[Q] Issue installing Cromi-X - Asus Transformer TF700

Hey all,
I bought a new Tf700t today. I allowed it to update until the build was 4.2.1 / 10.6.1.14.8, then unlocked it using the Asus tool. No issues so far. I then installed goomanager and installed TWRP via the 'install open script' menu option. The file downloaded and stated the recovery was installed. Prior to this I ensured USB Debugging was enabled and also the allow unknown sources app installs.
I have the DEODEX install file on a removable microSD in the device.
I then proceeded to reboot to recovery via power + volume down and got the screen to select RCK with Volume Up, as per the Cromi-X install thread. But after that I just get the little android robot thing with a red exclamation, and it wont boot. I have tried repoeating all the above steps several times but I cant get this to work.
Can anyone see what Im doing wrong? I have read dozens of threads and am wary of straying too far from this path out of desperation, Id rather wait for some guidance.I did try to motorchopper app to root the device, as I feel that might be the step that is missing here.
ANy help dearly appreciated - thanks

Your device needed to be rooted in order to use goomanager to install TWRP 2.5.0.0. You can also use Fastboot to install TWRP or use Motochopper to get root before using Goomanager to install TWRP. Here is the link how to use Motochopper: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228613

+1 this is true. You need to be rooted to use goo.

ok def seemed to be the rooting - got it working. I have two problems now that i hope can be sorted.
1. Upon first boot i was asked which launcher to use and chose go launcher hd. i want to revert to standard launcher but cant find how?
2. google chrome fails to install with error -24. It was ok on the stock rom. how does one even begin to troubleshoot these types of issues on a tablet? i ismtalled from play directly should i dl a file and do it via pc sync?
im not seeing the dratic improvement others have. scrolling pages still has that minor shudder but its early days so i still hold hope.

First, Congratulation to you that you got the hardest part done.
Second, 1. Go to your App Manager and open the launcher that you want to switch to. After you have launched, the popup will appear and select the Always button. It will set it to default. 2. I am sure what that error code is. If you are not using Data2SD, I would recommend that you need to wipe Dalvik, Cache, and data in your recovery mode and reboot it with a following of a cold boot. Be careful when you wipe data, you will loose all data and apps. I would recommend you to do a backup in TWRP. It is odd. I saw a big difference in performance when switched from Stock to Cromi X. Sbdags did a tremendous job on this Rom. For the internet, you need to tweak the network a little bit more to load and download faster. You will get more improvement in performance if you had Fsync off or Data2SD.

Brand new TF700 - unlocked and modded on day 1... You don't strike me as the patient type
Did you let the new rom settle after you flashed? I bet you jumped right in, didn't you?
Which Kernel did you flash?
Which dpi?
Did you disable fsync in the Aroma installer?
Try clearing cache and data for the Play Store in Apps and download Chrome again. Although - Chrome is probably the slowest of all browsers on CROMi-X, with the stock browser for me being the fastest.

haha well you got me there! I modded my brand new car within a month also, cant help it when things come from factory less than optimised
However, I pained over the choice of tablet for almost a month. I've only ever used the girlfriends iPAD and I find apple stuff INFURIATING to use, but admittedly its smooth. The TF700 has so many people complaining about its performance I would never have bought it if not for its flexibility and of course the existence of this mod.
In any case, I didn't let the ROM settle. I'm sure its documented but what does that even mean? Are there a bunch of background processes that need to finish running before its best to use? That would make sense I guess.
Not sure what kernel? - I followed the steps exactly in the Cromi-X main thread here - 4.6.6 DEODEX version.
dpi - thats the font/icon selection during install? If so I chose the recommended TF700 medium-small.
I enabled FSYNC in the installer- it was unchecked by default.
I will try those things once the full charge completes. Thanks for the tips. I use chrome on all my other devices so I want to continue with the convenience but I might take a look at the others given most now support sync in one form or another.

If you left it at default selection you are probably running _that's kernel, which is a good one. To find out check under About Tablet.
fsync is enabled by default in the stock rom and also in CROMi-X. You had one screen where you had to check a box that you had read the warning about disabling fsync. On the next screen, among a bunch of options, you could disable fsync by checking the box next to it. If you checked it, you have fsync disabled - which is a good choice IMO. Never had a problem because of that.
BTW, if you experience lag, read the last - jeez, about 30 posts - in the CROMi-X thread. Seems sbdags was a little aggressive with some settings in 4.6.6 which caused major lag for quite a few people. He posted a fix or patch for it until he's back from vacation.
I'm still on 4.6.5 and will skip 4.6.6 for that reason. So if you have lag, either apply the patch or flash 4.6.5.

[Q] Images do not load fully

Hi,
Forgive me if there was a thread about this already, but I looked as far as i can. This has been happening for a while and I about had it with this. To start of obviously I have an Asus Tf700. Its rooted and I have the Browser2Ram equivalent fix also in this forum [Q] Browser2Ram with JB 4.2.1 not working. I'm also using the stock browser.
Now to the problem. Around 80% of the time I open a webpage that has an image only it in, like imgur, it only loads as far as the screen can see. I would be content with hitting Ctrl+R but the damn thing will also only load what the screen can show leaving the rest blank when I scroll (see attached image). I have to go to the address bar and hit enter to have the page reload and that fixes it. I have to do it a lot and its driving me crazy. Also like 5% of webpages will sometimes load with all the text in one row with usually a black background (What I usually get on my PC when I'm fully utilizing the bandwidth with downloading) without any cause.
Is there any fix to this? I'd rather stay with the stock browser as it is almost perfect except for this.
Thanks.

I have the same issue. Has anyone else noticed that the back button doesn't really work in the stock browser either? Sometimes when you hit back it just reloads the page.

Actually, that is due to Adblock. You using Cromi/x? If so disable adblock, and the back button will work correctly.

go into settings --> apps.-->browser--> clear cache and reset data, reboot your device then try again without touching anything, see if the issue still there or not?

It's not much you can do with stock rom (still locked), many complained that it laggy and slow. I have tried stock rom before and it was running great for a about a week or so then it became laggy and stuttering. The only thing that you can do is do a clean install (reflash the rom). If that doesn't help then you need to think about unlock your device for custom rom/kernel.

Ultimately I will go for a custom rom, I'm just waiting for the waranty on this sucker to run out before I do so. What custom rom/kernel do you recommend or had the best performance with?
Thanks for your help again buhohitr.
If anyone manages to find a fix for this please do not hesistate to post it.

Reflashing the ROM replaces the contents of the /system partition with exactly the same file that were already there. Since the /system partition is read-only, reflashing the ROM is only useful for repairing 'accidents' with rooted programs, but not for fixing browser issues in a stock ROM. For that, you can only play with deleting things on /data.

Yes, I did. I also had some trouble at first but what I did was upload the image to www.imgur.com and then click on the image so that the url at the top ends with a .jpg (can also be done with the TF00). Then when you want to attach it to a post click on the paperclip icon and upload the image as a url (again make sure you enter the url that ends with the .jpg). I hope that helps.

Thanks i was hoping I could upload an image from my gallery, that would be so much better.
I was about to ask this question too. I am on stock jelly bean, unrooted.. But I have tried so many browsers (dolphin, boat, Firefox, stock, etc) and they all have this problem. Chrome and opera does not seem to have this problem. Does anyone seem to have an idea of what the problem is?
Possible Solution
Hi,
I was thinking of a possible solution this afternoon but unfortunately I don't know how to implement it. Clearing the cache of the broswer app seemed to help mitigate the problem but not eliminate it completely. Would it be possible to write something to increase the capacity of the broswer's cache, or have it clear on its own everytime it's run?
Thanks again!

Shouldn't be any reason you couldn't use TWRP. I'm pretty sure nard himself uses it. The CWM was a CM project for a long time, and still the recovery built within it. Everyone pushes their stuff.
been running M7 for about a day now. had one fc with touchdown, my work email client, but otherwise looks good. surprised i had to manually change build.prop to set the dpi. i'm not blind, so i hate the trend towards gigantic fonts even on smallish screens like this one.
i also wasn't able to use tibu to restore securid from my old phone (vzw droid4) but i suspect that app uses some system properties like imei to create its security, so it can't be moved... not a problem. just have to do clean in stall and reimport the token.
one thing i noticed even in cm11m2 on my d4 as well as on this phone in cm11m7 is that the included sms app doesn't actually have a dark theme, and that sticks out like a sore thumb. even when you check the box for dark theme in the sms app itself, it's still white. not a huge deal obviously but doesn't match the rest of cm's normal polish.

The "use dark theme" option only applies to the quick reply pop up windows. The option is conveniently listed in the "quick reply" section.

doh, you're right. my point still stands about messaging not matching the rest of cm's theming. i guess they expect people to just use chomp, go, handcent or whatever other app... i like the standard one in cm tho. except for how light it is.
What did change from the blobs for the builds after 14 /06 ?
Running 14/06 now, really good, battery charging issues are gone (i think), because a new kernel/other blobs.
Where can you find more info about blobs changes (propetary) ?
I've been having data and sms issues lately since I switched to cm11 or any of the latest 4.3.3 builds. Was there a recent radio firmware released?

which build are you on? i'm running cm11-20140608-Snapshot-M7 (which is 4.4.2, not 4.3.3) and have no issues to report so far. i haven't given it a full shakedown yet - still haven't tried BT or GPS but so far so good. watched netflix on the bus this morning and never had an issue. my wife and i text a lot and haven't had issues w/ that either. this evening i'm going to try out BT with my elm327 obd-ii adapter and if i have time, test audio over an avantree cara adapter. i started google maps a couple times and it found me quickly and accurately but i haven't run gps for more than a minute or so at a time so i don't know how it'll do. maybe i'll turn it on while on the bus this afternoon and see if it works well for the whole ride home.

First, use the most up-to-date recovery; I'm pretty sure that cwm 6.0.1.2 isn't it if I see 6.0.4.7 on other devices. I like using TWRP personally, and there's a thread in this forum for that. The outdated recovery is probably the main problem right there for the failed flash.
Second, it doesn't look like you wiped anything in your steps. No factory reset, not even wiping cache and dalvik. Most people do a clean flash (that's a factory reset in recovery) when troubleshooting a failure to install a custom ROM.
Try using the latest recovery, wiping at least cache and dalvik, and see if it helps.
Good luck

i second this. my steps were:
1- boot to download mode, install twrp
2- boot to recovery, flash CM
3- while still in recovery, flash gapps if you want them (make sure you have the correct version of gapps from the CM site)
4- still in recovery, wipe cache and dalvik
5- still in recovery, do factory reset
6- reboot normally (it's called 'system' in twrp) and start using phone
note that there is no need to copy/flash SU at any time because CM is already rooted.
using nightly 22/06 my phone slowed down to unusable slow, flashed 24/06 yesterday.
Never had this before on cm nightly's for the relay.
And the charging (usb) problems aren't over yet (sometimes it works fine for a few hours, sometimes a few minutes).
Did a clean install a week ago (didn't solve anything).

Ok. Now, find out what version of cpu you have and get some logs to help them track down your problems.
There's a search box in the corner.
I don't have any of the problems you are describing and I am betting the developers do not, either.

I am on T-Mo, I get this via the default android messaging app as well as hangouts, but I also have times where mobile data refuses to work as well.
Right now, I'm having this issue on 11-20140608-Snapshot-M7-apexqtmo. I did wipe data and cache before I flashed. I'm not sure what is causing my issue.
I am tempted to reflash it back to factory, and take it back under my total care and get it replaced for a S5, but I really like my keyboard. :crying:
did you wipe cache and dalvik after flashing the rom? the only quirk i've noticed on m7 is that if i don't reboot every couple of days, my work email program (touchdown) likes to get slow and crashy while composing emails. going to the recent apps drawer and closing everything there usually fixes that. gps and bluetooth work fine even at the same time and battery life is great. after having tried multiple roms on my droid4 and having gps and camera issues, i am pleasently susprised how stable cm is on this relay (which i've only had a couple weeks now).

I even tried that too. My phone's about a year and a half old now. I've noticed recently if the keyboard is out, or i'm holding the phone sideways, and I get a call, the phone app crashes over and over till i rotate it upward so the display is vertical, then it stops crashing(all while the phone is still ringing so I can still answer it.)

Downgrade from Lollipop. Possible?

Hi there.
I have had Lollipop on my Nvidia Tablet for a few days now and had nothing but problems.
The internet is now a cluster**** of adverts as adblocker plus does not work correctly, and programs I used every day are now useless (sixaxis controller etc). I also miss the power control options and the chew on you have adjusting volume in apps and etc (priority bull crap pops up). I also have a 50% compatibility compared to Kit Kat. Is they a way to revert back to last os as I feel I have ruined my device.
I have my device bootloader unlocked, rooted and running CWM.
Kind regards
Alex
Adaway works fine for me. Most power options are still there, just in a different spot. And i don't chew on my tablet, so not sure what you are talking about there. It runs much better on 5.0 for me. Less RAM being utilized. Chrome is MUCH smoother than before. I felt like i was using my old touchpad til i got the upgrade.

I can only say that when I upgraded to Lollipop things were sluggish until I Factory reset and installed everyting from scratch. Now, I cant find one reason to go back... AdAway works great!
Best regards,
Carlos
My tablet still tastes like plastic, glass, and other materials. Did they promise chewing on it would get a new flavor?
Also not sure what you're talking about as far as app compatibility goes. Have only hit a couple very niche apps that don't port over. The advanced power options are hidden either in a power setting or battery setting widget, though.
You both just solved half my problems with adaway. Is they a way i can get the sixaxis app working again?

If my memory serves right, when you factory reset, you don't loose root.... but if you do loose it, it's not so hard to gain it back. that is well documented on another thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/development/root-root-lollipop-t2945044

What i don't want to do is unlock the bootloader, thought you were on locked bootloader and rooted before the perform the factory reset.
I was having serious lag issues. I successfully restored to the official nvidia 1.2.1 update (last KitKat build) then relocked my boot loader, factory reset. Booted and back to kit kat, perfect, then downloaded the update fresh without my extra apps, applied, factory reset then booted. So far a hell of a lot better, not perfect but much more bare able. Kit kat shouldn't be faster, should it? Lol. Need custom ROMs with nvidia apps and a cool custom kernal.
Go to shield.nvidia.com sign up to developer. Then download the 1.2.1 KitKat image, unzip and place in a folder with adb and fastboot files, make sure your boot loader is unlocked. Put your device in boot loader then use the official flash all batch file. Then relock boot loader and factory reset through recovery. And you'll be downgraded. If you need help let me know. Just in case my model is the 16gb WiFi only model.
Just for the record the cause of all my lags were due to Facebook. Must have a memory leak. Installed it and performance and lag became terrible like before. I uninstalled it, left the beta programming and rebooted and all is good. Now to use a Facebook alternative. Lol.

Its a weird one. I can use Facebook on my oneplus one on an unofficial lollipop ROM perfect but not my shield tablet. Couldn't believe that was the culprit of all the serious lag! It was really unusable to the point i was going to downgrade to KitKat again and sell it and just use my shield portable. Or I had a bad device. Turns out it was just a Facebook issue. So I apologise nvidia! Lol. Just goes to show smaller companies and even individuals can put out better optimized applications. They should do a talon plus inspired version.

Try This!
While on KitKat I was rooted and had Philz recovery. I installed the Lollipop update and lost root but fortunately I still had my recovery.
I did the following to get root on lollipop with writable sdcard and managed to make my device extremely fast/snappy (better than ever)...
0. Download SuperSU v.2.27 zip and copy to sdcard -link- http://download.chainfire.eu/630/Sup...erSU-v2.27.zip
1. Reboot to recovery (No need for unlocking bootloader or changing kernel)
2. Do a factory reset and wipe cache and dalvic/art cache
3. In advanced menu select re-root
4. Now install superSU v.2.27 zip
5. Reboot system and let lollipop boot up
6. Goto settings > Battery > from menu SHIELD Power Control > Change Processor Mode from Optimized to Max Performance
7. Goto settings > Security > Check Unknown sources
8. Download and Install Seeder by LCIS from Play Store, check all options and run on moderate -link - https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...s.seeder&hl=en
9. from Play Store download Remount by Stephen and remount sdcard1 as rw -link- https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....remount&hl=en
or follow these steps by SuperPichu (see the lockked bootlader section) -link- http://forum.xda-developers.com/shie...lipop-t2946250
10. Reboot and Magic!
Hope this helps!

You can get the recovery images from nVidia here: https://developer.nvidia.com/develop4shield Make sure you get the tablet rom, I almost flashed the portable one lol. Only thing that sucks is you have to register as a developer and it took about 2 days until I was "approved".
Here's a step by step guide if you get hung up.. http://youtu.be/GsMo1tPlIFU?list=LL2pdV4KBs4sNR6r1zpwr-cQ but really just have adb installed and run the batch file that comes with it.
After spending maybe a week on Lollipop tho, I seriously couldn't be happier on Kitkat. Xposed for the win! Lollipops biggest qwirk has to be the pull down, no idea why it's not split like Kitkat. That and weird slow downs.

After a lot of research i downloaded the OTA 1.2.1 update from here, and i used the batch file too and then i realized i could just restore my backup file without any problem hehe, so i have a backup from lollipop and one of kitkat.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Tablets/NVIDIA/NVIDIA-SHIELD-Tablet-LTE-US-Firmware-121.shtml
Lollipop is all the oppose to what android means to us, has a fresh look but doesnt worth it, i updated just because of the battery issues in kitkat, i guess lollipop is getting very qwirk because the devices are getting more powerful in gaming and multitasking so they are a more relevant market so cant have all freedom to modify and change the firmware..

Newest OTA.... is the lag over?

Should I bother updating?

I updated with theOTA from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/android-5-1-t3115536 just download the ota and supersu from that link and flash the OTA first then supersu and your done. I didnt even lose recovery after i flashed these!
Oh yeah and I used google sheets and docs for 4 hours this morning without a single freeze or crash normally i would've had at least 10 during that time. So yes its def. worth it.
So far.... I installed about 3 hours after release, it's much much smoother. Only once have I gotten the "what the frig is this thing doing" hang and sputter, while installing busy box. Colors are great. It's like flashing a new screen. Xposed super alpha for 5.1 working. Gravity box works, flat style colored bars works.
Now just waiting for custom kernels....
Depends. Update 3.0 has these issues:
1- Apps optimization on every reboot. (rebooting takes 5 or more minutes)
2- USB OTG not working (tried usb flash drives and nothing)
3- Controller not turning off when button pressed (by design)
I was on 5.0.1 rooted, I wiped everything, flashed 5.1 and rooted again, if you are wondering.

Something may have gone wrong. I've only had the optimization come up if I clear cache or install apps via recovery so far... And I've been trying to get it to crash at reboot....
Judging from the responses in this thread, it looks like it's finally time for me to unlock my bootloader and update from 4.4. Wish me luck, guys!

I've had it come up on several reboots. Many people report it too on the official Nvidia forums.
But the USB OTG thing did it, Im staying on 2.2.1 until a hotfix is released.
I stand corrected, =x I have 2 apps optimizing at boot.
No problems here
I installed ota 3.0 from twrp after wiping everything including internal memory and I have no problems....
No app optimizations after every reboot or havent encountered any lags or sound glitches + wifi performance is much better and no issues with hdmi or usb otg either, played half life 2 for like 2.5 hours straight and had no issues even for a second...
Don't now what happened with the people who are having problems with this update. I have 32gb lte version and the tab performance is perfect now, for me atleast.
So i would suggest wiping everything except external sdcard and flashing full rom + latest supersu
USB OTG is working for me. I can use my 8GB drive.
I also have the Apps optimizing at every boot bug. 189 of them nonetheless... So the wait is huge.
Full OTA dirty flash over previous 2.2.1, dalvik/cache wipe. I hope for a fix soon.
Wipe everything then install full rom, i am pretty sure u wont get apps optimizing every boot. For me after the update the boot cycles are the fastest yet and I also do have around 180 apps...

I paid less than $10 US dollars for this phone and rooting it isn't high on my priority list, however rooting the damn thing has presented a bit of a challenge.

Hey so i spent forever trying ro find a root that would work on this. Or a custom ROM anything really. Try going into McAfee Security, setting up an account, go to settings and disable the lock down device option. That was the problem for me at least McAfee was blocking any root from installing. From there i rooted my lucky with kingroot one click root. Hope this helps!
The Easiest Way To Root Your LG Lucky Without a PC
Easy way to install SuperSU on your LG Lucky
Just follow directions
Use KingRoot 4.5.0 app - google KingRoot apk all versions. Download and install apk.
Google replace kingroot with supersu. There will be a few sites popup, Mediafire is where the original .zip file is hosted. You can even search "how to replace/remove kingroot with supersu" here on XDA for more info.
Once you have downloaded the .zip file be sure to extract it to your INTERNAL sd, the script in the zip will not work from your external sd.
Open the extracted file and copy the mrw file to the internal storage, the path should look like /storage/emulated/0/mrw.
Now go to the play store, download and install Terminal Emulator. I use the one by Jack Palevich as it is only 551kb and easy to use.
Open the terminal emulator and type "su" in order to grant super user permission to the emulator,
On the next line type "/system/bin/sh - /storage/emulated/0/mrw/root.sh" and press enter.
Now the script will run and open up SuperSU automatically. Install binary when prompted with the "normal" option. Choose yes when it asks if you want to delete other superuser apps. (this removes kingroot).
Before rebooting phone, go into the settings of SuperSU and enable pro mode, change icon if you wish, enable survival mode, enable su during boot. I think you have to restart app at this point, can't remember as I did this months ago. Then restart the SuperSU app, go back into settings to Install SuperSU into system. Reboot phone,
When phone reboots, this is when Kingroot is finally uninstalled. Your phone will still be rooted with SuperSU. At this point you may wish to update SuperSU as this is version 2.46 and the newest version is 2.71 Beta. You can get the newest version of SuperSU from the thread here on XDA.
(thanks MrWolf for the script to make the change and thank you Chainfire for SuperSU, FlashFire, CF.lumen, etc...)
LGL-16C successfully (so far) rooted using Kingoroot.exe (latest version). Had to change from mtp to camera on USB then was recognized. Hi. Could you tell me how you installed supersu after rooting with kingroot? Thanks
Well I have root and supersu installed but it won't update binary. Any help out there? Thanks
Hey everybody. I did it!! Just root with kingroot 4.5 and replace kinguser with super sume. Worked great. All kingroot stuff is gone!! Ive rebooted 3 times to make sure and all is good.
Well if anyone is interested in looking at the source code, lg support has downloads available for nearly every phone they've ever made.
http://opensource.lge.com/osList/list?m=Mc001&s=Sc002
The file for the LGL16C is on page 2. Every thing seems to be listed alphabetically so it's easy to locate.
I still have my lucky and actually use it often although I no longer have it activated.
@ cecnwv,
Thanks for the link. Using Ares 11 and got "IP banned for 6 hours, try again later" after dbl tppng yellow icon. I did something wrong. Not at my PC. (unfortunately)
Thanks for any enlightenment,

Has anyone made a complete backup of their system apps using Titanium Backup? Being that one can't use fastboot/download mode (this phone has it locked out and a special USB cable is required) so my backup options were limited. I thought I did a full backup with Titanium Backup, but apparently lost it as I only found a small partial one on my PC.
Issue is I had uninstalled some bloatware and integrated updates for a few apps. But after factory resetting the phone it is behaving a bit odd. The notification bar doesn't really work anymore (apps still able to use sound/vibration to make a notification, but nothing appears in the notification bar) and I am unable to call the phone because it never rings and it immediately goes to voice mail. So the phone app is borked too.
Plus soft button to the right of the home button (I forget what it's called) doesn't bring up the app history anymore so I can't close background apps. (the volume buttons also don't really do anything anymore. Normally using them causes the volume bar for ringtone to appear and if using a media app, the volume bar for media audio comes up instead. But now nothing happens).
The phone is in a pretty broken state and even doing app updates from Play Store doesn't work anymore. Was gonna try and look around if someone has some app/data backup of the system apps installed. This is a TracFone branded phone and is currently running Android 4.4.2 (Kernel version 3.4.0+). Which is the last Android update they made for this phone.
Perhaps there's a single service/app that is responsible for notifications/volume bar that is borked. But I have no idea which system app is broken so a full app restore is my next best option.
The first thing wrong I noticed after resetting it was that the intial setup screen would return everytime I rebooted the phone. (only way i could get that to stop was freezing it in Titanium Backup). So maybe related to that app somehow. I don't recall ever uninstalling/merging update data for that perticular app though so it's probably a side effect of a different app going haywire.
EDIT:
Ok looks like I resolved the issue. I just removed the LGStartupWizard.apk then did a factory reset via Volume Down+Power button combo. It boots straight to home menu now and everything works. I guess the LG setup wizard thing got borked somehow. No more setup wizard but verious things like google account and whatnot can be configured manually via settings so no real loss.
All the missing things like the app history button, lock screen, notification bar, etc are now working as a result of resetting after removing LGSetupWizard.apk.

Awesome, this worked for me too, though the issue wasn't exactly the same. When I got the phone it had already been rooted with Kingo at some point and I noticed after resetting it that I had similar problems (it may have had the issues before the factory reset too, I just didn't notice one way or the other). Anyway, I was getting slightly different misbehavior. No recents key, yes, but also no response from the Home key. Pull-down notifications bar was mostly working, but with no visible notifications and I couldn't press the Setup "gear" in top right. My volume buttons and Play Store were fine, though, but I'd noticed that when I tried further factory resets (from the menu, not via hard reset) that it wasn't "really" resetting, as any downloaded files/etc. remained on the phone. I'd tried freezing LGSetupWizard already, but as you noted, that doesn't fix it for whatever reason. Deleting altogether does. Yay. I do wonder what the hell is happening during the root or reset that triggers this problem, though. It behaves as if Setup Wizard was just never completed, so you remain "locked out" of most of the same functions that are unavailable during setup normally. Oh well.
Anyway, as old ten-dollars-or-less type phones go, this isn't the worst I've ever used by a long shot. Heck, it's arguably better than a few other slightly bigger/newer/pricier crap-phones out there! (Looking at you, ZTE Legacy/Quest...) FWIW, I had "ripped" all of the APKs from /system/app and /priv-app for some reason back when I first got this thing, so if they'd be of use to anyone I'll be happy to upload all or individual files. Hell, if anyone can tell me how to do a full ROM dump I'd be happy to do that too, because there's definitely still no official stock image available online that I could find a trace of. (Granted, I don't know if there'd be any way to utilize a non-official backup image anyway or turn it into a flashable KDZ, but that's not my point...)
Thank you, I got my lucky rooted! I'm wondering if anyone ever found any custom ROMs or recoveries for this device. It seems like this was never popular for any of that, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.
