Lots of apps want to populate your "Share via..." menu and from the reading I've done, Android provides NO way to edit the built-in menu. I did try a 3rd-party app that you could add/remove, shuffle entries, etc but some of the stock Samsung apps use their own share menu (mainly, Gallery) and I didn't like the inconsistency.
Of course, one way to remove items from the menu is to remove the app itself ! That leads me to my question.....
Why are apps that are NOT installed showing up in my "Share via..." menu ?? I have Picassa and Backup+ Media in the list but the apps are not installed. I suspect there's some non-obvious app-helper that's putting these here that I missed when de-bloating.

It has to do with it being coded into the package installer. There should be a mediauploader.apk that registered Picasa to be available for uploading. If you delete or freeze it, it might go away. I'm not exactly sure what would happen, but I know that's where it's located.

mediauploader.apk ? It is only for Picassa ?
Edit: Moved it and that took care of Picassa. Now to find the Backup+ helper app...

Is there an app folder that can categorize apps? Just like Iphone 4, where you drag the app to the folder, it automatically categorize it, so as to save space... Thanks
Where are you looking for this folder to be? Home screen? Application drawer?
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
I use ADW Home, and there's a great new feature where you can categorise your app drawer... basically means you can hide stuff you don't want to see... you can't just hit one folder to see the hidden stuff, it's like press munu, then activate a different drawer group, but it's easy enough.
There are also some aps out there that do what you want, but I can't say what they are, nor have I used them.
i have ihome, this app mimic the iphone 4, the folder feature is very disappointing. but atleast its there...(no auto cate on droid.)
the home screen is 89% like iphone. atleast they gives you the iphone homescreen only it isn't smooth as.
Try FolderOrganizer

Home screen, just like ICr*p 4 when you tap on the folder, the sub-folder appears.
You can add folders on the home screen just like widgets then drag the applications inside it.
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
There is an app I think called apps organizer that lets you categorize apps, then you can add widgets to you're screen that look like an app shortcut, for a particular category, and when you tap it a folder with shortcuts to all apps in that category opens. I think it is apis organizer, I will go check in market. I had it before the last time I reset and debranded, actually never thought to reinstall it until just now.

Is there a way to categorize apps into folders Within the App drawer?
i dont really like cluttering up the homescreens but i would like to neaten up the app drawer as its full of crap that i hardly ever use but would still like to keep on the phone (google goggles, wikitude, google skymap) things like that
I use the feature in adw. The only improvement I would like to see is an easier way to switch drawers, perhaps icons at the top or bottom of the app drawer.

I would like to disable SMS/MMS on my phone, and just use google voice. In fact, I don't even want the messaging app.
How do I delete completely, an installed app that's "built-in" to the ROM?
If you have root, you have two methods:
1. Titanium Backup and uninstall it.
2. Root Explorer to /system/app and delete mms.apk.
I'd make a copy for backup, just in case.
Don't delete it ... that's asking for issues.
You can replace the icon in the dock easily (app drawer, menu, view type, customizable grid, menu, edit, drag desired icon over stock icon, menu, save, menu, view type, alphabetical grid).
In the messaging app (inbox, not within a message), menu, settings, uncheck Notifications.
That way you can just ignore the stock app. It will be pretty much like its been uninstalled, but without the issues that come up when you remove stock apps.

I'd presume that OP doesn't want to receive texts at all, thus preventing him from getting charged by ATT. While I'm not sure that yanking the APK will do it (maybe change your SMS retrieval number?), it's more of a step in the right direction, as hiding notifications just hides the fact that texts are coming through.
If the OP wants to block texting, a call to AT&T should fix that.

Just delete the SMS center number in messaging/advanced settings. Without that number, the phone can't retrieve the message. To disable mms, just uncheck mms retrieval(or something like that) in settings.
I'm running MIUI, and I completely uninstalled the stock messaging app, using Handcent in it's place.
Aren't you able to freeze the sms. apk using TiBu or is that only available with the paid version?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I think that's a paid app feature. But, you need root to use it.
How do I get dedicated apps (YouTube, Play Store) to open links and not the browser/chrome?
The only way I have found it to work is to not have a browser installed. On my tablet links open up the apps but with my Rezound the browser takes over and by default opens all links.
The settings don't mean anything and no prompt even comes up when clicking a link asking what app I want to use to open said link, it just goes to the default browser automatically.
It like this on three ICS roms on my Rezound I've used.
There is a App Associations setting in the settings menu that seems to be messing up the way that it works.
From my experience...go into the settings menu of the the handset and select apps. Next scroll to your current browser under the applications list and click on it.
Then scroll down all the way and select 'clear defaults'. Confirm. That should do the trick and whenever u click on any link in any app it will prompt you to select an option such as YouTube or browser instead of just opening up automatically in a browser.

That's the deal, clearing defaults doesn't do anything . There is no more prompt, just launches the browser.

Did anyone resolve this issue? I also have link association issues unique to ICS as well. For instance, I used to (w/gingerbread) be able to click a video link in google+ then it would ask what I wanted to view the video with (browser or YouTube), now all web links open in the browser only, no questions asked... What is with that? Same with links in gtalk.
Nope it a HTC issue

HaloShortcuts
Coincidently, there's another HaloShortcuts by @MainstreamStereotype that is similar to this one. :silly:
His has an additional feature and that is the ability to choose Activities within an App.
Please check his out also :good:
What?
A shortcut selector to add a shortcut in floating mode on homescreen or for apps that uses shortcut selector.
It adds a shortcut with the intent flag 0x00002000.
For?
For ROMs that make use of the intent flag 0x00002000.
Examples include Paranoid Android ROMs with Halo.
(This might work with OmniROM's MultiWindow but I need someone to confirm before I write it down. )

This app only makes shortcuts with the halo flag. It doesn't affect the launcher. It has probably been redrawing ALL the time but you only notice it now since it is floating and not fullscreen.
I never get redraws this app actually crashes my launcher so it has to restart and I only get this issue with this app

Is it the actual running of the app itself, or the launch of a halo shortcut created by this app... that is causing the redraw? What Launcher do you have and rom?
It happens when I launch an app from the shortcut I create with this app I use the sense 5 launcher on a HTC one x thanks for replying it's viper x Rom 4.0.6

@smeejaytee
First thing I would try is downloading an alternative free launcher eg Go Launcher. Install, and do a quick test to see if a new Halo shortcut causes the same issue. Should take 5 minutes. Then if you still have the issue, then it's probably rom related. BTW, do you have any other rom features enabled that might be interfering? (eg Multi Window or something like that)
No nothing that would interfere although the room is heavily modded but floatifications works fine and open halo from notification also works I do get an occasional fc though had that problem since version 2.0 of xhalo appsi also works ok I don't really want a different launcher because of BlinkFeed but for trying purposes Ill try thanks for replying

Is it possible to update this app to create shortcuts that point to "Shortcuts" in Android as well instead of just app shortcuts?
You know, the screen when u long press on the launcher and you get this page to create direct shortcuts to contacts, bookmarks, gmail labels etc.
Because it would be handy to create shortcuts that link to specific functions inside apps instead of having to launch the apps in windows mode and then navigating to the required functions i.e. shortcut to a specific whatsapp contact, specific settings screen.
Do consider it, or if anyone has a solution do let me know, thanks!
I hope the thanks received from zst123 means this request has been added to some to do list out there?
edit : oh man, another thanks. Don't tease me...SAY SOMETHING! Or should I keep posting to accumulate thanks?
how to check intent flag?
works great in s3 omega rom when using it as a launcher icon, or through glovebox.. BUT if you want to use LMT launcher that doesnt support system shortcuts but support tasker... launching tasker task--> autoshortcut plugin --> haloshortcut... doesnt work.. the app opens in fullscreen
Hey guys,
I posted this twice on Disqus on the XDA News Commenting but somehow it didn't show (internet failure?) and I'm typing this again.
I'm really lazy to retype, so in short, I created this in Sept in my XHFW thread in this post's attachments
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45669212&postcount=476
A few weeks ago, I improved it and posted it in this thread. However, a recently I saw this post on Google+
https://plus.google.com/117734680838440546478/posts/cbXCgnjTAwj
where Matthias Bidlingmeyer had created a similar app with similar name. That is is better than mine in the sense that it has the ability to choose individual activity for the chosen app. It coincidently was posted a few days before my thread was opened. I didnt't know it existed and of course didn't copy it. I hope this would clear things up before the "you copied me" fight starts. If I had known it existed, wouldn't you think I would also implement individual activity support? The other dev does deserve credit. This is purely just a coincidence (sadly)...

It's not better if it doesn't do shortcuts. Seriously, how many here understand what each activity in each app does?

It has to do with the way the plugin handles the created shortcut. So I can't really help you in this

See the attachments for a screenshot of his app. For example you could create a shortcut to go directly to the WifiSettings instead of the main Settings page when you have to do one extra step. An Activity is the proper Android term for a "page" (not really a page but I can't think of a better word)
Anyone had any success in removing widgets from their phones? I was able to do it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 10.1 but cannot do it on the Moto 4g LTE. These widgets are not in the Setting/App section. They must reside somewhere in the phone. I have ES File on my phone so if I can find the directory I should be able to remove them.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Motorola doesn't have 100+ extra widgets as separate apps like Samsung does, they are just the widgets of your normal apps (like calendar, browser, gmail, hangout, etc... You can't remove them from a file, but you can do it with autostarts (it's an app, look for it in play store, has a car icon, and requires root)
