Hey, I don't know how to force to charge tablet in the car.
I use 2.1 amper car charger. After I plugged it to the tablet I got either red cross or just info that tab has been connected.
I know trick to mount USB partially, sometimes it works and there is no red cross, however I noticed in Battery Monitor Pro:

You see tab's been plugged, it shows "USB connected" and "Discharging" however power depreciation is still high.
When there is no red cross (I mount USB stick partially). Then charge rate is very low - 0.5-0.6 ampers instead of 2.1.
Charger is working good, I tested it.
How to force it to be charged at full rate? I worry about GPS power consumption - Sygic+Locus Pro = more than 1 amper depreciation, so this is matter of time till tablet will go off. The worst scenario... during road trip.
You need something like this with 2.1 amp

Or this Belkin one

Or the oem Samsung for the galaxy tab, which should also Work with tab 2

Thx, but are you sure that Dual USB charger will give me full 2.1 amper (or min 1A)? I have 2.1 A charger but it gives only about 500-600 mA. I've heard due to USB cable pins made for Apple products (even if it is universal one).

I just played around with making a wireless charger. It is 1 amp and it will charge the 7" tab2. My 850 mah wall charger will charge it as we'll. both show an x over the battery but they charge. The secret is the data wires. They need to be connected together. I modified a cable for a car one time to do this, but many car chargers today do it for you.
The tab 2 will charge off less as it can charge off a pc USB port at only 500mah, so it is not the amps.
Possible solution for chargeing issue

Pardon me but but you have a Samsung Galaxy tab 7 plus looking at your other posts. My P6200 only charges from 0.9A lower limit to 2.02A upper limit at 5vDC if your amps go lower or higher you get that red cross
I get best results at 2.0Amp charge and no more. otherwise battery only takes in 0.5 to 0.6A which I see you observed the same with battery pro I did it with a external power supply that reads drawn current
P.S I know I am late hope it helps somebody else

Anyone use the external battery from proporta (turbo charger 5000)?
What it's your opinion, it's worth it?
How many REAL charges can be performed for DHD, and how long it last?
here it's the link

Thank you!
Don't know about that one, but this one is 40% cheaper:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Trent-Dual-port-IMP50D-Blackberry/dp/B004AM1OK4/ref=pd_cp_ce_1
I bought it a month ago, same storage capacity as the one you're looking at, comes with USB cable and 2 adaptors (mini & micro usb) which is just enough to charge the pack and your phone respectively. Or a phone with a mini usb port...
I haven't done any serious benchmarking, but I'd estimate about 3 "full" charges. The pack itself does take some time to charge up, since it's filling up 500mah and I do it via the PC usb port, so a direct wall charge would probably be faster.
I use it as a top up, so normally I plug it the phone in for an hour or so, take it to 80% charge. Haven't done any 0-100 trials
There are a couple more vendors on Amazon, check them out. I have noticed that the price of this model varies over time: I bought it at 22.95GBP, then saw it at 29.95, and now it's 25...
thank you for your reply, do you think the charger of DHD will charge it faster?
I am using the Gum Pro from justmobile and I'm really satisfied. 4400mAh capacity, 1000mA output... charging way faster than standard charger. Lasts for 3-4 charges...

I would think so. I'm not sure about the output the battery pack receives from my USB port (I have 2 ports on the laptop, and one is connected to a hub with 10 outputs of which 5 are normally in use, which is where the pack is recharged from) - but the wall chargers are normally faster in my experience.
Anyway, a slower charge is always recommended, as it's said that the battery performs better with slow chargers, and I can tell you it's truth, I now onlye charge the phone via USB and seems to have a better battery life(not much better, but still, bit better)
well, I have buy the one I posted and I charged with htc wall charger (it will charge my phone 3 times), that's good but today when I try to charge it again it's say that it's empty. I plug it in charger and in 5 min it's full. (it's take around 2 hour to full charge). when I plug my phone back on - to charge it - it's working normal.... it's that ok or it's going to final/death
I mean it needs a inpulse to go back to normal
It's this happend for you guys?
It sounds like it isn't working properly, though I'm sure you noticed .
Proporta offer a no-hassle returns policy, though you will probably have to pay the postage - so you could request a replacement, or just get you money back & get yourself another brand.
We offer a super high capacity USB battery @ 9600mAh for roughly 39 Euro / USD 55 shipped to any country. The down side is having a single USB port output only comparing to Proporta's dual output.

Wow... that looks physically identical (but in white) to the New Trent 5000mah casing. Even the charge/discharge indicators and button.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Trent-Dual-port-IMP50D-Blackberry/dp/B004AM1OK4/ref=pd_cp_ce_1
Er... can you fit double the capacity into the same volume? What are its dimensions?
sorry for bad pic but here you can have an ideea about the size.
got another clone of the new trent one, tecknet iEP380 5000mAh, about £23 via amazon
note these all charge via the mini usb conector , not the micro charger one that the desire HD uses,
its about the size of the phone again, so not an everyday item to carry around, but when your away from a power source for a day or two it does the job well.
When I'm using google navigation in the car and the screen is inevitably on full brightness I expect the battery to drain really quick. So I plug in the car charger expecting all to be fine - wrong! The battery still goes down - just not as quickly.
If I am on the road for about 6 hours the battery will go flat. My car charger is 800mA so it should be no problem.
Is it just mine?
My Epic was the same way under heavy load.

Never had that problem with my Nexus One and would be surprised if the Nexus S exhibited that behavior. But my Nexus One dock came with a 1000mA charger.

It's pulling more than the charger can keep up with. A beefy charger like ones for the ipad might help but unknown how much. Griffin makes some that can output over two amps. Look at best buy. Make sure you check the output ratings. Some might be more than others. You will have to use a usb data cable as the cord because the one I'm talking about has standard usb female on the other end of the adapter. Griffin power jolt.

This particular one has led that glows red when full charging and green when trickle. There's different models.
The Nexus S isn't even close to how bad the Epic was. A road trip with Google navigation on, and the screen low would eat at the battery. Heavy use in general would eat at the battery. All while the screen brightness was at like 15%. I felt like the phone was always in a constant state of charging, except overnight when I slept.
Nexus S isnt even close to that bad. I wouldn't even define it as bad at all. Just normal. I would just avoid maxing out the screen brightness. 25% is normally enough in 80% of your situations.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I use a 1.2A charger in the car and also have this problem. Only with Navigation + max brightness. If I drop the brightness (at night) I can stay ahead of the drain.
This was also an issue with my Vibrant so I was not surprised to see it on the NS as well.
I read in one of the posts about an app called battery monitor widget. It has been a helpful tool to monitor the charge discharge rates. I highly recommend it. You know when the phone is truly idling and when something is pulling down on the battery even when you're just sitting at the home screen doing nothing.
I haven't found a useful essential app for a long time until I stumbled across this.
I've had the same problem on the stock charger O.O! You would think that the one that came with the phone would be able to handle it running as a wifi hotspot but it doesn't. My old phone, an HTC Desire, never had a problem keeping up.
Yeah Samsung phones takes too long to charged I though my evo was bad cause I came from an ip
hone, which charges in an hour (80%) and now battery kills me in this phones

Sounds like the crappy 3G/4G/wifi is the culprit. I believe when they fix the signal issues battery drain will be reduced.
P.S. Come on Google... WTF!
I noticed the USB connection will not keep up, but the AC connection will. I know that doesn't help in the car, just an observation.

A lot of car chargers output like ac chargers..like what came with my car dock.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Guys, make sure it's charging in AC mode so charging can keep up with the discharge rate. You can see whether it's in USB charging mode or AC in About phone > Status. If your phone is in USB charging mode while plugged into the car charger, it means the D+/D- pins of the charger cable is not shorted.
You have several choices:
1) Open up the charger and find the USB wire solder point, short D+/D- (usually the middle two of the four pins) with a soldering iron.
2) Skin the USB cable/wire, cut the D+/D- wire (hopefully you know which two), and short the openings.
3) Buy a male and a female USB connector, solder the two together, but short D+/D- on each side.
I have had about 5-6 of these.. every one I get my hands on is junk. When using the GPS, with the phone pluged in (non stock cable) I still end up killing my battery dead. The second it comes off the charger is turns off.
Can anyone point me in the direction of one that charges correctly?
Thx in advance!
I use my wife's from Verizon and it seems to work ok. It has a USB port so I can use my normal, thick data cord. You're probably running into ones where the cord is too thin to give proper charge. This one works great with the data cord.
I have the Samsung car dock. It seems to do fine with just GPS. I don't think the Epic can draw enough current to maintain it's charge if you're using any other features. If I'm running GPS + Streaming Music, it will discharge eventually and become very hot.
You need
1. a reasonable quality USB charging cable so that the Epic will draw the maximum current, or a power adapter that grounds the data pins. If the epic thinks it's connected to a computer it won't draw the maximum current.
2. an adapter that will provide 600ma+. I used the one from Griffin until it broke* and I bought the Samsung cradle. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=usb+car+power+adapter&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=1150301903319147928&sa=X&ei=4h0ZTtSyL4aDgAeA7rH0Dw&ved=0CIUBEPMCMAE
Hope this helps.
*Griffin agreed to fix it, but it's been several weeks since I sent it in. I'm a little unhappy with them at the moment, but the adapter was fine until it broke, maybe you'll have better luck.

seems like a good price. i ordered 3 single usb 1 amp units for 1.99. I'll give feedback once there in my hands.
sounds weird but goto radioshack or wherever & get one for a palm pre it works great charges really fast to, try & get palm brand because thats what im usin
Not as strange as you might think. As the pre/pixi charger is 1amp allowing it to power the touchstone with enough current. Most
12v lighter plug USB adapters are .5amps.
Also the pre/pixi lighter plug charger requires the cable that comes with it. And although it is a micro usb the end that goes in the lighter plug is not standard its thinned and narrower.
+1 on the pre charger... been using one since I had the pre, and it is awesome. phone still discharges when streaming pandora and running GPS, but GPS by itself results in a very slow net charge on my drive to work.
We sell a case logic brand charger at work for 15 bucks that is rated at 800mA, used it a few times and know a few people that have one. I'm sure online price is cheaper.

ive never had that problem mine always charges no matter what
I get mine off of EBay. Just make sure its output is 1amp.
USB and DATA cable
That's because if you use a USB adapter and a DATA cable the phone only charges at half it's rating. This is because it thinks it's pulling the power from a computer USB port and it doesn't want to overload (and fry) the port.
I picked up one of these, opened it up and soldered the two middle USB pins together. Now it allows my phone to charge with a data cable at it's max rate.

there are pretty sweet power inverters that run 30ams, so you can plug in laptops and such. pretty compact, AND they come with 2 usb charging ports.
there under 50 bux.
I use a j-lo brand car charger. Its for a gps and charges @ 1000mah. I also have a power inverter, the cheap one from walmart with 2 ac outlets and 1 usb port. Both of these work very well.

So if anyone can recommend something that does work, please do let me know. Im trying to find something low profile instead of having to use a DC-> AC -> wall socket -> usb in the jeep. >_<
Here's UPDATE in case someone has the same issue with charging the 8.9 tab via usb.
With these steps followed, I was able to get USB charging from any usb socket. Not just wall.
I rooted my Galaxy 8.9 following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287205
And then, I flashed this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359068
After that, I flashed this Kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323957
And then, I enabled USB charging as described in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323957
And DONE. Now its charging from USB.
It charges slow but that's expected. If i want to charge faster, I use the wall socket.
You were very close to getting it correct with your first post. That car charger you have is plenty powerful at 2.1a (I'd actually recommend getting one that does both 1a & 2a to charge either a phone or tablet in the car). My understanding of the Galaxy Tab is that they won't charge correctly over USB. By default, they just behave as mass storage devices. If you want to get your Galaxy Tab to charge over USB, you'll need a special USB adapter that connects inline with your existing charging cable. This little gem was designed for the earlier generation of Galaxy Tab, but the charging issue is the same.
USB Data/Charging Extension Cable for Samsung P1000 - Black (found at DealExtreme dot com)
Or, you could buy this nifty external battery, which includes the required inline charging cable.
New Trent IMP99D (found at NewTrent dot com)
Obviously, you were able to get it to work by rooting, etc. But for those who may be interested in a vanilla solution, this may help. Also, sorry for not posting links, but I'm a noob poster, and the rules don't allow me. You should be able to find the products I mentioned above pretty easily though.

Bought a dual charger for the car, has 1 amp and 2.1 for devices like tables. When I plug the Tab Plus in the tablet gives me an X for charging and doesn't charge. Tried different cables. Any ideas??? GT 6210

So only Samsung OEM car and wall chargers work??? I even trid a lower amp charger in the house figuring it would just take longer to charger, and still get the X if it's not the Samsung wall charger.
2.1a is plenty to charge it, but as you said, only Samsung chargers will do it. It is highly annoying.

Interesting to note:
When the Tab/Tab+ is connected to an HDMI adapter (either dongle or stand version: I have both) the tab will draw power from ANY USB source and show it as charging. A generic 2.1 amp charger will add to the battery even while playing MAME on my HDTV using a BT PS3 controller while WIFI is enabled (a 500mA charger works too but cant keep up....in other words it will deplete your battery...just slower). The same generic charger will NOT charge my Tab+ when NOT connected to the HDTV/HDMI adapter.
It's charging, but it's only pulling 450mA. This is a safety measure to prevent pulling too much current from a computer USB port.
This is nuts. If it charges through an HDMI cable??It charges slowly through a computer??? I'm surprised nobody has come out with a "charge only" cable so it works generically. Obviously some of the pins can be left off or crossed to trick it.
I'd buy 3 and keep them all over the place!
I've seem them for Apple,I devices, even was shipped one by accident for my Ipod.
I'm writing CableJive! Maybe if they hear from enough of us they support out product. '[email protected]'
Eureka! I grabbed an old USB version 1 extension cable (female to Male) and plugged it on the end of my Tab sync power cable. Plugged it into Tab OEM wall charger, worked fine. Then I plugged it into a generic wall charger for phones (1amp) and IT IS CHARGING!
Still won't work on car adapter, tried 1 amp, 2.1amp, and 2.2 amp.
Ordered USB 2 extensions to test.
Have you made sure that the plug will charge something else? Make sure it will charge your phone or something. I know those dual micro-chargers have to be pushed with a lot more force than you would think. I would also check both ports on the dual charger. Usually only one of the ports will output 2.1 amps while the other only outputs 1 amp.
Quick semi-related charger question: are all Samsung Tab chargers the same? Or, at least, are they cross-compatible for charging?
I've got an imported tablet, and it's charging very slowly with a UK adaptor (which was supplied by the import company... had been expecting more, I have to say).
If I tool up and go shopping for a genuine Samsung Galaxy Tab charger, will any of them do, or do I need to be specific? Does anyone know?
i got one of these handy.

I second the adapter recommendation shown above. I just wish it had some way to tie it to the cable so it doesn't get misplaced. They're pretty cheap, though, so I bought a couple extra.
