Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows of an app that tracks data usage and will turn off my data connection when the cap is reached but also has a password option to keep my kids from turning the data back on after the cap. Or just a parental control app for controlong data usage. Any ideas

I have a need to turn off wifi and data on my son's phone and was thinking that an app which required a password to enable wifi and data would be a god solution. Does anything like this exist? My searching the market hasn't found anything.

hi, a friend of mine had a request to prevent the demo android phones placed at his shop from being locked by customers. how can i prevent the pattern/pin/password security locks from being activated, or how do i remove this feature from the demo phones?
thanks
Turn it off in settings???¿¿¿???
If you're talking about after it has been locked, reflash the software if it doesn't have a fastboot/bootloader/recovery reset.

If they're connected to wifi then install "unlock with wifi " on them and hide the app?

he's been doing reflash every time a phone has been locked, and its getting on his nerves as this happens almost on a daily basis. is there a way to rip the security pattern/pin/password functionality from the android framework? or is there any apk that we can remove from /system/app that will disable this functionality?

i think wifi is out of the question as he doesn't want passerbys to use his wifi connection for hacking/illegal purposes.
You can just lock down the WiFi with WPA2 and it will most likely not get broken into.

Download one of the many app locks and just password protect settings and then turn the pattern lock off..
//edit- Inside of the app lock see if you can only password protect display settings.. so customers can at least play with the other settings

Unlock with wifi is an app that uses trigger(a known wifi location) to unlock the screen...
It's not a tethering app.
So, what is this in reference to?
I'd expect that he might have a wireless router in a cell phone store already. And would know to encrypt it.

Does anyone know of an app out there that forces certain apps to only use the Data connection, even when on Wifi? I have a few apps that my company blocks but would like to keep updated through out the day. So if I am on a Data connection for that app, I can work around the Wifi block issue.
Thank you in advance

Looking for just the opposite. I want to restrict certain apps to data only, and not use wifi.
Dude, this is a BA app. I like it.

See this. Moved to Q&A.
Cheers
Okay, I am on ICS Leak#1 on AT&T Atrix2.
I was playing around with Smart Actions app and like to get few clarifications for my understanding.
1) Background Data Restriction --> What this really does? I searched around google and read no.of forums and bit confused because of more variant answers. I Just like to understand as what it does on our phone. From what I read, it seems when we disabled the Background Data, we can't access the internet via any app, how ever thats not the case from what I seen. Even though I switched off Mobile Data and disabled Background data still I am able to access the Play store as long as I have WiFi enabled. So I am just trying to understand what happens/restricted when we disable background data.
2) When we disable Background Data there is Notification gives warning about its disabled, is there a way to remove this. I assume no is the answer, still want to see as is there a option.
appreciate the answers. Thank you.
What restricting background data really does is that it stops syncs or automatic update checkups which run in background or any other app which consumes data while running in the background henceforth known as background data.however since you initialize play store and hence is not automatically initialized it doesn't count in background data and hence is not restricted.

Okay, Thanks for answer. It could be true on "background data" but It doesn't look like it stopping sync at all. Just for Testing purpose, using Smart actions I turned off mobile data and disabled the background data. This doesn't turned off "Auto Sync" even though I see the triangle notification warning about background data restricted.
When I got new mails, or when I try to push the app from web play store it works seamlessly. I am guessing its because of Auto Sync is on and I am connected to Wifi. In this case I am just trying to understand whats the purpose of disabling Background Data in smart actions?Looks like Background data doesn't do much when we have auto sync on. Unfortunately this app don't have option to turn off/on auto sync.
Well the data restricted is just the carrier data there's no restriction for data on wifi.well the way to restrict would simply be to turn the wifi off.

Makes Sense :cyclops: and thats what I did...So as long as we turn off Wifi and Mobile Data all is fine...I really didn't understand as why they have option for Background data hence the question...
I couldn't imagine legit scenario where we could disable Background data alone with out turning off Auto sync....so Adding that option in this app may make it much better app I guess...
Hello XDA community,
I don't know why my Tasker profile won't run. I am using the when wifi connected turn off keyguard profile. I am also using secure settings to turn off pattern lock. I am rooted. I have been meticulously *following several videos on youtube. The same instruction works on my brother's phone. *
As well as this profile. when near scanned cell towers turn on wifi. Exit task, turn off wifi when not near. It doesn't work.
Also, the profiles don't light up green. In the notifications, it says no profiles active.* Any guidance on this matter will be great.

Try enabling the new cell api within tasker
Hello i have enabled the new cell api but it still requires the password. It still requires me to enter my pattern lock password.
