Anyone seen anything like a camera lens protector? Just like a screen protector but just for that tiny rectangle over the camera. Obviously it would need to be super duper optically clear.
I ask because I notice that the glass (plastic?) covering my lens already has a tiny scratch in it. Fortunately it's just below the sensor (the "black zone") but I'm worried that I could get another one in a BAD place.
I've already ordered a case but none of the cases I've seen so far appear to protect the lens directly... They all seem to just have open holes in that area. I'm open to ideas if nothing exists or it's just plain impractical.
I agree..it would be reassuring. My martin fields protector for my old desire came with a camera sticker.

When you use the films of gadgetshieldz, you like the same protection for the camera.
I know the zagg HD screen protector isn't good enough for optical protection. At least looking at my screen, I see that it does distort slightly even though it was "professionally" installed.
I'e seen them available in china, one comes free with a screen protector.

So I managed to scratch my camera lens (well the plastic bit in the battery cover) now every single pic I take is out of focus.
Firstly any options other than replacing the back cover?
Secondly anything similar to a screen protector for the camera to prevent it happening again?

I don't think people sell a `back of desire lens cover repairing gel` if that's what you mean. You could google for it I guess.

Can you try using one of those cd/dvd scratch remover pastes if you have one? Think I paid about £2.99 for a tube of it a couple of years ago but you hardly need to use any of it so still got some.

polish it out. You can use Displex or other mobile-phone acrylic polish, or just use T-Cut or similar automotive polish. Did mine last night, hadn't noticed how scratched it had got until I took some before and after pics.
just buy a new battery cover there only lyk £17 direct from htc
You could just get a screen protector and cut it to fit the camera.
Seen a screen protector on play.com in the past which had what looked like a small lense protector with it.

Which one did you use, Displex? Because my camera lens has also a lot of little scratches.
I have a case-mate torque case for my desire, which has good camera lens protection. The moulding of the case around the lens prevents any contact between the lens and any flat surface. Could still be vulnerable if you keep anything sharp in the same pocket as your phone though.
Sounds like you will need to replace the back. Scratch removing chemicals may buff out the scratch, but could also cloud your lens over. Worth a try perhaps tho.

I think you are right and that I have to buy a new battery cover. But for € 5,00 I'll try that diplex first.
I use a simple android pouch at the moment, so no new scratches can damage the lens anymore.
Displex will do it, but so will any mild abrasive. T-cut, even. I used some industrial plastic polish.

could you not just get some screen protector and cut it to shape?
Mine was scratched to.
i had a dummy Desire in the store i work and changed my glass round thingy with the plastic thingy from the dummy..
works like a charm
I also had a scratch on the cover and took the hole lens-cover off and removed the tape. My pictures are much sharper with less flare
The camera lens is that much behind the battery-cover i dont worry about breaking it and it doesnt look bad bad either.
Martin Fields screen protector comes with a lens protector as well.
I'm wonder if I can take the camera lens (at the back cover) off and set it back after I've cleaned it, without any damage.

Hi, did you managed to removed the scratched lens cover? Last week my lens cover was scratch
Since my boss has been through this already I would highly recommend biting the bullet paying another £10 (on top of what you would have paid for displex) and getting the back cover, I have had displex in the past for only very light scratches and it didn't do jack all. Plus most of the time you can never get them back to how they was, It's a £400 phone treat it with respect!
Plus as above martin fields screen protector comes with camera lens cover and to be honest is by far the best screen protector on the market for two reasons:
1. It goes on like a dream, you don't have to sit there for ages getting silly bubbles out like Zagg invisible shield or normal cheapy screen protectors &
2. Its the smoothest I have used to swipe, you want a polished glass surface, not a resistant rubber protector!

How is the Martin Fields screen protector with smudging? I'm currently using a cheap £1 screen protector which looks and feels fine (a bit harder but just as usable) but smudges really easily - you can always clean it with a cloth but it's a bit annoying.
Thanks for all the replies. I went for the displex option (had some lying around anyway) worked a treat polished the scuffs straight out. Now to avoid allowing my keys and phone to meet again!

Quick question, I got my phone today but what are you guys doing about the camera lens? It comes out so far that many of the cases don't seem to protect it.
Does it need protecting or no?
The HTC Case (striped one) I felt was more of a stylish accessory as opposed to serving any function in protecting the phone. The camera still juts out of the back.
The lens seems to be recessed slightly, I don't think I would worry about it too much.
I'm sure you could find a way to stick a very thin amount of plastic on the metal ring just around the lens to help. Not sure how that would be done though
The Martin Fields screen protectors come with a lens protector.
i have the martin fields and it is fine. do not buy the nillkin, which also claims to include a lens protector. there is a selection of lens protectors with the nillkin, but the screen protector itself does not fit well. it's cut too small.
I plan on ordering a Martin Field's protector set next week. From what I've read, they're quite good.

Many of the cases don't protect? Most of the ones I saw did, most thin TPU cases cover it just fine, mine creates a substantial lip.
Hi
I'm just wondering if anyone has a lens protector.. or does it not need it?
When I got a martin fields protector for my htc desire it came with a lens protects.. but no one seems to offer these.. apart from Martin Fields.
I thought it was good idea.. I'm suprised my Spigen protector didn't have one.
Is the camera lens gorilla glass?
I've been using Best Skins Ever for literally every phone I've had (S2, GNEX, S3, S4) for the body protection. Their skins include a cutout for the camera lens part. I've always thought it was a good idea to protect the lens part because I don't think it uses any kind of scratch-proof material. Especially because the camera sticks out enough that it contacts any surface when you lay it on it's back. Here's the link if you're interested in seeing the cutouts for it: http://www.bestskinsever.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-skin

Only thing I would worry about isa lens protector degrading the quality of pictures. The camera is a big reason why I went for this phone. If you get a good case it will protect the lens. The otterbox commuter case I got sticks out past the camera pretty far so its fine.

Guys I am now using glossy screenguard ( I don't know which company) but it is sticky and fingerprint catcher thus the color reproduction is good...I have tried matte screenguard in past it was good in touch no FPs no sticks but the color specially white colour looked annoying) which type of screenguard do you suggest or use?
Sent from my GT-I9105 using Tapatalk 2
same here, matte doesnt look good on amoled,it makes it blur...i dont mind the finger print,so like u,i opt for clear type screen protector. i heard of diamond type, but i never try it,anyone did?
I just got the cheapest glossy one from eBay. I've tried mirror-like screen guards before, but I found that they interfere with the colours and luminosity on the screen.
Fingerprints are unavoidable on a touch-phone it seems :/
no screen guard here
i'm using my phone without screen guard more than a week and fortunately still no scratches
first i tried scratch above amoled area (around secondary camera) with sharp metal objects like needle or key or Stainless Steel ruler but no scratches at all.
please, if anyone used his/her phone without guard so it's screen had scratches tell me, because i can't stand smallest scratch on amoled screen area.
You should use a screen guard.you'll eventually end up with a scratch.i prefer matte screen guards, but that's just me.
I'm using a tempered glass screen protector. Thin despite being made of glass and no bubbles unlike plastic film protectors.

I've used my phone always without screen protector for about half year and I've not got any scratches on it yet so I think screen guards aren't worth buying

So I tried a matte screen guard - not recommended. It feels nice and fingerprints doesn't show as easily as on a glossy, but it adds a sort of colour-shimmer to the screen. Especially on white screens it is very noticable. I don't know if there are different kinds (different materials) of matte screen guards, but at least the one I have is not recommended.
Matte
My Vote for Matte Screen Guard Its scratch-less and very useful too

Mmm, that attracts me. What kind of review can you give about it other than bubble-less? Will the glass shatter if drop? Is it weighy?
I'm using matte belkin screen guard, seems like ok
So I planned on not putting my N5 in a case and possibly no screen protector either.... until I noticed when laying on the desk the camera is keeping it from lying flat. I am edging towards a case but just thought I would ask for the people that went naked. Shame since I absolutely love the feel of the N5.
Have you noticed any scratches on the lens?
This is not really directed at the person that babies their device like fine china.... more the person that will slide their phone across the table when trying to show a picture or something.
Haven't noticed anything on my n5 camera lens, but was wondering the same thing. I have my eye on a hybrid, clear backed, spigen case to show off the white back

@rans0m00 @CRIME INC. Same case fire me guys as much as I love the feel of the nexus 5 it always bugs me about scratching the lens that's why I bought this case from Spigen called "Slim Armor" or another case that's even slimmer is "Neo Hybrid" from Spigen

I ordered a nillken case last night. Will just see how it goes between now and then. Love Android phones but the camera sticking out just seems to be a weird trend with them.

I have had my N5 for 6 days now. It has been in an official "Nexus 5 Bumper Case" from the beginning, except for the few minutes while I installed a screen protector first. I've been pretty careful with the device, but I do have a small scratch on that giant camera lens cover already. Luckily, the scratch is near the perimeter and doesn't look like it can impact image capture. It is also a slight enough scratch that I cannot capture it in a photograph with my Motorola Atrix 4G, it has to be looked for to see it.
My screen protector is the SPIGEN Steinheil Ultra Crystal, which I am quite pleased with. It came with two screen protectors, so I am loosely considering cutting a circle out of the second one and fitting it to the camera lens cover.

Why didn't you just keep the stock one on it? That's what I did.
Also if any of you guys get a custom skin they cover the circle around the camera too. So it's a good option if you like to keep it without a case.

I can say with the nillken case I have it has faired pretty good so far. No camera lens scratches. Wish the camera didn't stick out... Case free would be nice.

If you're worried about scratching the glass you can get a caseology leather tpu case witch feels really good and almost naked like it protects the screen and the camera glass from touching your table or counter top surfaces. If you really like naked I suggest searching for some camera glass protectors yes they do exist or make a DYI one by cutting one into a circular shape

I'm very split on whether I should use a case on my n5. I've got a Spigen NeoHybrid on it, which is nice because it prevents the camera from popping out. I just really like the way the phone feels without a case. It's awesome. I just really don't want to scratch the camera glass. I wonder if the black ring will help at all.
Also, this phone has Gorilla Glass 3, I've got q screen protector on it and it's getting small scratches on the protector here and there. Does one really need a screen protector for Gorilla Glass 3?

This has been asked many, many times. Sand and dust can scratch GG3 so it can be worth protecting.
