The swedish car dock/phone holder maker brodit.se confirmed to me via email earlier today that they are working on a car dock/holder for the Z, but he couldn't say how soon it would hit the market.
I use a brodit.se for my G1, and I love it - so much better (both looking and functionality, i.e. it stays in place, guaranteed) than sunction cup solutions or ventilation clip holders.
̃ Christopher
sounds great! Can you get one and test it for me? =)
brodit.se tend to be pretty quick to make car docks whit chargers for htc phones. I'm guaranteed to procure me one. I'm sitting in the truck throughout the hole work day so I need it
then I have ordered the car dock with charger ..
http://twitpic.com/34p7xl 95,38$ delivery on door.
Got mine today, went for the Active Holder Tilt Swivel With Cig-plug. Early impressions are it's really solid and just what I was looking for, good quality charger with it as well. Would deffo recommend it to anyone who is after a powered car mount for the Z/G2
Got mine from DSL Developments who's service was spot on. Ordered 3PM on Monday, was in my hand Tuesday morning.
Could anybody confirm if it's still possible to put a phone to one of these chargers with any of protective hard or soft cases added? Or it just fit's in "naked"??

I would think you would not be able to get it in there with a case on, it's a pretty tight fit, and non adjustable.
Sorry, but it won't fit if there's any sort of cover attached, there's absolutely no additional room.
I found out that my new Z actually fits in my Brodit passive (no charger) G1/Dream holder, so I won't order a new holder just yet. For some reason they have chosen to not release a passive holder which rotates, which I think sucks - even though you're not supposed to text in traffic, I did sometimes, when stuck in traffic or at red lights, send of quick messages or emails, and it's so much easier IMO to work on the physical qwerty keyboard in landscape than the on-screen portrait keyboard.
The old G1 holder does swivel, but unfortunately the keyboard is not possible to open while the Z is in the holder.

Got my active Brodit holder a few days ago, fits the Desire-Z absolutely perfectly, and their matching car mounting plate is great for my vehicle too. Their stuff may not be cheap, but it's far-and-away the best on the market.
Andre
Do you guys think my DZ will fit in the Brodit active holder when it has a full body protector?
Sorry, no. Brodit mounts fit the phone just as snugly and perfectly as any of the covers do, but because of that they don't give any extra gaps around the phone.
Andre
I have mine for a weeknow. Fits perfectly like every Brodit i had before !!
can the desire z recognize if it is in a car dock when putting it into the active brodit mount?
I want to use tasker to enable gps when the Phone is in the mount.
Don't think so,
You could just say:
If not near home + charging then -> Activate GPS + activate car controls
or something

There's some stuff in the DZ user guide about the phone being able to recognise if it's in a car dock. No idea how it does this though.
I consider getting this: http://www.brodit.com/montering.jsp?anr=512200
I never used their products, so I have a few questions for those of you who already puchased one.
1. Do I need to buy a "Pro-Clip" designed for my car, is it already in the package, included in the price, or maybe I can just mount the holder as it is whithout other clips? It's not so clear to me how to mount it...
2. If I need screws, clips and stuff like that (as I see on the instructions) will I be able to quickly dismount the holder e.g. to use it in another car, without tools?
3. I would prefer the same product, but with a sucction cup for easy mounting on the windshield. Can I find a model like that, or a "Pro-Clip" for windshield mounting etc.?
4. Will I be able to use the audio jack, or is it covered?
5. Finally, can I adjust the holder position a little (upwards, downwards, left, right), or is it fixed? I understand that I can tilt it o have the phone in landscape, but are there other adjustments possible (with or without using screwdrivers or other tools)?
Thanks!
1. You will need a pro-clip for your car. Some online retailers bundle them in, you'll know because they ask you what car you're installing it in before you checkout.
2. You can get a Move Clip which enables you to slide the holder in and out of the pro-clip. For example: http://www.brodit.com/productinformation.jsp?anr=213005&sortiment=s800
3. Not that I know of.
4. The audio jack is not covered.
5. You can swivel it, rotate it, slide out the keyboard, everything. You don't need tools to do it.
Thanks for the answer!
So, basically, I install a ProClip designed for my car, then over it I mount the Move Clip, and on the Move Clip I mount the actual phone holder? Just checking to see if I got this right, so I can order those three products...
I don't like it too much mounted over the A/C vents, but the actual phone holder seems to be the best available. If there really is no choice to get a windshield ProClip, I'll go with the this Central Mounting here: http://www.brodit.com/montering.jsp?anr=852285
I'll have to change my car in a few months and I'll get another ProClip then, but still be able to use the holder - that is good.
i ordered the active mount from brodit and for mounting it in my car i got a car mounting kit with the possibility to mount the dock to the wind shield.

Trying to get some feedback on build quality and performance with the htc car kit dock. Anyone get it yet? Pics? I'm leaning towards getting it since I have the N1 dock and like the look of it.
Thanks
im curious on this as well. i like the look of it though the holder part looks like cheap easy-to-break plastic. is this so? and how well does it mount in vehicle. and is it easy to take on and off without needing screws or any damaging/invasive mounting?

It mounts via suction cup on the bottom to a window, flat surface or a disc with tape on the other side. It looks exactly the same as the N1 mount with a holder for the S4G. The plastic the holder is made of doesn't look as sturdy as the holder for the n1 though. At $65 I wanna hear some feedback before buying it.

saw those - expansys and htc-uk are the only places that I've found it for sale
I'd also love some feedback before throwing away almost $70. If its a high quality dock, I'll get it, the N1 dock was pricey but worth it, however it also came with bluetooth and built in speakers...
That's an interesting design. The base looks solid, just like the N1's dock, and I loved mine.
Hope this one actually holds the phone well. It does look a little flimsy.
Just gotta find somewhere in my car to actually mount it without it being in the way.
I'm going to checkout expansys' return policy and bite the bullet. I got a better idea of what's going on with by looking at the Desire dock. That image in the first post is at a horrible angle. It looks like the Desire dock with different placement of the black bar that has the microusb plug. The brown plastic the phone sits in is kinda see through. It looks like HTC is using that black bar + brown holder as a basic form for their docks now. They all have the same base and arm. I'm thinking the charger is similar too. I plugged the adapter cord from my N1 charger into the S4G and it went from 70% to 100% in maybe 15 minutes - much faster than every other method I've tried including the stock charger.
I have this dock, and it is perfect quality.
I kinda not like the degrees of rotation which are limited in one way, so it is hard to find the right way to mount it so you can use it landscape and portrait, but I have a strange mounting-angle in my car so you probably be just fine.
The moving parts are tight enough, even on a bumpy road it does not change position.
Phone goes in perfect, and the usb connector can move on a little spring so when taking it out, bending it, you will not damage the connector on the phone. It's getting used to putting it in, but once you know it you be fine.
So, good thing, good quality, good holding of phone, can recommend.

Thanks, I think I'll order one on Friday.
Brodit has offered a sensation doc in pre-order now, might be worth waiting for it. I loved the brodit products ...
I will make pics, hard to make pics with the phone when it is in the dock Need to fetch another device for that. Maybe tonigt.
I'm mainly interested in some pics of the dock.
Sorry I posted in the wrong area.
Pic and vid for you.
The mount to the dashboard is self-made! The carkit has a sucktion-mounting, I made something myself to mount that sucktion plate to.
It clicks in really tight. Connecting it goes very well, just get the feeling.
Releasing it by pushing the right small piece that is sticking out, then it releases. It sits very good and stiff.
You're the man Riel! Great work on the vid, pic and mount!
Very cool. I'm getting that. HTC owes you a commission.
Nice.
Nice work, Riel.
I just have one concern: do you all think the device will still fit inside the mount, even whilst wearing the "barely-there" case from Case-Mate, for example?
I often rely on my phone's GPS, since I travel out-of-state alot... but I'm also not sure I want to snap off the case every time, just to place it in the mount.
Any insight?
Sweet, thanks for the video. Looks to be just as good build quality as the Nexus One car mount, and that thing was damn solid. Glad to see HTC didn't skimp on this one either.
Looks nice, but $65 is insane! You could buy a dedicated GPS for that price (and that would come with a mount).
This is not a cheap setup, but nothing über ever is though is it.
Luckily T-Mobile decided to use the 17mm standard that Garmin uses for ball sockets so we can share accessories for them.
Parts Needed
ProClip mount for your vehicle - $30
(Optional) ProClip Dash Express GPS - Device Mounting Adapter - $25
Arkon Garmin 17mm ball to AMPS adapter - $8
T-Mobile G2x car dock - $30 or $10 on ebay
Process
Attach the ProClip mount to your car
Attach the female quick release to the mount
Attach the male quick release to the ball adapter
Connect quick releases together
Remove the phone holder from the windshield mount
Attach phone holder to ball mount
The quick release is optional, you can connect the Arkon ball adapter directly to your car mount without using it. I have several other devices I place there though so by having the quick release on all my devices it makes swapping them out very simple.

I found the stock mount to be frustrating at best. It also caused my phone to overheat and trigger battery overheating alerts which I've never seen before anywhere else. The sun here in FL heats up the back of the holder which then heats up the phone causing it to have issues so having it in the window is not an option here. I also had to remove it completely from the window every time I wanted to put my sun shade up which is also a necessity here. Also the power cable snaking up to the windshield is unsightly and obnoxious.
Plus the window mount is just ugly in my opinion, I'd prefer to not have to look at it since it makes my car look ghetto which I do not want.
I went ahead and got the same setup as you, but I decided against the quick-release part. Also, instead of paying $29 to T-mobile for their holder, I found the same LG OEM holder on ebay for $10. But I got the Pro-clip mount like you, as well as the 17mm ball adapter from amazon.
Mine seems like it will mount in front of one of the in-dash a/c vents. That could be good during the summer, as the cold a/c will be blowing on the back of the holder. But I guess I"ll have to close that vent in the winter when I use my heater, lol.
Although, I"m sure yours will look slightly sexier in your corvette than mine in my malibu, lol.
I'll update the OP to have the eBay reference instead, that's a good one to save costs. I had gotten mine the day I got the phone so I at least got the 30% off of it but it's still way too expensive for what it is. Doing the cheaper T-Mobile mount and not doing the quick release makes it a much cheaper setup, and it's nice and stable. Also useful for those states like Cali that don't let you place items on your windshield except in very specific locations.
Yeh, I think with all of the components ordered, my total was about $58...definitely less than I had anticipated spending, so I'm very happy about that. I couldn't have made the decision without your review, so thanks again.
Can you guys point me to the phone holder with the ball mount "receiver" (into which the ball goes) on it?
Every G2x car dock holder I can find is just attached to a crappy suction cap arm thing. So, to reiterate, I need the thing the phone goes into (like a case) but with a ball receiver on the back.
thanks!
It's the LG G2x car dock that you buy from either T-mobile or you can get it cheaper on ebay. You just toss aside the suction cup assembly and use the holder with the other parts that are clearly listed in detail in the OP.
Btw, brentil, did you have to drill out the ProClip bracket? Or did you use screws instead? Because the mounting holes in my bracket are very tiny (too small for the nuts/bolts that came with the ball assembly) and are only about half-depth. The two options I see are, drilling or switching to screws instead of bolts...which direction did you go?
Mine actually came with screws and bolts. I bought mine 3 years ago though. They are small pointed screws.

Hi, brentil,
Just a note of thanks for the "heads-up" about LG and Garmin sharing the same 17mm ball-mount. My G2x will be sitting on the Garmin "beanbag" mount in a rental car in the next few weeks and I have the feeling that the Garmin windshield mount will be a lot less vibration prone than the OEM LG.
You RULE!
P.S. (everybody): slkwirelessessentials, on eBay, has the OEM LG 2X/G2x car docks for $ 7.99 with free shipping. They come in beat-up boxes, but they are new (they also have some "used" ones for a little less).
Busted out my calipers and was super excited to see them read 17mm since I knew that was a Garmin standard.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I already have a proclip mount for my garmin, this is damn handy. I've just placed an order on ebay for the LG dock. That with a cigarette lighter adapter for USB should handle everything I need. Thanks for the info guys.
just a heads up. placing in front of air vent is not a good idea. it caused issues with my hd2 by causing condensation to build up inside the battery area.

Hi Everyone,
For this Black Friday - Cyber Monday I am looking for a car mount for My Note 4. I have a Spigen slim armor on and my phone width is about 3.5 inches. Way to big for my old iottie. what do you guys use?
Right now I am looking at the Kenu airframe+ but I think the price is ridiculous.
Thank you
http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Adju...qid=1417203083&sr=8-8&keywords=kenu+airframe+
anyone use this and does it work?
I don't think hanging a heavy Note 4 off of your AC vent is a very good idea.
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-Windshi...8&qid=1417205916&sr=1-9&keywords=note+4+mount
What do you think of this?
What do you use?
Do NOT hang your Note 4 off your AC vent !! I broke part of my AC vent that way.
Buy the choetech t510 Qi wireless car charger from amazon. It fits all oversize cases+Note 4. Then use outdoor scotch permanent mounting tape and stick it to a flat area of your dashboard vertically. you get that from home depot or equivalent. its a grey tape with red peel off dual sided stickers.
Works perfectly.
I've been using the universal car dock from Samsung and it has been working great. I used a 50% off code and got it for 25 bucks so not bad.
Don't agree with you

I've been using Airframe Kenu Plus (search on google)
I've used it with my g2 and now with my note 4, and it's working great.
Due to the size of the Note 4, I would say a car mount would be difficult to use; the weight might break the vent; magnetic qi mounts-- how much support will the magnets offer? And for the regular suction mounts, I'm not sure how much weight they can take. I've been using a techmatte progrip car mount, and it worked very well for my iphone 5s when I had that, but now that i've switched to android (note 4), the phone doesnt even fit in the mount. I doubt the suction would be strong enough to support it anyway.
I use this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00408B7ZU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
with this http://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Holder...&qid=1417724512&sr=8-1&keywords=iottie+note+4
Working pretty good so far.
I am using the Spigen Neo Hybrid Series Case. http://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Note-C...178&sr=1-13&keywords=spigen+slim+armor+note+4

Best carmount i found by accident while shopping at my local electronics store was called Magic Mount, it has several different ways of mounting your phone. but its all by Magnets, 100% safe. They provide you with several options of a magnetic mount i chose the surface mount, and a very thin metal plate that can be applied by adhesive on to the phone or case. 2 metal plates were provided to me with the service, one for a phone and one for a tablet or which ever device i choose. ill tell you this thing can hold really well. its great because I would always put my phone on my seat or cup holder, but what if they are both taken up by someone or my cups, then back in the pocket it goes where i can't change my music. id highly recommended this to anyone. its fast, easy, and no stupid bulky cradles.

I use a dash mounted grip - works in horizontal not vertical and fits any phone up to 6 inches https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spigen-Ste...1786&sr=8-1&keywords=spigen+car+mount+stealth
I'm using an AnyGrip 100 MD.
* It is a dashmount and my dash isn´t real flat but bended (A Volkswagen Golf VI).
* Non adhesive (but you can use the provided 3M pad) and it's very very sticky!
* Even with my DBrand skin it sticks real good.
* It doesn´t leave any mark.

As others have noted, CD slot mounts are some of the worst in the "strong" department. If you look strong look into the Ram X Mount. But be prepared for the industrial anesthetic. I drive a Jeep Wrangler and love it, holds the phone firmly even when driving over rocky off road terrain. But I don't know if I would buy it for a passenger sedan.
Kenu Airframe+ as long as your car has the vents like shown in the pic is amazing!

I'm currently using an iOttie easy one touch 3 suction mounted to my windshield with my 6P. Even though it seems secure there is quite a bit of flex while driving. I drive a Ford Ranger so you feel every bump in the road, even on surface streets. I'm considering upgrading to a RAM X Mount myself(most likely rearview mirror attached mounted on an arm) not sure if it's worth the extra expense however.
Do you use a suction cup with your X Mount?

No, I pulled out one of the screws for the sun visor and replaced it with this

Then I attached the X-grip

to the ball with this

On the Jeep the screw for the sun visor is M8 so this is a fairly clean setup. The X-grip is on the left side of the steering wheel
Is it worth the expense? It depends. There is still a decent amount of play and vibration, especially off-road, but there is zero change of the phone coming loose which is good enough for me. I don't need to read anything on the screen, I just need to be able to see a pre-defined route on a topo map. If I were to do it again I would probably not use a double-socket swivel arm, because the extra joints introduce a lot of play. You get to position the phone perfectly but it does vibrate when there is decent shake in the vehicle.
Brodit proclip.

Personally using a Logitech +Drive car mount. Its operates through magnets and they come with a metal plate which is adhesive but i don't peel off the adhesive protector and chuck it in between my case and phone. I mount the dock on my dash with the included base plate that has a 3M adhesive on the bottom. it would work both on your windshield and your dash because it uses suction cups which have not deteriorated after a year of usage. pretty much the best magnetic mount in australia you can find.
