So this app can tell that I have a modified phone by stating that it does not work with a security tampered phone. How does it know this and what can I do? Any ideas?! Thanks!

It apparently runs a check to see if you are rooted. Try downloading OTA Rootkeeper from the play store. It has the ability to temporarily unroot your phone. I have used it to get flixster to run after it refused to run after it found root on my phone.

Someone on XDA posted a version where they removed the security check. It works on rooted phones, and non-supported devices. A search should turn up the link. Be aware, however, that the video is downrezzed (by Directv, not the hack) and looks like garbage on any screen with decent resolution

is it down rezzed cause the security bypass/altering of the app or the directv app in general is poor quality video?

DirecTV downrezzes it. Possibly to save space, or some other reason, but it's not a result of the hack. It's a compression thing

[DEV][APP] Netflix Updated 03-28-11

For those who haven't seen the news that the Netflix apk was taken from the LG Revolution system dump I thought I'd provide the apk for anyone wanting it.
I'm assuming this isn't a violation in anyway, but if so I apologize.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/03/1...cation-pulled-from-lg-revolution-system-dump/
For those wishing to follow the development of this app on a general Android level I'll include the appropriate thread. Also I will try to provide updates as they come along, but if someone else catches it first let me know and I'll change the OP accordingly.
UPDATE (03-15-11): Now included is the DRM apk found within the LG Revolution. Credit given to cheebahawk over on the EVO forum. Also it is very likely this this will be a no-go given the DRM issue, but I have confidence that those who want this will try their hardest.
UPDATE (03-24-11): Attached is the new apk (com.netflix.mediaclient-2.apk) that auto-updated and included streaming on 03-23-11. However, Netflix has since shutdown streaming again. The attached files may still be useful.
UPDATE (03-27-11): Netflix has since completed shutdown access to their system from the Android app. Users are no longer able to access any functions of Netflix service.
UPDATE (03-28-11): Netflix has turned the service back on, so back functions have been restored. However, streaming is still a no-go.
Thanks man. Too bad we can't stream anything yet. The guys in the Evo thread have been trying to fix this problem and I hope they do.

Mainly just the ability to edit your Instant Queue. Also once Netflix has the service up it "should" stream
Cant Wait for this! Should Be on the Thunderbolt as well if I remember correctly

From my understanding of all that has been said about the Netflix app and what Netflix has said in the past, it requires a phone with a chip that has DRM baked in, so the chip in the Incredible and Evo isn't new enough and will not work unless they hack the app and bypass the DRM requirement. (Which begs the question of whether the phone can manage the DRM via software and keep up)

Mine works minus the streaming which is understand. I can view and search and edit my queue however. If I attempt to stream it says it could not contact the service and kicks me out to the main screen.
When I use it (streaming), it just loads, and loads, and loads.... no error anymore, it did at first, but now it just loads forever....

Any word on an update on this? I think its netflix side on this based off the not able to receive info from server error and the netflix site saying Android (obsolete) under list of devices. Once the service goes live I think it should work.

LogMeIn

Has anyone noticed that the stock G2x comes with some LogMeIn packages(com.logmein.rescue and com.logmein.rescuesecurity) already installed? Anyone know what they are there for? I've yet to see anywhere that I could make use of them, which makes me wonder if they're there for LG or other companies to gain access for whatever reason.

Okay, so T-Mobile is including Logmein Rescue so they can access your machine for support. Personally, I backed it up and deleted it with Titanium Backup. No need for that crap. Everything is working fine.
The two apps are:

com.logmein.rescuesecurity 6.3.246
Thanks, I just froze them using titanium backup.

I removed them the first day I got the phone. Just use Root Explorer to delete them. I didn't like the sound of it either.
There is a thread about which apps you can delete, like the Tmobile crap, EA Store, games, etc. I posted what the app name was compared to the store and what I deleted without any recourse.
I removed a dozen probably.

URL associations with apps removed from ALL thunderbolt, possibly all HTC phones soon

This is a widespread issue among thunderbolt users, but I haven't seen a thread here yet.
I haven't accepted the OTA update from earlier this week, but last night my phone booted with what I assume was a update. Now, any URL can only be directed to the Web browser, not an individual app (for example, Google play links link to the play website, not the app. Same with youtube links). There's not too much out there about it, but from what I've seen, this is due to a new patent lawsuit from apple directed at HTC. Apparently HTC laid down and just removed the function. This is terrible and pretty much ruins the phones functionality.
As of right now the only work around I've heard of is custom roms. Personally I don't have that option as this is a corporate phone. Has anyone heard anything or does anyone have any ideas for a work around? I imagine what would work would be a fake "browser" that you would set as the default and just would reroute to apps, but I certainly don't have the developing know-how to make such a thing.

With the HTC One series, there's a new "App Associations" menu that allows you to assign what apps will be used for various link types... is there no equivalent in the new OTA update for the Thunderbolt?
After the update there is that setting in the applications menu under settings
Sent from my HTC Mecha using XDA
This is frustrating.
I updated to the software update and regret it to the fullest extent. Now NO videos of Youtube open in the app. This is a headache.
There is a new "apps association" menu in settings now, under Applications menu. But there is NO option to set YOUTUBE as a default like it used to be with ease.
Anybody here have a way around this??
What I found is using Opera Mini helps this by making it one less step to open videos in the app. But still miss the old direct way.
Help people!!
This is due to the patent judgment against HTC by Apple. The same judgment that recently delayed the release of the One X and the EVO 4G LTE. This feature will be removed in all future HTC releases.

You can't. Apple patented the tech, all they will do is go after a new developer of such an app. Your best bet is to root, run titanium backup, and flash a custom rom that is based on an older Thunderbolt ROM if you want the feature back.

That's not exactly some HTC key/core feature. It's in every Android phone and part of the Android source itself. Even the Galaxy Nexus does it. It's not even a phone specific feature. PCs have done it for years using file://some-local-filesystem-point and using sockets to link apps to other apps. That's all Android does pretty much. Since everyone should be rooted on here (the thunderbolt is painful if you don't), it doesn't affect anyone.
Also I see no source links in your post. Means nothing if you can't link to something verifiable.

Google have blocked access to it in 4.4 so the built-in app is no longer available.
Coming from CM10.2 I was hoping to at least be able to use this with my N5, but alas it's not so .

I downgraded my N4 back to 4.3. Disabling app ops is terrible. Even apple has this feature: iOS alerts you if any app wants to access your contacts, or your photos, or your camera, and you have a choice to allow or not. Android 4.3 does not alert you, but at least you have the option to dig into the App Ops and revoke access to certain things. 4.4 is the first time an android upgrade dissapointed me (they destroyed the alarm app, the keyboard, the wifi indicator's activity/internet access, and App Ops).
App ops was never an official feature, so they technically didn't remove anything.

I'm with you on the users defending Google like the can do no wrong, but definitely disagree about the YouTube g+ integration... They needed to clean YouTube up, and now I can see friend's comments on videos more easily and only view the comments and responses of certain people... That was a good idea..
I think Google is completely wrong by blocking this app ops function, if that's what happened here...

[Q] Root DRM Trick?

Hello,
I've been helping a friend with her Tab 2 p5110 (Wi-Fi model).
Late last year I rooted it and installed CyanogenMod (10.1.3 Stable).
It's much better than the bloated original rom, however one of her primary uses of the tablet was to watch TV shows from catch-up apps, now of which at least one isn't working.
It's Plus7 - that of the Seven Network in Australia.
It says something about it not being able to work on rooted or modified devices for copyright reasons.
I may not have searched enough or properly, but I was wondering if there's any way you can trick the app into believing it's using the original firmware, or has the rights restrictions it requires to work properly, on a rooted device?
I would hate to have go back to the Samslow rom...
Many thanks,
Tom
