Secure WiFi with MAC authentication - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Does anyone know of an SiFi tether app that can utilize MAC address filtering? I'm on CM10.1. Tried "WiFi tether", but it doesn't work well. Can only get the native access point function to work with no WiFi options.

[Q] Wifi problems

I'm having an issue where my wifi can't obtain an IP address from my router. I've reset both the phone and the router and it still can't connect. The password is correct. Any ideas? THanks
Edit: It goes into a loop where it tries to get an address for a while and then disconnects and then starts over
Same here. I'm rooted and get the same thing on different find including stock.
Try turning your encryption off and see if you can connect. If it connects then start working up through the encryption levels. Some devices can't handle higher level encryptions.

I'm trying to connect to open networks. So that's not the problem. hope we don't have another case of the captivate on our hands. I'm kind of in the middle right now with this phone. Possibly returning it and keeping my captivate with all its Rom flashing goodness. I know its early but this thing seems a little buggy to me and the battery isn't helping any.
I'm also having this problem. It tries to connect to the network, fails, and tries to connect again. I love this phone but I may return it and get the Attrix

Just connected, and fast!
Turning off the wifi encryption worked for me. Not ideal but ok for now.
Hate to sound noobish but......how do I turn off the encryption?

Log into your router and set wireless security to unsecured, then save changes
If get on wifi networks in different locations but have same SSID, it could cause connectivity issues (e.g., wifi SSID at my gym is "linksys", same as one of my neighbor's. My Inspire attempts to connect continuously without success to my neighbor's encrypted wifi after I've been at the gym which is an open wifi.)

Could you please fill me in on what you did to accomplish this. I am having the same exact issue it goes into a loop of trying to "obtain ip address" then disconnecting.
I have a stock inspire 4g, sig is outdated. Router was using wpa/wpa2 however i have switched through all the other available security settings (wep, no security) and the same issue persists.
Ok so now i went to the advanced settings and checked the DLNA auto-IP box, this allowed the phone to connect to the network however it still will not pull up any websites through the browser.
Been having the same problem here i can connect to my network but it times out trying to obtain an IP address disconnects and tries again. Any suggestions would be great because i can't seem to find an answer anywhere. My inspire is stock by the way never been rooted or anything
Is your router on IPv6? Needs to be on IPv4.
For those having problems with WiFi...
Change security to WEP
Put wireless router on channel 11
Try these settings first!

Still can't get it to obtain an IP address, however I got it to work by setting up a static IP address on the inspire. I would really like to get to the bottom of this problem though.
You might be having an IP conflict.. does your router allow you to assign IP per a connected device MAC address?
It basically holds a certain IP for a certain MAC address

Hmmm not sure I'll have to look into that. Havent tried to connect to any other networks yet guess that could help a bit
Have u updated the firmware on your network gear? What is your setup by the way?

Ok, tried to use a laptop today on my network and it had the same issue so I reset the whole system (i have at&t uverse) and that fixed it. Don't know why I didnt do that from that start but after I did my inspire connected first time with no problems.
I had a problem with my wireless router and my Verizon router using the same DNS gateways. I checked to see what my DLink routers DNS server/default gateway was using the commands in the run when you hit cmd+r on my PC. I then had to manually assign my phone to a static IP in wifi settings>advanced.
Example;
IP.(phone) 192.168.1.197
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.1
For some reason my phone was automatically reading 192.168.0.1 on the DNS and gateway.

Android tether not working.

I am running slim ics 4.0. When I try to tether it to my PC I cannot connect to the internet over the PC and it says DNS server not available. I tried the USB and wifi tether and it has the same error for both ways. I tether it through the android settings and am not using an app. Any ways to get it to work by thethering through the android settings without having to download an app? Thanks!

try changing the DNS on the PC to use Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

Wi-Fi simultaneous with 3g solution?

At my mountain cabin, I do not have a household internet connection, but I do have a Wi-Fi network set up strictly for media sharing. So when I connect my s3 to Wi-Fi for sharing media with DLNA, I can no longer access any internet from my phone and it assumes my Wi-Fi network is also an internet access point, which it is not. Is there any way to force the 3g radio to stay active for internet connectivity while the Wi-Fi radio is on just for media sharing?
I am on ICS rooted and unlocked, also 4g is not yet active in the mountains, so I am limited to using the 3g radio if that makes a difference....Any suggestions appreciated!

There actually is something for that, can't quite remember what its called but I'd do a search in the apps section under android apps. I'll link it if I see it again.

Since Wi-Fi tether uses both radios simultaneously it must be possible...just can't find the app anywhere....let me know if you locate it.

Thanks. That is a really cool program fir downloading from the internet, but doesn't really do what I need. All I want is to enable Wi-Fi for DLNA and other local streaming apps, but still have internet access via mobile data. For example, I would like to stream music/video/pictures remotely from my home PC via all share play on my s3 and play them on my tv via my DLNA enabled blu ray player using the remote screen option on the S3. I don't think this currently exists, but let me know if you think of any thing else. Thanks again!

Check these threads, it has been done so far successfully on Optimus G, as well as Nexus 4 phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640472
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197776
Since you are rooted, please try these methods, make them work on your phone, and post your results and any changes here. I was able to bring up wifi on my nexus 4 without bringing down my mobile data. The only glitch is that the wifi icon does not turn on, but both networks are verifyiably up, so I can ssh from the phone to my LAN (and vice versa) and I can traceroute from my phone to the outside world, or access websites, through my mobile carrier.

How to do routing from USB to Android device to WiFi coonection to Interweb?

I have a not that unusual request but google searching it is impossible due to the interchangable words and their context.....
I have an Android device with a WiFi hotspot app installed that allows me to connect to hotspots anywhere.
I am at a friends who's internet connection is currently down and needs to get online for a few hours.
I have my USB to device cable.
So I want to do.....
His Computer --> USB Cable --> My Android Device --> WiFi Connection --> My Hotspot provider --> Interweb
This would seem to be fairly standard proxy forwarding to me, so is there a proxy server app for Android?
Before anyone suggests it I can't use tethering as he wants a shedload of data and it would break my 3g cap.
Thanks in advance.

Look buddy if you want to connect your friends phone with your wifi hotspot then turn it on in settings.
You must know that there is a difference in wifi and wifi hotspot.
Your android phone must be enable of wifi hotspot or wifi tethering.
And specify your particular problem.dont mess your question.

PDANET 3.5 via USB tetheror JB USB tethering.
Just enable disable radios, start thering on the device, plug it in.. you may need a client on the pc (as in PDANET).
They are what you are looking for.
