I've been all over the place to find the answer but haven't had any luck and hope that someone can help. I am trying to update my Verizon Galaxy S3 to the VRBMF1 firmware (http://invisiblek.org/d2firmware.html). The links in the developer’s forums from the OP all go to ZIP files (i.e., http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788313) but the MD5 (for ODIN to flash the firmware) isn’t within the ZIP itself (http://invisiblek.org/sch-i535/firmware/d2vzw_VRBMF1_firmware.zip) and ODIN doesn't want to work with a ZIP file. I’m running JB 4.1.2 De0dex VRBMF1 ROM and want to bring my modem up to date. Are those ZIP files in the thread supposed to be flashed with TWRP or another recovery or can I use ODIN to do it?
Thanks in advance,
UCG
Flash the firmware zip with TWRP or CWM - hence "recovery-flashable." Odin files are usually not zips.

New to Android and spent many days reading here and on other sites before recently rooting My Verizon Galaxy S3. It has TWRP Recovery, but still using Stock Rom. I don't know if I will install a custom rom or not. I do know that there will be at least one more OTA update for this phone. Which gives me two choices; block the OTA update to prevent it from being pushed to my phone OR unroot and use Odin to flash back to stock and take the OTA.
I believe that I can block the OTA by using "TB Pro" to freeze the correct update file, which I think is "SDM 1.0" - is this correct? If I go back, what is the most compatible Odin Version to use with the Verizon SG-3?

Idk if we'll see another OTA but I like your enthusiasm. Yes, that is correct about TB. You would use the VRBMB1 stock tar to flash in Odin to revert back to out of box factory setup. You would use Odin 3.07. Once that tar is flashed, you'll receive an OTA shortly after rebooting into the rom. It would be for VRBMF1 4.1.2 which is the latest OTA.

Thank you for that information
Hi all, so like a lot of overzealous flashers I loaded up the early release kk rom and flashed the n8000 bootloader on my n8010. Now I would like to reflash my device with a original firmware with odin. But as most of you know you can't flash original 8010 firmware if you have the 8000 bootloader... I saw somewhere that I could unpack the original rom and remove some files then repack it as a tar file for flashing through odin.
I can't find the original post so I was hoping someone could help me with the info about what I need to remove from the factory Img...
Thanks

Would really like to get my 8013 back. Any ideas?
Hey all.
I have an Australian SM-G920I on Telstra and have recently rooted using the CF Auto Root method (successfully). I tried flashing TWRP 2.8.6.0 the other day and it wouldn't work. Browsing some threads on here and @Hero mentioned he managed to get TWRP to work once he updated the firmware. However, I can't use the OTA update method as it says that I've modified my OS in an unauthorised way.
Help?
Like in the case of the nexus 6, with lollipop some changes were introduced to the ota checklist procedure. If ANY system files or recovery are modified the ota will fail.
Nothing short of using Odin to go back to 100 %stock will help you. ( and that's assuming Knox plays no role in the ota)

Odin is your only bet to update firmware if you're rooted. The good thing is you can usually update radio (which imo is the most important thing) separately via Odin without having to flash the entire package.
I downloaded this firmware https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934555710
How do I go about flashing it? I've unzipped the files onto my computer but can't find the .tar file to flash with Odin.
Hi! Guys I'm using the tmobile Gs6 do I need to update my firmware? If yes which firmware do I want to update it too. Thanks

okay so my Samsung tab3 lite was rooted but I did something and now it is stuck in CWM-based Recovery v6.0.4.8 and I have the basic android ROM downloaded on my computer and not sure how to fix this problem Is it possible for me to put the ROM on my sd card then install zip on my tablet? I have tired odin but it can never find my ROM
Any help would be amazing!
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. You are on the right track to Odin the stock firmware to get your device working again. But you need the stock firmware, not a rom zip. If you've downloaded the stock firmware it does download in a zip format but you need to extract that so you end up with a .tar.md5 file. Use that in Odin. Also see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3. It's the forum for the tab 3 and does have some information for the lite version.

I have downloaded the firmware but odin does not see the firmware at all not sure what I am doing wrong but could I put the firmware on my sd card then put it in my tablet and install zip?
Have you extracted the firmware zip? Use winrar or 7-zip. You need to use a .tar.md5 file in Odin. That's what you'll get if you extract the stock firmware .zip. Use that in the PDA or AP slot in Odin, depending on what version of Odin you're using. See this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...08-2013-odin-3-09-odin-1-85-versions-t2189539

I got the md5 file and got it in odin and clicked start and then a couple minutes later it said failed and now my tablet only says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & Try again" so I went to kies and went to Emergency Firmware Recovery tab under tools but it can not find my device
OK, XDA Assist is a forum to point you in the right direction and not to solve your issue. So I'd ask here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-3/help. But use the usb ports in the back of your computer, 2.0 and not 3.0, and try different usb cables. Odin can be finicky.
Anyone have the odin of the latest factory rom or a zip for twrp? Of course the phone knows there is one there but the naughty owner of the phone isn't stock......
you can get the latest stock samsung (any model) ROM on updato.com (no restrictions, no accounts, totally free), however, the google apps will need to update themselves.
Does it have to be done through Odin or can it be done through twrp?
sent from my Samsung wonder device
.zip : TWRP
.tar.md5 : Odin
EDIT: that's not actually true. but, updato.com ROMs are flashable via rocovery such as TWRP.
Sitting right here.
