Hi!
I'm a total forum noob and this is my first post here. I can usually find what I need via Google/thread search, but I haven't been able to find anything about this specific error. "Error: -1"
I recently installed an app call Tablet Remote and I think it may be the culprit, but the error occurs when it isn't running. I've attached a screen shot...I think...
It happens when I open apps, tabs in Chrome, or take a screen shot. HA.
It's also hard to do a Google search because Google detects the hyphen in -1 and subtracts results using that information. haha.
This is for an ASUS TF700t with keyboard doc. I have attached my system info as well.
Any help is super appreciated!
Thanks!

When I search from either the Google search widget or the HTC browser, instead of returning the results on the standard Google homepage, the results get returned as per the attachment.
Any ideas on how I can fix it? I know it is a trivial issue, but it is really annoying.
Thanks.
Never seen that before. Mine goes to the Google page search results.
Have you tried updating the Google Search app? It's in the Market.
Yep, I tried that with no joy.
I assume it's some kind of Vodafone addition in order to try to gather metrics on usage.
It's just really annoying and I'd very much like to go back to the proper results page...
I'm not sure I get what the problem is... The screenshot looks like the search results on my phone and pc browser.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Here is an example of the searches side by side.
As I say, it's a petty problem but very annoying.
re:Browser settings
Just open the browser, menu>more>settings> tick mobile view
Unfortunately that setting was already ticked.
I think that someone has created a custom search (Using this: http://www.google.com/cse/) and incorporated that instead. I assume it must be Vodafone.
I bought a Kindle Fire off Craigslist and got home and realized I had been had and was sold a demonstration model. I'm hoping by rooting the Kindle I can possibly reverse this. I followed all the instructions in death2all110's thread but the first step I can not perform because when I try to go into settings I get a message saying "demonstration device this feature is not available" This is the step that allows you to sideload. Is there another way that I can sideload? Even if I am able to sideload, do you think this will fix my problem? Please help.
Anybody able to help me out with this?
Should I be posting this somewhere else?
Perhaps you should try posting it on death2all110's thread.

I can't post there until I've had 10 post.
Some threads require you to have a certain minimum number of posts on xda before you can post. It is to keep the content of such threats free from spam.
As far as I know, side loading is the only way..... I wish you luck in your search though!
Yeah I think sideloading is the only way but is there another way to sideload?
Hmm, probably can force install it threw command prompt or try allowing unknown sources threw it.

Thanks. I'll try that.
Nothings working. Help! Help!
Techno,
The demo model will not let me go into settings and allow unknown apps to be installed. When I tap on that it says "demo device, demonstration only" Any other way?
I found something for you! I think it will work!
https://market.android.com/details?id=me.tennkia.apr
Just need to figure out how to get it on you fire, since it does not have market, I am working on that part.
Yeah if I can get that app on my Fire it may work.
Any other options for sideloading?
any success in removing the demo I am looking for detailed instructions and cant find it anywhere !!!!!!

I also have a Kindle Fire 8.9" Demo unit I just purchased but, have not received yet.
I am guessing that the unit will not allow ADB debugging to be turned on and is not turned on by default.
As a result, I am confused how any of the posts describing how to load TWRP and other reloads will work.
Thus, if ADB debug is not on and cannot be turned on, how is the Demo unit not a brick with a working display?
Does anyone have a description of how to load any working firmware on the DEMO units?
I am presuming that the fastboot -i 0x1949 routine will not work if ADB debug is not enabled?
If there is no hope for this Demo unit, I will list it on Ebay or similar.
Regards Jerry
I'm running chromi-x. My chrome browser's address bar search feature is somewhat hijacked...
<search term> goes to google/yahoo/bing (as set in settings) but it searches for: http://www.search-goal.com/?q=<search term>&affID=<somenumber>&babsrc=amob_ait
Has anyone seen an android browser hijack? Any idea how to fix? AVG A/V hasn't had any luck....
EDIT/PS: This is not happening in the default android browser.
Oops. Didn't read properly. Sorry. Forgot you said it searches the correct engine.
Edit: after a few Google searches, I can't find anything about search-goal.com, and the site has no information about itself either. My best guess is an app you installed is doing it. Uninstall anything you may have installed in the last week or so, and see if the problem goes away.
My suggestion would be to uninstall reinstall if that doesn't work, reflash the rom. I just went to search-goal.com on my pc and it looks dangerious. Im wasn't aware the homepage could be changed without user input, if you've installed any root access apps (essentially any apk files) id uninstall them.
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried uninstalling chrome. Got it uninstalled but had a heck of a time re-installing. It would NOT wipe /data/data/com.android.chrome. I finally removed that with TWRP. After reinstalling chrome it's still doing it. I've done an "install over" rom install (install, no data wipe) and it's still doing it. As much as I've tried to avoid it I think I'm going to have to wipe/reload/reinstall apps one by one. My last shot is I'm trying to find where the search engines are set up if it's a file somewhere to see if I can edit it.
Definitely malicious given the one time I tried to open it on a PC that I knew I could clean if I needed to it came up looking like a google clone.
Thankfully it's not actually loading that site so it's not doing anything but being annoying when I try to search.
same in my case -> solution
I had the same issue at my tf101 (at Team EOS rom) - and I was able to find the reason: in my case A.I. type keyboard app and the so called customized web search capabilities. When you remove this "feature" chrome search is back to normal.
Happy camper!

Many thanks be to timbetu! I shut off all my extra keyboards I was trying out. (FloatNSplit, GO, Hacker's, & Perfect Keyboard Free). That left the Android, ASUS, and Google voice typing turned on. Sure enough it went away! I was actively using FloatNSplit at the time. Will do some experimenting to find out if it was that one or another.
You have saved me from having to resetup my tablet!
:highfive:
EDIT: Also, dude, that's pretty awesome that your 1st post to XDA gets a thanks! Welcome to the forums!

I'm using floatnspin keyboard and that seems to be my issue. There is a setting for web searches and once I turned that off my browser worked normally again. I guess thats a new "feature".
Had the same problem, uninstalling the app fixed it. Please flag this app in Google play so Google can know about this! If you ask me, changing the default search engine without notifying the user is pretty nasty and malicious.
FloatNSplit and A.I. keyboard seems to be the same app.

I recognized this problem at my tablet and searched for an solution. During my search I found this topic here - but unfortunately without help. So I tried everything at my Asus and as I discovered the guilty app I just shared this finding with other affected users (because I knew of this thread).
Had a search for this but didn't see anything relevant.
Recently, (about 2 weeks) I have had a constant problem updating apps, (either automatically or directly). I get a message that there is an error while retrieving RPC:S-5:AEC-0
Any solution?? Sorry if it is old news....
B
You obviously didn't do a search. At least not on Google for "error while retrieving RPC:S-5:AEC-0" because the solution is slap bang on the front page.
Two possible solutions:
Settings|apps|all
Find Google play store
Clear Cache
Force Stop
Back to list
Find Google Service Framework
Clear Data
Force Stop
Reboot device.
Or..:
Settings|Accounts|Google
Remove your Google account (nothing evil will happen.)
Re-add it.

Oh dear, I was naive enough to think that searching for "updating apps" but silly me, of course I should search by hyeroglyphic..... I'll try to remember that.
Many thanks for the answer.
B
That was a little cheap there, mate. It wasn't even meant as an insult, just an observation. Reporting it was overkill. (or if it wasn't you, someone else then.)
Did the solutions help or not? Because don't expect me to go looking for more after actually getting reported for helping.
Wouldn't worry about it Shadow.
The first thing anyone should do with any error code is google it. You actually tried to help in lieu of that.
I've been having weird issues the moment I got my OnePlus One rooted. To begin, 1 day after my device has been rooted, the play store/youtube/google now stopped working. The errors looks as follows:
Play Store:
Check your connection and try again. Retry.
Youtube:
I'm signed into youtube, however my subscription box and watch later is missing. Searching for videos won't work.
Google Now:
When I swipe all the way to the left, and I refresh my google now page, it says sign-in error.
This was due to an issue with the hosts file, located in /etc/hosts. The text originally looks like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
127.161.172.235 android.clients.google.com
mtalk.google.com
In order to make the play store/youtube/google now functional, you must delete all the text until it looks like this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Now this itself has been frustrating, as the hosts file will revert to its original self every few days, and you must manually delete the text everytime. Disabling the write function doesn't help
However, today was one of those days where I gotta delete the text AGAIN. But when I proceed to save the file, I get an error that states:
Error occurred when trying to save the file. It will not be saved.
I've looked everywhere for answers, but none of them work. I'm here to request for help.
Please do not ask me to download an app on the play store that may fix the problem, this is impossible as I cannot access the play store.
I appreciate all help given, and I would like to get this problem fixed, hopefully permanently so I don't have to edit my hosts every day.
Thank you.
Have you tried wiping the slate clean and flashing the fastboot images?
