Noob questions - Android Stick & Console Computers General

So I just got my stick last night and while my rc11 remote can turn it off it doesn't turn back on. Is the only way to power these up again a power plug pull? Or do people just leave theirs on all the time?
Thanks for your help and maybe we can keep this thread going for other noobs!

Unplugging and re-plugging is the only way. I leave mine on (but then again, mine runs my always-on IRC connection in the background).

Actually, I just remembered... On my model, at least, there is also a reset button in the hole across from the LED. But unplugging is easier.

If i want to turn mine on after its been powered down all i have to do is select hdmi on the tv remote & it powers up..
so to turn off,,power down then turn your tv to tv mode & to power up just select hdmi on the tv & it should power back up

My tv is getting pretty old, I'll try but don't think it'll work. That would be awesome though!
Thanks for your replies, I'm going to try leaving it on overnight and see how hot it gets. Can't be any worse than a modem or wireless router right?

Help! Dead phone!

This is my dad's inspire, running cm7.
He plugged it in overnight as always, and when he woke up, it won't come on. No light, no nothing.
Tried a battery pull, no go.
Anyone have a thought ?

If possible try and swap the battery for another one to see if that is the case. Maybe the phone didn't actually charge? Try plugging the phone into the charger and while plugged in start up the phone.
See if those methods help.
The same thing happened to me. Even though cm7 has a different load screen I took it to at&t , they couldn't turn it on either, so they just gave me a brand new phone!

Try holding down the down volume key and power to boot into HBoot.

Skyrocket not booting

I must've done something wrong, or maybe its hardware related, but my skyrocket won't boot. If I hold volume up and down and power all at once, Samsung flickers on the screen, so I know it isn't completely dead. Can anyone help me maybe restore it? Or any suggestions? Many thanks...

Check out the sticky in the dev section the all in one guide. And you can YouTube search it also.

If you are seeing signs of life, ie the Samsung logo flickering, I would expect you should be able to get into download mode and flash back to stock with Odin.

the battery is charged, and no, i can not get it into download mode. the samsung logo only flickers when i boot it with the volume up and down buttons pressed. it does do the power on vibrate, too...Im stumped. It worked great until lust the other day...it shut itself off and hasnt come back on. really sucks too, because i bought it NIB sealed on ebay about 2 months ago, no contract, so i cant return it...
If you don't mind me asking what exactly did you do to try and get into download modee

Pulled the battery, put it back in. held volume and and down while plugging in the usb. And i have done every button configuration and variation as well as used all the USB ports i have available on my laptop...just cant seem to get it out of a endless bootloop of the samsung logo. the logo only flickers for a split second...like if you arent looking for it, you will miss it...
Hell, ive even tried different usb cables from my old phones as well.
Were you flashing something when it shut off?

have you tried just volume down and plug in USB?
EDIT: if your handy with instructions you should Google search how to build a USB jig. Its fairly easy and would prob kick you into download mode. That flickering Samsung makes me hopeful. Usually you don't even get that with a hard brick.

you should still have a warrenty, regardless of where you bought it. if anything give Sammy a call.

what were you doing when the error happened?
have you tried to get into recovery?
when you go into download mode the samsung logo should never even come up...
I have indeed tried recovery and download mode. Its not going anywhere.. I will give the USB jig a try. I have plenty of donor cables and have resistors at my workstation at home...I'll put one together in the next day or so and report back with the results.
Edit...it was on the charger overnight and when I woke up it was dead.

USB jig did not work...oh well...

It happened to me on my new Skyrocket a few days ago- the phone just wouldn't turn on after charging overnight. I kept on trying - nothing. Checked battery - was showing full when plugged in, but still the phone wouldn't boot. I suspected it had something to do with the power button being too buried in. Finally I left it alone for a couple of hours...and then tried again calmly ...it turned on. Try some positive thinking..
positive thinking went out the window after the jig attempt... oh well, on eBay at auction for .99 cents to start...
Call the 800 number for AT&T's warranty department that's listed on your receipt. Have to jump through some hoops and answer some questions, but get angry and demand a replacement. They'll give you one.
I had experienced something similar just recently. I just took out the battery, made sure that the connectors were clean, and put the battery back then it worked again.
I seriously thought all this rooting and custom stuff finally caught up with me, but in the end, don't ignore the most simple solution.

[Q] I can't shut my phone down! just restarts!! PLEASE HELP

running cleanrom 3.0, no matter what option i choose in restart menu or shut down, it just does a hot restart
wish i could do a god damn battery pull
[EDIT] This self resolved this time but wtf??
To simulate battery pull hold power button it will blink a few times then turn off. Also disable fast boot in power options.

Yup. Its meant to work all the time, in place of a battery pull.

I had this same problem today.
But the advice given above didn't work for me?
I had to do a factory reset on the phone.
Then the trick to shutting down the phone is to do it BEFORE you set up the phone, immediately after the first bootup.
Just for the fun I decided to brick my phone on purpose. Holding the power button will effectively turn the phone off. Got back into my recovery and reloaded a backup.

Not much of a "brick" if you can just recover from a backup.
Shoot, then i probably brick 4 or 5 times a week

I also experienced this issue yesterday and was able to resolve the issue. Although I am running sick-sense, this might work for you to because I think the issue is kernel related. Try plugging your phone using the charger, and unplug it. see if it resolves your problem. Let us know if this helps so other who might encounter this issue have a fix.

P6210 power/boot loop

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIxqzRQ8dqU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
So I have a weird issue with my buddies p6210, it won't boot as shown in the video. It won't boot at all without being hooked up to the charger. When it is hooked up to the charger it does what it is doing in the video, I only hit the button once it was hard to hit because I have the back off. Also when going into recovery I was holding the volume button the whole time. I've also let it sit for about 30 min with the battery disconnected. Any ideas?
Sent from my Xoom using xda app-developers app
I think If it still with warranty you better take the shot. It does look like hardware fault. It could be a defective cable or charger but it is not very likely.

That's what I was thinking, looks like we will be RMAing. Thanks for the input.

[Q] HELP! Shield Not Booting!

Yet another issue with my shield but this I can't figure out. I was gaming through hdmi and after i was done i closed the lid and opened it, it would not boot. It WILL charge, the nvidia logo pulses and thats it. Computer doesn't detect it. Still no idea. It is rooted but was done properly and was done awhile ago. Is there anything to do to hard reset or boot the bootloader or anyway to boot like on android phones? Please help! (I will keep updated) Edit 1: hooked back up to tv, it detects signal but it's a black screen.
