Hi there,
just ordered my Asus Memo Pad HD7 and I didnt find a single Thread about it, am I just blind or are there none?
I am looking for Custom Roms etc, guess it's just a little early for that, but maybe just rooting works?
Is there a Thread or sub forum for the Memo Pad HD7 ?
noone?

I am from Germany, so i wanted to check Amazon.de when it will be available and they had 2 left in Stock, so i quickly put down the order and already have it now
So how does it work for you? Do you recommend it? I love the price. I am considering buying 3-4 for the family.
Thank you

well its really feels kinda cheap and microsd card is killing me (there is just an open slot) and its gets an error every ~30min, microsd worked fine in galaxy s3 before...
but well, thats the downside, the rest is kinda nice and the price is killing, so yeah !
Also got it from Amazon.de, I guess they received an early batch and started shipping immediately. I'm quite happy with it, it's feels okay (plastic but nice), is fast and runs smoothly. Modifications by Asus are few and usually well made - except for a permanent button in the left hand corner that lets you used floating apps because you can't remove it even if you don't like using such apps
As for the sd card, I had the same problem two days ago but it stopped. Probably it just was inserted slightly askew. The missing cover for it is a bit of a design flaw but a short piece of transparent duct tape can fix that (It's a 149 € device after all)
Since Amazon started shipping them early, I had hoped someone had found a way to root them already, which is the only thing that bugs me at the moment. Hopefully someone will hack it soon. I expect there will be quite a demand for those devices since the Nexus 7.2 is still not out and this is basically a Nexus 7 with better hardware and SD card support anyway

Wish I could order one here in the U.S. I've been waiting ever since they announced this thing!
Worth the price
Hi guys,
I already got it and tested it now quite a while. Yeah it feels a bit cheap but it certainly is! I will use it for surfing on the couch and reading book, comics etc. so it doesn't really bother. And that's what Asus wanted with this little thingy.
The screen looks pretty much like SGS2 quality screen, of course a bit bigger.
The Asus android is.. well.. ok i guess ^^. It will give you constantly show you a symbol in the upper bar when you install a SDcard and the wifi direct did only work a single time..
I will use other roms if they're available i think. I already read about some devices with GPS failure or SDcard slot failure, so i think the price does come with low quality. But you can change it as long as you get a working one^^.
The case is completely ok. Many described it as slippy because it's plastic. Hmja it is, but if you don't have too sweaty hands it's not worse than a iPhone 3G or so.
Mine has a bit of an sharp edge around the upper side. well..
So for 150 € its really okay. But with new roms it would be even better, i am sure.
Hey guys. I just got the tablet and it is great. I have a question about screen-protectors.
They are very few and very expensive screen protectors that are specified for Memo pad HD 7. My question is: are there other(cheaper) screen protectors that will fit the screen area of the tablet? It will be a temporally solution until cheap china-made screen-protectors hit the market.

They are mostly expensive because they are also non-reflective. You could try buying one made for the predecessor (like this one) and cut away parts that don't fit.
Thank you for the advice. I will order some from eBay.
btw do you use any type of case on your tablet? And what are your thoughts on available cases for the Memo pad HD 7?

I tried to order one but it turned out to be one for generic tablets, not tailored to the Memo Pad HD 7 (this one). I don't know if there are any real ones available yet

I ordered those (made for Nexus 7):
http://dx.com/p/protective-matte-screen-protector-film-guard-for-google-nexus-7-150173
http://dx.com/p/protective-pu-leather-case-for-google-nexus-7-tablet-black-152251
Have not received yet. But it should be almost equal size with Nexus 7. The main differences are connectors on top and backside camera

Are you located in the U.S. or elsewhere? I've been checking every day and haven't yet found a single one available in the States. Some people say the official release date for the U. S. is tomorrow, the 10th, but I don't know if that's correct or not.

I'm in Bulgaria, Europe. I ordered http :// ww w.amazon.de/gp/product/B00D6GZDHA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1" (delete spaces) but it says "not in stock" and i am waiting for message from Amazon..
Screen-protectors, none..
Thanks, that explains it. Europe got the tablet a week or two ago, but it's still not in the U.S.
Hello again. I'm reporting after having some full days of experience with the tablet. It is flawless! Best value for that money. Still have not got my hands on proper accessories Amazon still haven't shipped the PersonaCover and the screen protectors haven't arrived yet.
I have a generic tablet question: Is there a way of using the front camera as a sensor to not dim/switch-off the screen? When i'm watching the screen it will not switch-off. Something like the build in sensor on the Galaxy S3?
Why there is no dedicated asus memo pad hd7 sub-forum?
I'm a bit new, but its kinda hard to look for the topics all around the forum!

I wonder if anyone knows where to buy a replacement phone housing for the Desire HD. I have dropped my Desire HD by accident and now the shell is badly dented and scratched. Brought the phone back to HTC and they said it would cost $150 just to replace it as the warranty does not cover user faults.
Check the box your phone came in.
If it says 'HTC Desire HD' on the box, you can get a free replacement at any phone shop that has one in stock until midnight tonight 13th October.

Until then your best option is to buy a case to cover it up.

Firstly, good effort for resurrecting a pretty dead thread.
Secondly, realise that the guy is claiming he had a DHD before anyone else had one.
Thirdly, he claims the battery cannot be replaced - only on the DHD it can be (and if you take the cover off, it literally falls out!)
So while we would like to help the guy, he's not exactly provided believable evidence.

Why would anyone lie about something like that?
It is more likely the indentation is so bad the battery simply wont come out. Also I believe there are a select few who get to test devices long before they hit the shelves, I dont think he/she is one however I do believe it may be a test device.
I am also interested to know this. Nothing on ebay yet. Anyone know a retailer likely to sell housings? Unless anyone wants to swap a black for a brown?
Not sure why everyone here so adamant the op is lying... it's not like it's a big deal.
Mobile phones are often finished months in advance of a public release for testing, PR purposes, sales purposes (you don't think a mobile network gets to see and play with a device before deciding to stock it?) etc etc
I had the very first colour mobile about almost a year before it was available to the public and even months before anybody knew it existed. Why? I was working on developing a marketing campaign for it. It was one of only two in existence and it was buggy as hell....
Also he may not of realised that the battery compartment is separate from the sim card and not noticed it...
Btw - I want to know about a new housing too... this phone is so smooth it gives the expression dropping calls a whole new meaning....

Not to let this drag on or anything - of course there are versions and prototypes and ready for market versions of the phone, but would they be handing out a model of this hotly anticipated phone to someone who doesn't realise there's a battery compartment (which is a different colour to the rest of the casing, no less)? I think not.
Housings will probably take a while to filter down, the more obvious 'immediate' accessories like micro USB cables and docks are being churned out at 1000 a minute at the moment.
Well People , i got my Stock from Vodafone Australia not a joke either .

For anyone who does not mind full retail price ($149), you can purchase it direct from Samsung: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/BKC-1C9USBGSTA
I am holding out for it to show up at more vendors. I suspect it will cost between $99 and $129 very quickly.
About the Samsung Keyboard (gorgeous, btw). Can you type on it and touch/pinch on the screen while it's upright? I mean, would it easily fall back? The rear support looks slippery/flimsy.

That's my only real concern also. The keyboard and case itself looks MUCH nicer than anything else on the market. I don't like cases that cover the sides of the screen (which the Samsung doesn't), and the keyboard looks larger and slimmer than any of the competitor's offerings.
Exactly and the YouTube video is crap, the thing lays flat nearly all the time...not helpful.

I have found it to actually be really quite sturdy, even on very slippery desk surfaces.
The stand itself is a quite ridged, yet has some flexability in that it wont snap under pressure.
The part of it that makes contatact with the desk or whatever is coated in a very grippy rubberized material that grips anything really sturdily.
It does not slipthats for sure.
So yea you can absolutely pinch and zoom while in laptop style angles on a desk, or leather couch.
The whole case is really thin and nicely designed, I also have the Vipertek slim leather case, and this is only very slightly thicker.
It does add quite a bit of weight to it, but its not to bad, and feels very solid.
The keyboard works pretty well, there is some quirks that I assume are related to androids implimentation of BT keyoards and hope to see addresed in ICS, but all in all I find it works pretty well.
When I bought it I was only really planning on using it when I knew I would need it for some reason, and still primarily have my tab in the Vipertek most of the time, but since I put my tab in, it has stayed in, and I don't think I will go back to my old case.
Can you flip the keyboard behind the screen and just use the screen say on your lap?

Nope, unfortunatly you cannot.
It almost goes all the way around but not quite.
That is probably one of the main drawbacks, but I have found it to be less of an issue then I thought it would be.
Thanks for the response. I use it in portrait mode a lot and don't always need the keyboard. I would definitely get this if it wasn't so expensive!

Hi all,
The Infinity is my first tablet and I was thrilled when I was finally able to order one and it shipped out. The first night I had it I noticed that it had arrived with a couple scratches on the side and there was unpainted surface showing. I emailed Amazon about this and they offered to either refund 20% of my purchase or replace the tablet. While still deciding which road to take, I noticed that my screen was separating from the metal body at the bottom of the tablet (near the dock connector). I returned it and received a new one promptly.
Unfortunately my new one is also defective. When you hold the screen in landscape the right side of the screen is loose and makes a clicking sound when you grab onto it (actually more annoying than what was wrong with the first tablet). Amazon suggested to check with ASUS. ASUS only offered to have me send it in to be serviced (not replaced) and that I would have to pay shipping.
Do I now return this tablet to Amazon again and hope that I finally get a well constructed tablet? Are ASUS tablets always this hit or miss in terms of their quality?

It's just frustrating that this one is clicking at the speaker when the first tablet had other problems but no clicking (I still have them both in my possession so I checked to make sure I hadn't just accidentally not noticed it)
It's a somewhat weaker spot on the backside that many units suffer from (I haven't spotted it so far on mine). As fr as the reports go, it does not impact norml usage, so I guess it is okay. (Nonetheless, on a tablet priced as the TF700 is, I should expect the esign to be thought through a little better.)

My initial tablet had a very small amount of screen give near the speaker. But this loud audible clicking seems a bit much to tolerate. While I can still use the tablet normally, it sure is annoying to hear it click every time I move my hand.

Like popping bubble packing... it's addictive!
I ordered my amethyst one from Amazon. Structurally, the tablet is very sound. No separation or weaknesses.
But I do have some notable backlight bleed that you can see in the backlight bleed thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29335840&postcount=7
I am also experiencing two audio problems: electronic squealing from the headphone jack when watching movies with BS Player and MX player. It is a moderately loud continuous "beeep.......beep.....beeeeeep....beeeeep....beeep.....beep" that is audible at normal volumes and when the volume is muted. Wear headphones, watch an mkv video file, and let me know if you hear this. I also have serious bluetooth audio lag. If I use a bluetooth headset instead of stereo headphones, I don't hear any squealing, but the sound is at least 1-2 seconds behind the video.
As a comparison, neither my Galaxy Tab 10.1 or my Galaxy Nexus have any of these issues. No backlight bleed, squealing, or bluetooth lag. I can live with the backlight bleed on the Infinity if the two audio issues can be fixed. Otherwise, I will need to return this unit. Almost everything else about this tablet is stellar, so I would hate to return it.
Update
Received tablet number three today from Amazon. This one makes the clicking sound of tablet 2 and has the loose screen of tablet 1. Not sure what to do now.
Do I give up on the Infinity and go to the Nexus 7?

I just purchased a tf700 2days ago and i love it but always wishing it to have a pen digitizer , now that the galaxy note 10.1 is already available at bestbuy , the same place where i purchase my tf700 i'm going to return it and get the samsung. I really like the resolution on the asus but the productivity samsung offers using the digitizer is something thats hard to resist. I'm also using an ipad3 so i know how hard to go back to a low resolution like the samsung.
Is it a good move to replace it or just keep it?

I just purchased a tf700 2days ago and i love it but always wishing it to have a pen digitizer , now that the galaxy note 10.1 is already available at bestbuy , the same place where i purchase my tf700 i'm going to return it and get the samsung. I really like the resolution on the asus but the productivity samsung offers using the digitizer is something thats hard to resist. Well, I think the Infinity with the keyboard dock (and a wireless mouse) is a super productivity device. I can't really see making that much use of the pen digitizer, so for me it's a no brainer...I would keep the Infinity. But it depends on what you think you'd get more use out of.
Good luck.
I am in the same position as the OP except I have both of them sitting next to me at home. What to do, What to do!
why not read thru the thread thats about 2 threads down from this one which is about the Infinity v. The Note?

Since you have both....what do you prefer, screen resolution or battery life? Digitizer pen or a keyboard attachment? Plastic or aluminum shell? Use the devices and see which one preforms better.
You'll need to make the choice.
A box of 10 capacitive stylus is available at Ebay for $3, problem solved!
I say go with the Infinity, Samsung's update track record is horrible, and the plastic build quality is lacking compared to the Aluminum shell on the Infinity.

You guys really need to do some research. You're comparing apples to oranges.
I traded my Nexus for the Note on Friday and immediately fell in love. Of course, there are a few things I would change about the Note – there are a few things I would change about every smartphone. Aside from being stuck on Gingerbread (with TouchWiz no less), though, I have very little to complain about. And after spending just shy of a week with the phablet, I'm surprised by how much I actually find myself using what I thought to be the least notable feature of the Note, the S Pen (stylus).
Being a stylus, granted it is far better than your typical capacitive stylus and comes with additional functionality (the button), I honestly never thought I would use it all that much. I had no reason to hate it, like most people do, but I figured it would stay in its slot in the back of the phone. I've had my fair share of capacitive styluses (styli?) and found them to be no better than a shaky, inaccurate finger.
I knew the S Pen was different, but I doubted it could be that much different or better. I had tried it in passing (with a few demo units at CES and with Aaron's Note during his challenge), but a few minutes with it really doesn't do the S Pen any justice or give the users the full scope of its abilities.
So what makes it so much better than your average stylus? For one, it isn't capacitive; it's inductive. Using a capacitive stylus, if you touch your hand to the display while trying to write, your palm may also make marks on the display or cause the application to zoom in or out. Since the S Pen is inductive, when it is in use, capacitive input is shut off entirely until the S Pen is lifted from the screen, so you can rest your palm on the display without worrying. But it also has a tiny point about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen, like resistive styluses of yesteryear. Capacitive styluses come with either felt or rubber tips, making them big and inaccurate.
Like I said, I literally thought I would never use the S Pen. But the Note has replaced the Nexus as my primary device, and I have noticed that I'm using the S Pen almost every time I turn the device on – which is very often. Even if I don't use it, I pull the S Pen out when I flip the cover (I'm using the Samsung Flip Cover on my Note, pictured above) around back and have it ready to go if I need it for a screen shot or a quick note.

I am charging them both to 100% before I really get into it with them.
What one do you think would have the better battery life?
The pen is a nice thing to have once and a while.
I will never buy the dock for the ASUS. I want a tablet not a mini computer.
The shell does not really matter to me. The Samsung does not really feel cheap or like it would break easily. If you drop one of them and it is damaged i am sure the other one would would not be in great shape either.
Is there a difference in the screen material?
Isn't having a Samsung and an Apple in the same household against the law or something...
I'm returning my tf700t. I'm not buying another one cause in not playing this game with asus. My tablets screen is popping off and now all of a sudden I'm getting the flickering line on the screen. I thought I was of the Lucky ones and got a "good" one. Wrong.... I'm going to get the note10.1. The case I bought and am selling was supposedly for the tf300t and it fit that one but was way too tight in my opinion and fits this one much better. PM me your email for details and pictures.
Also will add the stylus.

Sounds like you've just had bad luck. On a side note, the note 10.1 has some really cool software on it.
