[Root] PiPO M9 3G and install a custom ROM - Android General

Hello everyone!
Recently I bought a PiPO M9 3G from Focal Price website. It arrived safely and Android 4.2.2 installed. But the tablet wasn't rooted. I look for info to root the tablet and install a custom ROM. After a lot of search found the way to root my PiPO M9 3G. I'm not a dev, just a user. I've been with XDA from 2009 as a user with my G1. Even I looked for info about any custom ROM for the tablet in XDA but no luck. There are few threads about CWM.

So, I've written a post about how to root the tablet and attached all the files required. As I'm not a DEV I'm not taking any credit for this work. All credits are due to all the respective developers and contributors. What I just did, tried it on my tablet and its working fine with root.
Visit the page if you would like to root your PiPO M9 3G tablet too http://techloverhd.com/2013/06/how-...t-and-install-android-4-2-2-rom-step-by-step/ [Note: this ROM is for the new pcb version of the tablet only]
Update 27/06/13: Riley ROM v1.6 for this tablet is out also for the WiFi version.
The ROM is rooted, debloated, init.d support and with CWM.
MODs please let me know if my thread is inappropriate or needs to take down.
I'm looking forward someone will port CyanogenMOD into this tablet and if there can be more tweaks.

Nice !!

I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm not a developer, just a user, I wish if I could give you any nice solution for this. It happened to me as well. I pressed the reset button while pressing the Esc key and the tablet restarted and worked.

I have ordered the PiPo M9 Pro (1900x1200 and 32GB nand), and will let you know when I receive it (within 2 weeks) and how I get it rooted (or not )
Looking forward to it

I'll be interested in seeing how others get on, I'm getting a PIPO M9 Pro tomorrow..
The seller on ebay claimed it could be rooted.. he tried over this weekend, Yesterday I get message from him saying "it's not stable, so going to send you english firmware one but un-rooted"
Sounds like complete *!"£$?
I shan't name the e-bay seller, but why claim on advert it can be rooted free of charge to then say 3 days later not stable sending un-rooted one..
Reckons he will send me details when there is a stable root?!
Hmmm..

Have you rooted your new pipo m9 pro finally ?
I have bought the same model and I don't know how to do that.
Any idea ?

I would also like to know how to root PiPo M9 Pro?

Hello
this rom it has Greek language?

Finally got my M9 Pro!
Was a problem at the shop but got it fast right after.
Nice thing already: you can open multiple apps at the same time (multi-window) and have them next to each other.
I will go try to root it now, will reply after if it worked or not...
One disadvantage I notice sometimes: with 3D apps, the menu/screen of the background peeks thru sometimes (guess this will be fixed in a patch).
Also HDMI output is cool; 1080 50/60hz or 720 50/60hz output.
And it supports external controller (doesn't work on a lot devices because it asks for more power)

ByteBitten hello
can you check if the pipo m9 has Greek language in the settings?

I´m waiting for my PIPO M9 Pro any day now. And want to ask you people a question.
Is Riley ROM 1.6 the best option for this tablet? Or is it better to just Root the stock kernel?
I can hardly wait to get my hands on it... :fingers-crossed:

In my pipo m9pro 3g is no Greek language. It has a lot of language but no greek

thanks for your time my friend

Root your stock Pipo M9 Pro
So I finally got my Pipo M9 Pro yesterday, I love the Metro style launcher (Pipo Family Launcher) that comes with it.
I decided to try Riley's Custom ROM v1.6, so I got all the benefits you get from it, but I also lost the launcher I liked so much.
So to make a long story short, I downloaded the latest official firmware, from pipo's web site (20130822).
Flashed it, and everything was back as before.
Now I just needed to get root.
I used UNLOCKROOT tool for windows, the only problem with this tool is that you need to have installed the proper drivers for the Pipo, so the PC will be able to detect it, to properly inyect the SuperSU apk. But since the drivers where installed when I flashed the custom ROM this wasn't the case.
So now I have my Pipo M9 Pro with the la test stock firmware, Pipo launcher and... rooted!
I'm happy and will keep these settings until something better comes for our tablet.

For the people waiting for my experiences;
Got easily flashed Rileys rom onto the tablet.
Because I didn't have the correct drivers for Windows, I couldn't root the stock.
Rileys rom is really easy in use and cleaned nice up.
There still are the wifi issues from the newest roms from PiPo, but not that problematic.
Rileys rom for the M9 Pro is currently at 1.3

Do you have any more detailed information?

I am now using Rileys rom 1.6, the wifi seems to be worked on at PiPo.
Testing the Family Launcher now (in Rileys Rom 1.6beta), works kinda nice and easy if you want to entertain a kid and you can switch to normal launcher again with Rileys rom.
In my earlier version I started to have random freezes, It seems that's solved in this version.
(if your tablet freezes and you pressed the reset, after booting up it's recommended to do a reboot, or it starts freezing again)
With the RKMultiPlayer you can play a movie in a small screen and keep working in other apps.
MultiWindow is really nice with 2 apps together, but you can use 4 with a second push on the MW button.
Tablet is very well build; dropped it from the table, only had to click a corner of the screen back, no scratch or crack!
With the FlashTool you can flash your own Start Up Flashscreen (still image) and with root you can change your Bootanimation.

I just ordered the Wifi version of the Pipo M9 Pro. I am curious, as I cannot seem to get an answer anywhere on the internet and perhaps someone here knows. Is the 3G version supported in the USA spectrum or no? If it is, how does one go about activating it?
Also, is it possible to get a full section for this tablet on this website or is that not allowed? It seems like all kinds of things are scattered all over the internet and the info is iffy. However, this website tends to keep things simple and has a good crowd that keeps things organized.
Thanks!

I really hate this phone right now!!!!!!HELP

Hello,
I recently switched to my first android phone from an iphone and I hate it right now. I am currently trying to update it to 2.3.3 but it won't work for some reason. The phone shuts off randomly, and the wifi connects but does not send data to my phone so i can't use wifi. Above all of that, the phone is really plain, and is does not appeal. Can somebody PLEASE help me with any of the above problems, and maybe even show me some UI's that would be good for this phone, like a Sense for it. I know nothing about android and I am really frustrated, and do not want to sell this phone.
Root it. Download mui rom and use iphone theme. Works well and looks great.

Do you have any fixes for the wifi, or the unexpected shut off? I'm trying to update it but having a hard time seeing as how my wifi wont work.

You shouldn't need wifi to update. Download all the files on your computer and flash them using nvflash.
The best thing to do is root, than download MIUI and youll love the phone, you can make it look exactly like an iphone 4s , or anything you ever wanted to
Yup, root it and you can do miracles with miui and even cm7....

I too came from an iPhone, and I had the wifi problem on the g2x too, where it's connected, but it's stuck. I was extremely frustrated, and want to throw the phone against the wall.
I ended up rooting it (super easy to do), after you've done that, you'll be able to flash a new ROM on to it. I use Weapon, which is based on the stock LG gingerbread release. It's super stable, fast, and best of all, no WiFi problem, at all!
I don't get this, if the developers on XDA can crank out these nice ROMs that are more battery efficient, fast, and with less issue, what is wrong with LG? You'd think that they have more resources than the developers here!
In our family there's 3 G2x phones, none rooted since everyone likes the vanilla Android that came on them. All 3 have been rock-stable with no issues with wifi, etc. Not the greatest build quality, but so far trouble-free. No significant complaints or need to root for ordinary use.
From HTC G2 with xda premium.
You don't even need to root. Just nvflash ClockworkMod and flash a custom rom.
(This is the right way to do it)
G2x - 2.3.7 CM7
Transformer - 3.2 Revolver OC/UV
Wait a minute...did you buy this phone new? If you did, from where? My ex-wife and I both got this phone in early September and it came with 2.3.3 pre-installed. If you don't want to deal with ROMs, just take it to a t-mo store (and actual store, NOT a kiosk...all the idiots work in kiosks, lol). They should have no problems doing it for you.
Whoa not real sure why my original post was posted here. Could a mod delete this please?

Exactly. The updater killed my phone too and I'm not a noob (am I? lol)
LG has a crappy updater. I ended up having Tmobile replace my dead one (THANKS LG!) with one that was pre-updated.
Probably what I would recommend doing if you don't feel like taking the 15% of successfully flashing GB on it the right way. Mine was stuck on the LG Updater Screen. Just call Tmobile and say it won't do anything. The LG updater app said it was already running the latest version and wouldn't continue.
It's a known problem. Then BAM... new phone with it pre-installed. The full update process takes HOURS. Transfers at super slow speeds. LG Updater also changes the version numbers on your phone FIRST, so if it fails, it's hosed.
Rule of thumb LG, never change version numbers until the phone was successfully flashed and verified.
The G2x is geared more for seasoned Android vets, so it isn't anyone's fault. It's a sweet phone though. I did successfully fix the "Update of Death Loop" aka UoDL by doing a FULL NVFLASH install of GB. The how-to is in this forum somewhere.

[ROM] Hyundai A7 - first custom rom! POST#6

ok, so i just got this in the mail today (110 bucks on ebay) and i like and i dont like.
i have a rooted nextbook premium 7 (thanks dochoppy!) and i love the np7 for the price. someone steered me toward the A7 and i was feeling a bit rich that night so i bought it. the specs are amazing! i particularly like the front facing camera so this can be used for skype and the speed should be awesome as well, but im not feeling it.
if there is anyone who has this tablet post here so we can encourage some development, im slowly starting to learn some myself but i am in need of lots of help! come on guys lets root this puppy and see what its made of!
wow posted this three weeks ago and no comment?
i guess no one on xda has one of these
well ive been busy with some other projects and just now had some more time to play with this new android toy.
turns out it IS rooted right out of the box, strange but awesome no work needed here!
had lots of issues trying to install the market initially tried lots of .apks and only a few would download when i would open the market it would just force close or would time out.
when i installed any ics gmail i would get the constant fc "android.core...." forget the rest but i remember having this issue on a phone a while back when i removed somethings necessary for android to run properly.
did some research found the manufactures website (if you go here be sure to have google translate ready )
found others having similar problems. turns out just downgrading the firmware fixes much of these issues. go back to 4.0.3 (20120203) and market (play) works flawless!!!!
just needed to download the correct contacts.apk to fix the "android.core..."
now i need to change the buildprop to allow more apps from the market.
also need to find some way to fix this kernel (more like find someone to do it for me ) when i open set cpu all is grand - as soon as i attempt to overclock bam! screen black and everything frozen - hard reset fixes this
root explorer is not finding my sdcard (thinks the nandflash is sd) so im using the file explorer that came with it. not sure if it has r/w option but i think if i need some minor adjustments root explorer can work and rom toolbox appears ok.
anyhow just wanted to post some updates and as soon as i get some more time i will add more detail here. oh and post links if needed too!
still no one....
well im starting to like this tablet more and more, and ics!
i thought i bricked it earlier when i was trying to overclock again (need a new kernel!)
i flashed the 20120203 firmware update again and nothing! tried three or four times and i kept getting stuck at the initial boot/splash screen!
went to the manufactures website and this time there was a new update, and this one had the market preinstalled!
http://www.hyundai-digital.cn/download/?lis=2&cl=2&cid=7
its the 20120329 dated but the build is 20120314 --- so there must be a few weeks of testing before they release to the public, a good thing i assume.
anyway this version seems much better but there still NEEDS to be a custom rom for this tablet! there is so much potential here but linpack only clocks at like 15.5 mflops, neocore scores 63.2 fps (looks good though!) antutu gets 3074
being that this seems hard to brick im going to attempt some tweaks, not a true custom rom but hopefully something better than stock.
if anyone has one of these and has issues with flashing the newest firmware just ask and ill be glad to help!
Picked one up as well. I am told by finless that I should follow the development of the Polaroid tabs (same SoC). Tabletrepublic and Flashmyandroid have dedicated forums with good info for the Hyundai A7. I'm downloading the 314 build right now....
I just received my HDMI adapter yesterday. Watched a Blu-Ray ripped file from the A7 on my 52". WOW!
Update: New ROM fixed errors, but the camera still won't work with supplied software (so no Skype). Netflix plays longer but still eventually freezes (about 10 min).
Update: Re-formatted and re-flashed. Camera works reliably! Skype video works!
ok here is the first custom rom for the hyundai a7! let me just say it isnt too much just the latest firmware minus all the chinese stuff. has full market, superuser and busybox are installed and working and full gapps applied and working strong! ive tested it for about a day now and havent found any flaws but would like a few more to try it.
i take no credit here!!!! this is made by steev a developer over @ flashmyandroid, this is based off his elvish rom for allwinner tablets. so give him a hand!
this is the first step into making your a7 the best tablet for the price around! so test this rom out and see how it works, let me know if there are any improvements/changes you want to see here! here ya go!

hi there . i should be getting my Hyundai A7 Tablet in a day or so. and haven’t found much info out there other then the spec.
just joined this site as I’m getting the feeling that it would be able to do what i want out the box.
in the past i have put a dual boot system on my old iriver and also messed about with a psp to play Amiga games .. but from looking around on this web page, everything seems t be way over my head . and haven’t found the link for "Hyundai A7 for dummies" any were .
basically i love my htc desire, and would like the tablet to do much of the same.
browse the net, down load programs off the Google site, and properly will end up doing minor editing on spread sheets and also downloading bit torrents.
and if posoble run some old amiga games
I’m guessing i need to do an update or something to get it to be able to access the Google downloads.
but do i need anything else .
i know that I’m properly way way behind on my tec or playing with operating systems . and properly will never understand all of what opening up an operating system can do,
but do i need to ?
and if so .. where should i start?
as i say .. struggling to find a basic / dummy guide to all this
any help would be most welcome
When you get your a7 play with it for a day and then come back if you decide you want more. I can post details on how to flash the only custom rom for these beast so far. Trutfully as improved it is over the stock os we need a lot more work to make this little tablet fly. If you need help ill post the links and instructions when I'm @ a computer

HELP, TUTORIAL: hyundai a7 custom rom flashing
first of all i want to thanks for the custom rom for the a7 "beast"
if it is possible, please let me know how to flash the a7.
i am basicly on mac, but i have also windows.
are there any mac based android utility ? except video converters any sw is welcomed
Thnx
first get live suit 1.07 here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?idmeiyvr8xbt6rd
then get custom rom here:
http://minus.com/mMQ8obWfa/1f
now make sure you are powered down on the tablet (fully) and not plugged into computer
open live suit (on a pc there may be a mac version havent looked into it)
sometimes a "backup warning" window open , hit no and then move on
next hit the square button in the left corner (looks like cardboard box)
from here direct the file to you custom rom (elvish)
now plug in your a7 to computer, if it automatically powers on shut it back down
take a small pin or whathaveyou to the little hole to the left of hdmi port this is the "update" button
hold down the "update" button as you power on and you will see a window pop up on your computer
click yes to reformat (i always do but you could hit no and it will still update without reformatting)
wait a short time (~2min) untill the progress bar finishes.
tablet will auto reboot when done
yeah! new firmware! your done!
EDIT: here is a video i found for flashing a polaroid tablet with livesuit:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL5KnVH6inQ&feature=youtu.be
similar device so i thought it could be helpful to some
bigger battery?

turns out only one speaker granted it only looked like two from the outside but i did assume there was stereo
with help from finlessbob i was able to determine this is a lithium-polymer battery (lipo)
the dimensions of the current battery are width:2.625" , length:3.2" , height:.2"
it is two batteries strung together so a third battery inline would be optimal. slice this in half and i need:
w-1.3", l-3.2", h-.2"
this approximate of course and could probably get away with large still.
im going to check online and local hobby/battery shops and see if i can find something for under $30
if anyone has something they think might work let me know and ill take a look
just received my Hyundai A7 about 2 weeks ago - I too am more and more impressed with this tablet every time I use it (using Evish ROM). It simply can't be beat for $100 - ICS runs great on it...
My son has since taken owenership of it, but I was thinking of geting another one, just to play with....
If anyone is "on the fence" about whether or not to get one, do it!!
By the way, the plastic film on the front is not meant to be permenant - just a protective sheet. It is a PIA to remove, but I would remove it for sure....
speaker crackle
someone turned me on to a post in german, dont really know who to thank for this
but anyone else her that crack! on the speaker when just navigating?
dont know why i didnt notice this before but directly above the speaker sits the wifi antenna, dumb design that causes interference.
quick fix is to take the speaker and turn it 180 so the wires are facing the other way, then put a small pieces of something in between the speaker and antenna. (they used a utility knife blade) sounds like wifi reception improves too!
anyhow about to try this myself - ill report back with my findings as well as any other tips i find.

I've ordered the A7HD and might get it by 15th of May. I really am eager to try this tablet as I think that it will be very competitive in the Market. No custom Roms have been released for this one yet but I think developers can tweak in the Elvish changing the display driver and resolution to fit the A7HD
a few people have been asking how to stop the speaker noise (click!) so i posted an explanation and a link a few pages back. but like i promised i finally got around to take a few pictures of the modification
you can see i moved the speaker 180 so the wires are on the left. i then cut a small piece of plastic (seen someone use a utility knife blade so use whatever you think will work) and placed it above the speaker. this will keep the speaker from interfering with the wifi.
also when you have your tablet opened (its easy just pry around the edges) take a look at the connections, these are terribly soldered. especially look at the usb port there have been some people complaining it broke from the board.
mine seems ok but it may be better to add a little solder now before it were to break off completely if yours looks poor
as for the bigger battery, i havent found a good replacement yet (havent looked hard either i mostly use my NP7) but when i do i will update
and does anyone know if i were to replace this camera with a better one (5mp maybe) would i need to change the software too? i assume there may just be a little bit tweaking the code but it would be nice for this camera is so easy to take out and there seem to e many i could attempt to replace it with, well if anyone has an idea on this let me know
A bought two batteries for galaxy note (not original) on ebay. Their capacity is 2600 mAh for one. Waiting for them. I want to connect them parallelly, and get one battery with about 5000 mAh capacity. Everything must fit.
What are the dimensions?

[Q] [TF700KL] Is rooting possible?

Okay, so I got myself the the ASUS Transformer Infinity LTE model (TF700KL).
I tried looking through the forum for several hours to find something comparable, but all the fuss is about the ordinary TF700T model.
Problem is, I have no root access to the device, I can't even update SKU's (officially released by asus - can't post the link yet though, as per forum rules).
I tried pretty much every loophole, guide and software application, even with solutions for the TF700T, but they didn't work (as I suspected).
My guess is, that because it's relatively new on the market, no one has tried this before (or failed trying). I'd hate to wait for ASUS to release an official unlock like they did with the TF700T.
so essentially tl;dr: Help me root my device, or at least point me in the right direction so I might do it myself.
EDIT1: For those of you who are just lurking for the answer; currently the answer is NO, you cannot root the TF700KL.
I will update the OP as we go along. Maybe some kind soul can help us out here.
EDIT2: If you want to know how to update to JB (4.1.1), the procedure can be found on page 2 in this thread.

Not ignoring you, just don't know how...is it a Snapdragon chip? Whatever it is, you might want to look to a forum with a device with the same chip and see if someone there might have a clue about how to crack it.
May not be much help.
You could try requesting a new device at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354
Or there may be some others who could help in the general section.
Its a Snapdragon S4 Krait Dual core.
GPU is Adreno 225
Running ICS 4.0.4

I tried pretty much every loophole, guide and software application, even with solutions for the TF700T, but they didn't work (as I suspected).
My guess is, that because it's relatively new on the market, no one has tried this before (or failed trying). I'd hate to wait for ASUS to release an official unlock like they did with the TF700T.
so essentially tl;dr: Help me root my device, or at least point me in the right direction so I might do it myself.

I have the exact same problem. There hasn't really been any discussion about this because few people have the KL. However, you could have found that the root for TF700T does not work (as you now found out by yourself). There is no word from ASUS regarding the bootunlocker either, as far as I know (I did ask them but they did not say anything...).
Even though root would be sweet, I feel that the software is terrible in general (bunch of bugs, crashes, memory problems, etc.) so a jellybean update that is good would be even more appreciated.

It seems to be appearing more and more on Eastern European Websites so hopefully it might come to the rest of the world sooner rather later. But I have the same issues with the crashes and it it sometimes lags so much that I have to restart.

The software is terrible. It's hardly a poorly made port of the TF700T firmware. Too many crashes, unresponsive... generally I would have to say that it's just as stable as a premenstrual 12 year old girl.
Tried contacting ASUS, but they bluntly ignored me by spamming me with auto-replies on completely different subject (several times).
I sent Asus a request on their support page and a week later they just closed it without a reply

TF700kl coming out in Germany
Just read that the TF700kl will be coming out in Germany in January 2013. Let's hope that there is some software updates by then.

Another TF700Kl here.
I sent an email to asus support asking for jelly bean. They replied that it is being developed.
I find the current firmware somewhat laggy and unresponsive. It is really not what I was expecting. Hope update comes soon....
Surfing on the internet is quite odd. Slow and sometimes does nothing!
Do you all have the same problems or is it just me/mine?

We are all having the same problems. At least they answered you. They just deleted my post.

Yeah I noticed. However, I'm in no way capable of updating the firmware.
Tried placing the extracted *.raw file AND the zipped one, on the microSD in following locations:
"/"
"/ASUS"
"/ASUS/Update"
Did the same on the internal SDCard - no difference.
the tablet doesn't find it.
It's really sad, because ASUS have no information on how to update the TF700KL.
Tried asking support, but they just referred me to the usual SOP update manual, which doesn't work for the TF700KL.
I'm beginning to suspect the current firmware (v4.1.13.8) for being inherently faulty on the update part.
I'm beginning to doubt if buying the TF700KL was such a good idea after all...

Tried that several times. Didn't work. Sent an inquiry to ASUS about this particular problem. Still waiting for an answer. Will post it the answer here if it works (or if they answer at all).
EDIT1:
It now seems that the system firmware update embedded in the current version (I'm using V4.1.13.8) works.
Go to "Settings" -> "About Tablet" -> "System Firmware Update"
It didn't work yesterday, but works flawlessly now.
I'm connected to my local Wi-Fi and using the WW (World Wide) SKU at 100% battery (NOT docked).
I have no idea if it's the JB update, but I will update the OP when I get more info (after I have updated).
EDIT2:
So much for getting my expectations up, it was a minor update (V4.1.13.8 -> V4.1.13.9).
Maybe they fixed firmware updating - I'll try and play around with it to see if anything changed.
EDIT3:
Okay, so just as I suspected; ASUS changed something so that OTA is now working properly.
An external MicroSD card is NOT needed for the updates, the firmware updater downloads the update to your internal storage and then applies it from there.
The firmware update option (as described above in EDIT1) now works, you just have to run it after every update, to get a newer one each time:
Original Version: V4.1.13.8
Updated to V4.1.13.9 (small size, ~10MB)
Then again to V4.1.13.10 (small size, ~10MB)
Then again to V5.0.4.10 (large size, ~500MB) <- Wohoo JB!!!
I will now try and root it - if I have any success, I'll post it in the original post.
EDIT4:
Ran some benchmarks on the JB update, got on average ~10% more performance out of it and everything runs much more smoothly. Also haven't experienced a crash or lok-up yet.
I updated to that version earlier but I am no longer able to use the same procedure for the latest version

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Edit 1: Where to the internal storage does it save the files too? I hope that it can be read without root. But knowing my luck recently that won't be the case.
Edit 2: So I managed to find a wifi connection and I am told that there is no update available. No idea what to do now.

1. I guess it saves it in a temporary hidden folder. Root is not required (unless you want to see the file), for updating with this method.
2. I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that your battery must be at least 80% before it will download updates. I also suggest disconnecting your dock during the procedure. Also make sure your connection is good enough. If it won't find the update then, then I have no clue what to do next. Maybe a factory reset?
Also, ASUS replied with yet another lame response; They provided me with instructions on how to do a factory reset -_- minus 5 stars for them. The response sounds like an auto reply - like as if they didn't even read my question. I won't give up that easily this time though. I'm gonna give them hell until they give me proper response (even though I'm actually past the problem with updating now).
EDIT1:
To access the folder where the firmware updater saves the files, you need root - which isn't currently possible with the TF700KL. It definitely would be easier to just drop a firmware image directly into that folder and update that way, but I think ASUS limited access on purpose (custom ROMs and whatnot). For now, the only way of getting JB, is by using the firmware updater in "Settings" -> "About tablet" -> "System Firmware Update". I don't know why it worked for me suddenly, but I will post every measure that I took while updating - try and follow those. If it doesn't work, then I don't know what to do, but as I said above, I'm in a dialogue with the support and will post any "useful" answer they give me (and hopefully any solution):
- undocked (keyboard dock not connected).
- 99%-100% Battery on the tablet
- factory reset
- not linked with a google account (skipped signing up / synchronizing)
- nothing touched (no apps disabled or stopped)
- everything standard (no extra apps downloaded and installed)
- English (United States) language
- no USB nor Power cable attached
- connected to WiFi (~60% signal on a WPA2/PSK protected 20/2 MBit line - no other usage on line)
- GPS disabled
That's about all I remember doing before trying to update.
I'm from Denmark, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.
I still need to find a reliable WiFi connection as I am not at home at the moment. But thanks for the info.

This is great news!
I did a check for new firmware and got the update OTA (sweden). It downloaded and installed just fine (I was on 4.1.13.10).
So far it seems smoother, but I haven't had much time to explore this. Maybe I should factory reset too, to get a fresh start.

[Q] Upgrade/Downgrade/headaches.

This is my first post here so please be gentle. I have a Note pro 12.2 (p900/WiFi) tablet that I purchased last year after 2 months of reading/doing research/and hands on between it and the Surface3 pro. Biggest problem was I had to go to Florida to actually get my hands on a Pro because no one in the tri state area (MD/PA/NJ) had it in stock or even as a display. And when I bought it i HAD to order it.
Past all that, the Note has been invaluable to me, 64GB plus 128GB card. I use it every day, 8-12 hours minimum. I have not rooted it because I am worried about support. I also have a Note 3 running 4.4.2 - I turned off the auto updates and have refused to allow the upgrade to Lollipop on that device because of all the problems I have been reading about. That device works perfectly. My wife's first S4 did and auto update which completely messed up that phone. So I have experience trying to get those children at the Sprint store to try to help. _anyway, I digress. Today, I checked, an update is available for the Note Pro (+1GB file to download by the looks of it) I would not mind trying it but first I want to do a complete backup snapshot of my device. Just like I do on my pc's and laptops. For example, I use Clonezilla and can image the whole thing, perfectly, and restore it COMPLETELY - at will. I have not found ANY tool that allows me to do that to ANY android device. It is like I am being help hostage. I hate it.
1. I want to be able to get a complete (Clonezilla style image) of my NOTE PRO and I want to be able to restore that should the Lollipop experience be Lollypoop.
2. I want to be able to capture that snapshot of the device with all its settings intact - including the Knox
Can this be done? What tool is there that allows a real complete snapshot of an android device and allows you to restore a previous or older version, SHOULD I CHOOSE TO (from 5.02 to 4.4.2 - something the Sprint children told me is not possible with android)
Any useful help and pointing into a direction that can do this would be greatly appreciated. I know that I am not alone in this frustration with Google forcibly controlling EVERYTHING ( I was livid last year when my Notes upgraded to 4.4.2 and I lost the ability to write to the external card on nearly every app that I had paid for, even sent multiple e-mails to Samsung, to no avail)
Following along
I'm curious about whether that is possible as well beyond a nandroid backup. I'm not likely to upgrade to the 5.02 firmware because I have the logitech keyboard case. If
I've been an XDA member for nearly 7 years, but I don't usually ask much in the way of questions. I hardly post at all, actually. I can usually find my answers by searching and reading the forums. This is my first Samsung device (I've always had either Nexus or HTC phones. & Nexus tablets) and I find working with it to be kind of frustrating. I've kept it stock at 4.4 because it works 95% of the time. The only problem I have is with wifi at times.
I'd like to put an alternate ROM on it and find a way to keep most of the S-pen functionality, but so far the array of "X works, but Y" doesn't info associated with various roms I've read about is daunting.
serious lack of understqnding
Can you imagine, making an upgrade and blowing out a major manufacturer like Logitec? Not some hokum chinese knockoff, but a name brand. This is exactly what is wrong with android. It seems inexperienced and oblivious children are driving it. That is one of the major reasons android was lacking serious professional support and respect all these years. Making boneheaded decisions that destroy existing functionality, for what? A new color scheme? A flat screen lay out? Really, thats what we need?
And when they PUSH the upgrades, its like you are trapped. A cloned backup and the ability to restore to a previous good setup is absolutely essential. I have looked at all these mods of the kernel and tweaks, etc. The fact is that NONE of them have 100% functionality. You always lose something, sometimes a lot. And the gains do not seem to be worth destroying the stock setup. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CAN NOT UNDO IT.
The loss of direct access to external sd cards for example, because google is pushing phones with no external sd slots. Really? I avoided apple products EXACTLY because there was no expansion slot. Then google goes and kills it.
Here is a suggestion. NOT ALL DEVICES ARE PHONES. Tablets have been around for years. Enough already with phone upgrades for tablets. Tablets should have their own firmware and operating system.
Here is a novel idea. You want loyal customers? Give them what they are clamoring for. Give them the ability to save their systems. Then upgrade fo your hearts content. BUT IF IT IS A CRAP UPGRADE. Allow them to undo it. Think about how much less bad feedback and emergency support you can avoid. Thats real dollars being save.
And by the way, as unresponsive as Samsung has been, they see the writing on the wall. Android on Samsung devices is heading the way of the dodo. Some skinned version of a tablet/phone linux replacement is coming. It will be one of the first major rejections of google power grab by a major player in the market.
So give us the ability to backup our systems. WITHOUT HAVING TO ROOT, when even that does not guarantee 100% sucess
and the list grows
Judging by the slew of problems, an ever increasing list, Lollipoop is so not a worthwhile upgrade. This is exactly why we need to be able to snapshot/backup the complete system BEFORE ANY UPDATES.
After two days of waiting, it is disappointing to me that no answer has been posted. I thought if any place had it it would be here. I might be wrong.

As you've guessed, you're basically looking for an answer that doesn't exist, at least not the specific one you want. The one you don't? . . . Root and install custom recovery? . . that's the only answer at this point . . and yes it trips Knox . . it is what it is . . Trust me, you're not the first or only person to lament about the situation. I've been up on my own soap box many times too.

I had a premonition, considering how no one touched my question. You can get a lot of answers by just by asking the right question, even when they don't answer.
As long as Android remains attached to this childish, closed sandbox and its restrictions, then its days are numbered. From the standpoint of a business owner, if I was a major company with product in the pipeline that needs something to run as the basic operating system, I WOULD BE LOOKING SOMEPLACE ELSE.
Google is not the end-all be-all of software. There were other operating systems before them and there will be operating systems after they move into the dustbin of history. I hope they are paying attention here. I personally have been in the field since the mid-70's, I see a strong pattern here.
Anyway, thank you for flipping on the light bulb. I will contain my rage and re-direct it to something more productive (like those dweebs at Papyrus - jesus)
I was searching the forum looking for an answer to something like this... I have to say, I'm also shocked there have no answers given
regarding Knox... no you cannot restore that under any circumstances.
snapshot of everything else... yes and no. you cannot snapshot (aka nandroid aka twrp backup) your bootloader or STOCK recovery.
bootloader: you can only change this via Odin or OTA updates, and depending on the specific update cannot downgrade these below a certain point of the currently installed (if at all)
recovery:
you can freely flash new versions without a pc, but you cannot backup the stock recovery in a nandroid because the nandroid is generated using twrp -- a custom recovery that takes the place of stock recovery (mostly useless). if you find a copy of the stock recovery on the forum, you could then flash it back using Flashify from Google Play, but you'd then lose the ability to restore your nandroid until TWRP is restored.
also, you cannot take OTA updates while TWRP is installed, and in some cases at all / ever again after installing TWRP or root.
edit:
I can confirm that OF4 (the initial lollipop update) can be downgraded to NK1 (the newest kitkat update). if anyone can confirm for me whether or not OI1 can be downgraded to kitkat NK1 I would greatly appreciate it!
Depending on what version of Note Pro you have, LTE versions have locked bootloader, so they cannot downgrade.
Wifi Note Pro doesn't have locked bootloader, but downgrade from Lollipop to Kitkat you need bootloader for Kitkat along with the firmware NK1. If you read the threat LogicTech keyboard not working after update to Lollipop, you will see the link to Kitkat bootloader.
Without this bootloader, your tablet will hang at boot up after you flash the Kitkat firmware.

I downgrade it to NK1, this process only takes 5 minutes
I did it only for demonstration but personally I think Lollipop has a better graphic interface, then I go back to Lollipop .
I can go back and forth from Kitkat to Lollipop with ease as long as right bootloader is loaded.
Since I loaded the OH2, the tablet is updating now to OI1 and it's wifi version SM-P900 Note.

That's not entirely true.
The USA LTE versions have a locked bootloader.
The International P905, however, does not. (Device-locking of any kind is illegal under EU law.)
Now, whether you can downgrade the P905 I really can't say, because mine has been comfortably sitting on 4.4.2, and I have no desire to let Lollipop anywhere near it. Just thought I'd clarify that the US and EU devices are not the same

If you can post your tablet with back cover removed, I can tell if it's different from US device. I once opened a tablet sold in England, I did not see any differences from US device except the hardware code indicates it's not from US. I swap a mainboard from SM-P907A, an LTE tablet from AT&T to SM-P905V, an LTE tablet from Verizon, it runs normally except the software customized for AT&T. I don't change anything from the Verizon tablet, except the mainboard from AT&T.
Even with a LTE mainboard, I can use any part of a Wifi Note Pro SM-P900 except the rear camera as they are exactly the same.
Or I can change a LTE Note Pro to a Wifi Note Pro by swapping the mainboard and rear camera, the rest are identical.
From my experiences of varieties of Samsung tablets, I don't see any major differences of Note Pro LTE and Wifi versions as they almost use the same parts.
By using a mainboard of Tab Pro in a Note Pro tablet, I can even change a Note Pro to a Tab Pro as they are using the same parts except the Tab Pro mainboard doesn't have S Pen cable connector, it works normally as a Tab Pro.
That means I can downgrade a LTE Note Pro to Wifi Note Pro or Wifi Tab Pro by only swapping mainboard and rear camera.
Given the fact that LTE tablets sold in US have different names but actually they are Identical , I can tell Samsung makes the same tablet but the differences
are software and firmware loaded into it, like SM-P905A, SM-P907V, SM-P907T, they're branded by LTE providers but the hardwares are the same

So, I wonder how Google is going to work out the system partition issue for devices that weren't designed to run dual systems when an update occurs? Interesting thing to consider.
This is all nonsense. The update will come out when it comes out. There are a number of factors that go into the release of an update, none of which can be accurately measured.

Google has already said that seamless updates aren't coming to current and older Nexus devices (http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...e-new-seamless-update-feature-from-android-n/), so I wouldn't expect for any pre-2016/7 device.
Rubbish.
Nougat is incoming according to the T-Mobile website. It will probably be a month or two before it becomes approved and and T-Mo put their bloat on it. But If the website is anything to go by, then yes the V10 is confirmed to receive 7.0. Strange that the G4 will not be getting it...

But can we root 7.0?

One thing is true though. LG is one of the fastest to roll out major updates. I recall from my LG G4 was that it was the first phone to receive MM apart from Nexus.
This time around also the G5 is probably their priority. Once LG rolls it out then, T-Mobile is also gonna take their time. So it's gonna take a while.

so on a side note, my v10 just crapped out on me, similar boot loop of death like the g4, i feel like it has a bad ground, it randomly was on charge and started to vibrate continuously and screen froze, i have 3 batterys i tried those but fail, i have really good and bad wires and tried those, some let it into twrp without touch working and some wire allow to twrp with touch working for short time b4 reboot freeze, and one wire allowed to twrp with touch but twrp touch was slow af. literally like 1 hour ago. trying to get my files off internal :/ good day turned to crap, thanks LG
There's really no use in speculating when we'll get 7.0. It'll happen when it happens. We probably won't get it until early next year, so not soon. We definitely won't get it when the v20 does, since it's LG's new darling, and they said it would be the first major Android phone to get Nougat. So of course they want it to be exclusive at first. Hell, LG might even change their mind and leave use stuck with Marshmallow. The v10 is already pretty much dead where development is concerned, why bother continuing to update an older device when there are better things ahead? Looking back on it, had I known in advance that the v10 wouldn't have much development, I probably wouldn't have bought it. This is my first LG and maybe my last. But it still works so I'm going to hold onto it until it dies. Lesson learned, life moves on.

I think so. We will get it somehow. Even if it is the last update I'm fine with it. At least well get some closure and hopefully the software will be similar to the V20. Perhaps the Vietnamese Rom cookers will do a port. I'm using the H960 20m port on my H901.
Second half of the year seems a bit long to wait but maybe there will be a working version of xposed for nougat by then.
It's coming:
