Hello.
I'm helping a friend with his Lumia 820.
The phone says that the intertal storage is full, and won't respond to anyting.
In the settings under storage option is says that 6g is used by "other".
The question is, how do I access the internal storage via pc or some application to see what is taking all the space and how do I prevent it in the future.
I tried searching the forum and googled it in general, but didnt found any solution.
I have no previous knowledge of operating mobile windows 8, used only android and iOS.
Thank you
Urgent memory capacity
Lumia 820 internal memory capacity is full. But i have 64 gb capacity in memory card. Phone memory and memory card is not working hot swap. What is your advice?

in the recent update a tab is added named STORAGE CHECK
it gives the memory info as pie chart and also tells which app taking how much data..
it is little helpful but no support app2sd i think
very much changes needed in wp8..

you can set the phone to store new pictures, music and videos to the SD Card. go to setting>phone storage, scroll to bottom and change the settings.

its possible that the IE cache is taking up the space. try cleaning the temp files.

I continually run out of space on my blaze's internal memory.I can't sync certain things, like evernote does not have enough space to save notes. I can't do any backups because there is not enough available memory.
I don't think I have an excessive amount of apps, and have put as many on the external sd card as possible. I don't have any games stored on the internal memory, nor any media save a few pictures.
If I look at the applications on the sd card(the internal card) It says I'm using 1.3gb. Just a quick tally and I hardly have more than 70mb in the size of the applications. Am I missing something? Previous phones I have used with less memory have not encountered this. Is there any screenshot or other info that may help?
Any assistance is gratefully appreciated.

Are you on custom ROM/kernel? If so, which ROM/kernel are you using?
some questions
are you using a custom rom? do you have CWM? If you have cwm maybe a backup is on there along with titanium backups... that would eat up a gig.
Best advise is to connect it to your pc and check where all the space is being used.

I believe by default the pictures and video files are saved to internal storage so I would check on that too.
I am using the darkknight rom build 3. Sorry for not mentioning that. But I encountered this same issue while running stock. I know the majority of the pics are on the external sd.
I do have cwm and ti on this. THese cannot be setup to use space on the external sd can they?
I would suggest booting to recovery, format /cache and dalvik-cache partitions.
Fix perms, and reboot.
You stated you had low MEMORY so that leads me to believe your device is cluttered with temp and cached files which can be easily removed by doing what I stated above.
Keep in mind ladies and gents, memory is different from storage.
However, the issues you stated above could indicate a low STORAGE issue.
So, if you are having a storage problem, then you need to figure out what is taking up so much space on your device. That can usually be determined by going to settings>storage and looking at the output that is displayed.
For more advice, please let me know that it is a low MEMORY issue or a STORAGE issue.
Try out an app called DiskUsage, it works a lot like WinDirStat for PCs.
That way you can find what's taking up a ton of data
I'm a little confused. I thought i read somewhere the blaze had 4gb of internal memory. Why am i only showing up with 1gb system memory. But also like 2gb usb storage but what is that?
Thanks for any help.

It comes with 4gigs internal and 4gigs external. The internal is used for the OS and system apps. I installed GTA anniversary edition and it took up all my USB storage...then it got deleted.

Sorry for not clarifying, its a storage issue. I should have been a little more exact with my posting...
Incidentally, I cleared up about half a gig by deleting the ti backup folder's contents,
You can change the location of your backups in Titanium by going to preferences-> and scroll down to 'Backup folder location'. Look next to the 'DETECT' button and that will show you the current path. It defaults to 'mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup'. Change it to 'mnt/sdcard/external_sd/TitaniumBackup' by pressing the back button and navigating to the right place. The removable storage (sd card) on the Blaze is the sdcard/external_sd path. That way you will still be able to have your backups.
Thanks, there was about half a gig in the ti backup folder, so this should fix my problem.
Is there a way to store apps on the external sd and still get the widgets to work? And also to free up the internal storage?
Thanks
No, sorry, widgets need to be on the internal storage to work properly.
How do i get games like gta and spectral souls to install to my external?? Those games took up all the internal memory. It type suck because theres no space to cache up music from my google music library.

OK so this is my problem...and need help quick BEFOOREE!!
Ok....so I've had the phone for about three months now and i'm beginning to think that this is a problem that I can't resolve on my own..meaning I might have to get a new phone...I'm running the custom ROM and have not rooted the phone.. The problem started when I tried to sedn pictures through my messages. The phone would say..Not enough memory get rid of some stuff.... so i started uninstalling apps that i really don't need. Problem didn't seem to resolve itself, so since everything is backed up to googles ( as far as contacts and apps) I did a system reset to no avail. Seems like I'm having the same problem. Now I have an 8Gb Sd card mounted in system and when I try to move apps into the Sd card it says not enough memory??? Even after system reset. So this is what it says on my storage window... System Storage 0.89GB....USB Storage ( by the way wtf is this??) 1.40 GB and then the SD card with Total space : 7.40 GB Available 7.35GB...I can't seem to move anything into the USB or Sd cards... and yes the Sd card is mounted, or so the system says.... for the sake of not throwing the phone out of the window please help!!
I'm noticing....*whilst* playing around that it seems my phone thinks this USB storage is the SD card. when i check applications and see those in the SD card it shows me those on USB storage...and nothing seems to go to Sd card. I tried downloading apps2 sd and it says same thing...not enough memory...because those few appas I have are taking the whole 2 GB's of space in this invisible usb storage??? Still need help. what the hell is this usb storage and what makes it...looking around i found on the samsung forums that (You must enable USB storage to mount the SD card) i don't remerber doing this and have looked everywhere to turn it off...btw I have the phone replacement thing from T-Mobile..would rooting the phone affect that?.Since it looks to be my only option...I though doing a system reset would fix this but seems not...
in settings-storage, the sd card shows your external sd, usb storage shows the internal space and system shows the system space. this phone has very small system space. my solution was to root the phone and remove the unneeded apps and the "bloat" that tmobil gave us so kindly. you can find guides that show you what can safely be removed, or you can install a custom rom which already has been thinned out. aside from this, clearing the app data in setting-applications can recover some of the space but depending on which app you clear you may need to login to apps like facebook the next time you use that app.
the options in there will have a 'move to sd' button if the app can be moved otherwise it will be greyed out. moving any that can be moved will help.
next will be the stock messaging app that stores its info in system, consider trying out go-sms or handcent as your messaging app and they will store most info on your external sd and help save system space...

Guess ill try rooting it. My problem seems to be that the phone thinks the Usb storage is the sd storage...and then external sd is actual sd. Sucks...cause it seemed to be a decent phone..but your tight..the bloatware is rediculous..any. smooth custom Roms u can reccomend?

Hello,
I have an XPERIA U and I'm running out of memory (no SD cart slot). I noticed the storage is partitioned: 2go for app storage and 4go for data (which is full). Is there a way to partition it so I have, let's say 750 mo for apps and the rest for data(music, files, etc).
I have seen a lot of tutorials but everytime, they're intended to be applied on a specific phone. Maybe I'm not using the correct term to designate the "mass storage" partition.
Thank you in advance!

Im thinking you mean 2GB for apps and 4GB for data? You need to clean out your sd card,by repartitioning, backup what you want to keep, but the way it looks right now, theres no way to do that at the moment, try scouring the forums and see if theres an alternative... http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1515
Oh ok...
Is there a way to move big game files (download by the app after the installation) to the app storage?
Edit: I managed to free 1,5gb using DiskUsage (looks like I can't provide external links, 10 post limit)! It provides a really nice diagram of your storages, allowing you to see useless files or big folders

Wooops! Yes I meant GB, we say octet instead byte in french, I didn't notice I wrote it this way.
I purchased a sprout cubby for my 3year old for Christmas im having an issue with the sd card... it seems the onboard drive was partitioned making the the second partition an internal sdcard my issue is this that partition is only 6gb of space and after only installing a handful of apps there is no space left for anything else.. id like to be able to move to apps to my 16gb external sdcard is there a way to do this eith by possibly dismounting the second partition or so other way I would prefer not to have to root the device at all as it will only be my 3 year olds tablet... this is the perfect device for her but I hate the lake of space...
please help!!!
Hi,
Unfortunately some of these tablets are a bit deceiving. They are advertised to have a specific amount of memory. However that does not take into account the amount of memory allocated towards system. But to only have 6 g off the bat seems a bit odd. There should be at least 10.
Now I also was unable to find anything relevant to your question for that device. It's not a common tablet for people who tinker. You can post your question here if you wish. However I truly do not think there is or will be a confirmed rooting method for this device.
Good luck!

Hello,
I own device JIAYU G5S+ the other name of it is probably Elephone p6i.
I am not using any external SD card. The storage of this device should be 16GB of memory. When the amount of application reaching approximetly 1.4 GB of space I got several errors also I am unable to capture any photos neither videos which is annoying.
I've tried factory reset, deleting catche and it had no effect. Deleting photos is useless too. Also I can't install more applications. I have no clue whats going on with.
Thanks for your advices.
Adding some screenshots.
PLEASE HELP!:crying:
no ideas? noone?
If you really read about the fake JIAYu G5S+ so if you knew that the data on the mobile are fake. Does the rom 16 gb,but only 4 .And therefore, you after crossing the free space it reports an yourself. The operating system of the a lot of takes itself + something on the run and on the phone memory remains 1 gb.Buy some external memory.

Is there another ROM which shows the real memory and so?
The good news: Adoptable Storage (aka using an SD Card as Phone Storage) is now available in build 00WW_3_206_SP01 (for the TA-1045).
The bad news: Using this expanded storage will corrupt your files.
After the update, if you insert an SD Card that the phone doesn't recognize as usable (ex. a wiped card, one used as 'phone storage' for another device, or one formatted as EXT4 or NTFS), you will get a notification. Tap that notification and you will be sent to a settings screen with a Format this SD card dialog already popped up onto it. Tap CANCEL on the dialog and you will be able to select Phone storage as shown here: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/move-android-apps-sd-card/ (Just tap CANCEL between steps 1 and 2).
After the procedure, it will seem like everything went swimmingly. However, if you had a lot of files on the internal SD Card and chose Move content, many of the images/apps/data that had been building up on the device are now corrupted. Images don't load, apps crash, and so on.
I have reproduced this on two different 6.1's and two different brands of SD Card. The files appear to get corrupted at random 4096-byte boundaries.
If you are a new phone purchaser or one who hasn't yet used an SD Card with your device, configuring expanded storage (which is what many 6.1 owners will want) will corrupt the apps, images, and other data that gets moved to the adopted storage.
I sure hope Nokia fixes this soon. It will be a nightmare for some users.
Yeah, it's really buggy atm. It keeps deleting all my pictures and apps take ages to load.

It looks like the pictures are deleted, but worse than that, they have actually been corrupted. When I transfer images back to my PC (via adb pull), I can see that the files don't match the originals and the corruption always begins at a multiple of 4096 bytes.
I hope you have backups of your pictures.

Nokia 6.1 Pie 9 did not fix adoptable storage for internal formating
I contacted Nokia support today. They are not aware of any fix for including internal formating in the future. I intend on checking with a different Nokia Support rep later to see if they have different reply.
Hello. Any news about it? My phone is ruined after this
So I guess Nokia does not want to own up to this?
I've been told that my only option is to unlock bootloader, root the phone, and then look for what might be left from the data on the phone. My guess it's corrupted inside the phone as well? It is pricey, and there is a chance the phone will be bricked. Right now I have the files on sd card that are not readable, AND the phone memory is also full, since the files where not properly moved, they are still there but inaccessible. If I go to settings-memory I see that I have 15 GB under Images, but no way to access it.
Anything you can add about this?
Thanks.
---------- Post added at 03:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:27 PM ----------
One more question. Is my only other option to do a factory reset to get the phone memory back, and forget about the files I lost? Since there will be no chance, even a small one, to recover anything ever after I do a factory reset...
I had this nightmare a few months ago. Fit my SD card, thought I was clever selecting the internal storage option and proceeded to migrate my files across. Seemed fine and didn't pay attention to it, then I started noticing that my photos weren't saving and files received through WhatsApp were screwing up.
I didn't fix it per-say, after much angst I tried to copy everything from my phone to my PC through ADB for later recovery and then proceeded to format the SD card to stop further corruption. To my surprise all the files that were there on my internal storage originally remained after formatting the card. The only things that were lost were the new files since I had installed the SD card.
It seems that the migration step doesn't actually migrate any files across and so there's a intact copy left on your internal storage and a corrupt copy on the SD card. I have no idea if the files that were stored in the internal storage can be overwritten, but I figured this tale might be helpful to you.
I'd recommend steering clear of the internal storage option on this phone or at very least backing up all your files before testing it. Other than the file encryption, it doesn't add that much functionality anyway.
is this still an issue please?
And is it just when migrating files please?
Though I must say I'm not surprised, I had an issue with a device pre-update (with normal storage that wasn't even quite full!) and was recommended to clear the storage app and boot loop it
Anyone have any luck with getting around the file corruption? On my 6.1 all apps moved to SD do not save data and most pictures are corrupted and unreadable. Thought I could clear everything off the SD, reformat and try again but don't know if it'll work.
Adoptable Storage is not going to work
In case it helps anyone still trying to get Adoptable Storage to work, I thought I'd contact Nokia support, and they told me that this feature is no longer supported even though their FAQ on their website provides instructions on how to enable it.
I'll leave the email thread down below if anyone wants to read it.

Subject: Re: MicroSD card as internal storage
Dear alonsogonzalez1997,
Thank you for your feedback!
Referring to your inquiry I would like to explain that this option on Nokia phones is no longer active. It is not possible to set the SD card as an internal storage because the SD card is not internal (SD), but only the copy is created. As a result, there is less memory space, and the phone software then relies on a third-party application just to work properly, what causes the phone to stop working.
Please if you are interested in freeing up space on your phone. Move files to SD card (you know you can move everything except applications). Or, you can back up your files to a Google Account.
This new features we brings to the phone with the latest updates in order to prolong phone life.
If you will have more questions feel free to contact us again.
I wish you a lovely day!

Google’s Android Developer website still lists it as a supported feature:

And I have screenshots where your website instructs myself as the consumer on how to format an SD card as an internal storage device. I would not have purchased a device like this with a limited amount of built-in storage had I not known I would not be able to format an SD card as internal storage. I also cannot maintain my files on two separate filesystems on this device.
Next time I need to purchase a new phone, I will be purchasing one that is not a Nokia device, but for now, I still need to know how to unlock the bootloader on my Nokia 6.1 so I can test aftermarket firmware options. Simply running an “oem unlock” command in Android fastboot does not unlock the bootloader even with OEM unlock enabled in Developer Options.

Subject: Re: MicroSD card as internal storage
Dear Alonso Gonzalez,
Thank you for contacting Nokia Mobile Care.
We understand the inconvenience of the situation you are facing and we are sorry that you feel that way.
It is good to know, that after updating to Android Pie it was developers decision to remove the option for formatting SD cards as internal storage due to customer safety reasons.
We hope that this information would be useful to you.
If you have any further questions, please, do not hesitate to contact us again here.
Does anyone know if the sd card can be used as internal storage or that the option to move apps to the external sd card will be available in android 10?
I'm getting really tired of the fact that my phone's internal storage is full
Sorry, I wish I could help. I gave up on it. I initially hacked it to make adoptable storage work but then ran into issues with Android updating save data to the card for any app I moved over. Then Nokia BRIEFLY, officially, supported adoptable storage and I switched to that. That was an even bigger train wreck. Files, photos, apps, were randomly disappearing or if you did find them they were corrupted.
But I did finally fix all these issues - dumped the Nokia and got a Samsung Galaxy 10e. I really liked the Nokia too and it was a very good Android One phone. The lone, single, solitary issue of not having any storage options was the only thing that pushed me away. I loved everything else about the phone.
The option to format the SD card is still there with OS 10. Has the mounting option been fixed I wonder?
This happened to me a while ago. Do not despair if this is you because there IS A FIX for this problem.
The error at 4096 bytes is thankfully one that goes both ways. So I saw that my photos were corrupted on my SD card after using the Nokia SD transfer.
Then I used the same option on the phone that allows you to transfer BACK to the phone memory. Whoever wrote the code for this must have summoned the reverse of the first process because ALL of the photos appeared on the phone.
Please try this before wiping your SD card.
