather lockcreen and only when ive replied to an Handcent message popup while the phone is locked. Like someone else posted if you pull up from where it should be it works but only a reboot sorts it.

[Q] Several Sensation Questions

I've had mine for nearly a week. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it and finally ditch the Grand Old HD2. I've managed to get many of my questions about this phone answered here over the last few days, but here are some I'm not convinced I know the answer to...perhaps someone can help:
- Can I adjust the number of rows/columns on Sense screens? I'd been using HyperDroid CM7 on my HD2 for a while, and seeing, like, 4 icons on the entire Sensation screen is corny/cartoony. I'd like to get more stuff squashed onto each screen.
- Can I add/remove Sense home screens? There are 7. I'd like to change that.
- Can I change or add more buttons to bottom or home screen? I see, from left to right, the apps, phone, and personalize buttons. I'd love to dump the personalize button, shrink the phone button, and add several more.
- I'm pretty sure many of the things I want to do are not possible with just an out of the box T-Mo Sensation and HTC Sense...so, are there apps that lets me do any of these things?
- Can I adjust when backlight goes off? I seem to be able to only adjust the amount of time the entire screen stays on.
- Auto-brightness is wacky. I'll just be sitting somewhere, in what seems like perfectly level/stable lighting conditions, and the screen just arbitrarily dims and brightens every few seconds.
- How do I get rid of that irritating page-by-page scrolling of apps list? I'd like one long, smooth-scrolling list. And is there a way to have a favorite apps list, other than placing them on the home screens?
- How do I turn off the dial/key press sounds when I'm dialing a phone number?
- I get a lot of static when I use my BT headset with the T-Mobile silicone case on the phone. If I take the phone out of the case, the call is much clearer. Any way to otherwise compensate (so I don't have to take the case off all the time)?
Thanks.
The quick answer to every question right now is no. The slightly longer answer is yes, but you will need to install a custom launcher: Launcher Pro or ADW come to mind first. They won't get rid of Sense and will actually use up more memory, but what you want will be accomplished. The really long answer is no, but soon. Most of what you want to change are things built into the HTC Rom. S-Off is supposedly coming soon. The great devs of the forum are hard at work. Once they do that, the bootloader will be unlocked, the cooks will do what they do, and we will begin to see custom Roms. Then you will have your removed bloatware, customizable anything, different launchers, stock-Sense lite-Sense full-CM7-MIUI-or anything else you can think of Roms.
The day is coming. We will have a true superphone any day now.
Best wishes.

for the backlight off thing go to settings->brightness and uncheck the box next to automatic brightness and adjust the slider to your liking
To take off the sound while dialing go to settings->sound and uncheck the box that says Audible touch tones
hope it helps
Thanks for the sound setting info. I know about the automatic brightness setting. Turning off doesn't fix the fact that automatic brightness doesn't seem to work.
Any idea how to, when using the Mail application, to move to Next or Previous messages? No swiping motion I'm trying is working, and the best I can find is Settings and then the arrow keys. It'd be much easier if there was a button or swipe right on the message screen itself.

Actually, I believe the internal portion of the antenna is different too. The Tmo Sensation have 4 internal contacts areas for antenna and the international unlock one has 3. People were claiming that to be the problem with the death grip reception issue. Idk if the newer unlocked versions have changed yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have moved across from the HD2 also and i find it irritating that i cant set both backlight off and power off as separate items.
Had the HD2 set that the backlight went off quite quickly to save juice, but it was set to not power down for one minute after that so just a quick screen press would bring it back up.
the Sensation powers down exactly 8 seconds after the screen dims and there is no setting to change that period !!

I don't have to reboot too often, but when I do, I usually get a "Set current time" pop-up message stating "Unable to detect your current time zone. Tab below to select a city." Then is has a menu with various time zones in it. I select Eastern Time, and click Done. But why does this keep coming up?
All the threads I see here and elsewhere on the internet (yes, I cheat on XDA) seem to assume the network is not providing the time information, so we need to uncheck the automatic time update setting. But why should I have to uncheck this? And how will that impact me when I go to another time zone?
Thanks.

you can somehow:
i used the "more icons widget" it lets you add 4 icons in a place of usually one.
So the 3x1 icons would consist of 11 small icons (+ 1 settings button) available from 1x2 to 1x4 and inverse. Works great on this screen

it costs a bit, but is worth it!

T-Mobile OTA Update Bug (Android 2.3.4, Software 1.45.531.1) Affects Lockscreen

Just discovered a very annoying bug with this new OTA update. I've had it for about an hour, and everything else has been good except for this.
With the lockscreen, my first shortcut icon (Phone Dialer) suddenly disappeared. I have no clue how to get it back.
When I try to re-assign it as a shortcut, it doesn't appear on the shortcuts menu.
I'm 1,000% positive that I did not erase the dialer icon in the lockscreen edit menu.
Anyways, this is just a heads up for some of you TmoUSA people who just got the OTA update.
And if anybody has any suggestions on how to prevent/fix this, or get back my phone dialer shortcut, I'd really appreciate it.
I got the phone dialer and it did not disappear from lock screen after the update.
I think this may be an isolated incident. But wow none the less. I would suggest a wipe brother.
Wow, that sucks to know that it's just me
Not that I would wish this problem on any of you, just kinda bothers me because I factory-resetted just yesterday
It's not just you. I still have the phone on my first button of the lock screen, but if I go to edit the lockscreen buttons, the first one is now blank, and Phone is not an option in the list of available apps to assign.
As long as I don't change it, it's good...
The EVO 3D had this problem with 2.3.3 at launch. HTC sent out a minor update to fix. Expect a minor update in the near future.
I wonder if I should just install a phone dialer app from the market and see if that can be a workaround.
What do you guys think?

If you save any changes from that screen you'll lose the icon.
Really, yikes. I think I like the 4 I have there now so I'll leave it alone for the time being.

I just got the update and yes, while I still have the Phone icon on my lockscreen, if I go to the Settings page for the screen the position is blank and "Phone" isn't an option in the list of programs to launch.
It looks like birgertime's work-around may be what you need, until HTC (hopefully) releases a fix for this.
In the mean time, I'm not going to change my lockscreen icons (not that I frequently do anyway).

i had the same issue, the phone (dialer) missing from menu and lock screen. I downloaded the shortcut from the link above and it worked. Thanx for the shortcut.
I just got the update and I don't have any issues with my lock screen. maybe try to change in your lock screen htc gives us like 6 to choose from 'm using the 1 that shows status updates from facebook and such.
also my wifi is working a lot better I still lose signal when I grip it in landscape mode but it doesn't lose signal completely and I can still use wi-fi even in landscape mode holding it with both hands
The workaround works great! Thanks for the help, everybody.
I was just reading this thread when I noticed that I had the same bug after changing the lockscreen icons. Will flashing a ROM over the update help?

[Q] Android Revolution HD - Turn off Lock screen issue

Hi
Apologies for not having this in the ARHD forum but I dont have the 10 posts yet to be able to post in developer forums.
I have come across and issue when using ARHD 6.2.1 and any app to turn off the lock screen such as No Lock, No Lock Screen or Delayed Lock.
Generally I would have the lock screen turned off (sense ring and security pattern) when I am at home and then turn it on when out or at work, but with this rom, or it could be ICS itself, whenever the lock screen is turned off and I hit any notification in the notification bar, the phone locks, I have to swipe the ring, input the pattern and then the screen is locked from then on, even through the no lock widget shows otherwise. It will then stay locked until I hit the no lock widget twice.
I have tried every no lock type app available, go locker, magic locker and none seem to be able to work around the issue. The description of Delayed Lock says this "Since ICS there seems to be an issue when using the "hide lock" method: When clicking on a notification, the lockscreen might be shown. Please use the "deactivate lock" method instead!" but this doesnt work either.
Has anyone else had the same problem and found a work around? Does anyone know if these apps work with Stock ICS on the galaxy nexus for example?
Any thoughts much appreciated, thanks.
There is an option in the ROM settings (in the security section) to disable to lock screen without the need for secondary apps.
It works like a charm.
You can switch back and forth between locked and not locked quickly and easily.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply. Do you mean settings\security\configure lock screen?
Thats the only option I can find in my ROM and if you configure the lock screen to off here, you have to re input it again to turn it on. Hardly quick and easy. It also doesnt bypass the lock ring which the secondary apps do, but maybe I'm missing something or ARHD is missing something from ICS.
What ROM are you running?
Settings/security/screen lock.
Its the top item on the menu in the security screen.
Choosr 'off'. Im on ARHD too and I use this setting so I guarentee it works. (Of coure I have Sense removed so maybe that is a factor)
It takes 2 seconds to set or disable the lock.

Oh right, back to square once then. Because I flashed that last night and while it gives me the (less functional) ics lock screen, it doesn't change any of my settings so I still can't change the lock screen as you suggest.
Can you tell me what phone and arhd version you have? Do you have everything else sense still on the phone?

Lock screen

What do I need to do to have the pattern lock be the only lock screen I have? I removed the sense lock screen but that puts the ics lock screen first and then the pattern unlock which is a complete waste of time.

Sense lock and pattern
Unfortunately I don't see a way to disable the HTC Sense lock since it it the only thing that protects the phones from input. You will have to unlock Sense before you can use whatever security settings you have applied.
The only thing I could see as a possiblity is removing the HTC Sense software but then what is the point of having the HTC One S? Most likely a custom ROM will be the only way to get the results you are looking for.
It is very easy to remove the sense lock screen. As I indicated, I already did that. Now the ics lockscreen comes before the pattern which makes no sense (pun not intended)

I know this might sound like a pain, but using the facial recognition will also work, if the recognition doesnt recognize it goes to a pattern unlock.
You still need to unlock using the sense unlock or the ics unlock first.
OP, I'm not really sure how this is supposed to work, and I've never seen this behaviour on any ROM, ICS or Gingerbread. The problem is, how is the phone supposed to know that you want to unlock if there is no lock screen?
Let's say the phone is sleeping and the screen is off. No way to unlock right now. So then I press the power button to wake the phone. That doesn't necessarily mean I want to unlock it. Maybe I want to check the time, or see if I have any notifications. There needs to be a further action to tell the phone I want to unlock, which is the purpose of the lockscreen.
The pattern lock is not designed to BE a lockscreen, it is designed to prevent people unlocking your phone who are not authorised to do so.

I completely disagree. If you press the power button, you want to use your phone. If you want to check the time, do that in the status bar or the fact that it displays on the pattern screen regardless. There is no point in having an action to tell the phone I want to unlock it.

You can disagree, but that's not the way that Android works, and it never has been. It's also not the way iPhone works, for that matter.
The fact that it has been this way "forever", isn't an argument for keeping it this way. What if we had to press the power button 20 times to wake it up? Would you like to keep it that way because it had always been that way? No, you would've said it was useless.
I want to use some sort of security, but I don't because the way it is now it just takes too much time.
If anyone made a lockscreen that way, that UI designer would probably get fired pretty quickly.
The fact is that the trend is going in completely the opposite direction of what you want; the trend as you can see from HTC's lockscreen and also the ICS lockscreen is to display more information on the lockscreen without having to unlock the phone (time, weather, notifications, music etc). That decision is the result of customer feedback and market research.
So the way the phone designers are looking at it is (in the case of using a pattern lock or face lock):
Step 1) Information screen (lock screen)
Step 2) Security screen
I think the closest to get to what you want to do is install something like volume wake + volume unlock, so you can press the key twice in quick succession to wake the phone and skip the first lock screen, and go to your pattern as fast as possible. There is no way that I know of to completely get rid of the lock screen totally.
It takes about 1/2 a second to swipe the ring to get to your pattern lock, so I think "it takes too much time" is a bit of an exaggeration.

That's not true, the lock screen as he described it is exactly how my nexus one worked in Android 2.1-3. It is far simpler and provides all the information needed to either power off the screen or continue to unlock, in one step.

I have always used a hidden lock screen with gesture unlock. So when I hit my power button, I see some basic information. No indication it is a security or lock screen, until I enter my special gesture to unlock the phone.
I agree with the OP, there needs to be more options. Can't wait for CM 9...

Android has NOT always been this way, CM7 definitely had this behaviour. Ie no pattern unlock = ICS lock screen. If you have a pattern lock, the ICS screen does not get used.
So + 1 for the op on this, I really can't stand having to unlock twice to use my phone, but I still want the security of the pattern unlock or the number lock or the face unlock.... Pleeeease!
OK, I admit: I was completely wrong. Very sorry.
I tried this on AOSP Gingerbread and ICS, and in both cases, the pattern lock is part of the lockscreen that comes on when you turn on the screen, as OP said.
The problem that you have is that the pattern unlock HTC's pattern unlock app, it is not the normal Android pattern unlock (you can tell by the icon design, fonts etc). So it can't integrate with the stock lockscreen.
The only way to do what you want is to get rid of Sense 100% (not just hiding it), and that means use an AOSP-based ROM such as CM9, AOKP or "JollyRancher".

Thats what I hear! LeeDroid told me pretty much the same.. I normally would have jumped to go AOSP, but Sense isnt so heavy now and I quite like the framework, i.e the copy paste stuff, the browser seems to be more capable with handling frames etc.. I have changed my launcher, so I now get pretty much the best of both worlds!
But damn that forced lock screen!
Bump

The answer is already there at the end of my last post. What you want is not possible on a sense rom, so go install CM9.
