Yes.
- DoubleTap2Wake - slightly higher battery drain
- Proximity sensor wake - slight battery drain
- Volume button wake - no battery drain
The problem with "Volume Button Wake" solution is that it doesnt lock. And yes, you can use DoubleTapStatusBar, but its difficult to lock without looking and you have to be very precise.
Thank you, I must have rooted my telephone for use these applications? sorry for my ignorance

Greenify users can activate the hibernation+lock solution using the Google Search-like swipe up from the navbar. Works like a charm and you don't have to rely on xposed.

You can always download a Screen Off app from the app store, and use a custom launcher to bind it to a gesture (swipe up/down, double tap)
Smart launcher got double tap to sleep option, i love it.
I use Power widget to screen locking and voulme key to wake (xposed).

I am in love with the functionality of Slide2Unlock but it seems to eat memory like crazy and cause weird issues on every ROM I have used (WizardG3).
Does anyone have a locking application that requires pressing the power button to activate the screen and then hold the d-pad for a second to unlock?
I can't always be tapping the screen with my finger or taking the time to get the stylus out.
Hi Xoom, sorry I want to ask you a question instead answering your question.
You asked, "Does anyone have a locking application that requires pressing the power button to activate the screen and then hold the d-pad for a second to unlock?"
Does it mean using Slide2Unlock, I could wake the phone from standby only by tapping the screen, without pressing any button?
Thanks.
Hi
Which version of S2U you are referring to? Version 1 or 2? V.2 now only occupy 1MB of RAM.

Currently with slide2unlock (v2) Using the D-Pad you can unlock the phone or you can use the slider on the touch screen, both to bring the phone into an unlocked state (displaying the today screen)
I notice it runs with 1mb of memory. Maybe it's just a scapegoat along with Voicecommand running at 1mb but something is killing the performance on my phone and having it lock up all the time.
I think I just need a new/custom version of wm6.

No, Sorry for the confusion, I have to push the power button then use the d-pad or touch screen to unlock. If it were possible, I don't think I would like that solution, I figure the phone would be getting "touched" in my pocket all the time.

I was thinking maybe only parts of the screen that is "touchable", so it's not always getting "touched" and would save some batt. And even if it's being "touched", it's still locked and it won't do any unwanted action... at least.
I guess, I'm getting paranoid with the button. But someone's confirming it:
"Naturally I set it to the power button, but after a while, that button got worn down and stopped "working" so I naturally set it to recognize any other button.
This experience has taught me the hard way, that its a good choice to have (or maybe even a necessity in some cases) that other buttons to wake the unit up in case of situations like this."
Taken from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315329
I know we could remap the button, however, it is still pushing the button. Eventually, it could wear the button off.
Su2u has a sweet config app translated to most languages, and has a lots of config options, look into that..

This would be one of the main reasons I would root, that and to use some of the good apps that require root, and to theme. But I need volume wake I hate the power button at the top. It really makes no sense lol. It would be great if there was an app for this but if there was it probably would require root. I would rather avoid rooting, since the phone barely needs it! Also I have slide to wake on my GNex and I love it. just swipe from left to right to wake the screen.
The new m8 just got root, and I'd like to see if anyone could fix the issue i have with the hardware key placement. Specifically, the position of the power button annoys me quite a bit. On the old One it was at least accessible through your index finger, but the m8 must have been designed by lefties!
I'm looking for a module that would swap the function of the power key with the vol+ key to see if that will fix my little hangup with this phone. No pun intended.
Thanks!

I'm also not a fan of the power button being switched. At least we can double tap the screen to unlock. Cuts down the usage a bit.

Agreed, but it doesn't help when wanting to lock it quickly with one hand after the phone has already been unlocked. I'm more interested in that function than waking it. But glad to see I'm not alone in this.

I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock in tandem with Nova Launcher and just assign a gesture to it which in turn will turn the screen off and lock. Works great.
I just use gmd gesture control to do a three finger downward swipe to shut the device off.

For my purposes, I'm trying to find a one-handed solution. So 3 fingers is no help when the phone is in-hand. But thanks for sharing your idea!

What I did was use gravitybox > navigation key actions and then set back key long press to go to sleep. Works perfect but I am left handed so you might want a different key.

This is how I do it. Just a single finger swipe upwards shuts my screen off, then a double tap turns it back on. Works great for me!
Now if only someone could figure out how to get double tap (to wake) working in landscape mode.
Hey guys -- I just posted a fresh thread for this, but since I assume you all have weaksauce+xposed working...
After my soft-reboot to install xposed, wifi would not turn on. Did anyone else have anything similar happen?
I did weaksauce, phone off/on, install xposed, full reboot (accidentally), enable xposed, soft reboot, then no wifi when the phone came back up.
Any ideas?
here's a small thing I have seen on many phones that have come out in the past year or so that I was taking for granted would exist on the s7, double tapping on the screen to wake it and view your notifications.
its one of the smallest, yet most useful (I feel), little tricks that will save tons of time.
I was hoping it'd be in the "experimental" features the galaxy labs have to offer but nada.
any ideas about getting it on there and/or a way to feed this back to samsung while they still have time to implement this?
re:

Hi
since 7.0 : you can directly go to any of the lock screen, - shown by : AOD - notifications, by clicking on any.
but if AOD is disabled, than there is no way to see them, SO a Xperia z3 like double tap to wake would be appricated

you mean its implemented in nougat so we're waiting for it?
it'd be great if we didn't have to have AOD to get that considering how simple and awesome of a feature it is...

Its on other devices as well. Samsung doesn't really have it because they have physical button where others don't. But yeah, they all should have it
having physical button solves screen turn on comfortability so, why we need double tap? it's additional drain for battery

Seriously:laugh: I said less than 1% to not say 0% and for me, Double Tap is way more convenient than having to press a home button. And u could always turn double tap feature off if u don't like it, i.e, if there was ever a double tap feature!
A 'touch fingerprint button' to wake up & unlock the screen like other Androids would also be great.

being s7's button physical, it's not able to unlock device from deep sleep, at least samsung won't include it if it's even possible and having 2tap2wake will be nonsense at this point... well i dont say it's bad feature, but i just try to explain that Sammy won't include it until we got rear mounted half-physical sensor
The KnockOn feature that LG has would never be nonsense on any phone. It is more convenient than waking with the home button. With the button you have to push a button in a specific place on the phone. With KnockOn you quickly double tap anywhere on the screen.

I love LG's double tap unlock, it is most useful especially during one hand operation with these humongous 5.5in phones. It eliminates fear of dropping phone trying to reach home or power button with 1hand.
Hello, i was recently experimenting with this Project: https://github.com/epeterson320/flashlight
In android studio. Its a flashlight app with no ui you just tap the icon and the flashlight activates, however i added an intent filter to the android manifest allowing the app to be launched with the "Jump to camera" gesture, this allows you to toggle the flashlight on and off with a double tap of the power button even when the screen is locked.
Instructions
Download and install
Lock phone and double tap power button
Enter your PIN or fingerprint
Select flashlight as default app
This will only work on phones that have the "Jump to camera" gesture. For example Nexus and Pixel phones, OnePlus phones and probably more. It will also replace the camera shortcut obviously. Clear defaults to select camera again.
so yeah hope someone finds this useful
Credit to @epeterson320 for creating the original app.
Download below in attached files
Thank you!!! This is amazing.
Christ this is like the one feature that's a deal breaker for me, Xposed torch is great but not seeing Xposed for android 9 yet; and this works well enough. Great thinking and thank you!
Problem
Hello. I have got a problem. Every time the phone is turned off for a longer period, when i double tap a power button camera turns on instead of flashlight. When I turn off the camera and double tam button again, flashlight works. Have anyone got this problem too? (xz1 compact, 47.2.A.8.24)
Edit: I have found out that when i remove password protection everything works

The app I have on here for download should work with the screen off as I added both android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA_SECURE
And android.media.action.STILL_IMAGE_CAMERA
Intent filters, the _SECURE one meaning it should work with the screen off. At least this was the case on my Nexus 6p at the time.

It does work with screen off. What I want to accomplish is to keep the screen off when I launch from the lockscreen. I don't want the screen to turn on when I double-press the power button. Maybe this is impossible?

Yes Samsung don't allow the power button to be remapped unfortunately. Glad you found a use for it though.
This works great on the pixel 5, thanks!!
Confirmed, I was using it as well on pixel 5 until now, thanks!
However, new problem :s I couldn't resist trying out Android 12 Beta 3.1 and then no power button access to flashlight anymore.
Same deal for me : Pixel 4a, was using this app daily when I was under Android 11, did the update to Android 12, not working anymore... Sad

Sorry but I'm not sure to understand how your app may help : We're talking about enabling the flashlight using physical button shortcut.
Maybe I missed something but for me that's not what your app is doing, is it ?
Anyway, I'm using Torchie now and it kinda work : You enable it by pressing Vol+ AND Vol- at the same time, but it ONLY work when you're on the lockscreen and the screen is on.
So : "Power" to wake the screen, "Vol+ and Vol- together" to turn the light on or off
If anybody find something better, let us know. For now, this is a little cumbersome but it's working.
The Tap Tap app on GitHub works for flashlight by double tapping the back of the phone.
