For Global User using Verizon S3(Using the Phone on GSM) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Now you can use your S3 with DATA while roaming without having to root it! the new update allows you to add APN. So for people like me who travel a lot and are complete stock, YAY

That's cool and about time! haha would you care to post a screenshot? I'm just curious of what the APN settings now look like.

Here you go! I havnt put a SIM in, that's why its not highlighted. but once you put one in. you can add whichever your network takes!

So if I understand this correctly, if I travel to Europe, I can just buy a local SIM card, insert, and be able to use data? No unlocking, rooting, etc?
Thanks!

Wait a minute on S3 Google
The S3 works in Europe at least at Vodafone (UK) and France that I've tested. However, until the recent update in the last few weeks you still CANNOT edit the APN. The default APN works with the 3rd party SIM but ONLY for phone calls and text and NOT DATA.
I know this to be correct as my wife has the S3 and we were in UK and France in the last few weeks. The new update that was pulled last week for some other issues (Sumnsung / Verizon), will be re-released and it should allow the APN to be edited / created.
On my NOTE II, the update 2 months ago allows me to edit the APN now. Thus, I've successfully used it now for Phone, text and DATA on a VodaFone SIM.
To edit the APN with the correct details, do a search on google for UK VODAFONE APN settings or something like that. Pick the contract or PAYG (Pay as you go) settings as appropriate.
HOWEVER even for the NOTE II since the last update there are still 2 bugs.
1. The NOTE II still gives the no VERIZON sim code error (although the error is passive and can be ignored)
2. The NOTE II does not yet support being a HOTSPOT with the VodaFone (or any 3rd party SIM). The bug is that it tries to connect to Verizon to authorize the phone for the Hotspot enablement (which it shouldn't when it's on a 3rd party SIM).
Verizon are getting there.

You can only use 3G data if the carrier uses the 2100MHz band
850/900/1700/1900 can only get 2G
Blame Verizon and Samsung for blocking almost everything

FYI... I'm about 99% sure 2 simple Build prop edits (yes you need root for that) is all that is needed to be able to Edit the APN's(make too many changes to my phone to keep really good track)... Just need to change your sales codes IIRC. You can unlock the Network mode menu for all the bands to select what you need though as well. But going to Phone Info seems to set easier if it won't change for you...

[Q] Tmobile HTC One S on AT&T, only calls and text, no data..help

Ok
I've been trying to get this to work all day.
Spent two hours on the phone with AT&T
No luck.
What I have, my microsim from AT&T iPhone 4.
I put it in a htc one s purchased from amazon.
I can make phone calls and text, but no data.
Called AT&T.
The lady spent an hour messing around with mobile
network settings, APN settings, and I still have nada
Any ideas or help is GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I've searched various forums, etc.
Nada
I've reset phone at least 3 times.
Did the person who unlocked it do a crappy job
Would it still make calls and text if it wasn't unlocked.
Thanks.
1) APN settings. are you sure you've CORRECTLY taken care of that? use wap.cingular if you have grandfathered 3g unlimited plan, or use the "phone" apn if you are on HSPA+ plans. I know you said you tried apn settings but your problem really sounds like it originated from incorrect apn
2) are you using a EU or t-mobile based rom? I tried both and data works on both. but it disconnected periodically on a EU-based rom. When I was on the stock t-mobile rom, I popped in my simcard, deleted the original t-mobile apns and added my ATT apn, and data started working
3) even though my data works, sometimes its funky. The up and down signal would go on and off. To fix it, I need restart the mobile network (switch to wcdma only then back to wcdma/gsm auto)
I'm on TMo and my phone started acting the same as far as i know today. Unlocked and rooted, went through and deleted the bloatware yesterday. Data was working night before and been on WiFi today, but when turned WiFi off then there was no data connection.

Btread I have the US T-Mobile One S and it works great on att. I used my sim from an iPhone as well.. When you installed your sim did it ask which carrier you are on? I am using leedroid Rom and it asked. I picked att and no issues.

Does the new JB update bring unlocked 3G GSM?

I've read that the update will bring new global roaming capability, so has anyone tried to stick a GSM SIM into the phone yet? Does the new JB update bring unlocked 3G GSM?
No, it does not. I updated to 4.1.1 bone stock and got it to register on T-Mobile's network, but there is no way to change APN's, so data and text/mm do not work.
Now, before the update you could root and get a program to add in the APN of whichever network you wanted... folks (including myself) have had it on AT&T and T-Mobile's GSM networks, albeit without WCDMA ("3g"). Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895684 for progress on getting WCDMA working on the 1900 band. The phone works on the 2100 band out of the box, but no US carrier uses that for WCDMA.
Okay, that said, post-update, I am sure the same APN tricks that worked pre-update, will work now, but sadly one has to be rooted to do that. Attached are two screenshots from while I was farking about with it.
Why not root, then? No disadvantages that I can see

To be honest, I'm amazed that VZW is allowing you to use another carrier's GSM SIM at all without some sort of unlock code (since this is the case with most phones sold in this country).
I assumed that their "Global Roaming" capability meant that you can take your SGS3 with the VZW SIM to countries (e.g. everywhere other than the USA) that only have GSM (WCDMA/HSDPA) and pay Verizon's extortion (roaming) fees. Maybe the lack of unlock is due to the fact that the phone's primary radios are LTE and CDMA?
If someone can confirm that rooting the phone will allow you to change the APNs it would be greatly appreciated. My family is vacationing in Costa Rica this winter. I've already acquired a couple of unlocked AT&T phones that we plan to use with local prepaid SIM cards, but it'd be nice to be able to have the option of using my I535 there as well.
Thanks!

Its not as cut and dry as that. If you have to root the phone to move carriers technically you are in the wrong. If that is what you mean by unlocked.

Actually you are wrong. He is referring to the FCC ruling. And we should not need to root to be unlocked. I think that is the point he was trying to make.
Does the inability to change APN affect only the domestic US carriers or is it true for any country's Sim card you put in for gsm use. (Verizon global phones have in the past operated where domestic sims don't work but international ones do)

I recently updated to the leaked K3 while traveling on business in the Philippines. While voice and text work, there is no way to add any new APN settings in both GSM/UMTS and Global modes. When clicking on Menu in the APN settings, the only option is to restore to default.
Note that while voice and text do work, there is a notification i the notification menu stating "Non-Verizon SIM: Sorry, this SIM card is not supported. Please..."
I believe that the frequency the carrier runs on is GSM900. Hope that helps clarify things. I spent way too much time trying to get 3G to work over here to no success.
Has anyone just tried using Verizon's Global Data Plan ($25 for 100 MB)? Is the S3 somehow not compatible with that plan?
I'm looking at getting the VZW S3 but I've heard all kinds of things about getting the Verizon S3 to work globally pre/post JB update. I know the local sim rates are much cheaper, but for an occasional traveler this is supposed to be the easy solution.

No data on Galaxy Note

Currently I have a Unlimited iPhone data plan with AT&T. I wanted to test an android phone and purchased a Nexus 5 unlocked. I just added the WAP. And settings and the phone works okay with LTE. I wanted a bigger phone a purchased a galaxy Note III intetwnional version unlocked but when I popped the SIM in the note Data does not seem to work. I tried the WAP Apr setting and the AT&T phone App setting and still nothing.
PS. I have a Solavei Sim which I used to also test the 3 phones and data was working with all 3

Unlock note 8 does not support LTE on AT&T

Hello,
Can you guys who have the unlock note 8 and on AT&T network confirm that it does not support LTE?
I saw a review on Best Buy stating that he could not get it to work after numerous call to tech, and AT&T suggested they buy the AT&T version and unlock it.
I just bought the unlock version from Samsung and planning on using it on AT&T, I tether a lot in my car and if LTE is not available I will probably return it.
I am not going to paid almost $1000 for a phone that does not support 4G LTE

Well, I am in the same boat as you. I bought unlocked directly from Samsung and put my AT&T sim from my AT&T branded S7 edge in thinking that it will just work. First I didn't even have data so I changed the APN and got data but only H+ speed at best. I did chat online at AT&T and the first time the tech said that I needed a new sim and I can get a free one at a local AT&T store. I reverted the phone back to stock without data connection and went to my local AT&T store. I told the guy there what the tech said and he took my phone and just mucked around with it and got data connection but only H+. He said it is probably the best this phone can do. I am like ??? But I didn't argue with him and left. I again went on chat at AT&T website and the tech did something on her end and eventually open a case for me. I waited 2 days and finally got an email saying that it is the area that I am in and that would be the best signal I will get. Again what the ????. I had LTE all along in the past at the same place, home. So after 2 more days, I again did chat with AT&T and this tech basically said I needed a new sim and he will send one to me for free. So now I am waiting for the new sim and hopefully with the new sim, I can register the sim with my IMEI and get LTE back. You should probably save all this trouble and ask for a new sim to start with. Good luck.

all Verizon phones are unlocked without the bootloader being able to be unlocked but if your flashing carrier firmware you can go from any carrier without voiding warranties and messing your phone up. The unlocked one from samsung just comes without the bloatware and from what ive read its still bootloader locked as well because of the snapdragon chipset in it. But if you put the att rom on it you wont have a issue and will get all the features including the lte enhanced services and all

I received my phone last week and I was also having LTE problem. At first it was no service, then after some apn configs I was getting H, and H+ speeds. I had talked to multiple ATT reps and most said I would have to wait until they released the phone for it to be seem in there system. Since it was realeased on the 15th and the update came today, I thought it would fix it. It did not so I called ATT again. after about forty mins on the phone and many restarts later we finally got it to work. I now have LTE and LTE+ for ATT on my unlocked SM-n950u1 .

I think he said something along the lines of, " It's permissions were defaulting to 3g," or something similar. He may have also removed my device and re added it. He also mentioned that he was getting permission from a supervisor to make an official report since it seems to not be an isolated incident.
Attached is the post on best buy I was referring to, that's why I was scared since I have already ordered it.
But glad to hear it works and should work just like the locked version for LTE.
Getting the unlocked today, will goto local AT&T store and get a new sim card first thing. I will let you know how it goes.

LTE not functioning on AT&T

I've changed access point to the right settings and I still only get HSPA connection. I've searched other things online but nothing. Spoke to 3 reps. It says that LTE bands are supported so how do I get the best settings to get things running right? I've conveyed to international and the phone is totally unlocked. Sim and bootloader both. Am I missing something?

I did. I think maybe since it's not 5G version perhaps. At any rate I've gotten a fix the rep did.... Activated on another device like galaxy s10 then put back into my phone. I have LTE now since we've tricked the system
Also They are telling me they need to enter the imei range for all oneplus 7 pro phones which takes about 2 weeks. So hopefully the system won't figure out I'm using something other then S10 ?

Rubbish perhaps but that's what they've told me and until the rep did the trick to my sim, only got 3G. Maybe this temporary thing will be perm since he said for his Android the system thinks it's iPhone 7

That is pretty good of the rep to work out some solution. They could have just said "We don't support your device."
Over the years, I have used several international phones on AT&T. The issue is if you establish a new line on a new sim card, lte must be "provisioned" (their term not mine).
To provision the new sim card for lte, we need to put it into an AT&T branded phone first to activate the lte, or call customer service and give them an imei from an AT&T branded phone. Once the sim card is provisioned for lte it can be moved from phone to phone no problem.
For that reason, I still keep my AT&T Galaxy Note 2 around. Anytime I get a new AT&T sim card, I put it into the Note 2, wait until I see it has lte service then it's good to use in any international phone.
