[Q] Upgrade CyanogenMod 10.1 with goo.im not working - General Questions and Answers

Hello Everyone,
Im new to this forum as a poster, I do have read quite a few tutorials on here on how to unlock/root/s-off my device but now Im stuck again and can't seem to find a solution.
I have a HTC Sensation Z710e and I'm running CyanogenMod 10.1-20130309-Albinoman887-pyramid. Now whenever I watch a movie I there are no troubles BUT when I scroll in the movie or pause it or whatever I get an error. I looked it up and found out my version is an unstable one. So a friend of mine explained to me I could update via Goo.im, and here's the problem. It says there are no updates for my device even though that friend of mine updated to 10.1-20130601-Albinoman887-pyramid in the same way.
I did get a message like 2 weeks ago there was an update available for my device but when I clicked the notice nothing happened.
Now my biggest question is, is there some way I can download an update zip in stead of the 10.1-20130601-Albinoman887-pyramid Rom and have to start all over again with all my apps, or am I just ****ed and need to start backupping what I want to backup and start over again?
Thx for any and all insights,
Marius

well if the rom is just an update from the same rom, get it from another repo (download it from your phone or pc) and flash it with TWRP/CWM
It should work, I've done many rom upgrades without wiping my system.

So you're saying I should just "install from sdcard" with my 4EXT and it will not wipe all my settings? Even though its a completely "new" ROM but just an update of the one I have right now? I dont have to invoke something like "update"?
I did already download the file with Goo.im (that did work ) and it was about 157mb, that gives me the feeling its a completely new ROM, that's why Im a bit hesitant
Thx for the info though

MariusJP is right, there's no need for a wipe when you are flashing an update, but it may depend from ROM to ROM and from update to update. Just flash it and look for problems. If there are problems you'll have to wipe.
You should do a Backup via CWM before flashing any new software especially when it's not a stable one.
Flashing this update won't wipe your settings and data.

[Resolved] [Q] I've made a mess of my Nexus S...

Hey guys,
This is my very first post, just to let you all know, so please have some patience! Thanks!
Anyway, so I have a Nexus S 3G (Canada) and I have rooted it, unrooted it, installed roms and everything. I works...for the most part. It's giving me all sorts of different little errors and what not. So I was wondering, how can I COMPLETLY start ALL OVER, as in, factory new, like when you buy a new phone (without the carrier stuff). I wanted to start fresh, fresh out-of-the-oven kind of start, do you understand what I mean? FACTORY FRESH. Thank you all so much in advance!
well download your phone's stock rom and of course unroot it.Regarding the stock bloatware you can modify the custom rom by going in system/app and deleting the apps you dont want to be installed

Thanks for the reply, I've already done that, and I'm still getting errors and other weird things, like not going out of airplane mode, failing to download the OTA 2.3.6 Update (I'm on stock 2.3.1 unrooted, I think), and I don't know if this is normal, but ClockworkMod Recovery is still there. Am I still rooted or something? Plus, when I try to flash a restore, from let's say Gingerbread 2.3.6 Stock, it says MD5 mismatch! How about if it's an ICS AOSP Build, it gives me the normal white Google logo like normal, but then just stays stuck there.
Is the anyway to erase EVERYTHING and start over like NOTHING was ever done to the device? Like when they are first distributing the the device and no one has ever touched it? Is there anyway to do just that?
There is a difference between being "rooted" and using a rooted ROM. You could be using a non-rooted ROM, and your phone can still be "rooted". The first step in rooting a phone is changing SECURITY-ON to SECURITY-OFF. If you REALLY want to go back to when you first got the device, you will need to find a way to turn SECURITY from OFF to ON. When it is off, you are able to access the bootloader, in turn allowing you to install a recovery to install a ROM with rooted permissions. I think the best way to go back to stock would be for you to first download the latest OTA update for your device, do a FULL WIPE of everything on your phone thru recovery (data, system, cache, dalvik cache). Then installing the latest OTA. I do not think however, that this is how you turn your device S-ON.
I hope I've been of some help.

Thanks for your excellent reply, but I have also already done that, EXACTLY that, multiple times too. Dalvik, battery stats, factory reset/delete all user data, wipe cache partition and fix permissions. What else is there left to do?
Thank you all so very much!!!!

Custom Roms for Skyrocket ICS

Hello Everyone, I am using a newly rooted Skyrocket on ICS. I updated it from GB to stock ICs using kies. I got the phone through AT&T as a replacement after every other replacement was defected and rooted it with Odin the next day.
My problem is I can't find any custom roms that I am sure work on Skyrocket ICS and I also can't get CWM Touch to work. Now I am a veteran to Android but am fairly to new to rooting so please go easy on me!
Roms are in the development section. They'll all work once you figure out CWM recovery. The stickies in general and development contain noob guides and such that will get you in the right direction.
I'm not sure there is anything we can do for you until you gain more information -that is unless I've misunderstood your intent. You've rooted the device, so your capable :good:

I am curious, when you say rooted with ODIN do you mean you flashed CWMT to the phone? Rooting and ODIN = 2 VERY different things.
If you flashed the CWMT with ODIN make sure that you flashed the correct version. Goto clockworkmod.com and verify the version.
Once you have CWM up and running, installing Cyanogenmod 9 RC2 is very simple.
This procedure will wipe all your apps, data and settings (but it will NOT touch your SD cards, so don’t worry about those).
Backup your Apps and important data
Once you have CWM working do a nandroid backup
Download the latest version of the ROM from the official Cyanogenmod get.cm page.
Download the Google Apps package.
This will install apps like Market, Gmail, etc. which are not present in the ROM by default.
Transfer the downloaded zip files to the internal SD card on the phone.
Turn off the phone, then boot into CWM recovery.
For this, press and hold these 3 buttons together until Samsung’s screen shows up: Volume UP + Volume Down + Power. Phone will boot into CWM recovery.
Perform a wipe:
Select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm.
Wait a while till the data wipe is complete.
Select advanced, and then select wipe dalvik cache » Yes – wipe dalvik.
Then go back to the main recovery menu.
Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard.
Scroll to the ROM file on the SD card and select it.
Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen. The ROM will start installing.
After installation is complete, go back to the main recovery menu.
Repeat steps above for installing the rom, but this time choose the Google apps .zip to install Google apps.
After the installation of Google apps package is complete, select go back then select reboot system now to reboot the phone.
I must say some others report having to use Darksidewipe also.
Just do a search for Installing CM9 on a skyrocket in Google... It will also have links to the zips.
**** ALSO, be advised there is reportedly a brickbug on select Samsung phones that has to do with a corrupt eMMC...******
Good luck my friend. I have been running the nighty builds for a while and just updated to the RC2 build last night. Silky smooth. Just wish I had more time to play with it before CM10 (JB) comes out...

The stickies in the Development section and Q&A section are very useful. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773659 here is where you can get info on how to install CWM.
As for ROMs, I'd go over the ones listed in the Development section. We're now starting to get a lot more choices for skyrocket like CM9, AOKP and then custom ROMs like SKY ICS etc.
Thanks you have been a big gelp

I flashed a gapps zip from the site you linked me to and now when the phone turns on it says setup wizard is not responding and give me the option to force close. Nothing happens from that point its just stuck in a force close loop. I hope to god i didnt brick this thing. Is there a way to fix this problem? I didnt backup before flashing gapps and ive tried to restore the phone and wipe it clean but no luck. Any help would be greatly appriciated because i just got the phone, mainly to use it as a fun project seeing as smartphone customization has become my new hobby, and Im usually very good at it but now I am just afraid ive bricked the phone and I bought it unlocked so i paid a fair amount of money for i. Please help if there is a solution. Thank You,
Do you still have access to CWM? Can you make a clean install of any ROM? Wipe dalvik, cache, factory reset, format boot, system, data, cache and install ROM.
Download another ROM (and follow instructions from OP) which is not the one you initially had problems with (or download again - might be a corrupt zip file).
Thank you

Thank you very much, I followed and executed your instructions and now im running ice cream sandwich 4.0.4. not bad from going from almost a bricked phone to running one of the best versions of android. I downloaded offical roms this time instead of custom ones, first a version 2.3.4 and a 4.0.3, flashed the ics rom first and worked like a charm. Thank you very much, even got an update 5 min after i flashed the rom. You saved me 200$ and the embaracement of having a worthless phone. Im sure ill have more questions in the future, so glad there are ppl out there with the same passion for smartphone customization that i have. Much obliged. Omar

[Q] New guy here, I could use some help with ROM

Hello, I got HTC Sensation XE, and I was thinking of upgrading my ROM to ViperS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671547
I got a few questions about upgrading my ROM..
1. If I upgrade to ViperS, and I am not happy with my new ROM, am I able to move back to the normal Android (I guess this is called ''flashing''..?)
2. Am I able to use every app from the Google play store?
3. I suppose this ViperS ROM will work with my Sensation XE as well..?
4. Does upgrading ROM harm/damage files, phone, or anything?
5. Am I going to have problems with Wi-fi after upgrading? (I've heard some guys have had problems with wifi)
EDIT: More questions:
1. What ''unlocks/mods'' do I need to do to upgrade ROM? By ''mods'' I mean things such as rooting and S-Off etc.
2. Which should I do first? Flash? Root? HTC Dev unlock?
3. Is Super Utility easiest way to root? It seems like it is the best one for it, since 90% happens with PC.
4. Last one, is flashing boot.img = ROM flashing..? Or is Installing .zip from recovery = ROM flashing? The Super Utility has ability to flash boot.img and installing .zip once I have HTC Dev unlocked.
Once again, thanks already.
(Yes I have googled and checked all over the forums, but I want to be 100% sure of everything, I don't want to destroy my quite new phone)
Thanks for help!

Hi,
Follow THIS GUIDE to the letter
1.Make a nandroid backup (in backup and restore in 4 EXT)
2.Should be able to,once you have rooted
3.yes
4.Should be OK
5.Follow the guide above.
I've ran viper for a long time before flashing to jelly bean and I never had any problems with Wi-Fi or tethering. I upgrade or flash a lot and never had any trouble luckily. Yes the play store will work perfectly with viper. I think everything will go fine. Are you s off? If not don't forget to flash boot image. If your s off all you need to do is wipe cash and wipe dalvik and wipe data factory reset. Do this in 4ext recovery then choose zip and install then reboot. You will be good to go.
Hope this answers your questions. Also for any applications you want to keep use titanium backup for that. Remember to do you're nandroid backup before you flash anything this way if you get into a pinch you can always restore your previous rom. This is very important and a good practice to have as a safe guard. Happy flashing. Best wishes

[Q] Please help with my phone; i am in deep depression :(

On 1/17/13, i recieved the samsung galaxy s blaze 4g, i know it is an old model phone but i've been trying to root this phone.
This is the first phone i have tried to root and i have failed at it, however i did try my best.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgUZV3EDUnY

I used these two links to try to root my phone, i followed each step by step, did not check anything but "AUTO REBOOT" but i somehow soft bricked my phone.
I have searched the forums multiple times and i found that i have the same problem as this person.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104969
Once again, i followed these instructions and i ended up at the screen "Welcome to SGH-T769, TOUCH THE ANDROID TO BEGIN" but whenever i touch the android, it gives me and error "GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK HAS STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY"
Sometimes, it will get as far as "Setup wizard" but would give me the same error
to think of it, regarding the time when i was rooting, i dont think i had my microsd card in my phone which probably led to the problem, god im such a noob
and as a result i did not complete this step "After downloading all the files first move the Superuser.zip to the root of your sdcard..not internal sdcard but the removable one. Then unzip the Odin zip and once unzipped:
" but for now i think i need to fix the google service framework problem?
PLEASE HELP, many thanks in advance

You soft bricked your phone because you are using 4.0.4 as the device now ships with ICS- k0nane's root kernel won't work for ICS. That root method only works for GB. You need to put CWM on your phone to root ICS (flash superuser or supersu zip through CWM). Also once you have CWM on your phone you can flash any ROM -stock or otherwise- to your phone through CWM. The link with the other person having the same issue was resolved...

Try to boot cwm and factory reset to clear up framework issue. Edit: wipe davlik also (located in advanced) .Yes putting SU zip on your sd card is right. You will need to 'install from SD card' and then choose zip to install to flash su for root. If framework continues to be an issue after factory reset then I would suggest flashing a custom ROM (same flashing process as root normally - read ROM op first!). There are quite a few stock based ROMs that are great. Or you could go straight to JB/cm10. Up to you.. there's so many great ROMs for this device!

After flashing a new ROM , just set phone up as usual when it boots up... then just enjoy having a kicka$$ phone no need to re-root.. just read installation of ROM good write it down if you must I did when I first started. Look and shop around there's plenty of great ROMs for this phone

Actually, depending upon what time frame you rooted the idont device, rooting this phone with CWM is SIGNIFICANTLY easier than jailbreaking. Your problems of course, started because you didn't come here in the first place. Had you done that, it would have been a breeze.
As for your question about changing roms and will you have to re-root?
Don't look at it that way...If you want to switch to another rom that is applied through CWM, you're pretty much doing the same process you did when you came here, you're just only selecting the other rom through CWM. Don't forget to reset/wipe through CWM first though!

is that not extremely tedious, i thought titanium backup only backs up like game data or soemthing.
is there anyway i could backup the apps that i already downloaded through apptoide and google play?
and also i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228 to root my phone, does that mean i can only download ics 4.0.4 roms and kernels? (do i download roms and kernels serperately?)
ive heard that jelly bean is the lastest and fastest one, is there anyway for me to get this and what rom would u recommend?

if your rooted on ICS u can flash anything in cwm. For a daily driver I use cm 10, bug free. There's also slim bean, aokp, pacman, paranoid android.
Whatever you choose create a backup first in cwm, than flash ROM, than gapps, than factory reset/wipe cache/ in advanced wipe delvik. Reboot and give it time to boot. I would also recommend a launched such as nova or holo. They will allow u to backup your home screen and drawer preferances , and hide apps. Google can automatically redownload all your apps minus any save data. Tb can be a pain when switching roms, not all apps will work coming from ICS to jelly bean. Make sure and be safe, go ahead and write down all your contacts before flashing. I've flashed jb on three different phones and lost the contacts each time. After the initial flash of jb , flashing updates and such you won't lose any contacts as long as they are synced with Google. Happy flashing

if your rooted you grab the zip from here http://get.cm/?device=t769 , now you need the gapps or known as your Google app pack you can find those in the blaze bible. Once both are downloaded, reboot into cwm. Now flash the cm 10 zip ( go for the newest one the stable is quite old and missing some features) once it completes flash the gapps zip. Now do a factory reset, now wipe cache, last wipe delvik. Once you've done these steps reboot your phone. Now be patient and wait. It can take in some cases 10 mins to completely boot. If everything was done correctly you will be greeted with a setup prompt. Enjoy
Apps from Google play are listed in my apps. Check your apps play page to see what version of android they are compatible with
Oh yeah your ROM has your kernel included. The kernels listed in the dev section are for over clocking and under voltage and are for people who've done this before. Besides I don't use them, not necessary.
