Automatic Wifi/data switch - Android Apps and Games

Hello you all, this is my first post after a long search for an application I was sure to find but didnt.
Im looking for an app which can switch from wifi to data and viceversa, using the location of cellular antennas .
In other words the cellphone will turn on wifi and turn off data when the cellphone connects to a previously saved cellular antenna. If not, wifi will be off and data on.
I found "Sanity" and "Open signal" . The first app can switch on and off data/wifi, but on proximity sensor only. The second app can log the cellular antennas location and wifi location, but no signs of a switch.
Is it possible to combine this features in an apk to create an intelligent connection behavior of our cellphones?

Try Wifi Matic.. i was searching for the same thing... installed it on my phone..waiting to test it back home.. it claims to use cellular tower signal to turn data on and off with respect to location.. not the gps..please update if u are happy...

Y5
I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I think maybe you are looking for something like Y5.

This is the one you want, Smart Wifi Toggler

AutomateIt works very well for tasks such as this, and more!
It's a lot easier to understand than Tasker, but does the same job!

edit: [req + specs] turn off wifi when access points not available

Hi, I'm looking for a simple app that turns off wifi when it can't connect to the access points that I use.
edit:
the app I have in mind does the following:
Code:
ON POWER ON: check for (say) 30 sec. if a automatic wifi connection is established.
IF NOT: turn of wifi (if its on) and exit app.
ELSE: exit app
Maybe someone can compile such a simple app?
Wouldn't work... how will the phone scan for your access point if it's off.
a more feasible idea is an app that based on aGPS data, but it would probably create a net power drain.
phonealarm can turn on wifi once it detects the cell towers in the areas where you designate, such as home and work but nowhere else. of course, that's general location based...not specifically access-point based (turns off when you go into a basement and turns back on when you're up in the house)

No, no not a intelligent solution... Just a simple app that can notice that a particular access point is not within range when you turn your phone on..

Thanks, I will look into it. But I think it's just too much for me. I only want a app. that turns wifi off when I turn on the phone and one of my wifi ap's is not within range.
added a simple design for this app to the first post

[IDEA] WIFI Controlled by location

WIFI Controlled by location, eg. You select area's on Google maps for wifi coverage, wifi is turned on only for these locations and off elsewhere, saving battery.
If latitude is used then could location data be used from that service?
What do you think?

I would love something like this. Had a feeling something existed already but I can't find it.
check out locale
There's a free app already that does this--Y5 Battery Saver
Very buggy though when I tried it, so it wasn't usable.

i use locale for this. though i installed a cell plugin so it doesnt need gps to be on.
basically, it turns on wifi when im home and turns it off when i leave. apart from that... i also have locale turn off almose everything + brightness to 0% when i hit 30% battery.
lastly, i also have locale turn off syncing at night to squeeze in some more juice during the day without having to charge.
'Tasker' is good at this and then some!

Couldn't have said it better, better yet, I have it set to turn wifi on at home and then when not home it turns wifi on for a minute every 15 minutes to check and if it recognizes a familiar SSID, it will connect!

Smartwatch 2, and Sony Xperia Z Ultra Stamina mode?

Hello Members, just some help please.
In my Xperia z Ultra phone's 'stamina' mode setup, of all of my Smartwatch 2 apps and the SmartWatch 2 connect phone app are in the 'white list' for exception.
The thing is, some Smartwatch apps appear to want an 'always on' data connection, or access to it to refresh the service (an example is the weather extension), is anyone finding that they need to wake the phone to get some Smartwatch extensions to the work in whatever service they particular watch app provides.
I know there are GPS Smartwatch extension's that need the phone's GPS turn on prior to there use, but the 'Weather' extension just seems to need a Data connection.
In the phone's 'stamina' mode setup, what service, or application would need exemption from this power saving feature to allow the 3G data to be always on (or ready to connect to the network).
Any help would be great thanks
Regards

I don't think I am understanding your question. why your weather app would need to be constantly refreshed? only time I need mine refreshed is when I actually go and check it. the only things that I have made exceptions for would be bluetooth connection so that I don't drop connection to the watch every time my screen turns off and the smartwatch 2 app itself.

Hello ijOrgei, thanks for the replay, and sorry for the delayed response, you just might have hit apon the one thing I haven't made an exception in my Stamina mode setup, the 'Bluetooth' connection, I'll just need to know what I'm looking for in the 'All Applications' listing, is it labelled 'Bluetooth Share'?
Thanks
Re: Smartwatch
As i think this is the new revolution in the watch market, and it is going to take some time for improvements in the connection. Or find some other source to get connected with the phone by watch and data sharing

yea. it's labeled bluetooth share. that and smartwatch 2 are the only smartwatch related exceptions I have in Stamina mode. haven't had any issues with bluetooth connection that way. random drops here and there but usually connected majority of the time. hope that works.

[Q] Can I get my location using Cell towers only

Can I get my location with Wifi OFF 3g/LTE off and GPS off using only cell towers or does it need internet to get the info, my father says his Iphone 5 with apple maps doesn't need internet to get his location but what does my father know is this even possible and if so how do I do it on my nexus 5.

Settings > Location
Click Mode
Select Battery Saving Mode
Disable Wifi and Mobile Data if you haven't already
Your approximate location will now be determined using cell tower triangulation. However, if you are trying to use Google Maps for example, you need to have previously made the area in which you are currently located available offline, or have it in your Google Maps cache. Otherwise it won't display anything of value to you without some sort of internet connection to download the map data.
You can also use Device mode which will use GPS to pinpoint your location. Same maps caveat applies as above, and obviously you need to be able to get GPS satellite locks (ie. outside or next to a window).

You don't need internet to locate yourself only GPS.
Apps like Tasker and Llama can use cell tower location without draining your battery and requires a network connection but not data.

I can't seem to get it to work I have downloaded google maps to view offline and it just stays there saying "waiting for location..."
And did the part "Settings > Location
Click Mode
Select Battery Saving Mode
Disable Wifi and Mobile Data if you haven't already"
Pretty sure the only way for that to work is if you have "WiFi always scanning" turned on.
You can set your locations to Device Only and it will just use the GPS and nothing else.

You need GPS on at least. Thats what gives you your location. You can get a location based off of three things: Your mobile data, WiFi networks or GPS itself. You said you turned it all off so yeah, you arent going to get a location that way.

Well just from looking at the settings, you can either use GPS, WiFi and mobile networks....WiFi and mobile networks....or GPS only. So I guess, take your pick.
What are you trying to get out of this anyway? Just use your phone for calls and maps and thats it?

If you want to save some battery on the GPS side put your phone in airplane mode. That will shut down all but GPS. I use mine all the time with an app called Backcountry Navigation Pro. They have a free version so you can check out most of the features that way. You can set it to record a track from every 5 seconds to 30 minutes. I set it to 5 minutes and have pretty good accuracy as far as where I've been and the GPS use is only on for that time. You should be able to do that with any good mapping app.

Cell tower triangulation is not precise at all. It's only used to help your device catch GPS fix faster. If one would only use cell towers the accuracy would in most cases not got below 300-500m...
One cell tower can provide signal for a very large area. It can not be used for precise tracking as you need.
When I drive away from my house it can take over 5 minutes to leave the area of my 3 "home" cell towers.

How to prevent S7 to auto-connect to open Wi-Fi?

I assume it's a silly question, so if you feel in the right mood, just flame me Whenever I walk around I meet a lot of open Wi-FI networks, since one italian ISP is now giving out everyone routers which belongs to FON network. My S7 automatically connect to those wifi, but they need you to register to a website to use them, so either I turn wifi off, Or i must wait to be out of range before I can once again use my 3G/LET connection. Is there a way to avoid S7 to connect to open networks and just to known Wi-Fi?
Thanks in advance!
Turn it off when you are not using it, this also helps to save battery.

hi mate
just notice there is no more "advance Options " under wifi/more......
just as a theory check your apps and see if any of them has permissions like , network access , connect to wifi and that kind of things....
Thanks both. I know I can turn wifi off and can even use app like juice to turn on/off with GPS, but I can't believe that there is no more an option to prevent auto-connect to unknown networks. Besides being annoying, it's also a security issue

Samsung Italy just replied me, they are experiencing the same annoying situation, and they say it's android 6 that has removed this option. Suggestion is: turn off wifi. Sadly I have to admit that in this situation , iPhone wins. I just will turn wifi off, but in year 2016 being forced to always manually do something looks a bit silly.

I have been using the app Llama for years, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kebab.Llama
I have it learn my home cell towers and turn wifi on/off when I enter/leave the area. On AT&T phones there is a setting to auto connect to their Hotspots which I have set to off.
