it is unknown.. i saved a back up of my old efs folder.. will it help?? if it will how can i put in my device from my desktop?
i found a md5 file and a compressed file of my efs. how can i use it?
You could use a file explorer. Overwrite current .efs with the good one. Fix permissions & reboot. I don't know which file explorer you use. There are plenty of good ones in the play store. I use root explorer, but, it's a paid app.

just copy and paste it as it is? it is in .tar.md5
Did you use a program to back it up? Then use that program to restore.
If it's in a cwm backup, just extract with a zip program (winzip, 7zip). And yes, just copy/paste.
Check your file explorer, most have the ability to extract.

I used cwm on backing it up.. I restored my phone in stock I will try supermanager, will that work?
You might be better off doing one click back to stock again. Possibly reformat your sdcard. You should have imei back after one click

I originally rooted my 6210 with root.zip posted somewhere on XDA. I have tried the manual method of adding "media_rw" in the platform.xml file using Root Explorer, which I was able to do, but it turned off my internet connection when I rebooted.
I then reflashed with the stock ODIN, still no internet. I then rooted with Gary's 6210_CWMR_2010107.zip file and the Internet started working again and I was able to restore with TB.
However, the /sdcard/extStorages/Sdcard is still read only. I am using the 6210.
Any suggestions on how to get the Micro Sd card writable from the device?
Try this. Then check with Root Explorer to change back and forth permissions.

I tried that. I received R/W permissions to platform.xml, but sdcard/extStorages only has Read only permsissions. I put in the proper wording in platform.xml and it stuck, but no change to extStorages. The only thing that changed was I lost my Internet Connection.....Wifi still worked, just no internet.
Is it necessary to keep platform.xml r/w, or should I change it back to r/o?
Why dont you just download the files and flash it instead of changing the xml by yourself...

That is what I did. The sdcard/extStorages folder is still Read Only.
Is there anyone out there who can give me some real help.
Many thanks,
Awhile back I kicked the HTCalbum.apk photo viewer and now I cannot attach pix to the stock HTC email client.
Note: This apk must come from the stock AT&T Inspire GB 2.3.3 rom. Others Ive tried will not install due to the wrong size.

For some reason I cannot attach photos via my stock email client. I select attach gallery I get the "Sorry android mail has stopped unexpectedly..." Before I never had an issue. Awhile back I kicked there stock photo viewer out and loaded QuickPic. Now I cannot find the app that I kicked anywhere on the net. If someone has a copy of that app I would appreciate it. Or, maybe its something else.

Just download the rom that has it and unzip it. Then just take it out the app folder in system.

Thanks,

Thanks for the file, but like the other one I found it refuses to install. I get a window that says, "Application not installed." Looks like Im going to have to re-install everything... Unless you have an idea as to why.
Use es file explorer its what I use. Just go to settings on es explorer and at the bottom enable root explorer then enable mount file system then back out es explorer settings go to folder with apk in es explorer tap on apk it will as to install tap yes. Try that way itschow I mount all my apks

Again thanks, but it didnt work. This seems to only happen with sys files. Anymore ideas? Maybe the HTCalbum.odex is needed?
I think I shot something out of my file system. Probably am going to reinstall.
I have no more ideas guess reinstall would be best option now.

So what is the best way to back it up?
Please don't tell me to copy and paste it with a file manager
I hate to tell you this. Copy it with a file manager then transfer it to your computer. It's how you do it.
Honestly I've never had success backing up the efs folder. Every time I tried with any file manager it always failed to copy the IMEI.

Use Super Manager. I've restored mine with it before.
tar or cpio -- Using zip or anything related to Windows, especially a text editor, is just asking for trouble.
# cd /efs
# tar cvf /sdcard/my_efs_backup.20120816.tar .
then copy my_efs_backup.20120816.tar off your microSD and put it somewhere safe
Jeff... I'm not a Linux guy more of a Windows guy but am I suppose to put that in the terminal on the phone? And hechoen aren't there folder permissions involved when you put back the file?
I know there are apps that backup your efs but can I use them? Also somewhere in a thread there is a flash able zip that backups your efs, can it work with ics
I spent a few bucks and bought root explorer...no problems.

Yeah and it also seems that its the only file explorer without the bloat. Its pretty expensive for a simple file explorer.
But well worth it
I find adb a lot easier than the terminal on the phone. It's useful for pushing a file or two to the phone or vice versa without unmounting the microSD. Free too!

Any rom that installs with my aroma installer like most gb roms and a few ics roms make an efs backup in /sdcard/aroma-backup for you.
Also any ics rom that has used the cm9 update.sh script team acid made will back it up for you during the rom install (cm9/aokp).
But how about that flash able zip file from cm7 that backs up your efs folder?

The reason I want to back it up is because I want to flash back to stock using heimdall and there are those times that something could go wrong.

Nope. The folder already has the correct permissions. All you need to do is stitch the system to read/write then paste it back in place. I have used this method so I know it works. I do agree with Jeff though. If you know how to use adb it's a sure fire way to go. Just most users are clueless about it.

Lumins guide to using heimdall uses adb right? So can I backup my efs and flash heimdall afterwards correct?
This is the easiest way to make a backup:

And does it work with ics galaxy s beam?

Can you at least please provide the thread that the flash able zip is which is both the efs back up and restore.
Try looking at the url I posted above and see if you can figure out - on your own - how to back in to the folder FB posted both the backup and restore zips.
I'm trying to flash this recovery, but it does not seem to stick.
I have CM9.1, and i have tried flashing the zip and manually flashing the .img.
Both times don't work.
Any ideas?

Check with a file manager with root rights that you don't have install-recovery.sh in the /etc/ folder at the root of your phone.
If yes, delete it.

rather than deleting I suggest a renaming of the file to <filename>.<ext>.bak , as if he wants to return to stock , though I doubt that will ever happen

I got an update from them and I'm on Clean ROM with an unlocked bootloader. It downloaded automatically and when it shut my phone off to install, my ClockWork MOD said it was unsigned so I didn't install it.
If I install that will it re-lock my bootloader, and bring me back to stock and override my kernal and Clean ROM? I would like to know this before installing this if it's needed. Thanks.
Short answer: yes. Long answer: read the OP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575661

Try deleting file download in etc/fota and rename or freeze otacerts.apk and fwupdate.apk.
I'm stock, because. I don't know how to root, and the 4.3 is a massive disappoint to me - the battery drain is extraordinarily high. 3 hours of light use drained 50% juice.
On the VZ forums, people are livid.

I really dont think the OS has anything much to do with battery life. Maybe it changed some location settings which would drain battery.

Use root explorer or ES file explorer navigate to this directory etc/fota and delete any file in this directory if any. Then navigate to /system/app and look for these otacerts.apk and fwupdate.apk. Rename them to otacerts.apk.bak and fwupdate.apk.bak.

You just disable the software download service so OTA can't download anymore. If the file already downloaded, it should be in the etc/fota location and you don't see any in there right? if you don't see any then you should be fine now.
