Looking for App -> Auto turn of 3g once connected on a certain Wifi - Android Apps and Games

Hello Everyone !
Friend of mine live in the middle of no where where 3g/4g signal doesnt work.
He has Wi-Fi tho, but thing is. His cellphone always try to look for a 3 /4g signal at his home and he wakes up with his battery completly drained prematurely.
Im looking for an app that will auto turn off 3g/4g when connected on a certain Wi-Fi and turn it back on when leaving that Wi-FI
We are both using Galaxy S2 X
Thanks guys !

You can do this with Tasker. You can make a profile. I actually just made one for myself after reading your post.
Profile name (name it anything): DataToWifi
State -> Net -> Wifi Connected
Task: Net -> Mobile Data (On)
Closing Task: Net -> Mobile Dat (Off)
So now, when I turn Wifi On (and it connects to the router), it turns off data. When I turn wifi off, it turns data back on.

Cool ! Thanks a lot Scottocs !
But is it also possible that this task ONLY work on ONE certain WiFi (his home wifi)
Because all others WiFi area works correctly with 3g

Yes, you can specify.
I have tasker configured to turn off the lock screen pass code only when connected to my home WiFi. (It also says 'welcome home sir' in an British accent.. lol)

It is sort of confusing, but it's easier to make the tasks before the profile.
I'll give you step-by-step instructions.
Open Tasker
Go to Tasks tab
Click the + button to make a new one - name the first task "DataOff"
Click the + button again
Click the "Net" button
Click "Mobile Data"
Click near the top left of the app (the tasker icon which has a left arrow)
Click it again.
Click the + button to make a new one - name the first task "DataOn"
Click the + button again
Click the "Net" button
Click "Mobile Data"
Change it from "Off" to "On"
Click near the top left of the app (the tasker icon which has a left arrow)
Click it again.
Switch to Profile tab
Click the + button
Name it "WifiToData" (or something else)
Click "State"
Click "Net"
Click "Wifi Connected"
Optional: Type in your SSID
Click near the top left of the app (the tasker icon which has a left arrow)
Choose the "DataOff" Task
Touch and hold your finger on "DataOff" Task in the Profiles tab
Click "Add Exit Task"
Choose the "DataOn" task
Complete!

Llama may be less confusing...

So thanks a lot everyone especially Scottocs for the HUGE help on this.
After scratching my head for about 2-3 hours on this and with Scottocs help I was able to figure out a way for my friend to
Once he enter his house and his phone connect to his Wifi -> Airplane mode ON but leave Wifi ON
and once he disconnect from his Wifi Turn Airplane mode OFF
that was done with
Tasker application and AutoAir
what I did in Tasker was
When Wifi connected -> SSID (wireless connection name)
Load App -> Autoair
(Make sure to go in AutoAir setting and check the box " Start Service on application start up)
and as a Exit Task for this profile
I Simply took Turn Airplane OFF (which mean that once that specific wifi get disconnected turn airplane off)
Hopefully that can help you guys !

GLad you got it working...I think you could have also done it with the secure settings tasker plugin....i believe it has functions to enable/disable airplane mode and then turn wifi back on/off.....
I'm still trying to figure out how to disable pinlock when power any and bluetooth is linked.....I link bluetooth both home and in the car but have not found best option yet. Tasker is very powerful although complex....you should have seen it before the new version that made things "simpler".

[APP] Tasker

I use Tasker for automating a lot of redundant tasks on my phone. I figured I would post a couple I'm using with hope that others will share with me some stuff they use it for.
action: Docked.
Tasks done when docked: Bluetooth on, wifi off, gps on, auto brightness set off [if time < 1800, Display Brightness set to 255 if time < 1800, pandora set on.
exit tasks: Bluetooth off, auto brightness on if TIME < 1800, pandora set off, gps off.
Action open Application Maps/Nav or any gps app.
Tasks done: GPS on
exit tasks done: GPS off.
action: phone face down
Tasks done: airplane mode on if time < 2200, all sounds off except for alarm
exit tasks: airplane mode off, all sounds revert to previous settings.
these 3 i use, if you have any others let me know. If you need help with the program let me know too.
here is where you can grab tasker.
http://tasker.dinglisch.net/
Sounds something that I would definitly use. I beleive its a paid app, but still worth it. I'll look into it. Does it have settings for wifi e.g.- 1 touch WIFI on, because i'm using the stock wifi on/of toggle but I then have to go into wifi settings and actually see my phone connecting to my network in order for i to work and turn on.... ??????
Yeah there are settings for connecting to wifi. Mine does it automatically when I get home based on the gps. Works most of the time, had to turn it on manually a couple times because the gps wasn't on.

How do you set up an OR for the app launch context? I'm trying to get it to turn on GPS when I open Maps, Foursquare, Yelp, or Places, but it doesn't let me multi-select apps and if I add a context, Application isn't there.
Make it separate tasks.
make 1 for each app.
Foursquare - turn on gps. Turn off gps when exit.
Ect.
also, I guess there is a wiki with a bunch of samples I guess. I'm out at a remote beach on northern oahu right now, but if someone doesn't post it before me I'll post the link when I get home.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. It'd just be nice if you could have conditionals in the context. IF Yelp OR Foursquare OR Maps OR Places then ...
Post over there and make a feature request, they should put that in I agree .
Just bought Tasker and so far I like it. Can't seem to figure out how to do the following task though.
I need to set to static IP when on a certain wifi connection. I already have the IP set and the only thing that will need to be done is to toggle the static IP checkbox in the advanced setting of wifi. I know how to specify the wifi network but how can I make it toggle that checkbox/setting?
Thanks for any info.
i made a simple widget to toggle the screen brightness to two preset brightens for inside and direct sunlight.
i could not find an app that let me choose the brightness, they either made it full dark/bright.
i can't work out however to toggle a different widget icon to indicate on/off...
i've tried set icon but with no luck
its not really needed but would be good to have/know for future apps
also, can anyone explain how the HTTP (get info from net) works?
i want to try a few things but not really sure how it works
This app is the best app on the market... hands down. #Win

You should use "wifi near" as a condition instead of "gps". That way it just toggles you wifi on and off periodically and if it is near... it will connect.

I also have a profile that texts my gf a random message at a random time that is between 7:30 am and 7:40 am (so she don't think it's automated lol) every morning. I got that idea from LexusBrian
Again.. great app!
Here was I have got going on with tasker.
Car dock: gps on, bluetooth on, display always on, notification volume off. On exit they all do the opposite.
When home: wifi on. Exit wifi goes off.
At work: phone goes to vibrate for everything.
10pm to 545am: phone goes quiet.
I second it a best app ever. Wifi, gps, and bluetooth are never on when I don't need em. Come on you can't beat that. What a battery saver.

Tasker is an incredibly handy utility.
Here's the profiles I use:
GPSonForLocationApps - I think this one has already been covered by this thread.
WifiOnAtHome - I use the wifi near option... although I think it's causing issues with my 3G signal... it will occasionally turn on wifi to check if I'm at home which seems to turn off 3G. Still playing with this one.
LowVolumeDuringWorkHours - sets various volumes appropriately so I can still hear stuff but doesn't annoy folks working near by. I turn this on/off based on day of week and time of day. Upon exiting this profile it returns my volumes back to normal.
NoficationsOffAtNight - I turn off notifications at night and if my phone is plugged into AC.
SilentForMeetings - if I have a calendar entry where I'm marked as busy it turns my phone to silent mode.
Openwatch?
Hello
I am new to Tasker, and I'm starting to understand exactly how much you can do. Uses open watch a lot and have done a lot of settings to make my clock better. But I wonder if I can get messages from one app to my watch. The app is an ice hockey results service. And each time it becomes a goal, I get it as income message in the status bar. But can I get the message in the clock at the same time? Right now I just get a message in the watch which I've written, but would like it says in the status bar so you do not I pick up the phone to look at the result. Is there perhaps a few codes to enter, instead of my message is? Hope you understand me?
I have mine set to enable WiFi when I connect to a certain cell tower. Keeps the drain on my batter to nothing more than it was already at, and GPS is only enabled for about 5 minutes to and from the house. I'm sure the drain for that combined 10 minutes is much less than periodically checking the GPS or if a network is near.
I am turning off gps when I get to my home cell tower and turning on my wifi at the same time.
For my multimedia apps like pandora, I have my screen stay on when plugged to a power source.

In Settings under the WiFi, click on More and there's an "Airplane Mode" try that.
Or try Auto Airplane Mode (this is what I use and it work great)

hit menu (3 dots in top right) when you are in the wifi menu hit andvanced then hit "Keep wifi on during sleep" and change to only when plugged in or never

Wow... wouldn't have found it by myself
Thanks a lot !
I'm noticing the native setting for disableing wifi when sleeping is working poorly. It takes a while to turn it off and then when it restarts the service does not seminar to be able to obtain the IP address and I have to manually turn wifi off and then on again for it to obtain an address. Very strange because the auto airplane app has no such issues.
I have just found out that:
(under GB) "Advanced > Wifi Sleep Policy > when screen turns off"
is NOT the same as
(under ICS) "Advanced > Keep Wi-fi on during sleep > never (increase data usage)"
It is supposedly to be the same thing but it is not.
As osho741 observed, it takes a very long time to turn off and most of the time it just does not.
I think this is one of ICS bug.

Is there any specific reason youd want to turn off the wifi during sleep? In my experience it doesnt drain enough battery to bother turning it off.
In my case with wifi on and a few apps running that uses wifi all the time, the tablet drains around 15-20% over 12h while sleeping.
That gives at least 2.5 days batterylife if you keep it sleeping... I cant imagine you would have to have it turned on (sleeping) longer than that. In that case you could just shut it down completely when youre not using it
you should give juice defender a try. it revolves around battery optimization, but it isn't a task killer, it just lets you make whatever setting you want concerning turning off services like wifi, bluetooth, etc.. its highly customizable, so you can set it to turn the wifi off entirely while its asleep, or to keep it off, while turning on in whatever time increment you set, long enough.
i have mine set so that the wifi turns off and stays off entirely when its in sleep mode, but if i have a online radio app like pandora or 8tracks running, then they override the sleep settings, and keep the wifi on when the screen is off.or, when i use certain apps that don't need internet to run, like kindle or certain games, the wifi automatically turns off and remains off until i close the apps.
i really like it and i think its made a huge difference in battery. Before if used it, my transformer would drain 15-20% percent overnight with the wifi left on. now, it drains maybe 2-4%.
Turning off wifi during sleep makes a huge difference.
It really saves a lot of battery for me.
And juice defender, while it might help, but on my phone, it causes a lot of wakelocks.
You can check this with bbs.

Bluetooth Settings

Somehow I screwed up my Bluetooth settings when I turned it off to save battery life. Now when I go into settings - wireless there is no option to turn in on ( no wireless devices found). I then went into the services area I try to turn it Bluetooth services on but keep getting errors about the dependency services and / or the account for this service is different than the accounts for the dependency services. I tried to correct this by these dependent services do not allow to make changes.
I also tried to open bthprops.cpl but this did not open .
Can someone export out their registry settings from the registry or make recommendations as to what else to try to change this.
Thanks in advance
I can turn mine off as expected, and like you switched it off to save battery, not tested to see how much it saves but still..
Is it still in device manager?
You've probably deactivated your Bluetooth in device manager, so this is what you do. (sorry if you a lady know how but this is for people who don't know)
Right click on 'My Computer'
Click 'Manage'
On the left hand side there will be a tab called 'Device Manager' click it.
Then find Bluetooth and enable it.
I think Bluetooth really needs work on the RT OS, because it's stupidly hard to turn it on and choose different hardware.
Nope, wasn't in the device manager.
Was gone, tried to activate the Bluetooth services, this didn't help.
Not sure how it just disappeared.
Did a reinstall of just the files, without losing my settings . All is good now.
I know that I won't be turning this off.
I wish there were apps that toggled the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth settings , Display brightness etc. It's cumbersome to go into settings and drill around to find these settings all the time. Would be ideal to have this as a tiled feature so it's easily accessible.
Thanks for the suggestions as this issue is now closed.

Agreed, I also wish it was in the charms bar to make it easier. Also there is no easy way of making the sound go to Bluetooth speaker... you can't click devices... which pisses me off.
am I missing out on something?
you can adjust the brightness and wifi settings right from the charms menu and you can even deactivate bluetooth using the airplane mode... what's missing?

How many steps do you need to go through to get to the Bluetooth settings ( I count 4).
Swipe Charm, press settings, press change pc settings, press wireless, then swipe the toggle
I just want a live tile that I can toggle Bluetooth or any other settings that I have to drill down into charms to get at.
Win+i -> Networks -> Airplane Mode. If you don't have a keyboard, the first step becomes Swipe for Charms -> Settings. If you're already on the desktop, the first two steps become "click the WiFi indicator in the system tray".
Don't get me wrong, such rapid-toggle stuff would be cool, but I spend almost all my time on the desktop or within very easy reach of it, and very, very little time needing to switch wireless networks on or off.

[v1.3] Tasker: Screen off=wifi/data off(no traffic+)AutoSync+Night/Reduce CellStandby

Cell Standby Battery Drain:
Hey Guys!!
Maybe some of you know it. The cell standby drains a lot of battery. I live in a mounterial arrea and it's really annoying. So I searched a bit on Google and build a small Tasker "Script" to reduce the draining. I'm using it now for 6 weeks and it's working good! It reduced my cell standby from 35% to 2%.
So what's the magic?
First tasker will turn Airplane Mode (only cell!) on if you don't have signal. Then it'll wait for 5 minutes and check it again. Yes this sounds really simple but it was hard to build it.
I hope I can help you with sharing my experiences!
Screen off=data/wifi off it no traffic (with Night Mode):
Hey Guys, I have been looking for a solution for this problem for quite a while myself. Now I found a good solution to collect the current traffic on all interfaces. I will share a detailed explanation on how to set it up.
First off, what will happen?
If you want tasker to turn Wifi or Mobile Data off when you the turn Screen off normally you have the problem that it will interrupt all downloads. This Profile will try to read the traffic. If the traffic is below 15 kb it will turn wifi or mobile data off. If not it’ll wait until it is below 15kb. Later If you turn your screen on again tasker will activate mobile data and wifi. It'll wifi doesn't connect to a network (in the next 30 seconds) it will turn wifi off.
How does Tasker work? How can I optimize these profiles/tasks for my needs?
First what does tasker do? This is for the people who don't understand tasker. Tasker has 4 tabs (Profiles, Tasks, Scenes and Vars) but I won't talk about Scenes cz I didn't uses it yet. I also won't talk about Vars (variables) cz they are self explaining.
What are Profiles?
Basically profiles contain conditions (for example if display on/off or wifi on/off) and run a task if the condition is true. Example: If display off turn wifi off.
What are Tasks?
A task is something like a list of actions which the phone should do. (for example turn data on/off or run a specific app)
How do the profiles from this thread?
The profile AutoSync (Screen off) runs every 10 minutes while the screen is off. It turns data/wifi on checks for new messages and turns it off. It has a variable called "%SLEEP". It will only run if "%SLEEP" doesn't match "1".
The profiles Display (Data) and Display (Wifi) turns data/wifi on when the user turns the screen on. When the screen is off again it will check traffic for 30 seconds. If the traffic is below 15kb/s it will turn data/wifi off. If not it will wait 2 minutes and check the traffic again for 30 seconds until the traffic is below 15kb/s.
The profile Night (week), Night (weekend) turn the phone into airplane mode and sets the variable "%SLEEP" to "1".
The profile Wifi connected just changes the variable "%CONNECTION to "1" or removes the "1". This is needed for the Display (Wifi) profile.
On my todolist:
You say..
Changelog v1.3:
Added Greenify's hibernate now to both screen off tasks
Changelog v1.2:
Added AutoSync (every 10 minutes if screen is off)
I'm using this profiles on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus and it works very well!!
Feel free to ask me if you have problems! I'll try my best to help you.
These profiles include the greenify hibernate action from its plugin. If you have troubles with it you have to remove and readd it (on both Screen off tasks) cz my plugin is german. (plugin → hibernate)
You need Secure Settings for tasker or it won't work!! I used Secure Settings because Secure Settings can off only the cell radio. Tasker supports it, too. But not for Jelly Bean and I'm using 4.2.2 :/
How to import *.prj.xml files:
Unzip the *.prj.xml file in your Tasker/projects directory and then import it in Tasker by long-clicking the home icon or any of the other tabs. If you don't have the home tab, swipe down from the top in Tasker to show the tabs. (beginner mode must be disabled!)
Thanks for this 8D!
Useful for a beginner like me ^^!
In task screen off, why do you wait for 30 sec's in Action number 5? Also how important is the Stop Task Action? What happens if I don't include it? I mean anyways, the following 'else' won't be executed if the Mobile data turned off by the 'if'.
Just what I looked for, but How can I install your *.zip file to tasker? I just cant install it, any hint? where should I put the zip file?

You have to wait 30 seconds or how long you want to wait cz in action number 2 tasker gets a traffic number from the system. After 30 seconds it gets another. Tasker subtracts the values to get the actual traffic in bytes. So Tasker can look if the traffic is below 15 kb/s. Yes you're right. It's my fault. You don't need the Stop Task Action. It's from the old Script. I forgot to remove it. Thanks for your hint!

Hi RLicher,
Some people had the issue with the maths calculation of CHECKB_WIFI - CHECKA_WIFI. So tasker will set the variables to 0 if they aren't set. (cz wifi is off or something else). And I deleted/merged some Actions.
You can use the version from the other thread if you don't have problems
I'm using this on SGS3 but notice two issue... While listening to Pandora when a song ends the data or wifi will get disabled so the next song cant start. Second wifi or data will not be reenable when the screen is enabled.
For the record i just imported the files within the zip.

First you have to increase the 30 seconds from the two Screen off tasks [A5] because Tasker checks the traffic for 30 seconds. If Pandora loads a song for example in 40 seconds Tasker will disable data and wifi after it has been loaded. So data and wifi are turned off when Pandora tries to play the next song. Increase the value and you should be good.
And for your next issue:
Delete the imported profile and create a new profile:
Name: Whatever
Context: State → Display On
Task: Create a task which enables data and wifi
Exit Task: Screen off

Sorry I didn't read your previous post.
Unzip the *.tsk.xml files to sdcard/Tasker/tasks and the *.prf.xml to sdcard/Tasker/profiles. Then open tasker tap on tasks and hold it until a menu appears. Tap on import and you should see the files. Do this for the profile aswell.
First tasks and then profiles!! Or you'll get an error that tasker couldn't find the the task for the profile.
Thanks just pinched your files and made it turn on when the screen comes on.
My current profiles means that Wifi turns off when i leave the office and stays off until I turn it on again.
If im somewhere with no wifi will my wifi be turned on when my screen is turned on?
Would i need to create another profile which says if wifi is on and not connected to a network after X minutes
then please disable?
If so is that an easy one to create?
Thanks

First yes it will enable wifi.
I solved it with 2 profiles. One changes a variable if wifi is connected or not and the other one is turns wifi on, waits 30 seconds, checks the variable. If my phone is not connected to a wifi it will turn it off.
Do you want my profiles?

It have nothing to do with my profiles and tasks. They only enable connections, check traffic and disable the conncections. Maybe another profile isn't working correctly.
And next time you can edit your post. You don't need to make 3 posts.
Thanks again parthipanramesh, will import these tonight and try
Andy
I am new to tasker and i have been fiddling with it.
How would I add auto sync turns on every 15 minutes when screen is off and auto sync turns on when screen is on to this "script"?

Turn Off Wifi during sleep mode

Hey guys,
I just need to know all the options available in HAM7 in order to switch-off the WI-FI whenever I pressed the lock-button or screen is off or phone in sleep mode?
However, Can anyone tells me how long does the phone needs to enter the "sleep mode" if it's screen timeout is set to 15seconds + all apps are protected "restricted" from (Running in background + Push-notification)?
Thanks

Hey Alex,
Thanks for your help, but i think there is already an option in the Huawei Ascend mate 7 phones for doing such thing but i can't really find it, the reason that i don't need to download any (Battery Saving Programs, that the phone is packed with the same utility too! called "Phone Manager") ,, it was working with me, but seems to be i done something (disable something or protect something "Restricting it") from doing it's normal function that i still don't figure it out what is it!
Thanks for your reply, I've tried this app and i wasn't knew what does "Smart WIFI" means until Now, so i would make it my last choice to download this app again, in case if i didn't find a way to manage it within the phone settings.

Unfortunately, I've the same options on "Never (increase data usage)"
But still the wifi is on, that means either the phone doesn't enter into sleep mode after 2-10mins or more or either it's not the option we're looking for!

Yeah, same here, I tested on 'Never' and I have the same result, so don't worry it's not from your phone, probably it's from the firmware I guess.
You can test the Smart Wi fi option from the Smart Battery Saver app to see if it works.

Yes, I did test the App once again, and it really does what it says PLUS it really makes a difference in battery life better than before!
Great App, I wanna thank you for suggesting this app to me :good:

I'm on b120 also now and wi-fi doesn't turn off during sleep when I leave it to 'never' . But it's not that important, I don't know how much battery will save anyway

As you can see in the following picture it's my settings, without using the app "Smart Battery Saver" suggested by member in previous comments the device couldn't been able to Switch WIFI automatically, unless I use the app provided.
However, the phone was working properly but I don't know what happened to that option later on.
All my apps is restricted from running on background and app notification is restricted too, Sync is switched off. I wonder what eels remained.. lol
I found option to control Wi-Fi in the Viber application settings (you can see this option on the attached screenshot). May be you using something app like this?
And IMHO restrictions working only for automatic memory clearing if it's not enough for active application, but I could be wrong.

I found out if you want wi fi turning off during sleep do this: Go to settings - > WI-FI -> scroll down -> Advanced Settings -> Keep Wi- Fi on during sleep -> Only when plugged in.
I think this was the setting you were looking for. With this setting my wifi disables every time during sleep and reconnects automatic when i turn the screen on.

It seems to be doesn't work, I've tried it just in few minutes, and changed my display screen time-out for 15-seconds to go to sleep quickly, still it doesn't work after several minutes, so my question is for (How long does the phone consume from time to "enter sleep mode/device WI-FI switched Off") with your phone?

I think it must be in sleep mode at least 5 to 10 minutes. If you just turn off the screen and turn back on, the wifi will not disabled. Test it. Let the phone off for 5-10 minutes to have time to enter sleep mode. If you want to disable the wifi immediately every time you turn off the screen, the only solution is that app.
