Getting back 8.6.5.21 after root attempt

Is it possible to get my hands on a stock 8.6.5.21 after trying to root with Razorclaw? This root involved using a 8.6.6.19 fw, but not it's slow as... :S
I'd rather not lose my data, if possible.

Hey if your ClockworkMod is working fine then download the 8.6.5.21 from the main Asus website nd put it on your external sd and go into clockwork recovery then go into install zip and install it

I had a similiar question, are the updates available from the ASUS website full ROM's or incrimental updates to the prevoiusly released FOTA versions?
Can they all be flashed via CWM to over-write an existing ROM? Regardless of the current version of the firmware on the phone(assuming a data/cache wipe to be safe)?
Do they overwrite the recovery partition or do you need a copy of the asus recovery to flash back to stock recovery?

There is an app called RecoveryInstaller.apk ~~ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180 ... IF YOU ARE ROOTED, then you can use this app and it'll install Clockworkmod for you.

The ASUS website ROM's are full ROM's. You can flash the stock ROM with the clockworkmod, however you won't be able to update unless you flash back to stock Clockwork. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947 click that link to download the stock clockwork.

Yep i had already grabbed that recovery file, my biggest problem is that i have a B40 that nachoroot doesn't work on and now my USB doesn't work properly so if i **** something up i have no recourse to fix anything via nvflash or adb.

Can't load recovery

Hello everyone,
My problem is this: I wanted to install a CM10 nightly on the device, so I root using the DebugfsRoot method, install rom manager, flash a recovery, try to install a ROM and it did not work. Rebooting into recovery got me the red triangle, but using the volume buttons allowed me to get in (only it did not have the option to install updates or anything. I think it was just he mounting and partition options)
Since I did not unlock the device before doing this, I chose to do so using ASUS's unlock utility. Once done, I tried booting into recovery, but the device would be stuck at "booting recovery kernel image" and won't budge. I tried flashing different version of CW but it did not seem to work.
Finally, for some reason, I chose the "wipe data" option from the bootloader and the device was stuck, again, at "booting recovery kernel image", only this time I can't boot into a ROM nor can I boot back into bootloader.
What happens when I boot using power and volume down is this:-
The device is Unlocked
Android cardhu-user bootloader <2.10 e> released by "US_epad-9.4.5.26-20120720" A03
Checking for android ota recovery
Booting recovery kernel image
and then everything's stuck.
Booting normally makes the device stop at "the device is unlocked" message because, I assume, there is no ROM flashed into the device.

It's not just that I can't get the unit to go into recovery, It's that I can't even get to fastboot (it tries to go into recovery every time I try to get into fastboot)

I believe your device is bricked. Using a wrong version of custom recovery may caused this. I haven't seen anyone able to fix the issue that you having right now, the only thing is to send out to Asus for repair.

So, if I get it repaired/replaced, what version of CW recovery should I get? It seems that there is not, yet, a version for the Infinity tab. I really want to get a custom ROM because the stuff ASUS has slapped on their version of Android gets under my skin.

The Team Win TWRP version 2.3.1.0 works really well. It's a touch recovery and very easy to use and full featured.

One very last question:-
Would it work if I get the CM10 nightly for the TF300T installed on a TF700T (since it's practically the same device with a different screen)? If not, is there a ROM that's pure JB without ASUS's stuff installed one it?

I would NOT recommend you do so with tf300 on tf700. There is no pure stock debloated version for JB, however, if you want to stay as close as stock and stable I would recommend "Cleanrom for JB". This rom doesn't have Asus bloatware and a few performance tweaks make it very good.

So I got it replaced (Best Buy swapped it for a new one) and everything's fine. I even installed Clean ROM and it's good. Problem is that the left speaker is not working and I need to flash the stock ROM to make sure it's nothing caused by software, before I go back and re-return the unit. However, ASUS's firmware is not longer wanting to flash. It gives me the "failed" message in TWR's recovery (no backup because my internal memory was wiped when installing ASUS's JB update :/)
EDIT: Never mind. I thought the holes at the bottom, on either side of the USP port, were the speakers. Turns out I was not thinking straight. Still, I'd like to know if anyone has an idea as to why the ASUS firmware is not wanting to install.

You can't install the ASUS firmware through custom recovery. It has to be stock. I believe there are signature checks that prevent it from installing otherwise.

You know, I unzipped the file the first time I installed it to get Clean ROM to flash, I had the unzipped folder there yet I managed to forget to use the unzipped file. /InfiniteFacePalm

[Q] Bootloop after flashing TWRP. Please help.

I was on locked on stock OTA JB.
I unlocked a few days ago, then last night flashed TWRP. Created a nandroid, then rooted.
Today I've spent several hours downloading ROMs, doing Titanium backups, surfing forums, backing up my personal files etc. i.e. using my tablet normally without problems.
I decided it was time to flash a ROM so booted in TWRP to create a fresh nandroid. Then when it finished I rebooted the system with the plan to copy the nandroid to my pc.
The tablet booted, but then after 30s or so rebooted. It's now stuck in this boot loop. So I tried a cold boot, and then restoring the latest nandroid and the problem persists. I'm currently trying to restore the pre root nandroid I made.
To recap - I am on stock OTA JB, with TWRP v2.3.1.0 recovery. Any thoughts?
Ok just to update - the pre root nandroid seems to be stable at the moment. So... What to do?
Should I reflash the recovery? Try a different recovery?
Any ideas why the nandroid would be borked when the system seemed stable when I created it?

No it doesn't, it just replaces stock recovery and allows you to gain root.
You could start your own thread. Or, you could read the thread in Android Development that gives clear instructions for noobs to gain root and install TWRP or CWM.

After you install TWRP, you just need to flash a root zip file with TWRP to gain root..

Since this thread got immediately hijacked i'm not sure but I'm going to assume this part of your post was aimed at me...
I wasn't trying to flash a ROM at all. I hadn't even got that far. All I'd done was flash the recovery, root it and then create a nandroid. It was creating the nandroid that seemed to trigger the boot loop, even though that makes zero sense.

can you get back into fastboot connected to your PC?
I'd try to re-flash TWRP. Also make sure you are using the JB version, not the ICS version.

I just unlocked and flashed TWRP on my tf300 (with the OTA JB update) this morning, and everything is working fine. I also flashed a root file without any issue.

I reflashed TWRP and re-rooted it seems to be OK.
Then I found I couldn't get any ROMs to work - they all froze at the boot screen. The solution to that problem lies in flashing the US update of JB rather that the WW. Now I'm running Hydro with Untermensch's kernel.
One thing I did notice with TWRP 2.3 is I get the error "can't mount /storage" in the log whenever I do anything. A bit of research suggests this might be an issue with TWRP 2.3, not present in 2.2. I wonder if that is what was causing the boot loop issue I had previously.
I can't seem to find a blob of 2.2 to downgrade to so I'm living with it for now and hope it's not going to cause problems down the line.

[Q] Question on ICS to JB update - Bootloader or Full?

Currently my TF300T is unlocked, rooted, ICS TWRP 2.3.1, nvflash blob files created (copies made and moved elsewhere) with AndroidRoot.mobi custom bootloader. I'm running stock ICS v9.4.3.17 and never ran any OTA's (one is downloaded/pending for install, but doesn't seem to do anything - likely because I'm unlocked?).
It's been recommended to just flash the JB bootloader & use a custom JB ROM rather than updating fully to JB (was said there are or had been, issues flashing the full JB from ASUS' website). With the nvflash blobs, I should be able to go back to ICS so I'd rather do a full update if possible. An earlier post [Q] Upgrade to JB bootloader from Unlocked ICS BL? asked the same but I need clarification on the answer (plus making sure - they were running ICS stock bootloader, not the custom from AndroidRoot like me):

Figuring my steps are correct, what version from ASUS is considered the 1st ROM? Currently only v10.4.2.17 and v10.4.2.18 are available. Also wondering why the need to flash an earlier version of JB and then the most current? And lastly, have others in same situation done this successfully or encountered any issues I should be aware of?

I did this a short time ago to go from BB6 on ICS bootloaded to BB6 on JB. All I did was dropped back to stock ICS, upgraded TWRP, then drop the unzipped zip of the latest ASUS release. This got me stock JB on JB bootloaded. I then flashed the next BB6 version and went on my way.
The only painful part was that the post called for moving the blob to a specific folder and creating a command file. None of that worked for me. But leaving the unzipped zip file in the root of the SD card and rebooting worked flawlessly.

Thanks! So you were going from another set of instructions but ended up just flashed twrp-jb and installed the unzipped zip of Asus JB release via TWRP (I left out the revert to ICS part since I'm already there)? And do you have nvflash installed? No issue running the JB version of TWRP prior to upgrading to JB (had thought bootloader or ... would have an issue with it)? Would seem like order should be reversed, I may not be understanding it all fully!
Had come across various instructions but none seemed to fit being unlocked/rooted/nvflash/... and wasn't sure if would require different steps. Again thanks.

I think you're right... I was on BB6 w/ICS bootloader (NVflashed, though I don't think it matters) and had to roll back to ASUS ICS ROM first, then rooted, then upgraded to ASUS JB ROM, and then it goes blurry. Not sure if I upgraded TWRP or rooted stock JB at this point.
In any case, I followed the "update to JB" thread to a tee, and all went well except for the step regarding the actual JB update.

First I want to address your possible OTA. Processing requires stock recovery on your tablet. Having Twrp or CWM means the update will not process.
When you flash a complete stock rom from fastboot, Twrp, or CWM you are flashing stock recovery as it is included in the blob.
Most versions of Asus firmware can be found here! Don't forget to look at the second post as It includes the ICS stuff and older JB.
The first version of JB was to my knowledge JB 10.4.2.9.
Sorry, I forgot why flash first version of JB.
It has been said that is when your internal sdcard was repartitioned for JB.

Thanks for the info. To add to your one comment (for others that may come across this looking for add'l info), flashing a full stock rom will overwrite any custom recovery previously in place. TWRP (using the appropriate version for your firmware) or CWM will need to be reflashed again...
Checking, it does appear v10.4.2.9 is the first version of JB on the TF300T.
I've come across at least one or more posts/guides that mention ICS v9.4.3.30 should be installed before updating to JB - one being: [GUIDE]Upgrade your TF300t to Jellybean, recovery, root & remove bloatware[Noobproof]. I'm wondering if it's because that method updates to JB using the dlpkgfile (not sure what format it is)?
My take is doing the additional flash to v9.4.3.30 first can't hurt anything, but quite possibly unnecessary here? Any other thoughts or words of warnings from anyone? Thanks!

A while back I installed TWRP and Cromi version 3.4.1-10.4.4.25/US DEODEX. My tablet has gotten infuriatingly slow and I think its time to move onto a newer and better rom. I wanted to try out the 4.3 Cyanogen Rom, but the requirements are to be on the asus 4.2.2 bootloader. How can I go about updating the bootloader. Do I have to revert to stock first? What process should I follow? Thanks guys!

The safest method is to download the latest firmware from asus extract it and flash the .zip with trwp, from here it will overwrite twrp after you reboot so set up android 4.2 and then reboot go into fastboot and fastboot flash twrp 2.5 from there you can flash what ever 4.2 rom/kernel you desire

If you liked Cromi, you will love CROMi-X, the JB 4.2 based successor to Cromi roms.
Boot into TWRP and make a nandroid backup - just in case.
Backup your files, pics, videos to your PC or a SD card - just in case.
Go to the CROMi-X thread, download the 10.6.1.14.8 bootloader/TWRP 2.5 package, flash it and boot back into your old Cromi rom once.
Boot back into TWRP (which should be 2.5 at this point), choose 'Wipe', swipe to do a factory reset (highly recommended if you move from 4.1 to 4.2 since 4.2 file system is quite different from 4.1)
Flash CROMi-X 4.7 - enjoy!
You will probably find all your files, pictures etc on this clean installation anyway since a factory reset in TWRP leaves the data/media folder untouched, but backing them up is just good computing practice.

+1 this is the safest method, but once you have the latest Asus software installed use motochopper to root then use Goo Manager to install the latest twrp which is v2.6.0.0.

I do not see a reason to flash a stock rom. You loose your recovery, you loose root and have to start all over.
And I will stick with TWRP 2.5 for the time being. 2.6 has been OK for most users, but some had problems with it. And I don't take chances with my recovery - ever.

I was only helping the guy to upgrade to the new bootloader and at the same time as installing the latest Asus rom. Yes you will loose root and recovery but motochopper works so easy on a fresh install and recovery is really easy to install using Goo manager. I use this method every time an update is released and available to download from Asus support.
