Hey all... I'm going on vacation this weekend and wanted to bring my Captivate with me to use as a media player attached to my car's video system. I haven't used this phone for a few months now (upgraded to a new phone), so I'm wondering which of the newer Roms have the video out (or is it called TV out?) feature working? Would anyone recommend one over another? Phone features are unimportant, as the only thing I'll be using it for are video and maybe music. Rather than flashing a bunch of Roms, I thought I'd ask the forum to see if anyone has used this feature lately and can confirm that it works on "Rom _____"
Thanks in advance!

So, from my own experience so far it appears that Odin 3.x does not work in Windows 8. The app will lock up the entire operating system while flashing.
Is anyone else having this experience?
I haven't tried odin, but MTP locks up the OS when I try to rename a file/folder or drag something into a different folder.

I have no problems with it. Also to the one bashing win8, do you have a basis for that? What is actually bad about it?

Its a mobile os forced onto a pc. Ive used every os ms has made and this one just makes me go wtf? If you need more there are tons of reviews you can read to fill in the gaps
I personally love windows 8 and I think Microsoft did a great job with it.
Doesn't beat my Mac though.

To be honest, I posted this to be a heads up, not a Windows 8 bashing. I have tried it on two different Windows 8 computers so far and same results (frozen OS).

Try right clicking on Odin, then properties, then run as Windows 7 and might work

But to continue with being honest....windows 8 really does suck. Especially on a PC and mouse.

No problems over here running Odin on Windows 8.

Good lord. Everyone knows that there are plenty of people (especially on internet forums) that are afraid of change, and the departure from former Windows releases scares them. If you don't like it, cool. Don't upgrade. Stop trying to convince the world not to use it. Not liking Windows 8 is a matter of opinion, not fact. I'm really disappointed that so many people cant just let it go. Stop hijacking other peoples honest attempts to solicit help to bash the product, please.

All I can say is wow! Doors are opening lately -
Do I have to download the 2nd file if I've already downloaded it from ubuntus website for my nexus 7? (the one with the word phablet in it)

Sent from my mom's basement.
I thought about building this until I saw that there isn't even support for 3G data yet (for any device). That and most apps are non functional. I'll definitely start building this once the data issues get worked out upstream.
Wow looks and feels awesome,i think ubantu will be more popular then android.

Yup. Couldn't get it to work. Really slick looking. It seems to be preloaded with contacts and messages. Didn't play with it that long.
SGH-I727 - Peace
has potential, won't be better than Android, at least for now. What I love most it that it didn't take to long for you to get it up and running. Hopefully later releases will be this easy as well. Thanks for the preview.

It says in the OP that data and wifi are not working. I assume that would mean no calls/messaging.

That's because it's based almost entirely off of CM-10.1, minus dalvik, and most Android/CM apps/services except the basic low level services. What I don't get yet is why, given that it's basically built on cm-10.1, that it doesn't even support 3G data on any device, and in our case, any data/wifi at all.

From what I've read in another places, WiFi has to be enabled through adb for it to work, possibly data as well, this is for WiFi but i haven't tried it yet:
Enable WIFI:
- adb root
- adb shell
- touch /data/local/userinit.sh
- vi /data/local/userinit.sh and put the following lines
- chmod 755 /data/local/userinit.sh
- reboot
Well shoot I guess this is reason enough for me to power up my Ubuntu machine and get a test area set up....see updated and working .. I'll want to see how it reacts with Ubuntu os and so forth..this has promise can't wait for our the next version....off to the rookie build thread for me

Not sure what's changed in the tree or defconf.
"You should be getting an OTA update soon — if you’re lucky — that will bring your Galaxy S3 to Android 4.1.2. The VRBMB1 build is about 150MB in file size, and for those who are wondering, here’s the full change log:
Keyboard Predictive Text has been improved
Users can take picture while on a call
Manual refresh button has been added to lock screen ticker
E-mail syncing has been improved
Enhanced Bluetooth performance
VZ Navigator and Amazon added to stub applications"
-Android Authority
Seems that is all that was added for now. I was hoping that premium suite would be rolled out sooner. Oh well, the joy of being rooted, and being able to install things like pop up browser anyway.
How is this different than the 4.1.2 leak we all been using for a week or so

You've got it all wrong the 4.1.2 "leak" that yiur believing is actually the ota that hit probably a week and a half ago. We've already gotten the ota we just needed source code to get the tar image file and such.

I have a buddy that uses this option all the time now that he has it. He makes vinyl signs and oftentimes while out working, speaking to a customer on the phone, it's helpful to be able to take a picture without having to hang up. Sure, not everyone will utilize this feature, but like a dozen other features on your phone, it's great to have them regardless of whether you'll actually use them or not.

Is there any way to run multiple roms on the Galaxy S3?
Say I want to boot and pick from PARANOIDANDROID Hyperdrive RLS14 Liquid smooth or any other one. Maybe run some off the ext SD would be nice as well. Can you do this? I search and couldn't find it, if there is a post can someone let me know. Not even sure if this is possible.. lol But would be sweet..
Thanks very much..
I would say yes, theoretically, since there seems to be enough space on the system partition for 2-3 roms. And this has been done for awhile on the iPhone (dual booting Android/iOS) but I'm no developer, so I don't know for sure
I'm hoping so. We were able to with the DROID X but who knows. It'd be pretty cool
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I haven't seen an option for dual boot or triple boot. I had that ability on my nook color and always liked it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
But I don't think you can run them off of the Ext SD Card, since it's data steam is slower in the way it's mounted
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
They have this for the droid 3 I came from, its called safe strap and it was pretty cool for trying out new roms and not worrying about bricking but it was for bypassing locked bootloader though. You can find out about it in the d3 forum but it would be nice to have something like that since we have so many ROMs to choose from.

Used to have this on my dinc2. App was called boot manager. Doesn't work with the s3 though....

Count me in as well for this feature
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Pretty sure the people who made the app stopped updating it, it was called boot manager.
I used it on my dx, bought the paid version and gave up. It wasn't really made for a locked up phone, you had to be running a cm based rom to dual boot, it was more hassle that it was worth.
Just make backups.
