Capdase Karapase Jacket Finne DS Case for N4 - Nexus 4 Accessories

Hello Guys
I am getting Capdase Karapase Jacket Finne DS Case for LG Google Nexus 4 E960 - Clear(link on ebay) from a local retailer in my area. Should I go for it? The ringke one is out of my budget. This seems to be the best bet as it is transparent and they are giving a screen guard along with it too.

I remember seeing that one, I think DTJB bought one but was prone to scratching.

Yea. It fares better than the cheap transparent ones in that it doesn't come scratched out of the box.
Still scratches very easily though and a few weeks of regular use will get it quite scratched up.

Isn't the ringke one prone to scratching? And do the scratches look ugly, I mean does it give the back an ugly look?

I saw this in a local shop.. The edges were very rough and the back was not even and had air bubbles.. I didn't go for it...(I can confirm it was original Capdase only)

So is there no other option available apart from ringke which provides protection as well as shows of the back?

It's gonna scratch at some point. But it's one of the most scratch resistant clear backed cases I've ever had. I highly recommend the fusion case.

Agreed, I have had the ringke since it was released. And I have to say that the ringke is the most scratch resistant for a clear backed case. I highly recommend it as well.

Disagree. It's simple piece of plastic, scratches easy just like all of them. It's terrible for fingerprints too, becomes near impossible to wipe the layer of oil off.

It's by far the most scratch resistant case I've ever come by and I mean that by miles. I've had other cases that say scratch resistant and they scratch very fast. Also I work in an industrial setting so I think my cases would be prone to scratching faster than the average person. I don't notice the fingerprints because I have a mahogany skin dbrand skin on 90% of the time. The reason you get those finger prints though is because of the scratch resistant coating on the back.

Rhino Shield

Can anyone give me an idea of what this feels like? All the reviews I find are about how you can drop it from such and such height which is cool and all but none of them detail how it feels. Does it feel glass like? Will it start to feel sticky? Does it have a bit of give that makes it feel a bit plasticy?
I have it for my iPhone 6 Plus, I was worried it'd feel sticky too.. but its more a harder rubber... definitely NOT sticky in the least. On the inside, it's a honeycomb pattern (guessing this assists in landing) But it's excellent. I hate full cases and it raises both the front and back on, so it'll never land on the screen or back. but it's still slim, because it's just a bumper.
This bumper + slickwraps will be it for me. Just hoping they get the same dope star wars skins they have for the nexus 6!!
Someone else has a thread on this, but I never really liked the non-glass covers. Having super thin tempered glass is awesome because it gives the same feel and clarity.
I'd have to see the rhino shield in real life to know if it's something I'd rather use over TG.

You may be confusing the case with the "complete package"
The rhino shield is a bumper, you can still put at tgsp on the phone. That's what I'm planning to do

Oops.. that should be Crash Guard. Bumper on my mind while typing that lol.
I've dropped my phone a few times from waist-height or lil higher. Couple from lap getting out of car. Three of those times my phone has landed flat/near-flat on its' face.
No scratches or any damage from those.
I have a Diztronic TPU case as well. Between that and the Rhino Shield, they've kept my screen intact.
I've had the RS on for so long, I think I've acclimated to it. Still feels very smooth. But I'm sure when I get my 6P, I'll be thinking "oh this is what glass feels like again".... then stick a RS back on it lol.

No, but it's a scenario that if I could just buy one protector it's better. The Rhino shield from what I've seen absorbs a lot of the impact from things. Imagine you accidentally drop your phone onto a rock or something. Your screen protector breaks and you need a new one and if there's too much force the screen below breaks, rhino shield (supposedly) absorbs it and can take the impact from falling on something better. Using a metal ball is just an easy way to show off the situation.

If you could tell me if there's any big difference when you do get it, that would be appreciated. Mainly because $50 is a lot to spend on a bumper+screen protector and I would like to know!
So does anyone know if they're actually making this bumper and screen guard combo (I'd like the back of the phone protector, personally) for the 6p?
I sent them an email and they said they are. Many others have said they got the same email back as well so here's hoping they do.

Spigen Tough Armor vs Rhino Shield vs ?? for Most protective case?

Guys, I am a massive clumsy git!
Had/have an S5 currently in a spigen tough armor that I've needed to re-screen once in past 2 years.
I'm VERY nervous about destroying the lovely 6P that'll be winging its way to me in a week or so...
Is the Spigen offering the most productive? I saw a drop test for the iphone 6 + and it was damn impressive!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2G0ULiKNuw
I'm a little out of touch, so is there a better more protective case available for this 5.7 inch beauty?
Thx guys!

I don't have any experience with either the Crash Guard or Spigen cases, but I've watched several tests of the Crash Guard and they sold me on their product. I'll be getting it when it becomes available. I'm still up in the air regarding a screen protector, however. I've always had tempered glass and really like them, but after watching the Rhinoshield videos of their screen protector, it's gotten a little more difficult to make a decision. Here is a link to their product page for anyone who hasn't seen the torture they can take.
http://www.evolutivelabs.com/pages/rhinoshield
In particular, check out the ball peen hammer and ball bearing drop test vids:

I'm definitely buying the bumper from evolutive labs. I like bumpers, but the videos have really sold me onto the product. I'm unsure about the glass/screen protector. Again, the rhino shield videos look very impressive, but I haven't heard enough about it. People use tempered glass often enough and don't complain either.
Spigen is where I will get my tempered glass if I do decide to purchase it instead of the Rhino shield though.
The Rhino shield glass cover has me sold, need to find eviews on how it feels in action!

I would probably throw the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro into the mix as well. The regular Unicorn Beetle is damn tough too. Evolutive Labs has confirmed a Crash Guard Bumper for the 6P, but not a PlayProof case.

Never had a problem with any of Supcase's cases.
To be totally honest, all you would really need is the standard Unicorn Beetle case (Not the Pro) and a tempered glass screen protector... Nothing more. It's seriously THAT good. I work in the oilfield and this combination has saved my phone so many times... even times where I thought it was doomed and the tempered glass broke. You could literally drop your phone's screen on a rock from 5ft and it would only break the tempered glass protector. The actual screen will be fine.

Me too other than a lack of a belt clip. That is the missing piece to all the cases out there. How do you carry the phone? Until I get my leather holster or a belt clip/case, I've been putting my 6P in my front pocket. Works for work slacks, but not for jeans.

Rhino Shield's videos don't show comparisons to other forms of protection so it's hard to know the difference without testing it yourself. I've personally never used a rhino shield so I cannot say, but there are things we should consider.
1. Is it better than a standard tempered glass protector?
If yes, by how much?
2. How does it feel?
3. After all this, is the difference, if any, worth the cost and/or really needed?
I can only say, from experience, that a standard tempered glass protector has done it's job at protecting my device... even in some extreme conditions. It has never failed me. With this in mind, and if the Rhino Shield is much better, why should you need it if latter is proven to be good enough. Again, this has been from my experience. The only time I could see the Rhino Shield winning, if it is truly better, is at excessive drop distances, but does that ever really happen?

They work differently. Glass breaks to dissipate energy while the multi layered plastic supposedly reflect some of the energy back. Both help spread the energy across the surface. Not an expert. But a lot of people like glass because the glass ones maintain the same FEEL on the screen while the Plastic ones have a more mushy feel.

Otterbox defender mostly. I love my 6P and think the design is pretty to look at, but slippery as all get out in my hand. I like the Beetle but wish it had a belt clip with it. I bought a leather holster made for an iPhone 6s Plus and hope it will fit the 6P with the basic Beetle on it.

Yeah, that's your problem. Those Otterboxes use like a rubber material that can be very clingy. I don't think you'll have any issues with the standard Supcase case, but the Pro model does come with its own clip so you may consider that one too. Only downside is it's a little bulkier and it hides the beauty of the device whereas the regular model kinda accents its beauty.
You also make a really good point about the glass vs rhino shield. The rhino shield won't break because it's not glass, but the tempered glass will. There are many manufacturers that provide lifetime warranties on their glass protectors though so you could essentially buy 2 for the price of the rhino shield and get one replaced if it breaks while your backup protector takes over. That would probably be the best way IMO... I just don't trust or like the feel of anything other than glass, personally.
Thx all for the great info... amazing insights. What tempered glass system would you endorse?
Do they stick on the screen or are they part of the case? Sorry for being dumb, as I said am out of touch!

Just arrived Spigen Ultra Hybrid crystal clear

Extremely happy. Case fits my phone perfect. The cut outs are spot on however I wish the nexus scanner were wider however I'm sure it's something I will get use to.
The case makes the phone feel a lot more solid and not as fragile as it once did. My phone always felt like it was one drop away from being destroyed completely. Spigen did well by not adding a lot of weight to the phone and having the phones buttons cut out well but not perfect. There's not much separation between the volume up and down. It now feels like one large button. The headphone, camera, rear mic and charger are cut out clean with enough space.
The lip between the phone screen and case are perfect where I feel comfortable placing the phone on its screen side and not worry about it being scratched. The lip isn't so large that you feel this huge separation between phone and case.
9/10 imo. Hope this helps. Ask any questions you need.

Anyone know how this compares to the Ringke Fusion clear case? I thought they were exactly the same at first, but it looks like the Spigen leaves the whole visor exposed, while the Ringke only has a small cutout. I had to return my Ringke to Amazon because the TPU had a medium sized tear in the corner. I'm wondering if I should get this instead.

Out shouldn't, Spigen cases have some of the best cutouts and Ive never had any issues with it on their tough armor that I'm using now. The cutout is likely the same size as their other case which would make it ~14.45mm according to my caliper. It's the perfect size in my opinion

Over at reddit some users are seeing that line too:
reddit.com/r/Nexus6P/comments/3sl3iu/just_got_the_spigen_ultra_hybrid_crystal_clear
Interstingly, in the reddit OP's imgur album you can clearly see that there is no crack/scratch before the case was installed. In the later photos the crack appears when the case is on the phone.

Im guessing that the tension introduced to the case when snapping it onto the phone is causing the crack to appear. However, from the few cases I've seen it seems that so far these cases have the exact same small crack at the same position, so it may could be there on purpose. Only the guys at Spigen will know for sure.
I experienced the same hairline crack and contacted Spigen's CS team. They're helpful and sent out a replacement one for me. If you're willing to deal with the short wait time, then i'd say go for it.

I hope it's easy to find a case and screen protector

Hopefully Spigen makes something
Hopefully they eventually sell the phones lol

I'm sure there will be plenty of cases....cases will have to have huge hole for magnetic accessories which I'm sure will also be the norm for cases. I just hope there is a standard spec for max accessory size to fit in these holes
already screen protectors on amazon

I'd like some traditional cases as well that doesn't have cutouts for accessories. Different cases for different needs.
The point on this phone is not to have a case lol

why? Because of the materials used?
Id still like a very thin case around it for a better grip and against any scuffles

Yes. Look at drop video. It should be pretty resilient to scuffs
cases ruin phone's beauty, use only tempered glass.
Reviews out today mentioned the materials are a little slippery. Android Authority reviewer said he dropped it a few times because of the slippery feel and The Verge said it's borderline slippery.
I was going to go no case on this but if it's not very grippy, I want at least a bumper to help with grip. I wouldn't mind even some kind of adhesive skin for the sides to help with grip.

Bumpers add too much bulk. Skin is the way to go but I have not found any yet. I just want one for the back to prevent fingerprints. Even if just a clear one.

dbrand has skins on pre-order. Just saw a little while ago. I think I'll go this route, but I'd rather see for myself how this feels in the hand first.
I like dbrand but A) very slow shipping and B) not as much variety as SW. SW innovates on the materials a lot more.

Would be a constructive comment if SW had any skins for the essential phone dbrand is our only option atm.
I'd love an olephobic coated tempered glass piece to go on the back. Much like a screen protector, but for the back to give extra grip over the ceramic, help resist fingerprints even though it's glass, but have cutouts for the accessories and such. The glass should be thin enough not to interfere with putting accessories on
I have a Mi Mix witch is very similar build being that is ceramic and and I actually think opposite of reviews that said the Mix is slippery. I find the material sticks to my hands. Maybe I'm just really sweaty or something lol. I'm not worried about slippery in the slightest
I really want some sort of back skin. I don't like the bright or flashy stuff. I think dbrand black titanium would look great on it but I think it's kind of slippery because the texture is vertical only. I tried black dragon on another phone and found it no grippier than any other skin. I just really want grip and to avoid smudges. No one has a clear film skin yet either. But maybe a matte one of those would help. Anyone find anything?

SW alcantara would be the best.... It's kind of thick though
Anyone trust those liquid screen protectors?

I sent an email to Spigen to ask about tempered glass screen protector and the possibility of a case and maybe a tempered glass back. They havent responded, but I doubt they will since I am pretty sure they will be boycotting making anything for this phone due to thier trying to get a cease and desist against the entire Essential company, phone included.

To case or not to case, that is the question........

With a case on, it seems to "take away" from the small bezels, and the beautiful screen, on the other hand, I don't want anything to happen "just in case" What do all of you prefer?
I use skin on the back and glass screen protector on the front. This way the phone is almost as slim as naked but at the same time very well protected.
Been no case since day 1 with no issues. Several waist height drops with no breakage just a ding or 2.
No case. Takes away from beauty and in-hand feel.
I'm thinking a clear Skinomi full skin might do it, but I've never had a full body one from them, only screen protectors
I've just been using a skin and screen protector at home. Put a slim case on when I go out for some drop protection.

I'd get the IQ Shield over Skinomi. Tried both and IQ Shield looks and feels better. Still have the screen protector on. Feels almost as smooth as glass.

I dropped the phone from my shirt pocket. Display broke.

i can vouch for the skinomi full kit. i use it on both my ph-1's. fitment is great and works under my tudia case ( to provent scratches to bezel )
I dropped mine today getting out of my truck and cracked the screen in the bottom left. Most frustrating thing is I finally ordered a case days ago but won't be here until tomorrow...so of course on the day before I drop it like this.
Don't go naked... For Sprint it's a $200 deductable to repair or replace. iFixit gives this phone a score of 1/10 in repairability on your own.
Poetic Guardian. Excellent style and protection so far.

I went with Square Trade. Cheaper deductible.
At $200 you can go directly to Essential for replacement. That's the street price.

I like the way is feels without a case, but I also am not ready for a reeks phone.
I may look at the Guardian.
I wish they made the Affinity for the Ph-1. The Poetic Affinity is the case I've had on three previous phones.
I have one on my work iPhone 6. Had it on my LG G6 and my Nexus 6P.
Best case ever. IMHO

Doesn't the screen protector on that one lower touch sensitivity? Can you remove the screen protector without ruining the case?

I personally have not noticed any more touch issues than the phone already had. It may be possible to remove the screen protector from the front portion of the case but I wouldn't bother doing it. The front peice of the case is what the phone fits into initially and its pretty snug.
There is some rainbow effect where the screen protector touches the screen but it is ONLY noticeable when the screen is off and you look at it from an angle.
Still running naked since the first day of deliveries with no regrets.

How long have you had the phone? About to get one and would prefer using it without a case and screen protector. All my previous phones have had cases, but none ever had screen protection. Never had a screen break or scratch. Have dinged the corners on occasion. I'm thinking of going "naked" and then adding a case, if necessary, to cover any damage down the line. I don't see a point in hiding the beauty of this slab so that someone else gets the pleasure of an unblemished phone if I decide to sell it. BTW, I've never sold any of my 10+ old phones. No value once I'm done with them. Opinion?

I've had mine since release day. I agree, this phone is just too pretty to cover up. I've had a few drops and still not a scratch, ding , or crack to be found.
Case it Pls. I dropped my black moon face down and cracked the screen. I had tgsp but it also flew out from the impact.
Amazon was nice to allow me to have a full refund on a 1 time basis. Ordered my halo gray with a case. Lol
I got this one in few days after getting my phone:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B078PCCKYL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
pretty good quality and price. feels solid.

Same here, since September last year. Fell to the ground once in London, not a scratch. My phone has been everywhere and I don't regret the lack of a case. About to order the copper black just because and would be a crime to case that one!

Hey, I about to hit buy on this case too, do you find it awkward to hold when it's open? How about the fingerprint scanner, does the case make it harder to use?
Thanks!
