can an otterbox commuter be modified to fit an extended battery inside? - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

if someone could help me out with sizing I woukd be willing to buy an extended battery and modify my commuter box to fit it.
I dont mind the size of the commuter. its great. so bonus if a bigger battery can hide in there.
seen the 5200mah battery and thought maybe? I have access to all the tools required just need the info. the case utself is about 15mm thick. with some sticking up above the screen of course. it seems to me that zerolemon one might fit. but likely not. or else the plastic would need to be planed down very very thin.
thanks in advance

thats for a defender though. I really dont want to use it. and they cost a lot. the commuter was thrown in for free with the phone and is a good size and provides the level of protection I need.
I guess I will go ahead and find a good extended battery and start engineering. I realize now the zl battery is obvioisly too big among other things. a size of 1.5 times stock battery would be perfect. will wait. and read reviews in the meantime and come back when ive built something.

2800mAh Galaxy S i9000 battery at DX $17.50 w/ free shipping

I just ordered a 2800mAh battery meant for an i9000 from dealextreme.com
Samsung Galaxy S i9000 2800mAh battery I'll report back once I get it.
Hopefully it works, it doesn't seem that much thicker than the stock one.
I plan on making my own custom back cover out of sugru, or it's cheaper substitute, oogoo.
If you haven't heard of Sugru, check out some projects made with it here. It's got some amazing properties, and is easy to work with. I really like the idea of putting 4 sugru bumpers on the corner of my phone to protect it in-case of a fall.
If that link doesn't work, just goto www.instructables.com and search for "sugru".
Please document an instructable to make the backcover if the battery works. This sounds like an interesting project!
Do you plan to buy a cheap hard case cover from ebay, then cutting a hole through the back for the battery and putting the sugru over it? That might be an easier than making your own cover from scratch.
It seems to me like the battery will work for the phone, but you might have to charge it in a standalone charger.

Good luck. That picture makes it look about twice the thickness of a stock battery.
Most extended batteries are around 4mm extra thicker. but since this is only 2800, might be 1mm less thicker than those 3200mah ones. you might be able to pull it off by using a cheap hardcase and sugru

[Q] Is there a case that fits a seidio 3500 mAh battery?

Just got this phone and love the battery life with the extended battery, but I really would like to put a case on my phone to protect it. Does anyone with the extended battery + larger back cover have case that works?
I searched around and I haven't been able to come up with anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It's a long shot, but have you considered contacting Seido? Maybe they would know.

Yeah I did and they said they didn't make one at this time. I remember seeing someone saying they stuffed it into a case meant for the regular backing, but I don't remember the name of the case and can't find it again.
I haven't looked into it, but does the new Galaxy Nexus have the same layout as the Nexus S? If so, I might try and see if there is an extended battery case that fits it.

Otterbox & Extended Batteries

Hey folks,
I tried searching but could not find the answer. I am about to the buy the otterbox for my lovely G2. I love otterboxes but before I do, anyone know if an extended battery (like this one) would fit with the otterbox on it?
I assume not, based on prior experience the otterbox must be pretty tight but wanted to double check.
Thanks

Pysch. I just read that batteries' description and it seems it does not add any thickness to the battery. Has anyone proven/disproven this?
Also my original question still stands I think as I am still thinking of getting an extended battery. My G2 does last about 10 hours of normal use, but who knows when you might need the extra juice; better safe than sorry I think.
Anything that fits in our existing battery door will work with an Otterbox.
Seidio tends to work OK, though I prefer OEM batteries. HTC makes one for the EVO Design 4G that is 1520mAh and fits inside the G2 perfect as well.
Thanks.
And so is it safe to assume anything does adds even a little bit of bulk does not fit with an otterbox?

If the original battery door closes it should be fine. Any battery that needs its own battery door won't work with the otterbox.

Just want to add that as much as I love the otterbox, I have gone through 3 of them in a year and they are no longer in production so if it breaks you will not be able to get a replacement under warranty

Thanks for the heads up. I have ordered a cheap case from amazon but still desperately want to find an otterbox. Their cases are so amazing, it sucks there are so few out there for the G2. I am a mission now, seems every store online that lists it says its out of stock once you buy and send the money..
I wonder how good the battery life on seido batteries are, currently I'm using a 1520mah oem battery.

I've heard conflicting reports so good luck. I might try on eventually but I'm getting solid life out of stock for now. Finally found an otterbox on eBay and it's coming next week can't wait. .

Does this type of case exist?

What I need is a charging/extended battery type case with a flip cover (that bit is easy) BUT I need to be able to insert my phone intact with the original battery cover still on. All the ones I have seen so far one has to remove the battery cover before inserting the phone.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks

I believe anker also makes this type of extended battery "case" you're looking for.

Anker requires battery door removal to install. There is a slim batt in the case and a normal sized one included that has extra contacts for the case battery.
Still pretty slick looking. Its Anker, you can't go wrong.

I don't know if I would trust a $20 battery case from China though.
Anyway eBay has a bunch. Whether you can trust them or not is a completely different story.

i suggest you also purchase the 8500Mah version of ZL i have purchased it and waiting for it to arrive.
i am sure it will serve you well in giving you lots of ScreenOnTime and Standby times, plus the case is very sturdy looking it has its flaws for example the speaker sounding low since the battery is really wide and covers the speakers but you can use a little piece of smthng like credit card material and put it between the battery near the speaker and then put the cover on im sure it will give better sound that way . go for 8500, only like 20$ more

I have the 8500, and chose it for the case and holster. As others have said, the case is very nice and very protective. Comparisons to OtterBox are appropriate, and it may even be better... It also came with a holster which was the one thing that had been lacking for ZL in general. I had their battery with my Galaxy Nexus, and it was heck trying to find something to carry it on my belt that didn't look and feel horrible.
As for battery life, I'm on my third charge, and am getting 2-3 days. I have lots of apps, use lots of location based activities, and make the occasional phone call. With the stock battery I was getting 14-18 hours.
