Hi everyone pretty new to the Chinese phones and apologies if this has been done before (i cant find it) but i have a JIAYU G4 youth which is running the latest custom rom off needrom.com (JY-G4 Yabe V7.0.2) this is the 3rd rom i have flashed and each one the GPS is very slow or does not work at all and you can not get a fix. The only way i can get it to pick up satalites is to use the engineer mode on mobille uncle tools which is quite long winded.
Ok so to my question "can the gps be improved by some sort of configuration?" I notice in the root of the sd card is a gps config file does this need altering somehow when used in UK?. Any help would be much appreciated as other than this it is a great phone.
The problem is rather the antenna in the back of the device when the device screen up and metallic body, the blocked antenna. GPS works well when the device display down.
But there are some guides on how to improve GPS software (according to me do not work):

This is more than only a hardware (antenna) problem. I've noticed that when I connect an external BT mouse that the mouse itselfs gets a "spot on" fix, but the phone is struggling to keep this fix.
By editing the build.prop and disable JIT the phone has a much better GPS fix.
GPS fix issue in Jiayu G4
Finally the issue is solved by 100%
The problem is rather the antenna in the back of the device .
The PCB has contacts for GPS antenna , the 1st & 3rd are the ground & the middle i.e 2nd is the main antenna.
I just skipped 1 & 3 contact by putting insulating tape between contact & the antenna.
Only 2nd point is touching the antenna .
just that's all.
Now my phone fixes GPS with in a minute in cold start.
I tried with most of the available ROM.
Pls note : If you are not a technical person do not open.
refer to some mobile repair person .
soon release the photos of the same.

Hi Pankaj459,
I tried the software fixes, which got me a quicker fix. Unfortunately the fix is not very accurate.
Very often the GPS loses its way and I find myself about 100yards beside the road or in a nearby street.
I opened up my G4A and noticed that the 3rd pole had already been isolated with black tape. I did also isolate the left pole. Nevertheless, did not see any difference.
The fix took just as long/ short. Accuracy was just as dismal.
Is there anything else I can do? Would it actually help if I modded some copper wire to the GPS contacts, or would that not solve the issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.

So do you think the solution has to do with putting aluminium paper in the antenna? I have seen that fix in THL and it seems to fix the accuracy, maybe it is the solution.
Would anybody share a little tutorial on how to do it?

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
I get this, too. The metal chassis feels premium. A little bit expensive though.
I too received mine last week.
overall this is a really good phone , nicely built , beautifull full hd screen , very fast.
only negative point , but i don't know if this come from my unit or if its general issue from this phone,
the WIFI and Bluetooth signal are weaker than my other phone ( Samsung Omnia 7 / Sony XPERIA U )
if i stand in my rooter room i got no problem , but if i go in my kitchen , i lose signal while the 2 other phone have very low but some signal still.
And about bluetooth , when i connect my audio headset , and put the phone in my pocket it sometimes disconnect when i turn my head in the opposite direction of my holster .
that never happended with my Omnia7.
Actually i can live w/o bluetooth but the WIFI signal at my job is low in my office as being far from rooter and i get trouble connecting
Can you guys test your WIFI and bluetooth signal ? against other smartphone ?
everything is just works fine , only we need custom roms

AFAIK every Mediatek phone with Android 4.2.2 suffers from that issue. Might be better with the upcoming 4.4 ... hopefully.

this phone runs android 4.3.9 but it might be the same . i hope it software or firmware related .
i contacted the shop but i doubt they will do anything as it does works but the signal is just a bit weak IMHO.
and i guess the chip is the same for bluetooth and wifi ... so same problem.
edit: made a picture but can't link it here due to being newbie

It definitely does NOT run on Android 4.3.9, an Android version like that does not exist!
As I said in my video, I am sure it runs on 4.2.x, probably 4.2.2
I also don't have any problems with Wifi at all, with MY setup, this phone has a very powerful wifi reception, a LOT better than most of the other phones I had so far

well i received a message from the shop this morning to send the device back.
guess i'll send it back as it seems my device is faulty.
As ColonelZap wrote - it is definitively Android 4.2.2 and not 4.3.9. There are currently no drivers from Mediatek for Android 4.3.x.
I have two other phones with a Mediatek cpu and both have the same BT issues like the K1, not with a headset (never tried) but with car connections (different cars verified). Establishing a connection is never an issue but any transmission is interrupted. Sometimes earlier sometimes later (1 min upto 5 min.)
But the WLAN connection of my K1 is pretty fine.So maybe your device has a hardware issue in addition.

yeah , i think that too , but what worries me is that the WIFI does works , just not so well , so i hope they don't send the same unit again...
well i will write down the serial number and IMEI and see
thanks for the feedback guys.
Just ordered this phone, i hopes everything runs well, waiting for another review or issues of the batteries, gps and etc?
@colonel zap can you share with us what you are doing with this phone until it's so powerful like that?

terrible phone call quality
Hello I had 6 chinese MTK phones in the past 3 years. This one has the best build quality. Howeve it has ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE voice/call quality, the other side can hardly understand me over all the humming, hissing, parts of words missing. So far I have not been able to complete a single phone call without the óther person saying "I can hardly understand you and what is all the noise and humming" This occurs in areas with very strong signal and gets even worse with weaker signal. It is impossible to make the phone call with less than 4 signal bars out of 5.
So far terrible experience at this price.

GPS locks fast and has strong reception - NO GLONAS SUPPORT (or at least during the testing I did not receive a single GLONASS sattelite) contrary to what is sometimes mentioned on certain chinese sites.
With 1-2 phone calls, hour of wifi and hour od GPS battery has about 40% at the end of the day.

Voice recorder as well as VOIP (Skype test service). Standard and OK sound quality.
Only occurs during phone calls. I have not yet had one without the person saying he/she can't hear me well or at all...

This is clearly related to the HW/FW of this one phone. It occured right out-of-box during first call and persisted ever since. It is not related to the GSM signal, location, provider (tested 2 different providers), contact I am calling.... Second phone I have in identical situation work jsut OK.
Not saying this affects all units, just sayng to be careful when buying.
Support from Kingzone is ZERO (sent 3 requests for advice and/or firmware file to try reflash)
If someone finds or gathers stock ROM let me know.

Wow i think it's hardware problem if colonel zap or other didn't have the same problem, or maybe the problem is with another person phone/provider which made a call with you? since you didn't have problem hearing the calls from her/him?

I found the articles on another sites, that i think JB 4.3.9 is somekind of CusROM called Ali Cloud OS .. similar thing like AMIGO OS JB ?
Hi all, so occasionally im buying some broken xperia phones and repair screens mostly z1. but recently i started z3 and now i saw what mistake was. so i had 2 same xperia z3 phones both replaced screens and when i stared phone i saw signal has 2 bards where need to have all bars and then drops and again, i have try new signal cable new anntena module, cleannig metal plate, swiching housing to original where lcd was broken and now luck sometimes i get normal signal when disconnect signal module from plastike holder and put it on metal plate and holding with fingers but when i relese my fingers signal drops.. also i have tested with z1 signal module and signal aslo works great but only when i hold with fingers. on first z3 signal magicly just stared working when i disassemble and assemble all again, but on second one still no luck and i dont know what esle to do.

I used to have a similar problem like yours before. Network range was really bad after replacing the LCD. Then I replaced the whole antenna module with speaker at the bottom and now everything is fine.
Thanks for reply.. yes it seems logic but how is possible to work when touches my fingers without pressure and how is possible to work on first phone after like 10 trys i dont get.. i dont want to spend more money on new board and time to arrive and to happen same. also i didnt damage board or connector, coz i dont pressure on connectors when signal incrases...

I have no idea how you get signal while you touch your fingers. Maybe your fingers act as extended body antenna like. You know what I mean.
Try removing your full antenna module at the bottom and fix it again. There might be some lose contact.
Otherwise replacing your whole antenna module is the only fix. I had paid around 20$ for the antenna module with speaker.
Hi, I've got an issue with my Mi5S Plus phone.
It finds only 4-5 sattelites via GPS while other phone finds 21.
Bluetooth works within 2-3 meters only.
Wifi 2.4 Hz works in 5-6 meters max and shows low signal strength.
Meanwhile Wifi 5 Hz works pretty well.
LTE works ok.
It's chinese phone with Global ROM 9.6.2.0 installed.
Mac adress in about phone is not empty.
Is that hardware or software issue?
Looks like antena issue but where is it and where are antena connectors in Mi5S Plus?
Will flash of ROM help? (I did not try it yet)
Any help is highly appreciated! I face such issue for the first time and searching the internet does not help.
open the phone, the antenna for anything except cellular are the tiny pogo connector that should be in contact with the respective pads in the back case...
clean the back case's pad for the respective contact points and try it again...

Thank you Crescendo again! I finally succeeded to fix it.
Chinese seller broke connector in the left upper corner of PCB when he disassembled phone to flash Global ROM via ETL loader I suppose.
I had to solder another connector and so now it's finally working as it should: Wifi 2.4, bluetooth, GPS signals are strong.
So it was 100% hardware issue, not related to software.
For other guys with same issue I advice to disassemble according to video on YouTube:
"Как разобрать Xiaomi Mi5s Plus (2016070) Разборка и ремонт"
And if you have same issue, bring it to repairman so he will solder you another connector fast and cheap.

thanks for the clear photo & pinpoint accuracy.
I can only guess the connectors coz they're plenty on top part of the phone... [emoji38]
Mine's not broken but the GPS (only the GPS) signal is weak... weaker than my wife's, same model same configs.
it all happened after I opened the phone for cleaning..., maybe the pin isn't making good contact with the antenna, I'll reopen it tom & try to bend it forward carefully...
again thanks for the clear explanation & photo...
glad it's all ok for you...

@dogrishin is it possible to repost the photos of the connector that you have fixed, they're gone from tinypic (perhaps upload to imgur or somewhere)
@Crescendo Xenomorph have you figured out which connector specifically is the GPS antenna?
I have the same problem after I had to disconnect and re-connect the battery. I haven't broken any pins or replaced anything in the phone but after putting it back together the GPS signal is insanely weak. Takes forever for a position fix and keeps losing it after. Also Wi-Fi is dead one wall away from the router. I've carefully bent all the pins a bit towards the back-case today and had no great improvement.
I think it's the second one from the top right, coz I broke mine & the wifi is gone...
Had to get it replaced to makewifi work again, but my take is usually just fix all connectors inside since I can't be sure....
@kaboom83 sorry for sooo late reply, but I could not find original photos....so now I just accidentally have found them and reuploaded to imgur. Here they are

Try to change your GPS antenna, My unit came with a cheap antenna, I bought a new one by Amazon: same quality and GPS doesn't work.
Buy a best quality GPS antenna and moreover, update your ROM and MCU with the latest available (official files here: https://yadi.sk/d/umCvHqCDzHccr)
You should fix the issues.

Simply: The new antenna work properly, the old antenna did not!
I think the issue was simply the bad quality of the product, like cold solder, bad cable or poor antenna inside the plastic case. Once I changed the antenna, the GPS get satellites fastly and it fix the position very well. Pay attention while mounting it...I understood that sun, too warm, cable pulled/mashed/spoiled, make the antenna working bad. My antenna is now mounted and totally hidden inside the right pillar, and it works so good as it fix the position almost instantly after power up. Pay a bit more for a better antenna, those selled by "Pumpkin" are excellent and cheaps!

May I ask what antenna you bought to make your GPS instantly lock onto satellites? I bought a new one but it's been more or less the same results, which are very minimal results lol.
Also keep it mounted on my dashboard with a magnetic mount. Do you think that could affect anything with the signal?
