[CM10.1 patch] USB tethering icon - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi,
I'd post this in the CM10.1 thread in the development forum but I don't have the required 10 posts yet to be able to use that forum.
I have uploaded a patch to CM10.1's gerrit instance which adds an icon to the status bar when there's an active ethernet or USB IP connection (the system can't tell the difference between the two). This means that when you tether your tablet through USB to another Android phone or any other device that can share an internet connection through USB RNDIS. Theoretically it should also work when a USB ethernet adapter is plugged into the dock but I don't have one so can't test it.
The patch is here and I'd appreciate any tests and reviews on gerrit.

[Q] How to install usb2net drivers on Galaxy Tab 10.1

I have been an I.T. support engineer for 15 years or so and love a challenge. Consequently my departement director gave me one to see if I could figure it out before our HQ I.T. could. It is annual review time so I naturally accepted the challenge.
Challenge - Connect an Android Tablet to a wired ethernet connection and run a speed test on the wired connection.
We have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (model GT-P7510 to be exact)
Android version - 3.2
Kernel Version - 2.6.36.3
USB Debugging mode is enabled
Unknown sources (install of non-Market apps) is enabled.
Purchased a Samsung EPL-1PL0BEGXAR USB Connection Kit for the Galaxy Tab 10.1
Purchased a USB RJ45 Ethernet 10/100 Network Lan Card Adapter
(cant post links yet but search for "New USB RJ45 Ethernet 10/100 Network Lan Card Adapter For Apad E11 Haipad")
When you connect the USB RJ45 device it is not recognized.
To ensure the USB was working I verified that a USB thumb drive was recognized and files could be accessed.
The USB RJ45 device came with a CD with drivers for various OS including what appeared to be Android as they had indicated on their website that this particular tablet could work with the device. (DRIVERS ATTACHED AS ZIP)
Apparently it may be a usb2net type device from what I could determine looking through the files.
As I am a complete novice at Linux, Android etc I did not know what to do with these files or how and where to copy them to on the Android Tablet.
I spent free time over the past couple of weeks looking through forums and even downloaded Android SDK Manager and read up on what adb was and was able to use a command prompt to browse the device folder structure.
So, as I have a crazy week and then off for xmas break I and am turning to the experts and asking for your advice.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated
usb2net GT-P7510
Hi,
I can see your post is quite old... but I'm in the same case :
"Looking for a way to connect my Galaxy tab 10.1 (GT-P7510) to a wired ethernet"
I have the usb2net cable (usb to RJ45) but this connection is not recognize by the GT-P7510 ... is there a way to update the firmware?
I've seen the the galaxy tab 2 recognize the ethernet connections.
If you or someone founded a way, could you explain please.
Thx a lot.

It is not possible on that model. Hardware does not support it so suggest you do not waste more time like I did

USB to Ethernet CURRENT (2013) Status

Hey all,
There's nothing that I could find that's recent (ICS & up) about USB to ethernet adapters. I've been following several threads for months and they've seemed to die down since the releases of ICS and JB. To my understanding, driver packs and terminal usage are no longer necessary to use a USB to ethernet adapter. I've read that you just plug it in and you're good to go!
Well, since about mid 2012 (and earlier), these USB to ethernet threads have been dying, and now that USB 3.0 has become more available (and cheaper!), new adapters are on the market. I'm hoping that hard line usage has become more practical than it was in some of the developmental threads, as my line of work requires testing and troubleshooting of lots cat5 cables.
I hope that this thread can clear some confusion that I have, and also that I've seen in many other similar threads.
List of working adapters
Linksys USB300M - quote - 10/100
List of several adapters in this post
I just ordered the Rosewill RNG-406U USB 3.0 gigabit adapter and will try that out. The description shows full Android 1.x, 2.x, 3.x, 4.x support on Newegg's page. (PS, it's on Newegg's Shell Shocker today only for $10 off)...
With ICS and JB (or even HC?) I've read that HC and up may be working without a driver pack (as opposed to this). Which means it should just be plug and play now.
Current questions (if you have it working):
What rom are you running (with kernel # please)?
Does a 10/100/1000 adapter work? (Will find out for my specific device when I get mine in the mail)
What is the brand & model name of the adapter you're using?
Plug and play? Or do you need terminal emulator to run commands?

[Q] Tether a rooted TF700 to a rooted Android phone via USB

Hi,
I have a rooted TF700 and a rooted Nexus S both running CM10.1. Is it possible to connect a USB cable from the dock of the Infinity to the Nexus S and use its network connection? If I plug a cable in then the USB tethering option in Settings is greyed out.
I imagine this would involve the use of a different kernel - I'm willing to try and make my own if I need to and someone can point out what config option needs to be compiled in.

If you do it, add the ability for two android devices to be connected together, one as host and the other as attached media device or attached storage so they can exchange files.
Regarding internet sharing, I do this now with my tab and my phone but over wifi. I just toggle my phones wifi hotspot (or you can tether for free with PDANet and FoxFi; depends on carrier - on Verizon fails to be able to download market apps so was dysfunctional for me) and connect the tabs wifi to the phones wifi shared internet (definition of a wifi hotspot). Waaaay better, no wires. And works on stock or unlocked/rooted/ROMd.

This is already possible using the Prime/Infinity dock's USB port I believe. Using the micro USB port on the tablet itself would not be possible as it registers as a client not a host.

Yep, this already works fine using the built-in Android hotspot. My issue is that my phone's battery dies in a couple of hours doing this. I want to use USB because it would use much less power on both the phone and the tablet (and the phone would actually charge while plugged into the dock!).
Actually it seems to work already! I was being less than smart and had forgotten to turn on 'USB tether' on the phone. It's a pity there's no notification on the tablet to show it has an internet connection via USB though.

[WORKING][USBOTG][STOCK] - Atrix 2 USB OTG Host Mode and USB Accessory acquisition

04/11/2014 - 01:41AM - Central Time
USB OTG does work on the Motorola Atrix 2.
I post this because there are no defining topics listing all the requirements and caveats of making this work currently as of the date. Just alot of help topics to sift through. I got a little obsessive in my search to make this work so this is pretty much a knowledge dump.
Started from original help threads here on the forums (various many... lots), figured things out from there through conversations with Chainfire. Ultimitely fixed with lots of research and use of his USB Host Diagnostics App.
Requirements:
Motorola Atrix 2 Stock 4.0.4 - Rooted [stock kernel as well]
(what drove me insane on this was that in USB HOST Diagnostics App it showed kernel support, and API support up to Device detected)
USB OTG Y cable, usb 2.0 (I was concerned about this in the beginning however mine appears to be usb 2.0, got it off amazon.)
(Through research it concerned me that a usb 3.0 would not work. Have not tested this)
USB Drive, usb 2.0
- Tested with a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 1gb
(I assume others will work although there have been some help topics mentioning problems with certain usb drives)
[NOTE]
Must be formatted fat32 - I have noticed a few threads I researched mentioning exfat is not supported for certain devices
(have not confirmed as of post date if exfat is supported for Atrix 2 Stock)
[NEEDED] For USB Host AutoMount
Usb 2.0 Hub (I have an old one i cut apart originally. Dont remember the make, and I lost the housing for it, but hey it works)

Instructions (i.e. my exact process)
I came from testing a multitude of custom roms. None of them worked. I have a help thread on it here. Unconfirmed if any of them work at all I had no success. If you are wondering the post thread is here.
- Flash to stock ICS 4.0.4 (if you are not already)
- Root the Atrix 2
Not sure if the relevant (but this is the exact process I took)
-Install BMM
-Installed Busybox (1.22.1)
-Installed USB Host Diagnostics App
(get your host cable and usb drive ready)
-Ran the app
(Follow the instructions it will ask you at the end if you wish to attempt to fix the issue)
- Say yes to try to fix it.
- Follow instructions (go for a reboot)
- Open up usb diagnostics app.
- Run again to confirm
Congrats!

This will not make it automount.
- You do not need a separate program to do this.
Grab your USB hub, plug the USB Drive into the hub and plug it in. To my surprise it automounted.
Chainfire had mentioned checking out a certain file when I was trying to find custom roms that would work. The file was there but they did not work. I gather that file was added by his program and made it work on stock ICS 4.0.4.
There are alot of other threads for other devices. Samsung requires shorting the last 2 pins on the USB connection. This is not needed for Motorola, but keep this in mind if you are randomly searching for USB OTG answers.

Thanks: Chainfire
Couldn't have figured this out without his help. I highly recommend his apps, he definitely has a deep knowledge of the android system.
Hopefully that should clear things up a bit for anyone searching for the Atrix 2 USB OTG help. I'm moving on to hopefully port from ICS USB OTG host features to a custom rom like Cyanogen. Ill update a link if I come up with anything.
Hello, maybe someone can guide me for final results and find solution. My plans was watch Tv on lapdock 500pro, after i find dvb-t reciever for android. the model was ]CSL - mini DVB-T Stick (from amazon)
requriments of device informs that phone needs android 4.0 or high, dual core cpu (neon support) and usb otg
i have atrix2 mb865 with stock 4.0.4 +root and text inside /proc/cpuinfo returns - "Features: swp half thumb fatmult vfp edsp neon vfpv3"
last one what i need must be usb otg support, so after i get device i connect it direct to microusb and run installed Air Dtv app, it returns "Device not found" then i find this topic and install Busybox and USB Host Diagnostics and run app. I rush to make it quickly so when start diagnostics app asks me connect usb device but i have no any usb device and otg cable also. so i just plug charge cable in lapdock`s usb and connect it to phone, app little think then ask me to Fix usb otg support and after ask to reboot system. After reboot i try again connect directly that device but app again returns "Device not found" - then i check topic again and start to build otg cable.
After cable was complete i check it by connecting to external power (wall adaptor) then i have results.I run USB Host Diagnostics, start test connect device by otg cable, and app returns me (see pic)
Also, when i connect device by otg cable now system popup "By which programm you want use device" and give choice to Air Dtv or Idtv Mobile, 2 apps. But Air Dtv returns me "Device initialisation failed, unplug device and connect after few seconds" another app cant find device also. (see pic)
Also i install Usb Device info app, and able to see connected device info, system shows me that stick is connected to phone. (see pic)
Also i able to mount usb stick to phone by otg cable with external power, and can view files in it. Means i suggest that otg cable and otg in system works
My final point was view Tv on lapdock but at this step i cant run it on phone, Air Dtv also returns me "device not found" when i try to connect it to lapdock by microusb female - usb male extension (included in package of Tv stick)
Also that device works on pc, i install windows software and check it. Mean stick works and shows tv channels. can be for sure that device works
Hope for your help and support!
That solves my problem sort of, I'm going to try to install NUMA and see what results I get. Ill update my post once I'm done

Monitor mode solution?maybe i've got it

Hi guys, maybe i've found a monitor mode solution that works on our nexus 5 devices, unfortunately i can't test if it works, cause i haven't the correct Wifi adapter.
Omni rom is required, i've found a kernel(i've only tested on omni like the developer of this kernel) that install usb host driver for atheros and tl-wn722n wifi usb adapters on nexus 5.
I've tried to flash this kernel and all fine, but now i can't test if monitor mode works cause i have none of these usb wifi adapters.
if granted leave you the link of the page of the kernel : http://www.maxters.net/2014/03/nexus-5-usb-wifi-kernel/
The page and the kernel is not mine, i've only found them on google looking for a solution, and would like to share, to finally give an answer to the many questions on monitor mode.
If someone can try please, give me some feedback if it works fine or no, cause i have yet to buy wifi adapter, and for now can't do nothing.
