Im on T-Mobile
I have a samsung vibrant. Can I buy a T-Mobile G2x, and take the sim card out of the vibrant, which is on a 2 year contract, and put it in the G2x? Are there rules against this? Is it going to even work? Thanks
Please include as much info as you can Im not a phone nerd But Im trying to get as smart as I can with them
Yes, if you buy a phone off contract you can use it with your contract.
It will be quite expensive as it won't be subsidised.
Just buy the phone sim free from wherever.

My experience is ... yes
On AT&T, which also used SIM, I simply swapped the SIM card to an alternative phone and powered up the new phone and it had service. This was with a Blackjack 2 which isn't exactly a "smart" phone. Experience is from approx 2 years ago.
You can switch phones at any time on any carrier. But you will be paying retail for the new device, unless you buy it used.

Hey all, Is it worth upgrading my Nexus S to a Galaxy S2X (Hercules) ?My friend is offering to sell me his brand new locked S2 for 220$&(no contract)..and I'm trying to decide whether I should get it as an upgrade to my one year old Nexus S or if I should just wait another year before upgrading.. What are your thoughts?
For $220? NO! NO! NO! NO!
Why would you consider that? $220 is the price of a new S3 in many cases.
T-Mobile S3 for $179 right now at Costco: http://membershipwireless.com/index.cfm/go/shop/do/PhoneDetails/productId/5366

A new S3 in this case would be $600+. OP would be getting it off contact (SIM - free) as opposed to on contract for approx. $200.
I say take it, because the S2 still runs more than $220 used, and you'd be getting it new for that price. That's a great deal!
Ps. Wanna give me your nexus s?

How do you figure it's "off contract"? He said, "brand new locked".

Locked as in locked to a certain carrier.
If his friend is selling it to him, how does his friend force him onto a contract? Unless he works for a cell company or a certified reseller, that is not possible.
And if he really is a friend, I doubt he would tie him onto a contract

Yeah, sorry I should have been more clear, there is no contract with the phone however I do need to spend another 20$ to unlock it.
Note: This is all about T-Mobile
Costco has the Samsung Galaxy S III for $179
T-Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy S II for $0
What would you do?
BTW, hackability is my #1 priority. Right now, the S3 has fewer options than the S2 so that is my hangup. Also why I don't want a Galaxy Note.
If those are the only two you're considering, I'd go with the S III just because you don't want to be thinking about an upgrade before your phone has even arrived. I think in the long run you'd be kicking yourself for buying an older device.
The dev support for the s2 is going to drop off eventually and the S3 is only going to get larger.

Good point.
Look at the long run. You can hold off longer for a upgrade.

I'll let you know how that works out for each of those devices. I just bought them both. My wife gets the S2.
I'll pick the T-Mobile has the Samsung Galaxy S II for $0 as it is free
I currently have the S2 and it's awesome!!! But why would you go for the older model when the new model is out there and it's freaking awesome as well??
If you are looking for more hacking support then I would go with the SII only because I doubt the support for it will die down soon... The hardware in the phone is superior to other smartphones that came out in the same year. With a dual-core processor and a gig of RAM, I don't think the SII is going anywhere anytime soon!!
i just bought the s3 for that price and i'm loving it. i went from the s to s3 and what a jump.
I'm an S2 user (well, sort of - Epic 4G Touch) and am quite happy with it; it performs exponentially better than what I had before (a 1st-generation iPhone...).
Is the S3 from Costco being offered as unlocked? If so, I'd go get both; nab the T-Mobile-offered S2 for free, then move the SIM card to the S3 and sell the S2. However, if Costco is only selling it with a carrier plan, then that probably isn't going to work, in which case I'd say to go with the S3.
I would suggest you to buy a s3 .. then sell it to me for cheap .. hahahaha.
Ps go for s3

buy the galaxy s3 from costco as im pretty sure they dont require you to be locked onto a plan, whereas if you choose tmobile you'd probably get a locked device and you might have like a very long contract.
the samsung galaxy 3 is more powerfull and son have more hackers too
Both good, buy the s3.

Verizon is selling the 7.7 certified pre owned for I think $280 and new for $400. Wondering if its worth buying a refurbished tablet or would it cause more problems then its worth. Also does anyone know if Verizon has a warrenty on tabs like they do on phones? I would hate to get it the a few months down the road it craps out and I can't replace it.

I just purchased one earlier today. I had to speak with a sales rep because I chose pre-paid to avoid losing my unlimited data. I did alot of research and for now this and the nexus 7 are your best options for 7 inch tabs. I already own a nexus 7 and cloud services have resolved my micro sd issues but I'm tired of tethering and want data. The tab 7.7 is better than any avail alterative which in the US would be "galaxy tab 7.0 plus", galaxy tab 2 7.0. and Sony tablet S. I am worried about how good data will be on a custom Rom running jelly bean or ice cream sandwich because I have not interest in keeping honeycomb on it
Edit: It comes with a 1yr warranty
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Do you know if you still get the warranty if you don't buy a data plan with it? I don't really want a data plan ill teather if I need it. I want it because I think its the perfect size tablet and i can't find any wifi only 7.7 tablets. I think 7 inch is a but too small but 10 inch is way too big.

Yes. I purchased it pre-paid which comes with a sim card with free activation but is not required. The 1yr warranty is included

Have a GN. Looking to upgrade to n5 but it doesn't look like Verizon will support it. Rightfully so. They really just don't get the android Dev experience. If I was to switch to another carrier what would be the next best choice. Live in Northeast USA. If I don't switch carrier what would be some other comparable phone choices that boot loader is unlockable and rootable. What choices are there. Lg g2. Note 3. Galaxy S4 kind of old all ready. Moto x. What would you do and why

Just get the LG G2...I mean, the nexus 5 is based off the G2...G2 has a bigger screen bigger battery and higher mp camera tho, you will however have to either sign a contract or pay alot of money off contract for it

Also worried about being able to root. Since Verizon seems to want to lock down devices. Also don't know what to do about the unlimited data I have. Don't want to pay retail but might have to to keep it. Is it worth it. With the nexus 5 I would probably jump ship. Verizon has lost interest in taking care of the customers who made them what they are. They simply don't mind losing customers when new ones walk in the door. What would be a second choice of carrier. T-Mobile. Sprint. At&t. Choosing should not be this difficult but this is what Verizon has done to customers. Bad business practice with customers and Google alike.

I still have unlimited data through Verizon on my GNex, and when the Nexus 5 drops I am getting rid of Verizon!
I am really liking the wireless plans (no contract) offered by AIO. They were bought out by ATT and and it basically uses the ATT LTE nationwide network.
I plan on ditching my GNex and getting a Nexus 5 and signing up for AIO's $70 plan. I will save about $30 a month from what I am paying to Verizon and I'll be able to enjoy the Nexus experience
I can't stand the phones the Verizon offers anymore (no nexus, etc) and I want a phone that I can use on multiple carriers and around the world. Screw Verizon!

Just leave Verizon. Too much BS in that crap company. Go to At&t or T-Mobile. I live in the northeast and had At&t for almost twenty years only switched recently to T-Mobile because of the uncarrier stuff

What do you mean uncarrier stuff. I travel all over new england so I need an adequate carrier. Plan on leaving Verizon but don't want to hop on board with the wrong carrier for what I need.

Get the n5 with att then. It seems you are used to the price and coverage. I know tmo is great in the urban areas up the eastern seaboard but if you go anywhere like upstate new York etc it gets sparse. I've been on T-Mobile for more than 10 years and fortunate to always be within good coverage but I would probably have to go with evil att if I traveled a lot. Verizon has the best coverage and same prices as att, but no Sim card or way to root the majority of their phones, I would have to go with att

The new pricing and format. Their network works almost everywhere. If your unsure go At&t it works everywhere
