[Q] Mix up JB with HC modem.bin - Galaxy Tab 7.7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
maybe this is a stupid question, but I want my silly problem go away.
Current situation:
I bought my Tab last year in Austria with Honey Comb 3.2 stock rom installed. Every thing was fine, except sluggish reactivity of the tab. Especially GPS worked very well even in flats:good:. After installing stock ICS GPS didn't work as expected. With the austria version of ICS GPS was able to find a few satelites, but not as much as with HC. Fixes were only possible under clear sky. Using the tab for car navigation was not possible any more:crying:. The change to roms from other locations made things even more worse. Even with all the tweaks available from the internet GPS did not work as it should. It needs minutes or hours for a fix and loses the fix instantly or after some seconds. New hope came up with the release of jelly bean. I've installed the xse version from indonesia via odin, made a factory reset and rebooted the tab. And guess what: nothing changed compared to ICS. GPS did not really work.
My idea:
As far as I know, the GPS functionality is implemented in the modem.bin. What will happen, if I combine the modem.bin out of HC with the rest of JB? Is it possible to combine parts of HC with parts of JB? Is there a chance to bring the the good working GPS from HC to JB:
Arathorn

you can flash the modem.bin
there wont be a problem and you might got what you have when you using hc.

[Q] ICS on GRK39F I9020A (Rogers)

Hello, everyone!
I have a Nexus S from Rogers, Canada.
The Build number is GRK39F
Baseband: I9020AUCKF1
I'm running 2.3.6 and I'd like to know if anyone here has updated to ICS successfully with this phone. I want to force the update but I'm in doubt if it is currently working well.
Anyone?
No official OTA for the I9020A yet, but you could always flash a custom ROM from the development section if you are rooted.
Still waiting for the official OTA for my Nexus as well, but I think I am going to try CM9.
I9020A ICS Update
My experience with the AT&T/US version is that I was on 2.3.5 and would not get any other OTA updates.
I did manually update to 2.3.6 and did not experience issues with it.
I then unlocked the bootloader and rooted. No change to experience.
I then flashed the official full 4.0.3 ROM for the I9020T (at my own risk!) and then flashed a compatible radio and did not have any serious functionality issues, but did experience quite a performance lag.
Based on this experience, my take is that there is much to be done for the official I9020A ICS ROM with acceptable performance, and if you are going to wait for official, you are probably going to be waiting for a while.
I have been very pleased with the performance of a custom ROM dedicated to the stock ICS experience along with the recommended custom kernel. Blazing fast compared to my short experience with the official. I have done this all at some risk, but the XDA community is pretty awesome and with a lot of reading of feedback put me at ease and made it very easy to experiment.
I feel your pain
Same situation as you, forcing the checkin doesn't work because there simply isn't an OTA yet for the 9020a
hope it get's here soon!
Cheers,
JM
Worked for me
I have a Nexus S from Fido and I'm using ICS.
I flashed this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20456900&postcount=1
I didn't have to flash a different radio or anything. It all seems to work great. Should be the same for Rogers network.
Hope that helps.
ICS on Rogers 9020A
I did the same as ProfBurz yesterday. So far so good. no issues with battery life of reboots. Having some fun with my work exchange account right now but I'm not sure that has anything to do with this ROM.
My exchange account works
My work email is functioning fine. It didn't work the first few times I tried though. No idea why, I rebooted the phone and it worked.
One thing I notice is my contacts with pictures show up pixelated when someone calls. Wrong image size or something? They look fine in text messaging, just show up enlarged when calling.
I have a i9020a on AT&T and here is my ICS info:
Verision: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: I9020xxKB3
Kernel Version (stock): 3.0.8-gb55e9ac; [email protected]#1
I am also running Nova Launcher (beta 13).
My experience with this has been very good overal. I had some initial problems with data speeds with an earlier radio (can't remember which one), but with the new one (XXKB3) I'm getting about 2mbps down and 1mbps up which is good for the area I am in. I was watching last night at work and I got about 10 hours on a battery and I was only at about 46% then with moderate use (internet job searching some pandora streaming ect).
And just for clarification, this is the 4.0.3 ROM for the I9020T, as mentioned by the_real_nwags.
The few complaints I have are minimal and forgettable, but the app drawer takes a few seconds to open (slight lag), but once your in the drawer everything is silky smooth. The other issue I have is Google Wallet doesn't seem to work. Now whether that is my fault or not I can't be sure . The only other issue I have is while streaming Pandora, sometimes it will get stuck "Loading" the next song, but that usually happens right before a comercial, it normally goes right to the next track without a pause.
There is a slight lag to the system, but nothing horrible... I have used worse. So if your interested in trying ICS, this is a good start. I am thinking about trying a new kernal for increased cpu speeds, but I don't know about that yet.
I have a nexus s i9020A on rogers and as long as you flash a rom with no radio, like CM9 or cyberGR. I also have the AUCKF1 radio and 4.0.3 and all is well make sure to download the auckf1 radio just in case your radio goes wrong somehow. Good luck!
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

[Q] TF101 B70 GPS dead

First Thanks for all / any help i can get ok so hears the deal
I have my B70 set up as a dash pc in a way. the only rom i can get the gps to even pick up 1 sat is prime 2.1.0 with gps.config mod with out 2.1.1 update all others fail to even see 1 satellite.
I have tried every ics based rom out. even unrooted stock nothing works. I have tried both faster fix and the gps.confg mods
The main reason i got this was to use it with my obd2 reader and track mileage and fuel as well as nav and yes it`s tied to my hot spot and has internet but without gps working it`s very slow and gets lost when the cars moving. The other thing is use it with netlflix over hdmi but hdmi only works on my tv with ics and it don't work at all with 3.2.1 based roms.
My b70 is sbkv1 i had luck on my side.
All testing on 100% clean installs. i don't do backups or install other stuff
the question is what you think i can do to fix this. i might just sell it if the one big thing i planed on using it for it can`t do. Unless i take it back to much older roms.
Roms tested that worked some but very little
Prime 2.1.0 and 2.1.1
Roms that don`t work at all
RevHD 3.1.0
RevHD 2.x.x (3.2.1 based)
C9 3/18/12
EOS 1.5
STOCK ROOTED .11 and .17
Stock unrooted 3.2.1 right out of the box lol
It about 3 months old i got it on my way to CES .
If i sell it is anyone here looking for one with dock and a car mount for cheap pm me

GPS strength problem after going back to HC

I tried out some ICS builds, none of them are close to ready for daily use as I use my TF as my primary workstation as I'm out and about a lot of the time.
One thing that really matters to me is GPS strength as I use offline navigation (sygic) and before upgrading to ICS I had great signal strength.
I used the super wipe (full wipe version) zip from ARHD mike1986 and reflashed a fresh install of revolver 3.11, which was my main daily driver before ICS.
However, my GPS signal strength isn't much better than it was on ICS, and I'm not sure what happened? I then used the NVflash version to ensure a clean install, although I'm pretty sure the super wipe zip does the same thing, just from recovery.
Does the ICS ROMs somehow change low level code aspects of the tablet that remain even after a full wipe?
I feel like my TF has been ruined by these ICS builds.
Any ideas?
My TF101's GPS could not get locked signal using ICS even outside under clear sky

Yes, ICS is a big fail with GPS, but honeycomb used to work great.
I'm back on HC 3.2.1 and it's not much better, so I fear something has been royally screwed up by whatever installing ICS did?
It's nice to be back on revolver 3.11, stuff just works again (GPS excluded) . I'm staying away from ICS builds for at least 2-3 months until it's reliable.
Mine has actually improved with ICS. I regularly obtain a lock within 5-6 seconds. With HC it took the GPS a minimum of a minute to lock.

Wait for OTA JB or go with EOS JB?

Was wondering should I just wait for OTA JB update or just flash custom EOS JB rom.Just restored my Xoom to factory about a month ago.I know how to flash/restore/recover from brick but just wanted some opinions on this.
Try it and see yourself. You might love JB so much, you won't want to wait for OTA.
Besides, EOS will give more features and performance enhancements.
my opinion
Use JB from team Eos is a GREAT experience...
You will love with its smoothness and responsiveness.
Now I use build #93, and its blazing fast. I love it.
I started use it since #84, #88 and #92.
I love this ROM, but now I think about going back to stock ICS, why?
1st, I notice that battery life still greater on ICS, even working on the same 3g network all the time. (I rarely use WiFi)
2nd, I found that on #93 'auto' brightness didn't work correctly, the screen won't decrease its brightness on darker surrounding.
3rd, I can't use Google voice translator, it won't recognize my voice.
That's why I wanna go back to ICS. Maybe my reason didn't bother you, but that's matter for me.
So, if you can ignore a little problem that you might find on JB, I can say that you should try it now, you will amaze for its smoothness.
But now, I will wait for a moment and go back to ICS.
It such a great great great experience with JB, an Amazing work by Team EOS:good:....
ota JB will have JB kernel and new binary file ( dirver ?) for camera etc , anc can upgrade radio baseband
EOS JB have ICS kernel , ICS (some HC ) binary file ... but have some tweak like over/down clock , color change of clock ....
no waiting
I didn't have to wait. I'm not rooted or invited to the soak test. On a whim I deleted the cache from the framework app and then checked for updates.
The OTA downloaded and I'm on 4.1.1 now. Your mileage may vary...
one more for EOS
I would consider EOS especially since returning to stock is relatively simple. My options for the update were limited - Canadian Eh
Also I've been using the ICS from EOS since I got my tablet -- May 3 rec'd the tablet and on May 5 I installed ICS using the nightlies from EOS, never looked back and have had few issues, none serious.
EOS roms and the Xoom- makes that 3 year old tablet perform like some of the newer wonder tabs and for way less money.
However you go, I am sure you will like JB android... it seems to be somewhat smoother and troublefree.

[Q] GPS never really gets fixed

Of all the roms that I've tried, most boasted of a fast GPS lock. It was anything but. Heck, even my old Samsung Galaxy Y gets faster GPS lock. Is it a software problem or a hardware one? Also, does this phone even include a compass? When I DO finally get a lock or use my wifi, I notice that the phone has no sense of direction. Is there an alternative?
I'm never buying from Micromax again.

First of all, Trying new ROM's involves risk! Do not blame Micromax, it's you who made the modifications! if you don't like the ROM's, Go back to Stock JB 4.1! Problem is with your knowledge, and unawareness, not Hardware nor Software.
As for your GPS issue, there are various patches for GPS, you can try that, I'm running UltrimSLIM ROM and having no such problem whatsoever, after flashing a GPS patch!
And our phone does not include compass so there will be no 'Sense of direction'!

I think it was implied that I moved from a stock ROM none of which have fixed the GPS. Its not that I don't like the custom ROMs. I love some of them. I've been trying many to see which one is able to get a lock as fast as most other phones do. Hence, my question.
Is there a problem with the drivers or any part of the software that the devs haven't modded yet? I'm not a very advanced coder so I can't really help yet. Yes, I've flashed patches. To no avail. I have to wait for over 2 minutes with turbo GPS 2 installed.
Another big question is: Why did micromax release a very buggy firmware and not take steps to fix it? 4.1 has memory issues AND GPS lock problem. 4.0 was alright with memory but not GPS. Who knows how 4.4 will be once they FINALLY release it?

Ah, that's what troubling me too!! Read lots of news, posts still no sight of KK. Some fake Firmwares are out there and that's all! And yes, Memory Issues were present in stock firmware!!
But I have to admit that I used Stock JB for 2-3 months and GPS was working fine for me! I even downloaded Sygic Maps that time and since, it became my favorite!
Why don't you try that app and also see YGPS from Engg. mode to see if you are getting a weak signal or no signal at all!
I shall try that then. Thanks
