How to migrate from iPhone to Android

Sorry if this has been posted before. This was one of those "late-night family specials" and I had to write it down somewhere.
I will polish this up later. Hope it helps!
1) Connect your iPhone to iTunes and make a backup.
a) Wait for iPhone to list.
b) Right click, then select Backup.
Depending on the size of data on your phone and the last backup performed, this could take a while.
2) Download SQLite Database Extractor and iFunBox. It's a bit unpleasant, but it'll work.
3) Do the following to restore key information:
PHOTOS
-----------
iPhones are recognized as cameras in Windows and Mac, so pull photos like you normally would (iPhoto, Windows Explorer, etc.)
SMS
-----
Go to this (http://faked.org/isms2droid/index.php) website and follow the instructions.
CONTACTS
--------------
This is the messy part. (You must be syncing your phone with a Google account to make this work.)
BIG NOTE: If your iPhone can access the internet, the easiest way to do this is to add your Google account on the iPhone and sync everything that way. See http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252 for details.
1) Open iPhone Backup Extractor and wait for it to finish loading data.
2) When finished, click "Expert Mode"
3) Click on LIBRARY, then ADDRESSBOOK, then AddressBook.sqlitedb
4) Click Extract Selected, then save to somewhere convenient (like the Desktop). It will display a warning; just click OK. NOTE: The program costs $34.95. Unfortunately, it's not worth it.
5) Navigate to the folder you saved this file in, then click LIBRARY, then AddressBook.
5) Open SQL Database Extractor. When it opens, drag this file into the application. If you did this right, you should get tons of dropdown menus.
6) Click on Edit, then Create Table. Name the table whatever you want; I will use "TEST_TABLE" as the name in this example.
7) Click Add, then type "First" for field name and "TEXT" for field type. Repeat this twice, entering the data below:
Field Names: "Last", "Mobile"
Field Type: "TEXT", "TEXT"
8) When done, click on "Execute SQL" and enter the following query in the SQL string:
INSERT INTO "test_table" (First, Last, Mobile) SELECT AbPerson.First AS First, AbPerson.Last AS Last, AbMultiValue.value AS Mobile FROM AbPerson, AbMultiValue WHERE (AbPerson.ROWID = AbMultiValue.record_id AND AbMultiValue.value LIKE '%(%)%')
If it worked, you should see "No error" underneath "Error message from database engine"
BIG NOTE: If you mess up the query above, SQLite Database Browser will freeze! Yes, I know it sucks. I'm going to make a better way.
BIG NOTE 2: Everyone's phone number will be recognized as mobile numbers. Remember that this is a quick way of getting your contacts back.
BIG NOTE 3: If the person's number is not in the format [+...] (prefix) suffix, it will be lost. Sorry
9) Click on "Browse Data" and select the table you created (here, TEST_TABLE) from the "Table" dropdown. If it worked, you'll see first names, last names and phone numbers.
10) Click on File, then Export, then Export As CSV File. Select TEST_TABLE for the table name and click Export to complete. Save it somewhere convenient, like the desktop. Click OK, then exit. Don't save the new table.
11) Log into your Gmail account and go to your contacts. Click on MORE ACTIONS, then IMPORT.
12) Browse to the CSV file you just created. Then click Import. If it worked, you should see all of your contacts in Gmail, and they will appear in your phone in a few minutes.
The worst is now behind you!
MUSIC
--------
Going by memory, sorry. There are two good ways of doing it:
(a) the easy way:
1) Download DoubleTwist and install
2) Wait for device to connect
3) Click on it, then click Sync Music
4) Get good coffee to enjoy while waiting.
(b) the geeky way:
1) Open iFunBox
2) When your phone is recognized, expand it, then click Raw File System, then iTunes_Control, then Music
3) Copy ALL folders somewhere convenient.
4) When that's finished, connect your Android device as USB storage.
5) Create a folder called Music or similar if not already present.
6) Copy all of those folders into that directory. You will lose the pretty names, but all of the music will be organized automatically.

[Q] newbie to android. Have some Q's

Hi TIA for helping.
issues need help with
1) how do i play music movies? on the ios itunes handle everything. i searched and most mfg has their own skinned player, but naked android??? cant figure it out.
2) how do i delete photos from "gallery" autobackup album?
3) is there a app to import profile pics to contacts from G+ (even if they are not in your circle). I had luck with a FB importer called sync.me
4) whats a good flash light app that doesnt require launching the app to activate. ie: activate with 3taps of the volume key.
5) can some explain to me hangouts. someone said its like imessage but i dont get it yet. imessage was based on phone# or email. hangouts if i am understanding is tied to your circles (of which i have 0). please correct me if i have it wrong.
6) is there a way to see notifications on the lock screen with a swipe down. (i have a pin enabled). - i dont like unlocking to see the notifications.
1) Google play music or any music player you get on the play store will easily play any music. For Android, there is no itunes (duh) , so either download music and have it on googles cloud services, or you can drag and drop the mp3 files into your phone.
2) Well if these photos are from your google account/gmail , heres what you can do first go to settings -> Google -> under accounts select the gmail -> uncheck Google Photos or Google+ photos. Then from your homescreen, hit the app drawer, press and hold gallery, drag it to the top where it says app info. Then press clear all data and clear all cache (this doesnt delete any photos, so it wont cause any harm). By doing this you won't have the auto synced photos anymore.
4) theres plent of flashlight apps that all do the same. just search up flashlight on playstore and the first few results are your best bets.

1) Google Play music comes with your phone and its awesome. You can use it as a subscription for unlimited streaming or upload your own music and stream it (or DL onto the device).
2) Go to settings>apps>all>gallery>delete cache and app data (you'll also want to go to settings>accounts>google account>uncheck the photo account stuff from there.
3)Unsure, try going to G+ app and having it sync contacts
4)I use smart tools...it has a bunch of tools in it and also includes a flashlight "widget". To add a widget, go to your app drawer, press widgets at the top and drag and drop the widget onto your home screen.
5) Hangouts is just a central location or Google hangouts and SMS. You can hangout with your friends if they also have hangouts or you can SMS them normally.
6) I don't think you can swipe down when you have a PIN (defeats the purpose of the pin). Try Dashclock in the app store. It has some cool extensions and might be able to help.
Let us know if you need any more help!
Thanks everyone.

Hard to say with that few information.
You can try to clear app data and cache of Play store in Settings > Application manager > All ... (or where ever it's on your device).
Then start Play store app again.
If you are on original/stock firmware, you can also wipe data/do a factory reset. But keep in mind that you have a backup of everything important before wiping.
If that does not help, please contact Google (or your mobile carrier, or the hardware manufacturer) service directly, and ask for help.
Maybe it's an issue with your Google account(s).
For further information, check your device specific forum or ask in the General discussion > Questions and Answers forum.

How to Add User Accounts to Android

If you have kids you'll be used to them wanting to borrow your phone or tablet to play games or listen to music, but perhaps you don't really want them near your own apps and data where they might break something. Adding user accounts to Android is a great way to keep other users of your device out of your business, and can also make it easier to apply parental controls.
To add a user account to your Google phone or tablet that person will need their own Google account, which is now possible even for kids with Family Link. (If it's your own Google account you want to add to the device you would be better off adding it to your own account.)
Do note that any users added to your phone will be able to accept updated app permissions, so only share your device with people you trust. On the other hand, since you have the Admin account you'll be able to uninstall apps and remove storage space on user accounts.
-Open the Settings menu and scroll down to and select System
-Choose Advanced to see more options
-Select Multiple Users
-Click + Add user to create a new account and click Ok to the pop-up warning
-A second pop-up will prompt you to set up the new user - click Set Up Now to switch to the user account
-Click Continue
-Enter the Google ID login credentials for the new account as prompted
-Agree to the Terms of Service and accept the privacy policy as prompted
-Set a PIN, passcode or fingerprint as prompted
-Set up Voice Match for Google Assistant as prompted
-You'll then be offered options to add another email account, change the font size, change the wallpaper and review additional ---apps. Choose any of these or click No thanks
Thread Closed.

Force enable Whatsapp fingerprint feature.(If not available for your region)

Hello everyone,
I just read today over the internet that whatsapp has finally released its "Unlock with Finger Print Feature" on the beta version 2.19.221.
Post reading this i quickly jumped to my play store and checked my whatspp version as I was already enrolled as a beta tester.
But with no luck as may others, even being on the same version I didn't found the option in my whatsaap privacy settings.
Ya i also tried sideloading the apk from three different sources, but no luck.
Then, i had only one choice i.e to make my own luck.
Follow the below process(this is what i did).
Prerequisites:
1) Whatsapp 2.19.221 beta apk.(get it from apkmirror)
2) A decent VPN app that will let u connect to UK. ( i use tunnel bear from play store)
3) An additional gmail id that u might have lying arround. (note: make sure whatsaap has never been installed from this gmail id from play store)
Lets begin:
1)Clear cache and data of play store and whatapp from your phone(don't just simply uninstall whatsapp) Clear cache and data is mandatory.(also backup ur chats and data beforehand)
2) connect to UK server using VPN.
3) Login play store with the fresh gmail ID that u might have and accept the play store policy request popup.
4) close down play store and remove from recents.
5) Install the whatsapp 2.19.221 apk that u previously downloaded from play store.
6)Follow the whatsapp setup process as usual. ( no need to change your country in whatsapp.... as for me it was India so i kept it that way and used my regular whatsapp number that i have my whatsapp on..It will take some time to get the OTP as ur on a VPN connection...for me its took around 2min)
7)After the setup headover to the three dotted menu in whatsapp--->Settings--->Account--->Privacy--->at the very bottom U should have the Option named "Fingerprint Lock"
Have a good day.
