i-Mate Ultimate serie ! I want one :D

And as fast as possible !!! Does anyone have a clue when 6150 will be out ?
I wish I could wait until 9502, but it was just announced... I don't think we'll see it before long.
Check it out !
http://www.imate.com/showProducts.aspx?skinid=1
GSM Arena lists that company in their ads.
They have it for sell at a very low price (for what a device and a launch price), but I'm not sure I trust them
http://www.welectronics.com/gsm/I Mate/IMATE-ULTIMATE-6150.html
9502 is ugly compated to 6150 imho
but imate used to oem from htc and now got a new
and untested oem provider i would
wait and see how stable they were and
how their rom leaking would be
or one could never upgrade it
I am pretty convinced that all iMate Ultimates are vapourwares
You know I too think like that (vaporware).
They announced the original Ultimate serives way back and still no sign. Worst of all the more interesting of those devices have been eliminated like the 7150 (tablet pc type)
Now we see fresh announcements so let us see what Imate does this time.
Frankly though I would like to see a strong Imate because HTC also needs some stiff competition and to date they do not have a real competitor.
Vaporwares ? Do you at least have an argument for that ?
Websites already had hands on some of these devices.
I've posted a link to a website which is currently selling the 6150, albeit I can't check it.
HTC also announces its next devices long before they are really sold (who has a Sedna right now ?)
I think 6150 and 9502 have been and still are the best, if I need a tablet form factor I'll look more into UMPCs.
No really not. I do not have any concrete evidence to confirm these devices are vapoware. It is only the reputation Imate has earned itself by announcing devices not actually seen for public purchase even long after Mid 2007 has passed by as promised on their very own website. What aggravated the situation even more for Imate is the fact that everyone knows that they have lost HTC as their ODM and so everyone is suspicious as to how they will fare with a new manufacturing partner.
As far as HTC is concerned they have a pretty good track record of delivering what they promise.
Having said all this I sincerely want to see Imate emerge as a strong competitor to HTC because that goes in the interest of us, the consumers.
Regards

Amazing stuff
'Conclusion
Both the iMate Ultimate 6150 and the iMate Ultimate 8150 are very capable handsets with lots of power on tap. The specs are excellent and both phones operate far faster than anything I've seen before. Videos are smooth, Office documents open quickly and complex Excel spreadsheets are handled without stress. The VGA output turns the device into a real mobile work-horse which lets you arrive anywhere and present a demonstration with nothing more than your iMate Ultimate and its' included VGA cable.
Although the somewhat angular lines and portly dimensions could make this a turn-off, it should be remembered that the final handsets will be built to a much higher quality and may be curvier and perhaps even a little sexier than these test units. Keep an eye out on iMate.com for further information.'
About this VGA out, can you connect it to TV?
Hmm, I think it needs VGA to RCA (red/yellow/white cable) converter cable?
Yeah I guess you need an adapter, I think only a XGA (btw!) out is provided.
The 9502 is listed with TV out.
edit: 6150 has VGA / TV Out
Nice device
Fabulous! I can't wait 'til it hits the streets here in N.Y.
The specs here: http://www.gsmarena.com/i_mate_ultimate_9502-2158.php
says it supports microSD (transflash). Does this mean it will also support the newer 8gb microSDHC cards?
Place in my area is supposed to be getting shipment of the IU8150 next week. Gonna go check it out and may pick one up to replace my Trinity. Only think it's lacking over the Trinity is size and GPS and that's not that big a deal since I find my bluetooth GPS reciever works much better anyways and I only use GPS in the car which is where I keep it.
Size doesn't look to be that different but we'll see, that's my only concern, been waiting for a VGA device with keypad for a long while, just wish it were a little smaller.
It's funny that no one can get it right. Why can't anyone release something like the 8150, just a little smaller, through in GPS and switch the T9 keybad to a SureType keypad. That would be awesome, seems like there's always one feature missing, guess it's really a matter of taste when it comes down to it.
If anything, I think Imate is going to give HTC a real run for their money. HTC has been regurgitating the same technology in different form factors for a while, will be nice to see someone finally give them some competition so we can see some improvements to the hardware.
Any chance you have same information about 6150 ? And where are you living ?
estimated time of arrival: Nov. 12, 2007
expected around 500€, really worthy... Can't wait !!

Anyone here in the tablet industry, your opinion?

Why do you think Viewsonic decided to put together a device with some of the best tablet hardwares out there and then put a crappy software interface on there? If a bunch of people online could put together a more stable and faster rom for free, why not a multi-million dollar industry?
I guess I'm wondering why these really big electronic companies decided to shoot themselves in the foot over and over.
Because they were first to market by about 9 months with a Tegra2 tablet. Everyone else (Motorola, Asus, etc) waited until nVidia had a stable SDK, before pushing their wares out, and even still, Motorola is the first to do it out of the big guys.
Viewsonic just made the mistake of going to Tap'N'Tap to get it done. They should have gone with a Tier 1 Android integrater, like Wind River (oddly enough, owned by Intel now). Wind River is all over this stuff and already has Tegra3 in their sights for early fall.

I agree!! Tap'N'Tap can't even design a good UI for their website (it's not even a website, really it's just a landing page), why anyone would think Tap'N'Tap can design a more difficult UI is beyond me. Lol.
http://www.tapntap.com/
You also have to realize that it TRULY isn't even a Viewsonic product. I don't even know what their true involvement is (are they the one's 'in bed' with tap n tap?)
US Merchants is re-boxing the Malata product similar to how Dell, HP, Acer does thier PC's. I still don't know how Viewsonic got involved, did US Merchants just need a big name behind them. I did get a number to a Rep for Viewsonic that I looked up in LinkedIn and she used to work for US Merchants (or maybe the other way around).
i wish I knew how this partnership came about?

Probably because Tap'N'Tap was the cheapest. Remember, to meet the price point, Viewsonic had to make some sacrifices. Look at the price of the Xoom and most of the other upcoming Tegra2 tablets. Viewsonic's price is HALF.
Plus, personally, I'd rather have the software be crap. Can change that and because of the awesome devs here, that's a reality.

Because Contract Manufacturing has now turned into Contract Engineer/Design AND Manufacturing. Most of the time, design is done in Taiwan, manufacturing in mainland China. It's been going on now for almost a decade (that I've personally seen). It's cheaper for Viewsonic and it's easier for a CMO to enter the US market that way. No one is going to buy a Malata product, but Viewsonic? Maybe. You'll see this a lot at Bestbuy, when name brand TVs look suspiciously like the no name brands.

Or no brand at all. I've seen quite a few of those in stores like best buy, office depot, etc. nowadays. They look and feel exactly like those made by the well known brands, but try to look for a stamp of the brand and you won't find any.
Speaking of which, is viewsonic a legit American brand or is it a company of 5 employees created just to slap an American sounding name on a Chinese product?

Best Buy has moved from generic brands to their house brand (Insignia). I have an Insignia Plasma, that is a Samsung Plasma (I took it apart, it's all Samsung inside).

Viewsonic still makes amazing displays (ironic with the crappy display on the G Tablet).

Most likely Viewsonic wanted to get the tablet on the market before Christmas to take advantage of the holiday shopping season - tablets were a hot commodity if you recall - and the state of the software was simply what was available at the time. Somebody had to make a call and they decided to ship.
Unfortunately that decision backfired on them because the software was not ready for prime time.

DOOGEE

i am looking into this name brand "DOOGEE" as a cheap way to get into the game (unless you can help me unhardbrick a S4,yeah ouch)
they have seemingly amazing deals, yet i am not finding a chat forum anywhere on the nets for them
this is a list of thier phones ( doogee.cc/en/gb/products.asp?cid=32 ) i am looking at the dg500 because of financial reasons
i figure if i could drop 350 i'd just get another S4 (which is what i want) but i just dropped 350 on the one i got, right before it bricked
SO ! anyone with knowledge as to where i can find a doogee chat forum (preferably with modding a highpoint) PLEAS link it for me!!!
On the Dutch website Tweakers.net a few people already got Doogee phones and to me it looks like a good brand when you want a bang for buck Chinese smartphone with an mt6582 chipset.
On the moment the DOOGEE PIXELS DG350 is on presale by Focalprice and I bought one for € 71,30 and that's a really good price for such a phone. And this brand seems to sponsor a Spanish football club orso. But ofcourse its a small brand, just like UMI, Jiayu, iNew, iOcean, etc and some off these brands sell the same phone, but then rebranded.

Chinese Smartphones & Security [Backdoors, Fake Apps etc]

Hi Android pips,
So as Chinese Smartphones becomes more and more popular and are pretty cheap with a decent specs I was wondering how does such market of a cheap and decent smartphones affects a security side of it and no I'm not talking about System Updates but viruses/backdoors itself placed in such devices if there are any ? I myself had recently to buy a new smartphone and didn't had much money so I have decided to go for Chinese smartphone and I got Cubot x12. The company seems pretty legit. What do you guys think about all of this ?

Top highlights in smartphone industry during May

In today’s information overload environment, I believe some of you are interested in the novelties and news in the smartphone industry but are overwhelmed by promotional articles and advertisements online. Don’t worry, let me summarise the latest information in the smartphone industry in May.
Industry insight
The smartphone notch is a status symbol. LG surveyed over 1,000 people across the US, UK, Italy, and Korea. The results show that only about 30 percent said no to it, while the rest of the participants indicates that they either liked or don’t mind the notch. So whether you like it or not, the smartphone notch is here to stay (https://www.engadget.com/2018/05/02/lg-g7-people-like-the-notch/).
Sophisticated Android malware tracks all your phone activities. An advanced type of malware can spy on nearly every Android smartphone function and steal password, photos, videos from apps, targeting at the subjects in the Middle East (https://www.engadget.com/2018/05/07/zoopark-android-malware-exfiltration/).
Company news
Apple faces camera patent lawsuit over iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The Israel-based startup Corephotonics filed a second lawsuit against Apple, claiming that Apple is coping its dual-camera system. It will certainly be interesting to see where this case goes. The Corephotonics have to show that Apple utilised the tech that the company presented in its meeting (https://www.engadget.com/2018/05/01/apple-dual-camera-patent-lawsuit-coretronics-iphone-x/).
China’s XiaoMi files for mega Hong Kong IPO. XiaoMi filed for a Hong Kong initial public offering on last Thursday, being the largest listing by a Chinese tech company in almost 4 years (https://economictimes.indiatimes.co...ts-lid-on-financials/articleshow/64008892.cms).
New Product
Coolpad launches Note 6 with dual selfie cameras in India. Coolpad on Tuesday launched Note 6 as its offline exclusive product in India which offer a great value for money smartphone. But given the fact that there are already strong brand like Honor and XiaoMi in Indian market, the prospect of Note 6 is not optimistic.
Honor10 launch event in London. Honor has scheduled a launch event on 15th May in London and it is highly possible that it will unveil the Honor10 smartphone at that time. Personally, the honor9 is a nice product that guarantees value for money so that Honor10 is worth expecting (https://www.facebook.com/honorglobal/ ).
Among these big things in smartphone industry, which one do you prefer or which one do you have comments on?
