Hey guys i am back from my holiday!!!!! so here is some help for you which i learned on the way!!
Hey guys i have a funbook p300 and it fell on the road (got a crack on the screnn and the power button broken!!!!) i tried the button remap app but it didn't work ( i tried many other apps including the auto screen on, fix power button and many more...)
The only thing which worked was the app called AWESOME ON OFF
you can get it from playstore- it will help-
You just have to pickup your phone and- voila your phone/tab is on...
good app- will tell you if i find more- (it has both versions- paid and free
:good:
I've been using this app for the broken power button on my Droid RAZR and to lock the screen I use LMT launcher's double swipe down gesture with key = 26(power button). I find the awesome off option a bit of a hassle.
This app causes wakelocks however.
This is awesome, thanks!

So hey guys i found a new app named Gravity Screen. you can download it from playstore. it has a special feature in which when you move your phone to a special angle it will switch off and when moved to a certain angle it will switch on. so those of you out there whose powerbutton is broken and don't have a proximity sensor, this will help you
Yes, its a great app.. I use too due broken power button

You can also use the command "adb shell input keyevent 26" to turn the screen on/off.

So I came across this in the EVO 3D forums. How hard do you think it will be to port this to our device?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346760
It is in development already. See bricked kernel thread for more info.

Anyway to enable this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269247
And gnex has it
Both Bricked and TamCore have this feature.
Bricked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269247
TamCore: http://files.tamcore.eu/android/?dir=tamcore-kernel
Bricked gives you an option to enable it during installation, while TamCore requires you to flash a zip to enable it, which you can get on the same page, under the name "sweep2wake_enable.zip".
A few kernels already have it.
I am already using it...
Already using it on bricked!
It's nice because you don't have to constantly use your power button to turn on device ! I really love it! It's so easy.

Is there any way to make it more efficient when locking the device? I find that it closes the current application and goes to the home screen (as you swipe the back and home keys when locking your device).
This is quite annoying when using an app like gmote when I may need to immediately unlock my phone again to pause/play adjust volume etc, as I find that the app has been terminated when putting the device to sleep.
I really like the idea of not having to mash my power button any more than necessary, so using the sweep to lock would be ideal. I also noticed that even in the demo video of sweep to wake, the menu button gets pressed as the phone is locked (you can see the launcher menu appear for a second before the device locks).
Any suggestions would be appreciated, but I wanted to get some guidance before posting any sort of feature requests in the dev forum.
Thanks guys!

Sometimes it will pull up the power window, it will go back, back out of an app...instead of posting here...post in show-p threads.
It's a good feature, the bricked & faux kernels have it as far as I know!

Brilliant idea! This actually works as desired, and it doesn't seem to activate the home button in the sweep/swipe either. Now I just need to get in the habit of skipping the back key.

There's a thanks button.
However, I don't see how this is practical much. I only lock using sweep because it's a good shortcut to exit current app, go to home & luck.
Hey guys im looking for an app alternative screen on. everytime iwanna turn screen on i need to press power buton (motorols defy mini) is it posible to shake phone and make screen on wiith it? or move it to diferent hsrdware button? like i press foto button annd screen willturn on? i know that exists tap tap but it need proximiti senzor always turned on which drains battery. pls make an app shake to screen on.
i will love u
So, what happens when the phone shakes in your pocket?
even if such an app existed. it would be a battery hog, and wont let the phone sleep.
Press thanks if i helped you!
I think widget locker allows you to use the volume keys instead.
Thanks mate widgetlocker really has option to wake up with any hardware button
p.s: touching thanks button
Hi Nakna,
There will be an app called "smart screen on" made by this developer, ddeleted.
This is another awesome app made by him:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1507131
And you will turn the screen on by weaving ur hand on the sensor...i tested his beta and worked very well. No more power or any other hardware button.
Not sure when it will be uploaded in google play but maybe u would want to PM him...

I don't think theres a other way to unlock honestly...
I DO know theres a way to remap the buttons, so that you would (as example) be able to use the volume buttons for unlocking the screen. But I would have no idea how it actually works, too long ago since I saw it somewhere...
But about your power/unlock button, did it function normally before, or has it been bad since you got the phone?
Maybe there's some dirt or something in the button blocking it partly?

I have the same problem with the power button. It's not your fault, it's just the wrong way the button was made.
I use 2 apps to lock/unlock my phone by shake( and you can also unlock by hand gestures over the sensor- next to the front camera). You can try ShakeMe and you can also try to use Advanced Screen Control. Just install these 2 apps and play with the sensitivity and you'll find the perfect fit.
These 2 apps seem to be the best out of the bunch that you can find on the Play store.
Tell me if they work!

If you root, go to /System/Usr/Keylayout/
Edit Generic.kl file.
Adding 'WAKE' after Volume down and up.
Then go to setting>security>screen lock to none
Maybe some other expert member can figure out how to make this working when enable screen lock.
Sorry my english.

You can have screen lock on and use volume down to unlock:
- With a root access file manager like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer go to /system/usr/keylayout
- Open in text editor file fih_gpio-keys.kl
- Look for key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
- Replace the "VOLUME_DOWN" with "POWER".
- Save and reboot.
This essentially maps your volume down key as a power button. If you need to reduce the volume push volume up then use the on screen slider to set volume

Hi all,

Yes.
- DoubleTap2Wake - slightly higher battery drain
- Proximity sensor wake - slight battery drain
- Volume button wake - no battery drain
The problem with "Volume Button Wake" solution is that it doesnt lock. And yes, you can use DoubleTapStatusBar, but its difficult to lock without looking and you have to be very precise.
Thank you, I must have rooted my telephone for use these applications? sorry for my ignorance

Greenify users can activate the hibernation+lock solution using the Google Search-like swipe up from the navbar. Works like a charm and you don't have to rely on xposed.

You can always download a Screen Off app from the app store, and use a custom launcher to bind it to a gesture (swipe up/down, double tap)
Smart launcher got double tap to sleep option, i love it.
I use Power widget to screen locking and voulme key to wake (xposed).
Hello, i was recently experimenting with this Project: https://github.com/epeterson320/flashlight
In android studio. Its a flashlight app with no ui you just tap the icon and the flashlight activates, however i added an intent filter to the android manifest allowing the app to be launched with the "Jump to camera" gesture, this allows you to toggle the flashlight on and off with a double tap of the power button even when the screen is locked.
Instructions
Download and install
Lock phone and double tap power button
Enter your PIN or fingerprint
Select flashlight as default app
This will only work on phones that have the "Jump to camera" gesture. For example Nexus and Pixel phones, OnePlus phones and probably more. It will also replace the camera shortcut obviously. Clear defaults to select camera again.
so yeah hope someone finds this useful
Credit to @epeterson320 for creating the original app.
Download below in attached files
Thank you!!! This is amazing.
Christ this is like the one feature that's a deal breaker for me, Xposed torch is great but not seeing Xposed for android 9 yet; and this works well enough. Great thinking and thank you!
Problem
Hello. I have got a problem. Every time the phone is turned off for a longer period, when i double tap a power button camera turns on instead of flashlight. When I turn off the camera and double tam button again, flashlight works. Have anyone got this problem too? (xz1 compact, 47.2.A.8.24)
Edit: I have found out that when i remove password protection everything works
@James_Ward01 would you be willing to share your source code? I want to see if I can get the app to activate without waking the screen.

The app I have on here for download should work with the screen off as I added both android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA_SECURE
And android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA
Intent filters, the _SECURE one meaning it should work with the screen off. At least this was the case on my Nexus 6p at the time.

It does work with screen off. What I want to accomplish is to keep the screen off when I launch from the lockscreen. I don't want the screen to turn on when I double-press the power button. Maybe this is impossible?

Yes Samsung don't allow the power button to be remapped unfortunately. Glad you found a use for it though.
This works great on the pixel 5, thanks!!
Confirmed, I was using it as well on pixel 5 until now, thanks!
However, new problem :s I couldn't resist trying out Android 12 Beta 3.1 and then no power button access to flashlight anymore.
Same deal for me : Pixel 4a, was using this app daily when I was under Android 11, did the update to Android 12, not working anymore... Sad

Sorry but I'm not sure to understand how your app may help : We're talking about enabling the flashlight using physical button shortcut.
Maybe I missed something but for me that's not what your app is doing, is it ?
Anyway, I'm using Torchie now and it kinda work : You enable it by pressing Vol+ AND Vol- at the same time, but it ONLY work when you're on the lockscreen and the screen is on.
So : "Power" to wake the screen, "Vol+ and Vol- together" to turn the light on or off
If anybody find something better, let us know. For now, this is a little cumbersome but it's working.
The Tap Tap app on GitHub works for flashlight by double tapping the back of the phone.
