1. No I don't think USB works in recovery
2. Yes (but not when the device sleeps)
3. Maybe - try it

Thanks! I'll give it a go

3. Yes, it works. You have to go to Settings > Storage and mount the 'external disc', but then I can see the contents of my droid 4 storage just fine.

So it can be done? Because I can't get it to recognise my sgs3. Nor find the 'mount' option under storage.

I found the mount option under storage - it's right at the bottom. But it doesn't do anything when I connect my Nexus 4

Nope. I get a gallery popup that has a Samsung folder, but opening it only triggers thevibration on my phone once. It doesn't see the phone anywhere, not in the settings, notification area nor explorer. Phone sees a USB connection, but only charges the battery.

Hmm, it definitely works for me. I have a rooted Droid 4, it gives the usual "USB debugging Connected"/"Connected as Mass storage" notification when I plug it into the dock USB.
On the tablet it shows up under 'Removable" after I mount it in Settings.
I am using File Explorer HD, don't have the stock file explorer installed, so I can't check that.

[Q] cannot mount usb flash disk on eos 2.0

The first time I bought the USB OTG cable and tried it to mount my flash disk, it worked flawless. But after several weeks and I tried to mount it again, it simply could not be mounted....
I am currently using EOS 2.0 custom rom.
What is the problem?

Are you talking about a usb thumb drive? Are you using any software, like Drive Mount or Stick Mount? My 32gb thumb drive auto mounts. You really have to go into settings/storage to unmount it so you can remove it safely...if you didn't do that earlier, that could be your problem now. If you are trying to mount an HDD, you will probably need one of the apps mentioned (Drive Mount works for me).
Flash the rom again thru recovery. Should work then.

[DEV] Native usb storage otg

Made some progress with USB storage without the use of an app. Setup so far is really simple. Add a line to /system/etc/vold.fstab that looks like this:
dev_mount usbdrive /mnt/usbdrive auto /devices/platform/tegra-ehci.0
Still need work on getting the external storage managed by the system.
WARNING:
This is just a first step and with no way to unmount using Android's storage manager you may corrupt your external storage.

Wow I JUST got my OTG yesterday. Fantastic timing.
what this means... hopefully
As it stands now, adding this line will cause your N7 to automount a usb drive to /usbdrive. You will see "preparing usb storage" in the notification bar and your file explorer of choice will see the data in /usbdrive. Unmounting is an issue at this point. I hope to fix that in a few days when I get the time.

I believe this works on the N7 I am waiting on my cable to test. I realize you want to do it without a app but the syntax should be close.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that CM10 already has USB Storage OTG built into it with the last few nightlies.

Haven't been following the cm10 builds. Still gonna push forward for the exercise.
People who don't run CM10, can use this method. Would be cool if unmount is done.
Guys, quick question as I'm receiving my N7 tonight, the usb stick format can be ntfs? Or only fat32? Thanks
EDIT: saw from other thread, ntfs seems ok as well. i already got the tab and will start unlock and root.

Just wanted to confirm that stickmount works well with the N7.
I have it installed and I've used it on two different usb drives.
A 32GB PNY USB2.0 Flash Drive Stick
And an 8GB uSD card inserted into an elago II USB Reader.
Both worked without any issues.
However, I'm still intrigued by a method to get usb mass storage support natively w/o an app
That does it...I give in! I gotta try the twrp recovery. Feel like I just decided to cheat on my girlfriend.

I saw a post about it somewhere around here. Referenced Amazon.uk, the title was USB otg that work and ones that don't I believe. Google can probably get it. If I wasn't using the app I would hook you up.

Can I ask, does this support NTFS r/w? or r/o.
Everything I've tried, aside from USB OTG Helper--including a CM10 kang rom that claimed to support ntfs OTG--will only mount r/o.
Including the command $ mount -t ntfs /dev/block/sda1 /usbdisk. I guess it's the ntfs driver or something? but it will only mount r/o. Even $ mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/sda1 /usbdisk does not work, it still is ro.

ES File Explorer?
In settings change root directory to /. If it is mounted correctly I guess you should see a folder for the USB stick.
And my usb has no power host....
Im connecting flash drive directly using micro-male to usb-female cable....
And Is there any possibility for usb stick mounting if i upgrade to ics?

you can mount usb stick if you have lapdock.
otherwise your usb isnt powered and will not be able to.
lapdock can even power external hard drive and handle ntfs with an app.
any file explorer will read it, but you need power. buy a powered hub and use that, it should work

i have connected the two power cables of the micro usb-usb female cord to power...
i mean i given a bypass charge to the cable and now which app should i use to make my flash drive seen in my file explorer
If I'm not mistaken, 2.3.x Gingerbread does not have USB Host support built in. That's a function they added into Honeycomb, and is now in Ice Cream Sandwich.

[Q] MicroSD not detected after JB update

I've bought a new TF300T and updated to JB. The problem is that on ICS the MicroSD was detected properly, but it's not after that update. Now after plugging the card Android hangs for a minute and does a hot reboot. The MicroSD (32GB, class 4) card isn't broken. Is there anything I can do to make the tablet work with this card?

Power off, remove sdcard place in computer, reformat sdcard fat32, restore to tab, power on.
If there is anything you want to save from sdcard, copy to computer prior to reformat!
Done few times. Nothing changed. I've even tried another MicroSD card and it also didn't work.

If you are using this sdcard in the tablet, not the dock, I'm lost.
I use a 32 gig in mine full time.
Oh, bad update maybe, it would not be the first.
From http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#download download proper sku and version #. Unzip once and copy to your internal sdcard. You will get an update triangle on status bar. Accept update.
I've bought this tablet without dock. I've also tried that update from Asus (but via fastboot), which also didn't solve the issue.

If you are on 10.4.2.17 I'm lost. Maybe someone else will chime in later. I have noticed more people appear to be on in about three hours.
If I can think of anything else I repost.
Good Luck!
I want to say try cleanrom and see if possibly your sdcard slot is now your issue. I know you used in the past, but things happen.
The reason I chose that rom is most are pleased, it is a single flash and everything I tried worked. It is my standby. I am currently on stock 10.4.2.17 while trying to help someone else. Probably tomorrow back to cleanrom until cm10 gets gps.
Hey,
any update regarding this issue? I have the same problem
THanks
bump.
anyone know a fix? i have two 32gb microSD card. One is class 4 and one is class 10. The class 10 one cannot be read from the tablet, but okay from the dock. The class 4 is okay from both tablet and the dock.....tried formatting the sdcard...no use. help :crying:
AW: [Q] MicroSD not detected after JB update
My Transcent 32 GB Class 10 isn't working either - no matter which format (fat32, exfat, ntfs)
Is there any solution to it?
Wouldn't make much sense buying a 32gb class 10 without being able to use it :-/

A simple software update solved the problem for me.
Besides: is there any way to use the sdcard like one would on a smartphone?
I don't necessarily want to use it as external storage but rather as extended internal storage. Like photos and videos should be saved directly to that sdcard and data of some games should be saved right there as well.
Is that possible?

[Q] Cant read sd-card in TWRP

I flashed TWRP and a new ROM.
everything is working perfectly fine now but the next time i booted into recovery i could not see the sd-card (internal memory) contents. it shows the sd-card folder, but its empty.
what should i do?
TWRP took a little getting used to when I first flashed it. I had to do some playing around with it to find out where everything was. I finally got everything set up right where my zip files on my SD card would show in the box on the right when i would tap on the SD folder.
