[Q] MicroSD not detected after JB update - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've bought a new TF300T and updated to JB. The problem is that on ICS the MicroSD was detected properly, but it's not after that update. Now after plugging the card Android hangs for a minute and does a hot reboot. The MicroSD (32GB, class 4) card isn't broken. Is there anything I can do to make the tablet work with this card?

Anyone?
Done factory reset, nothing has changed and nothing is written in adb about this.

Power off, remove sdcard place in computer, reformat sdcard fat32, restore to tab, power on.
If there is anything you want to save from sdcard, copy to computer prior to reformat!

Done few times. Nothing changed. I've even tried another MicroSD card and it also didn't work.

If you are using this sdcard in the tablet, not the dock, I'm lost.
I use a 32 gig in mine full time.
Oh, bad update maybe, it would not be the first.
From http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#download download proper sku and version #. Unzip once and copy to your internal sdcard. You will get an update triangle on status bar. Accept update.

I've bought this tablet without dock. I've also tried that update from Asus (but via fastboot), which also didn't solve the issue.

If you are on 10.4.2.17 I'm lost. Maybe someone else will chime in later. I have noticed more people appear to be on in about three hours.
If I can think of anything else I repost.
Good Luck!
I want to say try cleanrom and see if possibly your sdcard slot is now your issue. I know you used in the past, but things happen.
The reason I chose that rom is most are pleased, it is a single flash and everything I tried worked. It is my standby. I am currently on stock 10.4.2.17 while trying to help someone else. Probably tomorrow back to cleanrom until cm10 gets gps.

Hey,
any update regarding this issue? I have the same problem
THanks

bump.
anyone know a fix? i have two 32gb microSD card. One is class 4 and one is class 10. The class 10 one cannot be read from the tablet, but okay from the dock. The class 4 is okay from both tablet and the dock.....tried formatting the sdcard...no use. help :crying:

AW: [Q] MicroSD not detected after JB update
My Transcent 32 GB Class 10 isn't working either - no matter which format (fat32, exfat, ntfs)
Is there any solution to it?
Wouldn't make much sense buying a 32gb class 10 without being able to use it :-/

A simple software update solved the problem for me.
Besides: is there any way to use the sdcard like one would on a smartphone?
I don't necessarily want to use it as external storage but rather as extended internal storage. Like photos and videos should be saved directly to that sdcard and data of some games should be saved right there as well.
Is that possible?

[Q] How do I Flash ClockworkMod Recovery after I Razorclaw Root?

This one click method called Razorclaw came out today and I rooted it no problem. The problem is that the stock recovery is still installed and I have no clue how to install Roach2010's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213723) port of CWM Recovery onto my TF. If anyone can post a detailed step by step on how to do that, I will greatly appreciate it. Please and thank you in advance!
In that Razorclw thread look for Gnufabio's Recoveryinstaller app.
It will install cwm recovery
RazorClaw and Gnufabio's Recoveryinstaller app worked perfectly on my new Transformer B80.
Thanks alot but that doesnt seem to be working. just looks like something is flashing then just reboots and i try rebooting into recocery and it just reboots.

Alright thank you for the help. I finally found out I had to press the volume down button then volume up after I did the recovery app.

Makes things a little simpler.
I try and make a backup after following the two steps above, but it errors saying it can't mount /sdcard. Not sure if its referring to the internal memory or my sd card. I have a b70 and have been itching to install a rom since I bought it.

It store the backup to the external micro sd card. If you have one and it can't mount, try to format it again on a PC
I have my sd card formated to exFat to support files over 4 GB, do I have to go back to Fat32?

Yes I believed the tf only recognized fat32 for the micro sd card

BB0 and Root With WW 8.6.5.21 Working Method !

Hi guys,
I now Rooting BB0 with WW Firmware 8.6.5.21: with this method:
1 - Format SD card with 16GB NTFS (I tried this method to format 5 times)
2 - Copy the file and EP101_SDUPDATE.zip WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip on the micro SD and internal memory of the pad. (Actually I do not know which works but when in doubt I copy both)
3 - The pad is started, connected to the PC. Insert the SD card into the slot. The pad recognizes an update. Open this update and wait 10 minutes the installation is done.
4 - restarts the pad, you do not lose your programs and it is up to date.
5 - Copy the file to your RecoveryInstaller.apk Razorclaw_1.0.1.apk and pad to be root.
6.End
This method worked because I have redone 5 times by formatting my micro SD.
I hope this is helpful.

Lot of thanks for this forum and others users !!!!
Hi,
Just trying to follow your procedure.
I'm stuck at the very beginning: I've got a 4Gb microSD (I had in my Blackberry).
How am I supposed to format it?
I think this is the key because it doesn't work!!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Format it on your PC. Best to use a program like SD Formatter.
Thanks mate!
It worked, it was a pain but I am rooted now...
Just about to launch recoveryinstaller.
As I am running a BB0 TF, is it really safe? I've heard nasty things about bootchip for this revision.
Thanks,
Will

Nope, BBO is simply the build date: in hex format, B's value is 11, so build date is 2011.11, or November, 2011

Titanium Backup

I'm having trouble with TB either locking up or rebooting the tablet. It will do this even if its the only non factory program installed. Its doing this about 80% of the time I try to run it. A factory reset makes no difference. Is there a hardware problem that could cause this??
TIA

Have you tried clearing data /Uninstall /reinstall? Are you restoring from a similar device? Maybe an app causing your issues when TB tries to restore it. Definitely not a hardware issue.

I am having issues as well. At first I couldn't get past the "All Done" without it rebooting. Reinstalled it without any differences, but read that clearing Google Play cache would help.
I am finally able to use it for a few minutes but the it freezes and I have to reboot.
I am going to try clearing the cache, data, and reinstall one more time.

Check your µSD Card
I had the same problem with TB, when using my 64 GB microSD for the backup. Once removed and setting the backup to internal storage, everything is fine.
Check your SD Card if you're using it for these backups. My Sandinsk SD Card was so "buggy" i had to send it back to Amazon.

I'm only rooted, and ran TB one time to back things up and had no problem. Never restored or updated backup. When are people having this problem?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I had the same problem. I was backing up to 32GB external microSD. It was formatted NTFS. After I reformatted to FAT32, no issues. I've read about others having issues with NTFS and exFAT.
My SanDisk 32GB class 4 was exFAT, so I tried NTFS but neither played nice with TB. So, now it is FAT32 and finally working. Unfortunately, I can't put large files on the microSDHC card anymore.
In short: either format to FAT32 or move your backup to the internal memory. Either way I also suggest getting PRO and backing up to Dropbox or Box for added protection.

[Q] I just cannot get a JB -> ICS downgrade to go!

OK, I must be totally misunderstanding this. I just can't get a downgrade from JB -> ICS 0.30 to work. Help?
History:
I had issues going from ICS 0.30 to JB OTA as my tablet was encrypted. I did a wipe data, then I was able to get it started on JB
It works fine on JB
I lost root, but /usr/xbin/su is still there without the setuid/setgid bits
To downgrade:
I took the WW SKU recovery file for 9.4.5.30, extracted the inner zip file
Renamed it to EP201_768_SDUPDATE (tried with .zip extension and without)
Put this on the microSD card
Start with PowerOn+VolumeDown
Hit VolumeUp to get the selections.
I see "RCK", Android, USB and Wipe Data options
With RCK selected I hit VolumeUp
The Android appears with the spinny tummy thing, and dies at once.
I did a WipeData and tried again, same result.
What stupid thing am I doing wrong here???
If you DLd the WW, you should be on a WW machine. Are you? If you're on a US machine you download the US version, etc.
I bought mine at Best Buy, thus US. I downloaded the US version, extracted it, copied the inner .ZIP to the microSD, renamed it as mentioned, and then it automagically installed. when I rebooted into recovery and selected RCK with Vol Up.
If it still does not work, might try re-downloading the file again.

It's a UK machine, so it's WW (the working JB I have reports JR003C.WW_epad_10.4.4.16-20120927 as the build.
OK, I'll pull the WW file from ASUS again and compare to what I have.
So one question - rename the extracted with .zip or without .zip?
Thanks!
I renamed it with the .ZIP extension still there. make sure you have Windows set to show file extensions so you're not naming it XXXX.zip.zip with the extra .ZIP at the end.

Yep, name is EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip
I just did a test of the recovery procedure without having the microSD card in at all, and I got the same thing - the RCK option remains available, and I can select it with the same failure.
I wonder if the issue is that the recovery mode isn't seeing the card? It's a 64GB uSDXC formatted with exFAT - it works fine from ICS and JB, but could the recovery code be more stupid and not be able to drive it?
It's making me suspicious that what I thought I was doing upgrading from ICS to JB on an encrypted system wasn't what I actually did at all. If the OTA worked, and it was the Wipe Data I did that got things back, then perhaps I have never ever read anything from that card. I had assumed that Wipe Data would also install the firmware, but I don't think it does.
Is it worth trying a 32GB or smaller card, do you think?
Alan
Absolutely worth it. There is a thread on working and not working cards, and it seems to be the consensus that the 64 GB cards are iffy on the 64 GB models for whatever reason. I have yet to try them.
I do know that my 16 GB card and a pair of 8 GB cards and a 2 GB card I have work flawlessly, formatted FAT32.
You could try formatting that with FAT32 and seeing if it wouold work, but IIRC, only 64GB cards that did work were exFAT....
Take a look in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803084
---------- Post added at 02:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:45 PM ----------
I'm formatting my 2 GB card as NTFS and seeing if it will work in the microSD slot or not - if it will, I may format the 16 GB one with NTFS as well.
I have a feeling, though, that it will not work when in recovery....
---------- Post added at 02:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:46 PM ----------
2 GB formatted as NTFS works in the microSD slot on the tablet.
Thanks, John.
It's a SanDisk 64GB SDHC Class 10. I just went to check that, but the spring on the eject from the tablet shot the thing out across the room and it's now disappeared forever somewhere on the floor or under a chair or in a box of papers or ... (it's been that sort of day!)
I'm going to buy in a 4GB card for Monday to try. The 64GB is fine with ICS and JB, but I'll bet the drivers in recovery mode are different and can't handle it.
Alan
I was thinking along the same lines. You can find a cheap 2 GB if it will help. Not a bad idea to put it in an adapter and stick it in the regular SD Slot in the dock so it is always available....

Not at what we have to pay in the UK for them it's not :crying:
And that was it!!
I just used a Kingston 8GB uSD card, and the downgrade to ICS went perfectly. So point to note: just because the Android drivers can handle a 64GB card, doesn't mean the recovery firmwware drivers can.
And now to get root back and come forward to JB again. You may yet have a scream for help from me!
Thanks for the help, John :victory:
And now I'm on rooted Jelly Bean. Happy.

[Q] external memory card problem

My ext. Card (32gb sandisk ultra micro SD) constantly corrupts random files. I don't think it is the card because this is the third card I've used with the same results. I can however use the card on my laptop and it works perfectly fine via the card adapter. If I put music or movies on the card from the laptop and try to use it on my phone the file won't work or works for a few seconds then stops. Also, when I save to my phones internal memory it works fine. Has anyone else had issue? I've tried factory resets and custom ROMs but its always the same result. ANY input would be greatly appreciated.

Tried it and it didnt help. I tried putting some files on my phones ext sdcard via usb cable from my laptop but it freezes in mid transfer. Also when I tried to make a Backup with CWM it wouldnt complete. So i wiped/formatted and fresh installed stock rom again and installed TWRP with the same results. I think its time to just give up. Also when I try and install SUPER USER it gets stuck in a boot loop. Frustrating.
ideas anyone
Okay I was able to flash cm10.1.2 and super user with twrp. Its crazy I can transfer media to the internal storage just fine but not to the SD card. I've factory reset with twrp and reinstalled stock and nothing seems to fix this.

I'm so glad someone has posted this issue, I can confirm it does exist on stock Rogers RUXUMA ROM with an external Sandisk 64GB class 10 card.
The problem especially occurs when downloading compressed files from the internet. They appear fine but when you try to extract them, they have CRC failures. Sometimes they are fine until you reboot the phone.
I have been trying to troubleshoot this issue for months, its a problem with MTP or exFat on this particular phone. I've tried both CWM and TWRP, no success. The old Gingerbread ROM which didn't have MTP or exFAT support works fine, I've gone back and tried dozens of times.
I'm just surprised nobody else has reported this.
