MT6577 to be more and more Popular, VARIOUS BRANDs have been released by VARIOUS VENDORs all over the world. Most of them are Clone Phone version of Big International Brand. From the little research, I have found that Zyrex OneScribe ZA-985 is IDENTIC DEVICE with KATA - i1.
ZA-985 sold in Indonesia Only and KATA i1 supposed sold in Phillipine only. Rooting method for MT6577 proved valid for almost ALL BRANDS based on MT6577 but NOT EVERY ROM SAFE TO EXCHANGE AMONG MT6577 DEVICES.
Please Check if you have :
MT6577 based device, 1 Ghz Dual Core CPU, 1 GB RAM, PowerVR SGX531 GPU, 4.5-inch qHD (960×540) IPS display (245ppi), Dual GSM Sim Feature, Physically has THREE "Hardware Button", 8 MP Rear Camera, 1.3 MP Front Camera, MT6566 Wifi chipset. I believed you have identic device with Zyrex OneScribe ZA-985 and KATA-i1 and safely flash below 4.1.2 JB ROM.

By Changing the boot.img with boot.img in above rom. Device booting properly, operable gsm, wifi, bluetooth, data connections ALL WORK but Camera NOT WORK[. ZTE V970 is more popular device than ZA 985, thus to port ZATE V970 rom to ZA 985 will be easier. I will do it once I have time NO ETA

I've been using the ported ZTE V970 JB ROM to my Kata i1. It works fine except the front camera which is just on VGA (should be 1.3MP) and the temperature sensor which doesn't work. Those that are not working is not really a big deal. But if you guys can help me on making it work then it would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think the rom is rooted. Please try to replace the file in /system/lib/hw/camera.default.so with one on your device with similar android version of ROM. If you don't have one ... try with ICS libs. Push via adb

I'm not so sure, but I think there is /system/lib/hw/sensors.default.so ... this sensor AFAIK, is to control Soc Cemera . This probably also responsible for battery temperature sensor. in file also exist power.default.so we need to search info for their details jobs I have MTK6577 data sheet. I will take a look once I have time and come back
Both battery temperature doesn't work using ZA985 and V970 JB ROM on Kata i1. Tried copying the gps libraries from V970 to ZA985 but they use different modules. V970 uses mt6628 which is compatible with i1 while ZA985 uses mt6620. Using the i1 ICS libraries for camera and sensor won't work on the V970 ROM as it will be stuck on boot animation.

Camera :I think u need /system/lib/libcamera.so and /system/lib/liboemcamera.so from original device, since this is proprietary and device specific.
ZA-985 itself Not available yet a custom rom. I was ported from Kata -i1...
If the JB ROM for ZA985 was ported from Kata i1, why is it that the front cam is only VGA wherein it should be 1.3mp and the battery temperature doesn't work. And as far as I know there's no official JB ROM for Kata i1 yet so that custom ROM is ported from another but not Kata i1.

Kata - i1 has JB Custom ROM, I got from Piliphino Guys ...but I forgot the forums. Just search. if you can NOT find. I will upload for you. But it is NOT MY ROM ... someone named YON or something. Please drop message here. I will upload and let you know the links. After you downloading, I should delete I think. Unless the rom maker give permissions.
I believe those were ported ROMs but not official. There's no official JB ROM yet announced. I think it would be better if you message me the links instead of posting here. Thanks!

I was able to download and flash the yonip custom rom for i1. However the gps works there but not on your ported rom to ZA985. Everything seems the same with the V970 ported rom but I feel the V970 is much smoother in terms of performance.

dear all, i'm having spice MI-720 tablet, although i unlocked it today, but unfortunately while removing additional apk / bloatware , i removed some system android apk too , so now my tablet start .. screen logo seen , and then restart ...again start and resart....too much noise of restarting and restarting... how can i go to the previous position, though i m having ubuntu linux and windows xp on my pc , but can't modify / see internal memory of tablet, i also try to put some images on sd card but tablet not responding to it,,,so now should i go to service center or meet u all ?? pl show me the way to enjoy again my android 2.2.2 froyo tablet... thanking you all....

Android 4.0 ICS Now Available For Spice Mi 425
Last thursday spice released ICS update for Spice Mi 425 but the update can only be done through Spice service centers....:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
No OTA update , they claim to give better battery backup , enhanced UI , Better signal reception and much more in their update...
I am very eager for the update but don't have time to visit Spice service center, So plz some one post the update here in XDA , And all Mi 425 users need some Custom roms so plz developers work on it .. God Bless U....:angel::angel::angel::angel:

I found a way to run Karbonn A5's and Karbonn A7's GB based roms on our beloved Karbonn A9!!!!!
First flash the downloaded rom of A5/A7 on A9 through CWM....
Reboot.....
If you hear a sound and black screen or no sound only black screen...den u r good to go further......
Goto recovery mode...
Restore boot.img of A9...
Again reboot....
Victory!!!!!!! You will see smaller icons on bigger screen of our A9....
Just change pixel density from build.prop to 240 using any build.prop editor.....(u must be rooted)...
Super Victory u will be running the Roms on A9 which were actually made for A5 and A7....
Note:
No resolution problem as all of the phones contain HDPI folder in all the apps...
This method is given by me because unzipping the rom and adding boot.img of our device and again zipping it and flashing....doesn't work most of the time...so no quarreling with me....
I tested...
1. Ics1.0.6 A5
2. Backstreet Mod A5
3. Meosuper's Galaxy Mod A7
4. Meosuper's Xperia Mod A7
5. Backstreet Mod 4.0 A5 (new)
6. Backstreet Mod 4.1 A7 (new)
I dont remember if I tried other roms!!!!
U must hav backup before doing this...dont blame me afterwards....
This research definately deserves atleast a thanks....so press thanks button....believe me it's frreeeee.......
Important: sensors may not work....

I tried and my A9 went to Delhi @Karbonn Service Centre....45 din tak khatirdari ki unhone mere phone ki.....phir ye laut aaya...abhi jab tak perfect baseband aur perfect method to flash is not discovered till dont try any baseband on our A9....samze ya aur samzaau????

ICS 1.0.6 is GB-based....Themed ICS rom like vier rom....so no ICS roms can be used on our A9....

Bro....basebands are specifically made for the whole motherboard of phone, it may contain different configurations for different parts included like display, sensors and mainly network chip receiver. Since we have same processor and hdpi folder in the apps of A5/A7, we are able to boot the roms....I hope u understand....

We should not buy Karbonn phones next time better invest some good amount to buy some international brand.

bro yesterday i had tried many gb base rom for my A9 all are work but i think a9 rom having beteer interface than those roms also one more thing is Camera is not working in all of them.in Some roms Google play store is also not working
so i think better to waste time on gb rom intallation we have to find out from where they got the base band files for A5 & A7

The boot.img if used from A9 ROM can boot and work well with A5 / A7 ROMS
I dont think This is a good idea not to buy these handsets, these phone got ICS, and might get JB soon

Nice , just wanted to know how you made it boot this will be a great step towards development of A9 ROMS.
The baseband for A9 is not available anywhere. I searched, still searching.
Some ROMs are posted on A9 thread though, GB based. Should work well

Camera should work if u flash A7's rom...as A7 also have same 5mp camera with flash....
And I knw this is waste of time bt wat we can do is just play something new with our A9...so we can help in Development of this phone......
Its just that simple....
As for me....I can do....i just use phone for Internet & rom flashing....

Need Help
Hey guys, I'm new here, and I'd be really grateful if somebody, anybody could give me a clue as to how to root this device i.e. Karbonn A9.
I know this is not the right thread, and there is another huge thread on rooting, but that thread seems dead and I'm not getting any answers.
I read and re read all the steps throughout the post, and yet I'm stuck at the very first step.
The drivers do not get installed on my x64 windows 7 system, and I can't do crap after that.
I have the rooting kit provided by fonehacker (live long and prosper), but it's useless because the device drivers can't be installed.
I tried the 4shared download drivers provided earlier, but they don't seem to work either.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
P.S. I tried adding the certificates and tried again. nothing.

The drivers are not for 64bit....but it will work on 32bit windows 7....so install 32 bit windows 7 on ur pc and try.....

On the russian forum, they have ported ROM from MTK6589 to MTK6577, so the porting is possible, but it was for same android version.

Port Mtk6589 Android 4.2 to mtk6577. Only processor changes.
ANy news here_ Or alternatives. I{m really interested as well. I have a Jiayu g3 mtk6577 with Android 4.1. The Jiayu G3S is exactly the same hardware, except for the mtk6589 processor and has Android 4.2. Everything else is exactly the same. Maybe that makes it easier!?

Strange....Camera is working perfect after release of custom kernel of @Andrixu...Do u have old MMX FON or the Latest one...as latest MMX A110 is not supporting camera on 4.2.2..although our devs r contionuosly working to fix it asap..in case if u hv old MMX than try to.reflash the latest kernel of @Andrixu (which u can find in ANDROID ORIGINAL DEVELOPMENT FORUM) then ur both the cameras will work perfectly..

( EverShine ) it's a clone of mmx a110
and i have tested the two boot.img, of Andiroxu and varun, and the same problem remain
i think when modded, this news boot.img contain only driver for mmx a110, not an universal drivers for other clones
which is not the case with the boot.img of the "4.1.x" version
am i the only one facing fc while opening face and voice unlock on legoice canvas 4 r

EverShine would have taken Latest Devices.... Where is the logo of your brand on the Phone??[just asking] as on india....only old phones which came with ICS out of Box is supported by New Kernels... Did you try old kernel by andriroxu??

same, cam not work
i have flashed roms from wiko king, cynus T2, my phone a919 and mmx of course (4.1.x), and all kernels are compatible for EverShine
