Lenovo IdeaPhone S920 - Android General

Hello,
I own a Lenovo S920.
I bought it in China and re flashed the firmware of it to a Russian modified.
I'd like to share with you the process that located in the Russian forum:
http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/1346-кастомная-русская-прошивка-для-lenovo-s920-lenovo-forums/
Requirements:
1. USB VCOM Driver http://lenovo-forums.ru/Files/OS/P770/usb_driver_SW_Rom_P770.zip
2. Lenovo USB Driver http://lenovo-forums.ru/Files/OS/P770/LenovoUsbDriver_1.0.1.exe
3. SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0.119_EDR http://lenovo-forums.ru/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=1682
Maybe I'll translate the process later.
Also I found on the Chinese forum a OVERSEAS firmware (S920_ROW_S110_20130515) - updated to "S920_ROW_S114_130626" after installation.
Can be downloaded here: http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=541466&uk=2335146322
The archive password is "bbs.lenovomobile.com"
Installed it. (changed the EBR2 file and flashed again - now using it for everyday use)
Re-partition of the internal storage
I found that the internal memory is parted into Internal Storage and USB Storage - seems useless when inserting an uSD card (the USB storage is sdcard0) and also confusing.
I found a way to re-part the memory so that the Internal Storage became 3.6GB (left 18MB for thr USB Storage because if it's 0MB the phone stop seeing the uSD card). After 1st boot I selected the "SD storage" as "default write disk".(and changed it in all applications ex. Camera)
This is done by editing the HEX of the EBR2 file (I used the OVERSEAS firmware).
Reference (on Russian): http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=383013&st=0#entry16443051
Using this method it's also possible to change all the partitions (system, cache etc.) sizes.
I don't see any added value in it so I only edited the Data partition.
this is my EBR2 and Checksum.ini, before trying anything have a copy of the original EBR2 (as an option to flash back the original partitions)

Rooting
(translation from the link: http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/1700-root-права-lenovo-s920/ )
1. Download the file: http://lenovo-forums.ru/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=3257
2. Copy the apk file to the SDCARD
3. Install the apk file (on the internal memory)
4. Start the app after the installation
5. Choose SuperUser or SuperSU (the writer advise to choose SuperSU)
6. Press "Boromir"
7. (from me) start the SuperSU app and make binaries update.
Done.
Next thing I'd like to do is change the functionality of long press on home button (switch it with the left button)
I'm new in the field of helping others (although I've experience with several smartphones) - so please be patient.

Thank you very much, saturn_frak, for this post. I flashed the OVERSEAS firmware. The IMEIs of my S920 changed, but everything is functioning excellently. So much better than the ROM my phone came with. Can you please expound on "editing the HEX of the EBR2 file" to increase Internal Storage? Should this be done before flashing the ROM? I've been using SD storage since after flashing, so there's been no new installation on the USB Storage. Does that mean that I can flash the OVERSEAS firmware with modified EBR2 file, then restore all my non-system apps with date using Titanium Backup? Can you upload your EBR2 files? Thanks again.

First of all - you should edit the EBR2 before flashing the rom.
What I did is:
1. Backup all the apps with Titanium backup to SDCARD (recheck few times that the selected storage of Titanium backup is the External SDCARD) - if you select in settings->storage->SD storage as a default write disk then your External SDCARD will probably be sdcard0 (otherwise it will be sdcard1...and you should change the location of backups in settings of Titanium backup).
2. Made a copy of the Overseas ROM
3. Changed the parameter CHECKSUM_SWITCH from 1 to 0 (in the file Checksum.ini)
4. Edited the EBR2 (I'll upload later today my EBR2 that making the Internal Storage to be 3.6GB and the USB storage to be 18.59MB)
5. Flashed the changed ROM
6. Changed the Default Write Disk (settings->storage) to SD storage
7. Recovered apps (using Titanium Backup)
*** pay attention that there're applications (like camera) that it's default storage is still the 18MB (changed it in settings)

Hi saturn_frak. If your customized EBR2 was used to flash, will the phone still be able to update via OTA to S920_ROW_S114_130626?

Yes, I did the update and the partitions remain the same - one small thing - the root access gone after the new OTA...need to re-root it afterwards (still didn't made it but I don't think that there'll be a problem)

Problem with my wife's S920 right now. I was hoping to flash using the modified EBR2, but when my wife arrived home, her phone was dead. Battery won't charge anymore. She said there was initially a "battery won't charge warning because of low temperature". After the battery discharged totally, it can't be charged anymore. I hope the problem is just the battery, not the phone. I can actually still flash since it's done with the battery removed, but just can't power up the phone afterwards. I ordered a new battery, but might take 3-4 weeks to arrive. :crying:

with which firmware the problem occur?
the battery not charging even when the phone is turned off?
did you try to flash the original Chinese firmware?
(maybe s/w bug)

I had flashed the unmodified Overseas firmware. It was working great for about a week before the problem occurred. So, I think the problem is either hardware or battery. I do hope it's just the battery.

Hi saturn. I was able to flash the Overseas ROM using you modified EBR2. Great partitioning! However the problem with my phone still persisted even with the new battery The charging port may be the culprit. The phone is still able to flash with the battery pulled out. But, once the phone is plugged to recharge, it spontaneously reboots. So, right now I just use an external charger for the batteries. I hope the phone can still be fixed. Thanks.

Thanks a lot mate... It is now 3.6GB!! Woohooo...

Help Please...
Hey guys, I own the same phone that you guys have (Lenovo S920), rooted, and bloatware removed.
I removed Chrome, LeCalendar, Norton, and Tutorial. Unfortunately, now I cannot update OTA, as the recovery screen is looking for ChromeWithBrowser.apk, which I already removed. I tried installing a signed ChromeWithBrowser apk but it still didn't work. Am now beginning to think that I need to reflash the original ROM just to be able to get the update.
Anybody have any ideas how to solve this OTA issue? Would really appreciate the input...thanks!

i faced the same problem, i had rooted my phone, and changed my build.prop, when i tried to install the OTA update, it failed
but i managed to get the update by doing the follwing:
1- download the OTA update but don't reboot your phone
2- search in your SD card for the update.zip file (located on a folder but i forget the name)
3- open the update.zip and edit the update script deleting the assert line(s) that make it fail
4- reboot into recovery and flash the update.zip file
i hope it will work for you

Today i have found out that if you put a magnet near the upper third of the left side of your Lenovo S920 it will lock/unlock
i know this has been on the iPad and other phones for a while now, but it is not announced in the Lenovo S920 specs!
and it is a cool thing to have a flip cover, attach a magnet just the correct place, and viola! you have a smart flip cover

I tried doing that, to no avail When I try to manually add those apk's I get the same error message, which is the assert thingy failed. Basically I took out Chrome, the Tutorial, and LeCalendar.
What am I missing here?

the assert error you are getting is caused by the MD5 check some, since you have changed/deleted those files the MD5 for them is changed, and the update script in the OTA file will check that MD5 and match it to the original.
that what is causing the update to fail.
the solution is to extract the update script form the update.zip (open it using winrar or something) go to "\META-INF\com\google\android" search for the "updater-script" extract it, then open it in any text editor and remove the line(s) that is asserting the files you have deleted.
example:
assert(apply_patch_check("/system/app/LenovoClock.apk", "f7c75be4512cb791baa754f17df896205f27cb53", "1cdf8cd84122d93668d77d14fb5692474ff301a9"));
this line asserts that the "LenovoClock.apk" exists, and it has the correct MD5
remove similar lines for apk(s) you have deleted.
after that, put the "updater-script" again in the "update.zip" file and copy it back to your SD card, reboot into CWM recovery, turn off assertion, and flash "update.zip" by choosing flash zip file form sd card
i hope it will work for you

hey sorry for the late reply; been extremely busy and I just found the time to carry out your instructions earlier.
Unfortunately it didn't work... When I tried to update, it tries to, then it closes with just one word "ERROR".
I updated the 2 updater-script files as you instructed (one of them was the updater then the other had a (~) sign after the word updater).
Should I have just updated one?

[Q] Bricked Galaxy S3 with no backup

I rooted my S3, changed one file, and am now stuck in the startup screen. I've looked on the forums but I'd like to confirm what my recovery options are.
(1) Since I have no backup*, can I recover from a factory recovery for my model and still keep some of my data, apps and customizations?
It's a N American SIII (Rogers Wireless Samsung SGH-I747M). I can boot successfully into both Odin and CWM Recovery (Clockwork 5.5). BusyBox installed. I do not have a functioning MicroSD.
*I only did one thing:
renamed framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk2 to test permissions. Errors and crash ensued, then I restarted and here I am.
That apk file is part of a fix which is circulating that corrects a bug in the North American models' battery reporting, which requires replacing the apk with a slightly modified version. I thought trying a file rename was a safe small test, prior to backing up. The name "framework" should have tipped me off probably.
(2) Is factory recovery my best option? I would love to get in and just name the file back. But I can't get in.
(3) Was some automatic backup made that I overlooked? Rooting and the learning curve took so many steps I can't remember myself.
(4) Can I just restore the /system directory perhaps?
Yep, relative noob here. Hope my question is placed correctly and I haven't missed another post with the answers I need, if not pls advise.
Copied question to a better thread
It's now in the Android Q&A, see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28256764
Just getting used to the forum here.
NEVER FEAR find a ROM that you want to install and flash it using Odin or copy it to SD card and flash using clockwork mod And no there is no secret backup BTW once you get your phone working again make a backup then Go to where its stored And label it ALWAYS backup as soon as you root your phone
If you can manage, push a similar framework (taken from someone else) using adb...
Typed using a small touchscreen
How?

You can flash a ROM using Clockwork instead of Odin? I totally missed that memo! Tips please
I found that Clockwork required the file to be in the internal SD folder -- I couldn't access the External SD card under any circumstance. There was no way to get a file to the internal file system without a functioning ROM. This is still confusing me. Maybe I had the wrong version of Clockwork or was doing it wrong. Not for lack of trying.

custom ROM ICS 4.0.3 by cybermaus on Lenovo A750

Hi,
the fprum rules are forcing me to open a separate topic about my Lenovo A750 as I'm not allowed to post reply in "dev topics". I do not understand how users with less than 10 post can reply in that topic yet I cannot
anyway.
I try to install A750_S306_120530_cybermaus_ICS_V1. The howto is saying I should put the zip on SD card and boot in CWRM:
- Put S306 V1 zip file on SD card (do not unzip)
- Also put S306 V1.3 zip file on the SD card (do not unzip)
- Boot into Recovery
- First apply V1, then apply V1.3
- Potentially, clear userdata and cache, especially if you come from any S14x GB
- Reboot, and wait for it to complete.
Click to collapse
The problem is, I cannot access the external SD card. Message is "cannot mount /sd-ext" [NB A750 has one card embedded and another "external"].
I put the archives [ICS v1 and the patc, v1.3] on internal SD and was able to navigate and launch those. however, instructions said to reboot and wait to complete.
I waited for 30 mins -- nothing completed (
Please advice.
Hoping that someone will care to share,
Thanks in advance.
Robert
What ROM do you have installed currently? You do need to install V0 using flash method first, so that you have a proper recovery.
If you do already indeed have the recovery partition, and that is not mounting the SD card, then I am not sure, I did not pack/unpack the recovery, so I am not sure whats in there and how they are related.
But I do suspect that since the recovery is working for others, and since the recovery is pretty much self contained (iow, not influenced by my ROM), that you may have a problem with your SD card or slot itself.

I'm on a750_s148_120428_cybermaus_v1.
I did not flashed [yet] a750_s305_120514_cybermaus_ics_v0.
I also tried to make a backup from CWRM at it didnt work: same message, cannot mount.
Flashing now v0...
Done!
I'm on ICS 4.0.3.
Thanks!
Previous attempt was to go apply directly the updates, without flashing v0
issue with 3g
I just ran into the following issue.
The data conn on WCDMA slot is not working. Voice is ok. It is not an issue w/ provider as I checked with another phone.
That happened twice and I quick-fixed it by restore to defaults.
I'm trying to see maybe some of my apps are messing the data conn up? and again, I'm using 'normal' apps such as ES file explorer&task manager, a free calendar, a clock widget, titanium.
ICS 4.0.4
Hi,
I'm also not allowed to post in the main A750 thread (cybermause's).
I'm currently on A750_S306_120530_cybermaus_ICS_V1.
i tried Apkhot_lenovo750_4.0.4_0623_YS_V3_Smilevvv and Apkhot_lenovo750_4.0.4_0707_Smilevvv, both were very fast and i liked '0707' for it's
lock screen and the launcher.
But the problem was i couldn't sign-in to any google app (google play, gmail, youtube.....). i installed those apps from the sd card, some didn't start
and for the other's i couldn't sign-in.
i tried to use the cybermause v1.2 patch, but at the end i got back to 4.0.3

I can't find an .android_secure folder anywhere on my SD card.
Just checked and the checksum is correct:
MD5 (/Users/Hate/Downloads/Echoe Illusion Rom v6_28Oct.zip) = 0fba4efafe95457a934cb50946bf552e
Same one as listed at http://d-h.st/AX5 the download link.
Prehaps the upload is corrupt?
Can anyone provide me with an alternative link? I don't want the themed version.
I'm trying downloading it with a different browser however I really cant see chrome being any problem at all?
Please someone help, I'm stuck with an expensive brick currently Well semi-brick :'(
I'd ideally like to fix it as its my only alarm clock!
Thanks
Hmmmmmm.
Just downloaded the themed version,
Wiped everything as instucted ( noticed it said Formatting external_sd/.android_secure despite me checking many time before and its not there, not even a hidden file or folder )
Getting the exact same error Can't open... bad...Can anyone help this is driving me crazy!
All the md5 hashes match
Thanks

Did flashed the ROM like described above?
Did you use the inbuilt Faux Kernel?
Have you flashed the Modem like described in Point #18 ?
What is your Bootloader (old or new (with or without Knox)?
This works flawless! Many people have confirmed! :good:
This flashing method is beyond any doubt, it MUST work if you dont have made thinks wrong!

Never mind, this folder is written from the System itself (after first booting up).

Flash a stock ROM with Odin first and then go ahead!
For new Bootloader you have to flash stock .tar.md5 XXUEMJ5 Firmware with ODIN.
For old Bootloader you have to fllash stock .tar.md5 XXUEMGA Firmware with ODIN.
Flash stock ROM with my Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46399517#post46399517
So you should have a starting point to continue with the ECHOE ROM Flashing guide!

Did you ever flashed a ROM higher than MGA or MH1 you have the NEW Bootloader!
Flash it like I described in my Best ROM Flashing Guide (in my Sig)!
Then continue with this ECHOE ROM Flashing Guide!
Hi, really like your threads and just discovered this one.
I have a android.secure folder on my external sd card but am wondering, why I can't just delete that one, boot into recovery, wipe and flash the new ROM. In your steps you recommend to take out the card, put it into a card reader, delete the folder, put ROM on external sd card, put card in phone and boot into recovery. Wouldn't that be the same as if I delete it on my phone with a file Explorer and booting into recovery?
Or is this folder recreated while shutting the phone down?
Also, could you explain a bit why this particular folder can make problems?
Thanks in advance!!

I know mate!
I couldn´t delete the .android.secure folder from phone within! I think its used from System and should not be deleted while the system is runnig.
I don´t know what errors/problems this folder could make, I always removed it first.
I think friedrich420 has written that it should be deleted because of making problems when switching from stock ROM to e.g. ECHOE ROM!
SLIM - Yes, Full - No
Hi!
Huge Fan of Echoe Rom. I have a very weird issue with the echoe celstial voices goint to echoe illusion v7. Flashed celestial voices and worked like a charm. Then Illusion V6 Full came up. So downloaded and flashed it. Again worked like a charm. Then I tried the slim version and from there, something weird happened. echoe illusion v6 slim with no kitchen worked out fine, but game me random resets and freeze. So i tried goin back to full. But I cant flash the full version. But can go back to slim without a problem. tried it 20 times now but still getting stucked at boot logo. then v7 came out and still same results.
Cant post to echoerom thread directly due to restrictions. Please advice as to what should i do. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, me with another question regarding external sd + android_secure.folder:
I should take out the external sd, delete the folder and put the ROM on the external sd card. Now when i boot right into revovery will the folder be created again? Cause then it would make more sense to leave external sd card out and put the ROM on internal sd card and flash from there.
As I usually do a fullwipe, including formating internal sd card the ROM would be formated as well. So the ROM needs to be on the external sd card, but then again the android_secure folder might be created while booting up in recovery...i hope you understand my dilemma. :silly:

I had this weird issue that after flashing Echoe ROM Slim Version 3-6 that while booting up for the first time after flashing 4 apps where installed which where totally bloat stuff (such as "mytaxi" and some other shi*t)
I have a "free" Phone, so i always wondered what is happening as this couldn´t come from any "carrier" service. I also formated my external sd card but the problem was still there when i installed Slim V6.
With your methoed this time NO bloat App was installed after the reboot!

Urgent help require for recovering data

Hi there,
Its been a long time using the Note 3 since 2013. It had many issue but still carried on. But few days back when weak up in the morning saw the phone was off, though it was in charge full night. When turned it on it stuck in the Samsung glowing logo and nothing after that, it keep showing the same logo until it power is gone. Don’t know what happened that night, it was installing an update by itself or not.
Then google it and no steps helps, used odin and reflash with latest firmware from sammobile but that too didn’t help. I’ve lots of data in internal storage including sms and contacts and pictures. I’ve no issue to throwing off the phone but I cant lost all data in it, it will be a huge loss as just became a father and lots of pics on my new born baby, so you can understand the value.
Can anyone suggest how can I recover the data? Check the attachment for its current state. Thanks in advance.

This is a bit long. I copied the explanation of PIT online.
PIT stands for Partition Information Table (PIT) and as the name suggests these are files which contain partition tables for your Samsung Galaxy Android phones. The PIT file contains all the relevant information for each required partition such as Partition Name, Block Size, Block Count, and other technical information. Every device has different PIT file associated with its stock firmware. Hence a correct PIT file is needed in order to properly flash the stock firmware on your device. Also, if there are two models of a device, say 32 GB and 64 GB, then both will have a different PIT file and you cannot use the PIT of the former with the later or vice-versa.
What does the PIT file do?
ROM (Read Only Memory) is similar to a hard disk on a PC where the information is kept permanently unless changed by the user. PIT file will re-partition the ROM of your device...
---------- Post added at 12:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:49 PM ----------
So what's your phone's model number? Is it SM-N900? And does it have 32GB internal storage?

If you want to cpy Data from your internal storage try tihis way
1 install official TWRP recovery
2 Reboot into recovery
3 connect your mobile to Pc annd then you can copy data from your internal storage
Hope it help you ?
you can try this method.
1.Root your phone and install twrp recovery.
2.mound and SDCard and reboot into recovery and from file manager in recovery copy all data from internal storage to SDCard by doing this your data will be safe .after that try to flash anr other rom like Resurrection Remix Or lineage to repair your phone.
Hi, if you flashed (completely) an update not compatible you lost your data, your contacts it`s recommendable to synchronise with Google if worst happen, if your data didn`t go away you can try to recover like others users recommended, first root device with this file https://download.chainfire.eu/353/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.zip, install official TWRP from Google Play and download from it correct version, go to recovery from same app and transfer to pc all that you can.
Sometime ago I tried to flash a rom with odin and result was the same, and issue was just for flashing without connection to internet, maybe help

Well, we need to make things clear to try to solve this;
Assuming that you;
- Flashed correct firmware and for some reason process interrupt or apparently reached the end but device don´t boot (bad flashing)
- You took a backup from CWM nor TWRP (then you have a backup of system, data, boot, maybe recovery and probably cache. Then you can try the next:
- Put your backup ever in sdcard
- Flash some custom rom based on stock (zip format) with CWM (maybe necessary to do wipes to boot but probably you lost your data from device flashing before, but you have it in your backup)
- Now select an advanced restore, just restore data (if same native app of mms and notes are installed they took data again), reboot now and look, probably will be necessary restore also cache but let it just if needed)
- If for some reason don´t boot probably your partitions are corrupted but you can try first this. I hope help you and tell us how you go

If device don`t power on you need first of all flash correct firmware to repair partitions, you need to go step by step.
- Flash by odin, good level battery charged, access to internet, depending capacity of your pc don´t use many resources meanwhile flashing, if sucess reboot device completely now power off, put it in download mode
- Now, step 2 you need to root with this file, download it https://download.chainfire.eu/353/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900.zip extract from zip and you have this file in .tar.md5, open odin, go to AP box, search file and flash it (download mode), this file will root device and will install TWRP (is needed to inject some scripts from supersu)
- how your backup is in CWM you need to go now to TWRP and flash CWM.img file via recovery.
- reboot in CWM and select advanced option to restore, just restore DATA, not other partitions, this overwrite your data app for your data backup, and without doing wipes try to boot. maybe system be unstable but you need now just recover some data, when you do that recommend a flash a custom rom or at least keeping root to take a backup with titanium periodically
Hi All, So with the rooted device I've managed to restore all data except call log, which I can ignore. But now the issue is, the system showing the software is not official and not supporting software upgrade and showing the system is custom. Now what to do, where can I get the exact firmware? thanks

Kiwami Samurai FTU152D stock Lollipop 5.1, Root and Xposed, Help and Tips

This post is to help users who have accidentally or on purpose tried to upgrade to Android 6.0 on their Kiwami Samurai FTU152D using software for FTJ152D (Japanese version of phone), and to help with root and installing Xposed on your phone. There is a risk of getting the phone stuck on boot screen if a user uses certain versions of SuperSU. If you searched the net and found this thread, and are still on Stock Rom for your FTU152D, Do not Upgrade until you have read this thread. Upgrading by flashing a rom using SP Flash Tool you risk losing your IMEI information in the phone forever. I am going to write this thread with an assumption that reader has upgraded the software in their phone using the Japanese Firmware. You can read through and use this thread based on your situation and if confused, better to ask questions on the thread than trying something on your own. I do not take any responsibility if you brick or hard brick your phone, so please be careful and do not just randomly flash things without full understanding, confused? ask questions.
Note #1: First and Foremost, Be careful to not flash a preloader.bin file in your phone from other phone models. You run the risk of permanently bricking your phone. Use the correct preloader made for your phone.
Note#2: Make at least a 5 GB backup dump of your phone using SP Flash Tool 'Read Back' tab before you attempt root or other customizations on your phone. This can be done using the scatter file from stock rom of FTJ152D Android 6.0 available at needrom website at:
https://www.needrom.com/download/freetel-samurai-kiwami-ftj152d/
You will need to input scatter file in the download tab before SP Flash tool will allow you to do a 'Read Back' dump of your phone. Be very careful when attempting this and do not accidently download (the whole reason of this thread and my troubles is because I did exactly that). In 'Read Back' tab, you can click on 'Add', name the raw dump, and add the starting address (that will be 0 of course) and make the length equivalent of at least 5 gigabytes, make sure that you have selected the 'EMCC_USER' as your region. Use 'Add' to add another 'Read Back', this time for preloader (in boot_1 region). You can open the scatter.txt file from the rom you downloaded earlier to see how long this 'Read Back' needs to be. Next, click on 'Read Back' to start the backup dump, power off and connect your phone via usb to the computer. (You may need the VCOM drivers, if the phone is not detected by SP Flash Tool or you keep getting errors, search for the driver online or download it from the needrom website, same page where the rom is (link above). Keep these two dump files safe as these are effectively your backup in case you mess up your phone.
ROOT and Xposed:
If on lollipop there are at least couple of options to root using kingroot (personally dislike) and others. If on Marshmallow, you can use my posts in this thread to root using Magisk:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/how-to-root-freetel-kiwami-samurai-t3610015
Recover from Japanese firmware and/or Going back to Lollipop:
In case you have flashed the Japanese firmware and now have problems using the phone and want to go back to FTU152D stock rom (Android 5.1) with correct baseband, use the attached file (mega link below) with SP Flash Tool. First, find an nvram.bin file online compatible for mtk6795 chipset or look at this page as you can download a nvram.bin from there:
https://afterroot.wordpress.com/2015/07/22/mtk-restore-nvram-bin/
***Very Important Note*** Nvram.bin file as the one on the above website will fix your phone, especially the baseband (all the better if you made a backup using the method mentioned in Note#2 above, you can use the scatter file and hex editor (such as HxN from download.cnet.com) to cut out the nvram.bin and secro.img (need both to restore imei and baseband) partition file from the raw dump) but the IMEI numbers will be specific to the nvram.bin file you use (and this is why i didn't provide my backup nvram file, but i did provide secro.img as it contains baseband info), and using wrong imei number with your phone may not be legal. If you use the file from the above website, your IMEI numbers will be specific to that file and you MUST change your IMEI numbers to your original numbers using a number of apps or other methods available online, just search the web.
You should unzip the rom zip from this link:

that I put together by dicing raw dump of my phone using SP Flash Tool and putting together some of the files from the MM folder. Some of these files may not be needed for a successful installation but i just wanted to be sure because I had issue with some folders not being visible in the phone's internal memory. Make sure you insert an nvram.bin file in the rom folder before proceeding otherwise your phone sims will be greyed out, choose the scatter file in the folder with SP Flash Tool download tab, and use 'format all + download' option in download tab, click on 'Download', power off the phone and attach to PC via USB cable. Once download is done, power up your phone and you are done. Now you can root and install xposed, and fix your IMEI numbers if they are wrong using the tips and link provided above if like.
I am trying to get a custom recovery to work with this phone but so far because there is no touch in recovery mode, TWRP doesn't work. If anyone have been able to install or use custom recovery, please share your experience and help out others. Thanks.
If anyone have internal phone storage not showing DCIM, Alarm, Ringtones, and other folders, make sure you don't have an SD card in the phone, do full factory reset after flashing, go to storage settings and make sure the internal phone storage is selected for write to memory, then insert SD card in the phone. That fixed this issue for me. It is just how this phone is setup that you have to select internal phone storage or external sd card for where the stuff gets stored.
Another fix that worked for me was to remove SD card from phone, format whole flash except bootloader in format tab first, flash all files except userdata.img and cache.img in download mode, and then make sure you go directly to stock recovery at first power on (hold volume up while powering up the phone), wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset, and then allowing the phone to boot up the first time.
Another tip for other Kiwami Samurai users i wanted to share is that both Freetel roms (5.1 & 6.0) come pre-installed on either variant of phone with 3 potential malware or PUPs that i just detected using Malwarebytes (see screenshot). I wouldn't have expected this from a Japanese smartphone manufacturer. These are installed as system apps and require root and an app like Titanium Backup to freeze and/or remove these. 'Debloater' app by Gatesjunior on xda forums can also remove these.
Thank you for the thread.
I have this phone, the US version FTU152D.
From what I can find on XDA and other places. there is no update to Marshmellow available for the US version. Can you confirm?
I see your methods above. I am thinking of flashing stock ROM to the phone to clean up some issues. Think of it as a clean install.
Thank you,
