[Q] Marketplace download error 805a0193 over wifi

I get error code 805a0193 when I try to download apps over WiFi. When I switch WiFi off, I can download them over 3G. I tried a HTC Tropy and a Samsung Omnia 7 on more than one WiFi network.
I also tried Nodo and Mango 7712 with the only difference that Nodo is not giving the error code but also fails over wifi.
Since I can download the apps over 3G, it must be some WiFi or maybe ISP / service provider issue?
I am using the South African marketplace with the Vodacom service provider.

No luck, it appears to be a marketplace issue. Hopefully when mango launches (and the official marketplace) we will have more info to troubleshoot.

Router or ISP?
I have exactly the same problem, but it seems to be isolated to my home network.
downloading via wifi at the office or at a friend's place works like a charm.
The only difference I can think of here is either the router (netgear) or my ISP (webafrica)
Anyone have any other ideas?

I have the same issue, also a Netgear modem and Afrihost as an ISP. I've logged several calls with Microsoft and they don't even know what is going on. I then installed Connectify and the Microsoft Network Monitor app (basically created my own HotSpot via 3G) an logged all the packets - it seems like the Marketplace server gives an "access denied" error... So am not sure how to get around that.

hmmm... so since you have a netgear marbur79, that MAY be the problem.
When I get a chance, I'm going to switch to 2 difference ISP's.
Namely, telkomsa and mweb. Will post my findings.
Perhaps you can try the same?

I do not think its the router. I tried d-link and netgear. I believe there is some issues with the marketplace setup if you access it from South Africa so Microsoft will have to fix it. I also asked the question to Microsoft. Follow the thread on

Yeah, I'm on mybb...what router are you using? I've tried this at my dad's place and it works perfectly, so don't think it can be a problem in SA.
He's got an elcheapo router connecting to telkom.

Netgear, but Mweb itself is getting 403 forbidden when accessing it. Telkom is working, but Mweb, WA, Afrihost do not.

So you've can safely say that its the ISP causing this issue?
I'll have a word with WB.

My ISP, surewest, is definately causing the issue. Free Wifi outside of my house works. Pre Mango works (dunno about Nodo, I just got the phone yesterday, and it came with 7008). ATT Mobile Data works. I disabled the firewall for a moment, and it still failed to work.

I am also having the same issue and it would seems as if there is no real answer yet?
I have WP7 HD7 with upgrade to full Mango 7720. I also received and updated an update from HTC (all updates over Zune). I am on Vodacom but with UK Live ID.
The small apps I can download over 3G, but the bigger ones request for WiFi.
I have switched to airplane mode and switched only the Wi-Fi on, linked directly to LinkSys WAG54AGS. ISP is Afrihost. I even installed a virtual WiFi network on laptop. No luck.

DNS Issue
Hi guys,
I found out that this is caused by a rogue DNS entry in the SA ISP's DNS servers. If you change your router's DNS address to 8.8.8.8 to use Google's DNS server instead the issue is resolved.

Strange but works
Change locale. Switch off wifi. Off it goes. Switch back wifi. I'm investigating the reasons. Its windows. Same on Nokia.

Wifi disconnected periodically

Hi guys this is my first post in HOX forum, I just got mine 1 week ago.
So the main problem I have so far is that my HOX gets disconnected from wifi at home periodically. It just suddenly drops and then reconnects by itself. Does anyone experience the same? If not I'm considering exchange a new one.

I do.. but my router's a POS without an external antennae. so I can't give good answer on that.

Mine does, frequently. I've seen posts regarding the problem, and maybe even a fix. But it doesn't bother me enough to risk breaking something else in the process.

I upgraded to the beastmode kernel and this started happening to me too.
Running the normal CleanROM 4.5 Rom fixed the problem for me.
Last night I took a logcat of when this disconnect happens... But I dont really know how to debug it.

I have the same issue, with an additional problem. When WiFi disconnects I lose mobile data too. Toggling airplane mode brings back mobile data. WiFi may or may not connect for a little bit afterwards.

Good idea 18th.abn. I'll start.
With BeastMode Kernel v3 I have this problem. However I don't have the problem with the stock CleanROM 4.5 kernel. I will test CleanROM V with CleanKernel tonight and see if the problem is still there.
I did get a logcat while the disconnect happened... I took a couple and will have to remember which one was which... I don't really know how to read a logcat file though. Anyone good with linux? Does that help at all?
Problem happens with 2 separate routers. I'm a BAMF so I have 2 routers on my home network, 1 to service each band, and only that band.
Router 1:
Name: Linksys WRT320N
Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/16/10) mega
(SVN revision 14289)
Band: 5Ghz N-only, 40Mhz channel width, control channel lower, wireless channel auto.
Security: WPA2-PSK (Personal), AES
Router 2:
Name: Netgear WGR614v10
Firmware: Stock
Band: 2.4Ghz G-only, channel 11, "up to 54mbps mode"
Security: WPA2-PSK, AES

Okay, so I suck at this and have forgotten which one is which. I believe it was my latest one that shows the disconnect (logcat 3). I can make another soon enough.

In logcat3, it looks like it connects for just a little bit, then once disconnected, it attempts but can't get fully connected again....it was a quick glance but is that the case?

Here is the why its not working, its looking for sim authentification-
To run an EAP-SIM/AKA authentication you will need a client as wpa_supplicant which has access to a (U)SIM. The WLAN access point on the network has to support EAP (which is often transcribed as WPA(2)-RADIUS or WPA(2)-ENTERPRISE). The WLAN AP has to have access to a RADIUS server who handles the authentication and session key generation. The RADIUS server in a productive environment needs for EAP-SIM/AKA access to the home location register (HLR) of the MNO where the (U)SIMs are registered. For testing a file with precreated values for authentication is sufficient.
I think your security is possibly on Wpa2-EAP, Which would explain the eap-sim call, and I doubt you have a RADIUS server giving out session keys to authenticate....double check your security settings

To add. Here's a good little write up in optimum router settings with your wireless n. I see a few things in your setup that could be killing or seriously slowing your wireless connections...

I would DEF. drop to 20mhz from 40mhz, that alone might fix your problem. I had big problems with tabs and phones connecting at 40mhz. 20 should help a lot and don't select auto, keep at 20.
Wireless channel, u have set on lower channels, lower channels are usually busier, there's an app, wifi analyzer, it will show you the least busy channels and then choose A channel, don't let it bounce around and choose for you.
Dd-wrt has an infinite amount of twee king/tuning options, as you already know but is extremely easy to make a great connection a worthless one all the same...
Try just switching to 20mhz and nothing else at first......it just might be the root issue for you also

My problem is that WiFi was fine for a while, then would disconnect, and then reconnect a second or two later. However, I did take a look at that guide you posted (I really like smallnetbuilder) and made some changes to my setup that they (and you) suggested. I'm still in the process of testing it.

My security was (and still is) set as WPA2 Personal with "AES" as the WPA algorithm. This is correct for my home network, is it not? At least that's what I set in the "wireless security" tab of dd-wrt under wireless. I see that there is something under "advanced settings" called "authentication type" which has a radio button for "auto" and "shared key". Right now it's on auto. Think I should change it to "shared key"?

You may choose from Auto or Shared Key. Shared key authentication is more secure, but all devices on your network must also support Shared Key authentication."

I just made some changes based on the guide you posted. I also made sure to drop the channel width down to 20mhz (I didn't know that made so much of an impact. Kudos for that piece of advice. I chose to use channel 36, 5.180Ghz, based on my testing with wifi analyzer. No one else in the neighborhood has a 5Ghz router (Apparently).
I'll see what tonight's testing yields.

Awesome, hope it helps! As far as the disconnecting, catalog shows it searching for aes-sim authentification and I don't know why. Its connected, then disconnects because already connected....*LIGHT BULB* Make sure WiFi settings on device is set to 5ghz and not auto.....that may be why its giving a already connected in catlog

Are you saying the WiFi settings on my phone? I won't be able to set it to 5ghz only as I connect to various 2.4ghz networks throughout the day.
I haven't seen the error again yet *knock on wood*

Awesome, I bet it was the 40mhz that was doing it glad u got it!

I spoke too soon. I was browsing XDA on my phone, clicked a new page and it disconnected for a second and reconnected immediately.
New logcat. I saved this one only a few seconds after it reconnected. It should say something about WiFi at the very bottom of the logcat file. Do these things even help you guys?

You're solving an issue that doesn't really pertain to the original bug. If anything, start a new thread in general here, but don't bring back this thread because of its lack of relevance.
The issue deals with the WiFi on 4.2.2 (not kitkat) dropping out and coming back in. It's an issue that's based on the kernel we had. Your solution is based on timing out. It's not the same bug.
And just for the record, I'm a user. Just like you are. So what would my job exactly be? Yes, I just started to develop too, but don't accuse me of not caring about helping others. I've been helping out for a long while now. I don't believe we really have "jobs" on this forum because none of us are obligated do anything. It's a bunch of people following etiquette and helping each other.

[Q]WiFi broken? - Please advice

I was flashing a JB 4.1.2 ROM several days ago when I noticed that my Desire S doesn't connect to my home WiFi network. As I played with the router settings before that and I didn't have the time to troubleshoot it at that time, I ignored the incident. Next day, I saw that I'm not able to connect to my work WiFi network either...then I've started to wonder what happened.
The long story short, is that I frequently flash several ROMs that are all CM10 derivates: CM10 builds from nk111, Andromadus ROM by Flinny, Paranoid by djpbx (current ROM). I usually flash every new release/build and test it to see if I encounter bugs/issues. Now I am not able to connect to any WiFi with ANY ROM...I don't remember the exact moment from which this happened but since then, I've tried with ROMs on which WiFi worked before like IceColdSandwich ported from Lord ClockaN's ROM, several CM10 builds (newer or older), even with Sense based ROMs (I've tried Fallout and Sabsa Prime). With or without full wipe, doesn't make any difference.
On all I got the same thing: WiFi "see"the surrounding networks but doesn't connect...it's not even say "Authenticating" or "Acquiring IP address". I've tried all the settings in Advanced TAB (WiFi frequency band, WiFi region), I tried with different security options (WEP, WPA, WPA2), I tried with hidden network as well as with visible (SSID is transmitted), I even tried with open network. No success at all. Network is saved but that's all. On hidden networks It says network is not in range, on visible ones is not connecting at all.
I've tried to change radio...I've used the last one (20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04), I've flashed also the one I was using before and which DID WORK (20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20)...nothing.
I've tried with or without a SIM (I read on a thread that it could influence)
I was hoping to solve it but it seems I was not able to do it. Don't know if it's something hardware related either, but since I can see the visible WiFi networks, at least the scanning part is working. Just that it does not connect. And it was working before, at least with some of the ROMs I've flashed
Now I end up with a Desire S without WiFi. Everything else works: BT, sensors, mobile data and so on. I don;t understand what happened, anyone that can give me clues or what else to check, please let me know. Phone is out of warranty and I exclude the "send it to repair center"" option. I'll do that only as last resort and when I'm going to buy a new phone.
NOTE: To avoid extra questions: I am S-Off, current radio 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20. I've also posted the problem initailly in Andromadus thread and attached a logcat HERE

I have the same problem with my desire s. BT and WIFI don't have mac adres id.

I am not sure it this much related, but I had plenty of such siituations while porting the Wireless driver into my kernel.
It was a permmission issiue (when certain files were created with certain permission another ramdisk with another permissions was not able to start the WiFi.) Usually a full wipe should fix this. Do not restore any wifi data with Titanium. Use 4EXT recovery if you are still on CWM
Once I managed to fix this by starting WiFi hotspot (on Sense 4 ROM) then stop it and start WiFi. Hope this helps

I've gone through the obvious (for me at least) things. I didn't post here without trying them first. Full wipe, gone through initial setup wizard, then first thing added a WiFi network... Nothing restored with TB or anything else, nothing installed, just flashed the ROM + GAPPS + aGPS patch then setup manually everything. When I've flashed Sabsa Prime I've even setup WiFi dirrectly from the initial setup wizard when it was asking how do I connect to internet. Still nothing
Later edit: I've tried to setup a WiFi access point from mobile (WiFi tethering). The access point is created but not visible to any device. It seems like the "emitting" part is not working, only the "reception" is ok.

I know that you are here from quite some time and into this things and has no intention to offend you. Have you tried a backup and format of the SDcard? I saw this as a solution in one of the official ICS threads.
And what is the logcat saying when you enable WiFi?

No, no, please, no offence taken. Sorry if it sounded this way. But as you said, I'm here for some time and learned alot (thanks to this wonderful community) and I just wanted to say that I've tried through the "normal" ways. The logcat is as you see in my previous post (last code quote). There are only some rows because the rest are related to other things....
I've taken another logcat while starting up WiFi and then scan. Attached
I'll also try to format sdcard. This indeed is something I didn't try yet (I thought is not related). Wouldn't be the same thing if I just take out the card completely? For the test purpose I don't care what files are there and if some apps won''t work

From your first logcat:
E/WifiHW ( 1674): Unable to open connection to supplicant on "/data/system/wpa_supplicant/wlan0": No such file or directory
and you have noticed the other one yourself:
Error WifiHW 1670 Unable to open connection to supplicant on "wlan0": No such file or directory
It seems like a permission issue to me not a hardware fault. LIke I mentioned the same happened to me several times (WiFi works, sees the networks but refuses to connect) What is strange that usually a data wipe/clean install solves this.

Not sure is this possible but your /data partition seems not wiped properly. Can you make a factory reset on your current rom?

I wish...unfortunately not . I have mobile data (3G/HSDPA) with 1.5 GB traffic and 7.2 Mbps speed. It's enough for browsing the forum, even to download ROMs and updates.
Now I've noticed that not only WiFi is not workind...BT is not working as well. Cannot connect to my car kit and it was working before with almost all the ROMs.Since I first noticed the WiFi problem, I didn't try BT so I think the problem came in the same moment for both. I realy hope that is not something hardware related and it can be fixed. But I just don't know what else to check/do. I wanted to buy an One S but I didn't receive an answer from my carrier yet.

Maybe trying the latest firmware (from the thread that keeps your recovery and hboot). This is the last resort before going for hardware check I suppose...

Getting rid of wlan_rx_wake wakelocks

Hey guys,
have you noticed that your device uses up a lot more battery on certain wifi networks (e.g. at work or university)? It is probably caused by the wlan_rx_wake wakelock.
From the wakelocks database:
Rationale: Wifi chip received a packet from somewhere - On a Galaxy S II, lots of these combined with the fact that the device takes 650 msec to resume from suspend and 150 to go back to sleep means that occasional wifi packets coming in will skyrocket Android OS usage. As an extreme example, run the following from a Linux box when wifi sleep policy is "never" and watch your deep sleep percentages plummet, your battery drain, and Android OS skyrocket: ping -i 5 <wifi IP address of phone>
Know actions: Use a sniffer to determine the cause of the traffic.

So apparently some other device in the network keeps waking up the Nexus. If the problem occurs in your home network you can easily find out which device is causing the problem by using Shark and Wireshark. You'll get a log that shows every network activity.
Here are some tips from a similiar thread at the SGSII-forums (thanks!):
use a static IP instead of DHCP (you may have to set a static IP every time you sign up in that particular network)
disable IPv6 protocol on your phone - see below
update your router firmware
buy a gaming adapter for your Wifi network that gets the DHCP IP adress, but gives your phone a static IP
optimise router settings: click
Windows network is causing the problem - solution here: click
Change wireless network encryption method, change wifi channel, instead of using auto baseband use only 2.4 or 5GHz baseband (Wi - Fi - advanced - Wi - Fi frequency band)
turn off uPNP in router/AP
t urn off netbios in windows network ("Go to Network and Sharing Center then change adapter settings. Right click on your wireless and select Properties.
Click on the ipv4 and then the properties button. Select Advanced, go to the Wins tab and disable tcp over netbios.")

TP Link routers: disable the print server in USB settings
Asus routers: disable AiCloud
disable Dropbox Lan Sync
disable wireless on (HP) printers
disable Canon network scan utility.
Using another kernel might also help to solve this problem: but I haven't tried that yet.

He has merged some wifi driver patches which should adress this problem. It reduced the wakelocks for me to 1 min in over 8 hours on my home network and to 3 min in one hour ony my university network!
So it should be possible to get rid of this problem in your home network.
But what about work or university networks? There are even more devices connected so the problem gets even worse. In Europe we have the Eduroam wifi network at many universities. If I'm connected to this network I get about 20 min wakeup time in one hour. There are a lot of ARP, DHCP and IPv6 request from different sources. Unfortunately you can't change anything about the configuration on your university/school/work network, so we need to find a solution to block these requests on our phone.
A solution for the IPv6 requests might be to disable IPv6 on your phone if you don't use it. In terminal:

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/wlan0/disable_ipv6
Change the 1 to a 0 if you want to reactivate IPv6. Android resets this setting every time you connect to a network, so you might try Tasker to do this.

Thanks, this was a useful post. When I am at work on their wifi my phone doesn't go to sleep and definitely drains the battery quickly. Hopefully a better solution can be found.

Been having this wakelock as well. Almost all of the packets being picked up by my phone are being sent by my router to random ports. No idea what is really causing it, but it is pretty annoying. Doesnt seem to drain much battery from the device though.

Apparently this is a known problem. Franco has already merged two fixes from Google in his kernel which reduce the wakelock, but still don't eliminate it completely. But I'm sure that this issue will soon be resolved with custom kernels or even an update from Google.

I'm hoping for this to be fixed too. My N4 didn't exhibit this wakelock, and my N5 is not deep sleeping at all when I'm at work as a result. I'm just using LTE at work, which is okay, but still not the best solution.

Franco Kernel didn´t help at all, since he seem to include all the google wifi patches as well, the official Google update is unlikely to solve the problem... so pissed off by this, eating up my battery so quickly I have to switch off wifi completely (and I hardly have cell data reception here at my workplace) ... sucks!

Thanks for a great summary of causes and the info I needed to finally contain it. This problem had been dogging me since I got the N5 on my home network.
I tried static IP, no good.
I tried wifi-off on sleep, no good (never got to sleep i guess!!).
I tried forcing 5 GHz, no good.
Finally I followed the advice to Disable IPv6, IP Helper service, shell hardware detection service and the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service on each Windows PC, and my stay awake time from Android OS plummeted from hours to minutes which I can deal with.
May not work for everyone, but seems to have done it for me. Thanks again.

Thank you for the post. It makes me nervous that I'm getting this wake lock. I previously got it on my GNex and Nexus7 (2012). I tried every method above to fix but got nowhere. For whatever reason my Nexus 4 didn't suffer from this. Hopefully I can figure something out for my new nexus 5

Thanks for this thread. Not sure if it will help or not but I have done all the things in the op and will report back. Have to start somewhere I guess. Although this isn't totally killing my battery in home .8% per hour will sleeping at night It by far is the biggest thing waking my phone. In 9 hrs I have 45 minutes of wake and 35 come from this. If I can get this under control I an sure I can get a little better battery performance. :good:

Hi, I have done everything you have listed, though I am still experiencing the wakelock. I have an HP wireless printer so I think this is the problem. Though, what could I do to stop it from creating the wakelock on my phone? This doesn't list what you need to do for the HP printer. Thanks in advance.

Any recommendations for a good modem/router that will not cause these wakelocks?

Before stopping I used to get some regularly spaced packets from 192.168.1.1 (router) to 255.255.255.255 UDP 7437 .. Bite completely stopped..

Why am I getting this notification for the 1st time in approx 2 months that have got a OPO, despite that am connected to WiFi?

This sort of thing normally pops up when the WiFi network wants you to go to some sort of page, this is usually for a login to free WiFi hotspots, I assume this Dlink is your WiFi? Perhaps it wants you to open this page to change a configuration or login. This doesn't seem to be Android related at all but more to do with your router, could you try tapping on the notification and screenshot the page it opens, if any.

He's right. This looks like a router setting that you might have turned on like guest mode.

When I tap on it, G chrome takes me to 173.194.35.96/generate _204
Google results of this IP......173.194.35.96 which is Spy-IP.com
and Google has different results for this 173.194.35.96/generate _204
It never happened earlier in the past 2 months.
Been using the same OPO and same WiFi.
Any solutions to resolve it?

This is a router setting then, that page is some sort of login. Perhaps guest mode has been enabled on your router? Try this:
Settings>Wi-Fi>Modify Network>Show advanced options> Change DHCP to Static. Here, find the box that says Gateway and note the IP here. Now change Static back to DHCP and close this menu.
Go into the browser on your OPO and put in this Gateway IP, this will take you to the router config. The login for this is usually on the bottom of the router, otherwise the default can be found by searching the router model number, try finding a guest mode setting and turning it off - I really don't know... You can also change your WiFi name and password here if you like

Another strange thing all internet/WiFi related apps work fine including G Chrome and Mail in it but no GMail..........

Glad to hear, I am strongly advising against the factory restore. This is a feature of Android, although it is strange for it to be happening in this circumstance there is nothing it will achieve.

3. All apps working with WiFi except GMail and GPS.
4. Still see the notification.

Your phone is working fine, it seems you have triggered some sort of bug in Android's WIFI login detection.
The system works by accessing DNS and check if the resulting IP is owned by google.com or some network-internal redirection/replacement by a login page.
Now, the IP 173.194.35.96 is owned by Google, so the DNS lookup obviously worked perfectly but for some reason the phone gets an unexpected answer from that server. Which makes me guess to one of the 2 following options:
a) one of the computers in your network is infected and Google keeps showing the "Prove you're human" captcha window on requests.
b) your provider is replacing failed DNS lookups with it's own "helper" page which for some reason is making Android trip. If possible, change the DNS servers in your router to either OpenDNS or Google DNS.

That's entirely your choice. However I would only recommend enabling it if it's the "Push to WPS" method and not constantly on - WPS is broken and depending on your router it takes between 1 to 10'000 attempts (1 second to ~ 2 hours) to break into your WIFI. Not good!
