[Q] Galaxy Tab 2 constantly rebooting - not charging? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Someone gave me a Tab 2 - GT-P3113TS. I let the battery be dead for a couple days, and yesterday tried charging it (samsung cable plugged into USB wall outlet.) It just shows a hollow battery icon with a spinner, then the battery partially filled with orange, then the screen goes blank. Repeat.
I left it plugged in overnight but it didn't help. Today I tried plugging it into the USB port on my monitor, but does the same thing. Seems like other threads I've read on this say "take it to a service center" but if that's what I really need to do, I'll pass. Any other tricks?
Thanks

it seems to be a hardware prob so better take it to service by the way did u root or do any other thing that breaks warranty if not the go

No, I haven't rooted it or really done anything to it, yet. Any idea what the cost of repair might be?

What happens if you go into device manager while it's plugged in? Do you see "OMAP4430"?

You mean the Device Manager in Windows? I don't use Windows.

What os do you use?

Hi have the same issue with my Tab and when i plug it to the computer it just reconnecting and that it say faild to install OMAP4430 drivers.

Sorry, that means your tab is permabricked. It is technically fixable, but only with a dev who either works at Texas Instruments or one who has intimate knowledge of the tool called OMAP Flasher.

Dropped mine in water, couldn't take the battery out fast enough, when i did finally get it dried out it was in the same loop u described. I assume that the water had enough minerals in it to cause a minor short across some pins, I took out the mother board and shield, got a injector and put dis-stilled water over every pin and ic on the board including all the contacts. used Qtips to clean off the pins and put water on again. Then used a hair dryer to dry it off. Plugged in the charger, let it go for a few hours and the unit was up and running like new, Be careful of the speakers and take the camera off, and the board out of the case first.

Had one of those injectors like u use to inject liquids into a turkey, Simply a plastic tube with a piston (like u get a shot from the doctor) to let me control the amount and location of where I wanted the water, Could use anything, even just dump the water on. I checked the amount of total dissolved solids in the water I dropped my tab and it was around 500 PPM, not really that high, but enough when it evaporated, minerals were deposited on the pins Id guess. The water will puddle on the boards, so i used a Qtip (the thing u use to clean your ears) to clean up the pins, If i had I might have used a new tooth brush. Important that once you clean the pins to put more water on to wash the deposits away. I did not use contact cleaner, Distilled water has no minerals and will dissolve out the minerals dried on the board. You don't need cleaner, nor would I recommend it since it may cause other issues. There is nothing I saw on the board other than the speakers and camera that looked like ti would be harmed by distilled water. I also cleaned the 5 or so ribbon connector junctions including the charging port. Guessing this would work on any phone or electronic devise that got wet with lower tds water that didnt short out.

Want your opinion on this phone black screen issue (see picture)...

My wife's phone got water damaged a few days ago and I took it apart and removed as much water as possible and put it in a bowl of rice to set.
I finally tried turning it on today and it seems to work fine (I think, syncs etc.) except that the screen does not power on. I can see the backlights when I look at it from an angle so it appears to receive power of some kind.
I took it apart further to see if I could see anything and I found that on the display cable there is a black area which looks like it is damaged/burnt on the cable. There was also a little bit of black on the connector but I believe I got most of that cleaned off, but the area on the cable does not seem to be able to be cleaned.
I don't really know anything about electronics or parts of a phone and was wondering if anyone that did could suggest what my next steps would be to restore the phone/screen to operational condition? Part replacement etc.
Thank you.
It sounds like the chip connected to that cable got fried, hence the burnt spots.

infuse went swimming only workes when on charger

My son took his phone swimming, got it dried out and actually works but kills the battery very quickly, will stay on as long as its on the charger. I have tried a new battery (I have many) and its not the battery. any suggestions not able to get a new one under warranty.
First things - turn phone off, remove from charger, take battery out. Leave in this condition to avoid further damage which may occur when you apply power to a wet phone.
Also, getting started on the drying process quickly is somewhat important (but not so important that you should rush to do anything without finding some instructions first).
Google using three words
wet phone rice
The first two hits look good:

thanks but have been thru the drying and no power scenerio...... was over a week and a half ago.. did the batt pull and store in rice......
Sorry, I misunderstood. Yes that's a lot harder question.
You apparenlty have a high battery drain.
You've ruled out battery by swapping.
I guess before trying anything drastic, you might try typical approach to see if there is an application drawing battery (for example power tutor). That's a longshot since it would be unrelated to the water, but would be a shame to get intrusive if it's not required.
Other than than I guess you can try to have it cleaned to remove some contamination that may be causing like high-resistance short circuit causing a battery drain. I have no experience or recommendations on who might be able to do that. If trying yourself you might try inspecting accessible areas and disassembly to gain more access to the extent you feel comfortable. Possibly clean with compressed clean air or q-tips soaked in alchohol.... targeted cleaning if you can see corrosion, or longshot just clean everything in sight.... but that increases the risk level of something that is already risky (easy to damage things poking around inside your phone). If it were my phone I'd definitely be looking for someone else to do it rather than trying myself.
Sorry, not much help. Maybe someone else will chime in...
Sadly.... It is probably something on the board of the phone. If it only works when it is on the charger that means that no power is going from the battery to the motherboard. Same problem with a 3gs. Although that turned out to be a curoded chip on the battery itself, there is probably a bad part on the motherboard. You will most likely have to take it apart and look for water damage. Like curoded spots, and clean them of by CAREFULLY scraping the white off with a TOOTHPICK or something else soft and non metallic. That's all I can say, I've fixed a good many water damaged devices. But they all had on board battery's and the same part always went. The little chip controlling charging on the battery.
If you get it apart look around where the battery prongs are. Either there or maybe around the processor.

Did the phone get powered on straight of water???
If so corrosion is a possibility more that likely the currenent arched and damaged the circuit .
Does the phone heat up when running off or on the charger ???
Again if so then phone motherboard. Was damaged and the power circuit is causing the drain and allows for it to function on the plug because it bypasses the damage.
Just my humble opinion....
My only suggestion is if our handy with electronic find another on eBay and switch out mother board.

Others have recommended this product for cleaning gunk out of the buttons on Samsung phones. It also works to remove corrosion on electrical contacts - plastic safe, no residue. Might be worth a shot if other avenues don't pan out (available on Amazon and elsewhere):
CRC 05101 QD Electronic Cleaner
That is for the suggestion.. had the phone apart, cleaned all the contacts.... phone boots up nicely, but totally shuts down when allowed to sleep N needs to be rebooted to start again.. also still killing the battery within minutes.... gonna get another mother board from eBay... thanks again for all the suggestions

[Q] Nexus 5 exposed to water

Hello Guys
A while ago i received my N5 and i really enjoyed it! 2 days, i drop the thing in the toilet. :crying:
Okay so my insurance wont cover it and the phone has dryed in Rice and i followed all the advices that were online.
Tho i couldnt remove the batteri and i know this is a crucial point since the current+water will destroy the circuits.
Now my phone either wont start, or sometimes it will try to boot showing the google logo and then crashing (it cant enter the OS).
Is it worth trying to repair the thing? I dont think it will be a problem for me to change a circuit board og replace another part, but since i dont have any experience with phones i dont know what part i should start with.
The phone costs 580 dollars here in Denmark where i live.
Is it worth it ?
Regards Jesper
You can open it up, get some rubbing alcohol and submerge the board into the rubbing alcohol. Use a soft tooth brush and scrub the board. Usually the board gets corrosion/dirt from the water. Once thoroughly clean put a blow dryer to it (use medium to no heat. DO NOT PUT THE BATTERY IN THE ALCOHOL. ONLY THE BOARD!
I've tried this before and it worked like a charm when my Galaxy Nexus had water damage.

As soon as you dropped it in water you should have turned it off and left it off for days and possibly even took a hairdryer to it or let it sit in front of the heat vent.
Number one mistake is trying to turn it on. If anybody else drops the nexus in water. Because it has no removable battery cover. Rice won't do the trick. It would take way too long and the water would have already rusted the metal components and trashed all the pop connectors. If you drop the phone is water. Quickly take the entire phone apart. Than put all the pieces in rice. That will allow the rice to actually absorb the left over water. YouTube "nexus 5 tear down". Its always a good thing to know how to do this.

I just finished assembling the Nexus again and im a very happy man!
After disasembling the phone i found that the top board was very teared by the water and it was clear how some of the sockets had poor or no connection.
I used pure alchol (Dunno what its called in english) and a small toothbrush to clean the board. I dryed the board with a hair dryer on cold setting to avoid over heating the CPU parts. Now the phone works! and it doesnt look like it has any pearment faults or flaws. Even the display is normal and all my previous settings and the OS was intact. Thanks for the help everybody! and yes the best thing to do is remove the powersource and dry the boards individually if exposed to water
Best regards Jesper

Hey guys. I followed the instructions and have gotten my phone to power. Problem is when it goes from the power up screen that say "Google" to the colored balls, the balls freeze and it goes back to "Google" and freezing there. Any ideas on what I can do to get it to boot?
I just need it to boot long enough to retrieve my pictures and this hot chick's number I got right before the phone was dropped in the pool. Thanks.
edit: When I hold Volume Down/Power, I can get it to the bootloader. Anything I can do from here to salvage my stuff? I'm not familiar with bootloader options. Plugged into my computer, I can hear my PC make the noise as though it's connected which typically then leads to the phone's drive being accessible on the computer however it then immediately makes the noise of the phone being disconnected.
I believe I am having the same problem as you. I briefly dropped it into a creek for no more than a few seconds. That was enough to make the display unresponsive to touch. I was able to power down and quickly did so.
Unfortunately I wasn't near any rice immediately (motorcycle) so I put the phone in my mesh jacket in 100F weather and hoped for the best. I left it off at this point. When I got home I turned it back on (stupid I know) and the N5 didn't boot, only stopped at "Google" boot. I powered down the phone and rebooted, this time it worked. A quick checkup showed the external speaker didn't work for Play music, but did work for T-mobile visual voicemail. Also, the earpiece didn't work when I attempted to make calls.
At this point I realize I probably screwed up the phone big time. Once I realized not all components were working I put the phone in a ziplock bag with brown rice new from the store. I guess I'll let it sit for 48 hours and then attempt again. If it doesn't work, I'll attempt taking the phone apart and cleaning each part. And I'm really only going to attempt that because this phone isn't even paid off!!
These phones need to be made tougher! I am losing hope that there's any chance of my phone surviving at this point.

Hi guyz,
I need some help, lately my nexus 5 was been water damaged. I immediately follow OuncE718 suggestion but I still experiencing problem. When I press on the phone I can feel the vibration but Google-boot logo will not display and it will only display a white-dim light in the bottom part of the screen. I tried to connect it in a Windows computer it will be recognised as a Nexus 5 phone. Does it mean I had to replace my LCD.?

Who knows what damage did the water do? If the corrosion sets in, your device will be hosed for sure.
It's really a fools errand to fix water damaged phones as no one can be sure the extent of the damage.
If you take it to a service centre, they'll most probably replace the lcd + mobo which will cost a bomb.

Cut your losses. Replace the whole phone. Then get insurance

Spending money on a water damaged device is usually money wasted. Cause there's usually more things wrecked you find out along the way.
Save the money to go towards a new device.
I had the same problem, I used all the methods that I've read with no solution, my last hope is that the battery got damaged, is there a chance that maybe the battery is the problem? I can get a replacement for 20 dollars, but what do you think? thanks

Galaxy s6 won't charge?

Today I noticed that galaxy s6 won't charge anymore. Tried different cables and chargers.
If I move charger cable a bit it, 'charging logo goes on' and nothing else. Also somehow I managed to turn on the device but it showed 0% and after couple sec it went off.
What could be the problem? Charging port or battery ?
Regards
Its been happening to as well.. but because I wet it once...

Have you ever dropped it in water ?
Mine did this a few weeks ago until I blew into the charge port and then it was fine. It didn't really look that dirty so I was surprised it worked.
If you already replace the cables it must have something in the USB port on your phone, try cleaning with a thin pin, it helped me more than once.
Thanks guys for your replies. I took the device to the warranty service in one of the European countries, they checked and refused to fix. They said that there is a corrosion inside the charging port. As it is my brothers' phone I cannot confirm if the phone was wet or something. He just said that he tend to use his phone when it was raining outside. The best part was when I went to the service she plugged in with her charger and phone started to charge, but I still agreed to check the phone. Now I got refused warranty and not sure what to do next.

Think you've got 2 options here, if you are capable of taking apart the phone you can see the level of corrosion and see if you can clean things up or take it to a 3rd party and get the charging port replaced.

I think for the time being see how it goes, maybe what happened is when the charger was inserted at centre it may have worn away some of the corrosion on the pins when the contacts rubbed against each other, but long term id look at getting it replaced.

That's really good point. I know that for the car you can use spray against corrosion and the corrosion goes away. Would that be something that can be used for the phone and some stick to clean it ?

You have to becareful with anything that's liquid based, as it could possibly cause a short so becareful with that.
The lg and s4 would have been a lot easier to work on. I've had a few lg phones apart since they always break on me and their one upside is that they were very easy to fix.

How to check dissembled Pixel 4a Mainboard?

Hi all,
I ditched my phone in water.
I disassembled the whole phone, cleaned everythign with IPA and dried it afterwards. Now I would like to check if the mainboard is still working.
I connected the battery, display and usb port to the mainboard and plugged a charger in -> no response (display black, no vibration, sound etc)
I assume that the batterie is completly dead as it discharged until it turned off.
Is this aready a clear sign for a broken mainboard or does it only boot when fully assembled? Just want to avoid to put more effort into the phone, e.g. replacing the battery etc if its already lost...
Thanks in advance!
Dry for at least 72 hours in a warm dry room with a fan on the mobo. The BGA chipsets can dry slow.
Isopropyl is hygroscopic so it's important to remember it may attract some moisture from the air while drying. Use only >92% or greater, 96% is best. Submerged the board in it for a couple minutes while moving it around.
Battery needs to be charged and good for the phone to boot.
Out of circuit the mobo especially is sensitive to ESD damage. Use your best judgment but more assembled is better than less assembled unless very familiar with the device.
Thanks for the reply! Phone is "drying" for two month now as I was already considering as "lost" after disassembling and no luck with first checks. But before getting the new 6a, I want to give it a last try Was just 7 month old when I dropped it :/
When I plugged the charger in, there was no sign of charging. So not sure if the batterie is broken or if its coming from the board, or both.
A new battery is quite expensive just for a test / to find out more is damaged.

If the battery sat near its auto shutdown voltage for 7 months it's DOA.
A charger likely won't supply enough current to boot.
The fact that it does nothing when connected to the charger is a bad sign.
Check for loose connectors, bent connector pins, etc.
Examine the mobo (power section especially) and connector pins closely for corrosion damaged caused by electrolysis.
Since you can't see the BGA pads if there's corrosion there...
Water exposure; power off immediately and pull the battery asap to limit damage. Salt or brine water is a death sentence though.
Anhydrous isopropyl alcohol is an excellent drying agent but it and any solvents can't be used around LCD's; it will irreversibly poison them.
LCD's are vented to atmosphere on the sides...

Thats true, happened at work so I could do anything for the whole day and in the evening it was already dead. With some random screen on and offs during the day and "booting into fast mode" or something similar during the day.
Phone was not reacting to switch it off normally, screen was black and buttons did not react either

A thats interesting, I was already thinking that some water went inside the screen. Because I have quite some dark areas on the screen, which increased in size the first days. Looked like water got pulled in. Was hoping that when the phone gets warm again it will disappear...

Yeah, have the same feeling. Very unlucky as it was just rain water in a not perfectly closed rain jacket...
Will check the connectors and cables again but was already quite sure that they are all clean

That sucks. Prompt battery disconnect* can save electronics (flooded cars sometimes too).
LCDs are sort of witchy. The spot may or may not disappear over time. Have an old S4 that got sunbaked while charging. The display had multiple issues, barely usable. Thought it had fried drivers. Strangely the longer it sat unused the better it got. 3 years latter it almost 100%.
*Lol, 3 years ago I dropped my Buds case in a full cup of coffee, cream and sugar of course. It promptly sank to the bottom like a lead weight.
The Li is spot welded in. Immediately tore it apart, flushed with RO water, then with anhydrous isopropyl, allowed to dry for a day.
It's still working normally today. A drank that cup of coffee afterwards too
