Could people please test 5Ghz WiFi on Stock JB - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just realised that 5Ghz WiFi seems to be not working on the new JB Rom.
All stock, no hacks.

Works for me. Stock Singapore rom.
Asus 5g connected. Asus 2.4 saved.

Some people have reported the same issue in the main JB released thread. Seems for a few people doing full wipes and re flashing has cured it, for others nothing has.

In that case could people post their experience in this thread so we can try to identify a fix.
I'm UK tab, all stock, from ICS all stock, no wipe no 5ghz...everything else fine.

So did you actually try what nutley posted?

Difficult for me to do a full wipe at the moment, probably not before weekend.
Doesn't stop other people giving their observations.

In my case the device stopped seeing 5ghz access points after flashing from stock ICS to stock JB signapore rom. Several full wipes and reflashing did not fix the problem.
Flashing the JB eRobot rom fixes the issue. Flashing back to stock JB, and the problem occurs again. I have found no solution yet.

Anyone else?

Wipe and reflash achieved nothing unfortunately.

What did you wipe, and process?
Did you;
1. Flash stock JB
2. Format system
3. Factory reset
4. Wipe cache and dalvik
5. Re-flash JB

What about
6. Factory Reset after 1-5
7. Try another router
8. Ensure router uses/transmit 5 GHz only (disable 2.4 GHz)
9. Temp disable router security and test
10. Save/backup and upgrade router firmware

Already tried multiple reset variants and two different manufacturers routers that I know are both working on 5ghz as my SGS2's see them quite happily.
The simple fact is 5ghz is not working using stock JB on my UK tab, even after resets, wipes and pretty much all variants thereof. My guess is that there's a subtle difference between the UK hardware and Singapore variant hardware, could be due to emmision limits and set during manufacture as a hardware jumper or firmware mod (firmware for specific component). 5ghz worked fine on ICS so it's definitely a change issue.
Sent from my GT-P6800 using xda app-developers app

We know that. We also know it's not SGS2, so don't compare apples and oranges.....
We also know it's more than likely a firmware issue....
Edit: but could be a firmware/router combination issue too (otherwise nobody with P6800 JB 4.1.2 would have it working)....
Did you try the rest of the recommendations 8, 9, 10?
Why not, and report back for the benefit of others?
That would be constructive

Had two 7.7s. After upgrade to jb of both only one had working 5GHz. No amount of wiping helped on the other. Had to restore a nandroid from the working one onto the nonworking one. Successful, with 5GHz reception on both devices. While the root cause remains unknown it is clearly a software issue.

Issues as usual
So we wanted to keep up to date, this is what happens for trying, I flashed my 7.7 (p6800) with firmware P6800DXMD3 vietnam, I never considered 5GHZ networks would stop working on jellybean. I doubt there is a simple fix anyone? I'll just live with 2.4ghz because 5ghz seems to operate similarly when I've tested it.
I did find another posting from mobility.forumsee about the note.
Samsung - Galaxy Note Wifi 5GHz Issue fix for Hong Kong
Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General - xda-developers
" If you have recently upgraded to ICS and cannot connect or see your router's 5GHz SSID, it is because Samsung used Taiwan legal channels for HK as well, You should set your router's 5GHz channle to 56, you will then see and be able to connect to your router's 5GHz channel."
Would that suggest that Vietnam and other Asian countries use different wifi channels, currently on my dual band router for 5ghz, I have 36, 40, 44, 48, I'm not sure but I tried changing the router through all the channels and none of the 5 channels are detected by the 7.7, It shows fine on other devices like the galaxy tab plus, I'm unsure which country was used on that version.

Sounds plausible/probable.
I suppose that's why it's DXMD3, meant for SE Asia, rather than XX (international).
Know idea idea why Samsung SE Asia would 'restrict' they firmware drivers though...

First I thought the issue could be caused by the choice of channels, too. But apps like "Wifi Analyzer" show in my case, that 5ghz is disabled completely on stock JB, not just some channels.

Logic says that it has to be something to do with the router....
If some have 5 GHz band working, THEN IT MUST WORK with certain routers and channels. Still, the OP has not reported any further testing like I suggested in previous posts, just to rule out any conflict between HIS 2.4/5.0 router bands, security and JB.
Users need to be more specific in their posts; router model, router bands enabled/disabled, security enabled/disabled etc etc.

I thought the same in the beginning. But at least in my case the issue is independent of any router.
On eRobot JB rom the app Wifi Analyzer gives me the option to scan at 2.4ghz or at 5ghz (and gives proper results in both cases).
On stock JB rom Wifi Analyzer only gives me the option to scan at 2.4ghz. So the app sees hardware that is not capable working on 5ghz at all and does not even give the option to scan at 5ghz.
On first sight it seems to me that it has something to do with the wifi driver. Looks like the wifi chip is not initialized correctly, or that 5ghz capability is disabled at a later point. But I don't know how this all fits together, especially given that for some users 5ghz on stock JB is working flawlessly.
(In this context I find the case of the user with two tab 7.7s interesting. One worked on 5ghz after flashing stock JB, the other one not. Then after simply copying the system from the working one to the other one via nandroid, both worked.)

Devs please help with the WiFi error.

First of all sorry to make another thread for the WiFi error.
There are so many users who have had this WiFi error since months. Wifix, flashing the boot image, replacing WPA supplicant file, and other lib files in system/lib/modules, using various kernels, various radio and ril, flashing stock ics, gb(not personally but I've read in the forum), s-on and back to s-off, jelly bean Rom, aokp Rom, sense based Roms, miui also and I don't even remember what all I've tried but WiFi doesn't work. Shows turning on and error.
Was using ordroid and viper s roms, didn't have the problem initially but while using viper s Rom, in say about a fortnight the WiFi error came up. Now I'm using micro sense lightning v1.1.4 radio 11.76 a....... Kernel yank, Sebastian, bricked, faux. Nothing works.
Devs please help us out with this WiFi error.
There are so many users with this problem. I request all the devs to look into this issue seriously. I know u guys must be trying hard to get this fixed.
Thanks for all the mods and roms so far. I appreciate ur effort as we all can all enjoy smooth and expanded power of our HTC sensation.

I'm pretty sure there are multiple threads about this elsewhere, and i think this is the wrong section for this...
But on a side note...
I picked up a sensation 4g for $140 a few days ago. It was missing the ring around the camera window and the volume buttons. Just needs a new back. Originally it had gb and i did the ota update to ics. I had wifi errors constantly before and after the ota. Since s=off and flashing roms, the problem has persisted. Last night i decided to figure it out... Basically, sense 4 roms had working wifi but i got errors with wifi tethering. Pyromod ended up being my ROM of choice. After bending the wifi contacts on the phone itself, out a bit, and scratching the matching contacts on the battery cover... Viola! Working tether! And no wifi errors. While sense 4 wifi tethering still doesn't work (unless stated otherwise in the op), wifi errors seem to have been eradicated.
I wonder how many of us have just taken the back off so many times that the wifi contact points just don't complete the circuit well enough.
Good luck with your search for a fix...

No your post is in the right place Ive had that same problem in the past I would like to know what kernel are you using and what is it clock speed fyi if you are clocked at oh let's say 1.8 or 1.9 then thats your problem some devices can handle the over clocked speeds and it is a fact that some devices can't the first problem they encounter is the WiFi issues try reducing your clock speed down to oh 1.3 and that will also save on battery as well

couldn't flash RUU but did flash the rom from the RUU in the temp folder in my pc.
Will try here too
I'm not sure if my problem is a hardware failure or a software problem. 3 weeks after I got this phone, it got water damaged. Full of water! I took out the battery, letted it dry for some hours and turned it on. Everything worked! Only thing to see from the water, was the spot, that shows if it have got water, was 3/4 red. Everyting went good within a month or so. Then in feburary/march it stopped working (wifi). The same thing for Bluetooth. It's just writing "turns on" wifi or the bluetooth, and after 5-10 minutes it say "error"
The reason why I wonder about if it's a hardware/software failure is, I do not remember if it came within a install of an costum rom or it just happened out of now where
Any sugestions?

I have the same problem and tried this but it doesnt work
I went back to stock completely and flashed full RUU etc ...no joy
Tried flashing the zip from temp folder as well but still no joy
Now Im stuck on S-On as the pin trick is too much effort at the minute to get back to s-off
Had to re-root unlock bootloader again and tried flashing CM10 KANG rom over stock ICS (Europe)
Still no wifi - this has been ongoing for about 2 weeks now - it works for 2 minutes then it drops connection and won't reconnect
This is what I have read over the forum. Let's wait and hope for it to work. It's been months without WiFi. 3g now seems so expensive.

Holy ****. My WiFi just started working. My data was not working because of some problem with the mobile operator so just to check I switched sim card(Vodafone) to idea sim from another state. It was working with idea. So I switched back to Vodafone and data wasn't working. So I went into settings and suddenly saw WiFi on and my home WiFi network was showing. I'm so happy. Hope this keeps working.

To be detailed about it, last night I flashed arhd stock odexed with its stock fw. My bootloader is locked by s-off. So I restored my android backup of lightning Rom last night. But all day WiFi didn't work and to be frank I check my WiFi almost every hour if it works. Now in the eve as mentioned above in the previous post it working. In the evening I dropped my phone taking it out of the pocket as my dog jumped on me as I returned home. And since half wifi works. Wow. Hope something helps others. Try the stock arhd. Might help u. But I still hope devs come up with a solution as I still have a feeling that the problem might occur again.

I was doing this from my desktop PC, originally with IE and was told I was outdated. So, I tried Chrome, was told I was outdated (IE was intentionally outdated as I do not like subsequent versions, but Chrome is up to date).
Each option required updating, and when I hovered over one of the suggested browsers, "download" appeared, and when clicked, I was brought to the browsers' update pages.
I saw no "close" to choose (unless you were talking about mobile version), and closing a PC browser's window did not result in the start of a download.
There is not anything (that I can think of, at the moment), that is worth going through hoops for. I still have my Tytung ROM-based HTC HD2, now at 4.4.2 if I need an fix update. I can wait on the G2, as I am pretty pleased with it (D80110c) out of the box, after rooting it. Will wait for LG's KitKat, as I am, so far, underwhelmed by existing KitKat releases so far.
It could be that LG simply did a great job on their own...

I have TWRP custom recovery installed also, did that possibly prevent me from receiving an OTA update?

And to answer the other guys question, this isnt a OTA, its a release that LG did via the update tool. Kind of like what Samsung did with the tmobile s2 and 4.1.

5th wifi on UK firmware?

So I got my new note 12.2 on Friday (finally traded in my 2014 for it) and rooted it on Saturday. After a misshap with a file mod for external sd permissions I got a lot of failures and had to flash with Odin back to stock. I am US but downloaded the UK firmware from Sammobile since I didn't see the US firmware. After rerooting and doing the sdcard write permission change correctly this time I have notice that the tablet will not see my 5ghz wifi band. Only the 2ghz band is visible. Can anyone with a UK tablet or firmware confirm if this is something specific to the firmware or has anyone who has done the platform.xml mod confirm if they also lost 5ghz bands over wifi? Hopefully I can troubleshoot this without flashing random firmwares to find a fix. As always thanks for any help.

Hopefully I can troubleshoot this without flashing random firmwares to find a fix. As always thanks for any help.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. The UK version of the software you downloaded does not include the 5 GHz wifi. For some reason they do not support it in the UK at this time. Anyways glad to hear you got it fixed already.

Installed it last night. Been running great. Had a few fcs with Nova but after a few boots, seems to have went away. Battery life seems to be as good as any other non sense rom I've tried. I would say even better but it's too early.
Can someone explain the built-in backup and does it persist gapps across updates? Also, is there an ota update?
Only real thing I've missed, and it's a minor thing, is the location qs tile only toggles on/off and not off/battery saving/high accuracy.

I actually switched to this rom because of heat. For the last couple of weeks, any gps use or data use would cause a noticeable increase in heat. I also kept running into -mah while phone was plugged in. Switched to this rom and so far, those issues haven't happened.
I was going to try a different kernel because it didn't have things like uc to 81000, some of the other governors, etc but I've actually been pleasantly surprised by how the included one has performed.
I'm also getting the quickest gps lock that I can remember. Hopefully this rom will continue to be updated.

Don't see the option. No biggie, just not a fan of included one.
Other than that though, this rom has been rocking pretty darn good. Surprised not more buzz about it in the thread. Didn't think I'd be pulled away from aicp but I'm hooked. Battery life has been superb so far. My heat issues have gone away too. I'm having some wifi speed issues but I think it's more to do with xfinity and this pos modem they 'upgraded' me with.
Any plans on incorporating the new theme engine? Not really sure what the benefits it provides other than being current.

[SOLVED] D838 Not Getting 4G/LTE

My D838 is currently on D83820c-TWN
I am getting 4G/LTE on other phones when I move my simcard.
I have tried different ROMS but still cannot get 4G/LTE
Tried to edit my buildprop before and it caused a bootloop.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I install the D83820c with Lg Tool 2014 with CSE Flash (Factory Reset),and after install works Lte without any Problem.
I am in Austria (Vienna),my Network Operator is HG Three
I tried my sim on a note 3 and i am getting 4G but no luck on my D838.
Currently on D83820c TWN
Any suggestions?
I went back to kitkat D838 10b with LG FlashTool CSE flash, because of the poor battery life of lollipop, but now there is no LTE option in network settings!?! I tried to enable it in the hidden menu, but no success. What else can I try?

don't know if this will help but when I first got 4G I had problems this fixes it for me
Also what happened in hidden menu when you try to change to global/LTE it changes back to what is was on before?
try doing a full reboot when phone turns on put 5457#*838# in to access hidden menu scroll down to network mode and select global + LTE (if that works) next scroll to the top where LTE MULTI BAND test mode is, select it and choose LTE BAND ALL and select yes (this works best for me)
After go into settings and in the network tab select tethering & networks then mobile networks and change GSM / WCDMA preferred to GSM / WCDMA / LTE auto if still not getting 4G (I don't all the time in this settings just every known and again) try changing it to LTE / CDMA this forces 4G on but you do loose signal so if you or someone trys to ring it won't work although I always get 4G when doing this.
I've attached some pictures for reference.
Sometimes LTE / CDMA sticks so I have to reboot and change setting again in hidden menu.
I hope any of this helps if you give more details ill try and help
Thanks for your help mate, I just flashed the SEA version of D83810b over the original firmware for my device, which was 6WT/CHUNGHWA TELECOM_16G(TAIWAN), and now I have 4G option in network settings. However, I can't get LTE to work on my GP2. I will try my sim card on another phone and see if the issue depends on it.
I have kept trying to get my 4G/LTE to work but still can't. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Most probably your operator uses the 800mhz frequency where you live, which our device doesn't support, I have the same issue here. My sim card works perfectly on 4g with an xperia z2, it's just the lack of that frequency in D838 that keeps you from getting LTE.

I got 4G when I first got my D838, with the same operator and simcard. When I updated via OTA, I lost 4G and can't get it back.
I tried my simcard on a note 3 and it got 4G.
I know the D838 is compatible and there is just maybe something wrong with the software after the OTA update that messed up the 4G.

Ok now you made me curious. Actually I haven't tried the 4G when I first got the phone, I just flashed the lollipop firmware and I've never been able to connect with lte, so I thought it depends on the lack of the 800mhz frequency.
If you say you got 4G right out of the box, I would like to know what keeps it from getting it back too.

Maybe you can get the frequency based where you are and what operator you use. Technically the 6th stage optimizes everything for the region

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try to look for my carrier's target operator and country then try this out.
Finally!
After a lot of trials, I finally was able to get 4G on my D838!
This is what I have done:
1. Go to hidden menu > 3845#*838#
2. Select "WCDMA-Only"
3. Select "Modem Settings"
4. Select "Network Mode"
5. Select "Automatic"
6. Yay 4G
I hope this could also help others that faced this problem.
