can't flash cm10.1 - what did i miss?? - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Nothing i do seems to be working and I'm certain I'm overlooking something simple.
I have SS3 installed. I created the partition in slot 1. Wipe install wipe. But i can't even get the boot animation. I even let it sit for 30 minutes. My d3 flashed with no problem. Is there some trick to the razr maxx hd's?
Thanks
Eric

You need an unlocked boot loader to use any 4.2 ROMs..

Well you can't use safe strap you need to use cwm. Must have missed that instruction. And the one that said unlocked bootloader only.

no splash screen on safestrap 2.11 or 3.x

I have a droid razr. i upgraded to the maxx hd. i am rooted with 4.1.1 thanks to your great work. How do I boot to safestrap reovery?
I do not get any splashscreen. It goes right into bootup, plus the phone has no menu button! Could someone tell me how to get to bootstrap recovery so I can make a backup. BTW, I am on my 3rd razr maxx- they dont seem to be as well made eletronically-and removing safestrap from 2 previous updates caused it not to take OTA.
Safe strap is not in the root. Once you have achieved root whats next is downloading the apk for safe strap in one of the threads (the latest should be version 3.17i believe). Once downloaded, open the app and install recovery . you have an option to install safe strap recovery and uninstall it like your would any application. Then from there you can reboot and after the Motorola symbol you will see a Frankenstein like character with the option to boot into recovery or continue booting into the system.

tx926 all messed up

I need help trying to get back to the way it was. the bootloader is unlock, the phone will boot but here is the trouble 1. it will not do a factory reset, 2. the wireless is disabled, 3. no google apps are installed. I have used teamwin to format everything and do a install but it just updates the already installed programs. I have tried carbon and all the vers. of cm10. I also tried fastboot to install the img files. I used fastboot to format the phone all of this doesn't help. I been trying for 3 days to get back and I am getting nowhere. I need help bad.

Have you tried a different recovery - like cwm? It may make a difference.
Well cm 10 is based on 4.1 and those are 4.2 gapps I believe.

I had a ton of problems with my phone when I first got it. I was using twrp but when I fastbooted and started over with cwm (oudhs version) everything went much better. Idk why but that was my experience. So I suggest trying to switch recoveries like someone else suggested.

I am unable to flash the cwm recovery or twrp also a new kernel. It takes a long time to get pasted the screen "bootloader is unlocked". Again the wifi and blue tooth are not working. the wifi when going to the advanced menu shows that region code is Europe. Changed to USA closed and reopen and it is back to Europe. Is the bootloader causing all this???? ow can I see what is in the bootloader and edit it?
Have I got everyone stumped on this problem?

[Q] Need help getting up after try CM10.2 nightly

I was running Xylon and decided to download DLHacker's latest CM10.2. I backup up Xylon, wiped system, data, cache & dalvik and installed the the 8-13 build as well as the 8-12 gapps. First boot seemed to go okay but the keyboard kept force closing to the point that I could not complete the set-up. I forced a reboot, got back into TWRP and wiped cache & dalvik and fixed permissions. Now it hangs at the splash screen, doesn't boot loop, just hangs. So I got back into recovery, wiped system, data, cache & dalvik and restored my Xylon backup. Still hangs on the splash screen, doesn't boot loop, just hangs. I go back into recovery and wipe everything again and try to install an older build of Rage HD (4.1.2) and it reboots recovery everytime I try to install it.
I am currently installing the CM10.2 build and am going to use the 3-1 gapps I have on the sd and see if that makes any difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as looking now it seems like that combo is hanging on the splash screen too.
I experienced something similar when flashing CM 10.2. I ended up fastbooting back to stock.

I think that's what is going to have to happen, can't do that from my work computer though, guess I'm phoneless for the day. That means no Freebeer & Hotwings podcast and no music. Oh well, that's why they call it the bleeding edge, sometimes ya get cut.
I plan to install the latest firmware through RSDLite when I get home, does anyone know if there an issue with installing the MR4 (VZW_XT926_4.1.2_9.8.1Q_62_VQW_MR-4_VQW_CFC) when I'm unlocked? Will I have any issue re-rooting or anything like that if I install the latest firmware rather than an earlier one? I never recieved MR4 OTA because I was no longer stock when it was pushed.

There wont be an issue because you are unlocked. AFIK you cant root the newest firmware. If I were you id flash the last OTA that can be rooted, root it, use a root keeper such as voodoo to back it up, take the latest OTA, then restore root with the root keeper you used.

I'll have to do a bit of research before I pull the trigger. I'm pretty sure the first 4.1.2 VZW pushed can be rooted...
To the root threadz!
You are correct. The first 4.1.2 was rootable. You could use the Droid Utility 2.0 to restore that version and root.

Finally got things fixed. I tried through rsd lite, but it kept failing. Downloaded one of the utilities and it seemed to work, but still hung on the splash screen. So after downloading a few other factory images which also failed to flash, I saw the problem. Somehow I had downloaded rsd lite 5.6. *facepalm* Probably stay stock for a little bit, thanks for the help.

Droid Razr HD bootloop after 1st boot

I have an XT926 with CM10.2 installed. I started clean and unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp2.6.0.0 and made a backup of my 4.1.2 stock rom. I then wipe everything multiple times, install cm10.2 and boot. It boots fine and I got everything set up. Then I go to reboot and it just hangs at the motorola logo and wont go anywhere. I have done this several times now, even with using the droid razr hd utility to go back to stock. Does anybody know why it could be doing this or any kind of a fix. Im going to try to see if it has this same problem with 4.1. But any help is appreciated.

Stable rom?

I'm coming from the Carbonite rom on Droidrzr.com and it's becoming a little buggy and less responsive. I came here looking for a stable rom that can be flashed quickly as the FC's are piling up and it's rather annoying. Any suggestions for my XT296?
Depends on whether you are on jb or kk. Jb I would go with either eclipse or nexesque.
Cm11 if you are on kk.

If you're asking that question, then I'm beginning to wonder if you know how to do it at all and you might want to proceed with caution. Not understanding how to flash can potentially cause you to bork your phone, which then causes a whole host of other issues. You should research more and learn about it before continuing.
If you do know how to flash or are comfortable with the directions given below, then here you go, but I'm not responsible for anything that might happen to your phone:
You must use TWRP or CWM for the KK kernel. Get either one from the links below and flash them to your phone:
TWRP -> http://loki.rombitch.com/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/TWRP2710-RAZR-HD_M-KITKAT.img
CWM -> http://loki.rombitch.com/Devs/Dhacker29/msm8960/CWM6049-RAZR-HD_M-KITKAT.img
Go here to get the latest nightly of CM11 ROM and place it on your external SD card of your phone -> http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=moto_msm8960
Go here to get the latest GAPPs (Google Apps - play store, etc) and place it on your external SD card of your phone -> http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
Boot into TWRP or CWM. You need to wipe cache, dalvik, data (doesn't wipe your internal SD card, just the /data partition), and system.
Flash CM11 image
Flash GAPPS
Wipe Cache and Dalvik
Reboot and profit
Any other issues, search this thread or google. There are plenty of answers in here that should help.

CM11 on 4.4.4 has some of the same problems of stock 4.4.2, particularly battery life and wifi disconnections/weak signal. It is usable as a daily driver tough.

I actually get better battery life with it than in stock and WiFi seems more stable than stock.
Using Xposed and Greenify, I can make my Droid RAZR HD (non-MAXX) last a day and a half with normal usage.
WiFi stability on the latest nightly (8-10-2014) seems excellent. I haven't had any dropped signals at home. Work is different, but I'm beginning to think it's the work router that is at fault as at home, I get a strong signal throughout the house (and our router is in the basement).

I am quite comfortable, but people started talking about different kernels and I just wanted to be positive. Does this need to go in slot 1? I remember CM10 for my old RAZR had to and I'm not fond of CM as I remember they always had GPS and wifi problems which are a big deal for me, so I always went with more stable roms.

Uh, as I mentioned, you must use TWRP or CWM recovery. CM11 doesn't use Safestrap.
There are no slots. You must have an unlocked bootloader and have already upgraded to the latest official KK release in order to use this.
As for Wifi and GPS issues, those are going to exist whether you are on stock KK or CWM. That's on Motorola's end to fix.

Obviously, there is much more to learn for you as I suspected. That is why I asked, because just by the questions you were asking, I could tell you were not familiar with flashing the CM11 ROM, especially since you mentioned using slot 1. That is for Safestrap and it is different from using TWRP or CWM. There are not slots in TWRP or CWM. Once you've flashed a custom ROM, there is no stock ROM available unless you flash an FXZ back, which then means you've lost the custom ROM. There is not switching between the two like in Safestrap because with CWM or TWRP, you are able to flash custom kernels due to an unlocked bootloader.
Which then leads me to my next assumption - you don't have an unlocked bootloader, do you?
You need to first flash back to stock, then upgrade to stock KK 4.4.2. Then, use Towelroot to root your phone, then use Motopocalypse to unlock your bootloader, then flash TWRP or CWM, then flash CM11.
I'm not going to rehash everything in this thread. The information is out there, you just have to look for it and it's not that hard to find.
Go here to get your phone to stock KK, root and unlock the bootloader -> http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/46155-rootunlock-442-182183-razr-hdm-only/
You MUST unlock the bootloader before you proceed to install CM11.
Please, read, read and re-read what is posted there BEFORE you attempt to do it. It's not that difficult to do but we always get people who attempt to do the unlocking WHILE reading the post for the first time and they end up borking their phone and more work is needed to fix it, or worse, they've perma-bricked it because they went and tried something different.
After you have flashed back to stock KK, rooted and unlocked your bootloader, THEN you may proceed to load up CM11 as I outlined above.

I already have an unlocked bootloader. I'm rooted with 4.4.2 Carbonite. The only thing I need help with is getting to 4.4.4. I'm not very knowledgeable with the RAZR Maxx Hd, but on my old razr I used a tool to flash up to the next update then I flashed the rom. I was just wondering if that's the same deal with the Maxx HD.

All the links I posted will get you to 4.4.2 stock. Carbonite is not stock. You have to ensure you are on 4.4.2 stock before you can flash to CM11.
Again, ALL the links I posted will get you there. Follow them. Read, read, and re-read them before doing anything. I don't know how much more I can help you. I'm not going to rehash and repost what is already outlined in the links I gave you.
If you are already unlocked, skip the towelroot and motopocalypse steps and just flash your phone back to stock 4.4.2. All the links are there to get you the files and tools you need.
Once that is done, then just go flash twrp or cwm and then go get CM11 and you'll be on 4.4.4

Okay, let's try this one more time. Again, I've posted all the links you need, but here we go with some extra ones:
Flash back to stock IF you have never upgraded to stock Kit Kat (what you are currently on does NOT count as stock). If you HAVE upgraded to STOCK Kit Kat (from Motorola) at any time, then skip this step and go to step 2. Only flash back to stock KK if you have never upgraded your phone to stock KK. Custom ROMs do NOT count as upgrading to KK. To flash back to stock, go here -> http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/45494-fxz-442-1834610/
Flash TWRP to your phone. You MUST have the latest TWRP that works with the KK kernel. Get it here ->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2776515
Flash CM11 to your phone. Get the latest nightly here -> http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=moto_msm8960.
Go to TWRP.
Wipe/format the data, cache, dalvik and system partitions.
Flash CM11
Flash GAPPS to your phone. Get it here -> http://itvends.com/gapps/gapps-kk-20140606-signed.zip
After flashing gapps, wipe cache and dalvik
Reboot.
Profit.
I really cannot make it any simpler than that. If you can't follow these directions, then I'm not sure what else I can do to help you.
Good luck!
