[Q] US Cellular S3 to Verizon - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello all:
I currently have the original HTC incredible. Yes, old, I know. It's starting to get on its last legs and I wanted to upgrade. I did a bunch of reading and found that there are people that have been successful in taking a Galaxy S3 from US Cellular and using it on Verizon. I want to do this because I don't want to pay $600 for a new phone and I don't want to lose my unlimited data.
I have a friend's used Galaxy S3 from US Cellular.
I called Verizon and had them send me a SIM card as I did not have one before.
What do I do from here? I have looked in many places and was unable to find a clear set of instructions as to how to go about this task. A lot of people are saying "I stuck a SIM card in and it worked but didn't have 4G or SMS" or "I went to Verizon and had them activate a SIM card for me" Well, Verizon won't just activate a SIM card for me to stick in there. They want me to have the phone in hand. Do I need to root it or unlock the bootloader? Load a custom ROM? I have no idea how to start and finish.
Thanks

I just stuck my sim card and everything worked fine, except I have no LTE. I also flashed a Verizon rom and my phones been running like a champ.

flash rom?

[Q] rooted with custom rom cant activate to new number

I left sprint recently sold my phone with it rooted and and a patched ota rom on it. The guy went to get it activated and they couldn't get it done, said it was freezing up, sprint rep knew it was rooted, and said it needs to be back to stock unrooted???? Is this true? Anybody know?
Any time you take your phone to sprint ALWAYS UNROOT. They can tag the account. You should of unrooted before selling the phone

They were probably trying to get into the Activation Menu in ESPT. If they could not get it to work, that would be a clue that the phone was Rooted. But as mentioned in the post above. As a Rule of Thumb, never sell a phone Rooted. Also never take a phone into a Sprint store for any type of Tech work if it's Rooted. They can and most times do Flag the account. Not what you want. After that any phone issues you run into they may try to claim it's because your device is rooted.
Thanks I put it back to stock.
I didn't realize a rooted phone would not allow you to get into the "Activation Menu in ESPT"
You can get more money some times for rooted phones, but i guess not with Sprint. My bro sold a SGSII rooted for T-mobile for big bucks, but i guess with sim cards, it makes it easy.
Is the "Rule of Thumb" to return phones back to stock before selling for Sprint and Verizon phones only?
I'm sorry, I didn't properly explain. Rooting doesn't affect if you can get into ESPT or not. Rooted phones can still use ESPT without issue. But it does depend on the Rom on the phone. But yes as a " Rule of Thumb " , if the device is going to be Sold or taken in for service. No matter who the person, or carrier is it's always better if it's Unrooted.

Not to be rude but Verizon uses CDMA (like Sprint excluding Nextel products that use iDEN). Verizon phones domestically do not use sim cards. The only CDMA phones that use sim cards are dual mode international phones (the sim card is only used for GSM networks abroad). AT&T and T-mobile use sim cards domestically (GSM) so maybe one of those?

Thats not entirely true. LTE uses sim cards. Any Verizon phones with 4G will have a sim card.

Actually, from what I have read on the internet, Verizon LTE SIM cards are tied to activation of 3G CDMA on LTE equipped phones. I don't know how they did it, though. Also, I heard that Verizon LTE devices have the PRL loaded on the SIM card making it nearly impossible to flash a different PRL onto the phone. I even heard that Sprint is doing that with their LTE phones.

US Cellular Galaxy S3 on Verizon

I've googled this topic and searched and can't find any conclusive information.
I found a post online where a user put his Verizon SIM card in his US Cellular Galaxy S3 and it activated fine and worked for voice calls. He wasn't getting LTE and was having trouble with MMS, but no one responded to his question that I could tell.
Now I'm looking to do the same thing and am wondering if that guy had installed Verizon's ROM on the US Cellular S3 if that would have been all that was needed. I don't know if it is even possible to flash a Verizon ROM onto the USCC handset.
Anyone with any experience or ideas in this area?

AFAIK, thats what happens when you put a AT&T, Tmobile, or any other carrier sim card in another phone. ATT and tmobile are the only ones who will get data.
You can take a look at this thread..not sure if it will help. I've been able to get my friends ATT sim activated in my phone and everything worked but data.

[Q] Verizon Samsung Galaxy s3

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy s3, I have moved it to a straight talk plan, as most of u know there service runs off AT&T and T-moble, Verizon hates AT&T and blocks data use on there network everything but E, What i am trying to find out is can I root my phone and flash a AT&T rom over my Verizon branded phone so it will unlock my 4G? I already have the AT&T sim card in the phone.

I don't think it's going to work. When you signed contract with VZ, they locked your phone to their network. After the contract expired, they will unlock your phone so you can use it on any carrier. If you're not under contract, you can check with Verizon to make sure your network is unlocked, from here on you can use your ATT sim card to register with ATT. Second method, you can search for how to unlock Verizon network and try it. (input a special dial code to access the network unlock hidden menu and unlock from here).Good luck and post back.

The hardware does not support LTE for AT&T. I'd you want LTE on AT&T, buy A GSM phone (or AT&T S3) and live your life. Flashing another carrier rom is not advised by any means on the Verizon S3. Best you'll get with our S3 is edge or 3G. Verizon doesn't hate AT&T, they're incompatible networks because AT&T uses GSM bands and Verizon uses CDMA bands. A small number of phones work across multiple carriers as far as LTE but that's because they have every band included in the phone (for example the iPhone 5S). Other phones on Verizon will only get edge or 3G.

Thats all I really wanted to know i guess, is if the hardware was the same in all samsung galaxy sIII, I am still a noob with smart phones, I thought the hardware was all the same just the firmware was branded to whatever comp. sells them, and with the GSM\CDMA the galaxy sIII runs both.

I am not under a contract anymore and the network is unlocked, I can make calls and get mms, also with the AT&T SIM card the phone says AT&T at the top of the screen all the time, just still boots as a Verizon.

OK, now I understand what you are looking for. It's not recommend to flash rom from one carrier to another, you could hurt your device. I thought you 're looking to move from VZ to ATT, but seems like you already done that (network unlocked), and now you just want to change the boot animation (Verizon logo during boot up). You should search for VERIZON modified rooted stock rom or custom rom with bootanimation kernel support. Once you installed custom rom/kernel you should able to pick and chose from many bootanimation liking to your taste..and change greeting, display etc...

This is very very Dangerous because you can destroy EFS-Partition (IMEI, etc) so you cannot call or surf anymore!!!
Don't do something like that!

[Q] Can I switch to T-mobile simply by changing my SIM card?

I have a VZW Galaxy S3 that is rooted, running the latest SlimKat ROM (probably not important, but just in case). I have a T-mobile nano sim that I was thinking of activating for a month just to test out their service and see if I wanna switch.
Would it be as simple as activating the SIM card online and popping it in my phone? Is there anything else I need to do? Like maybe something with APNs?
Thanks!

You might have to add a T-Mobile apn, but I know that when I switched carriers and then flashed a new rom, the apns were automatically set for that carrier. Maybe you can reflash the system and see if the apn gets automatically set.

Straight talk SCH-S986C

So I snagged a straight talk galaxy S3. I've already got it rooted running official cm12 for the Verizon varient. Is it at all possible to get this thing to pick a verizon/page plus sim? From looking around I've come to the conclusion that the Verizon S3 is the most similar. What would be the options?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Anyone?

There is a sim slot. I actually have Verizon contract. After flashing everything an changing a few settings I have talk, text and data but its steady roaming..I wonder if I'll get charged for roaming? Anyways I'm sure if everything is working there's gotta be a way to stop it from roaming.

Maybe a modem? Been scared to try it because I'm confused as to what will cause my boot loader to lock.
Don't know why it worked but *228 just fixed my roaming problem. I thought you couldn't *228 a LTE phone? I know the straight talk S3 has 4G disabled but I'm still running a 4G LTE sim card. This is really strange lol. Never in a million years would I have thought I could get a prepaid phone running on Verizon contract. Maybe pageplus will work as good so I can get away from these high bills and get unlimited internet.

Wondering what it takes to make this phone a full Verizon phone. It runs off the Verizon towers, its running a Verizon ROM and recognizing it as a i535. What else would need to be changed? And exactly where do they disable 4G? In the modem or physical hardware of the phone? Maybe someone will help! I do not want to use this s4 anymore. Locked bootloaders kill me lol.

Well I'm making the switch to straight talk today. Hopefully cdma workshop can get 4G working. I've searched and searched and I can't find any explanation as to why or where the 4G is deactivated. by the process of elimination, I've come come to the conclusion that it has to be in the physical hardware. I'm going to try one more thing before I start tinkering with cdma workshop. I'm going to try to flash a d2lte rom to see if that does it. anyone know of a lollipop d2lte rom?

I didn't find any with a search but If I come across one I'll post it here, the two d2vzw lollipop roms I seen are both lollipop but not & d2lte roms.
I think the issue with the straight talk S3 is indeed the hardware, they managed to remove the 4G option on this variant and the VZW prepaid version also

I'm wondering if the process they used is the same process page plus retailers used on 4G devices..because my girlfriend had a Verizon s3 that they had to flash to 3G so it can be used on pageplus..when she switched to a note 2 a few weeks ago they told her they offered Verizon's 4G coverage now and she would get it on her note no flashing required. Worked right outta the box. We took her old s3 and hooked it up for my mom. They said that it had to be flashed back to 4G so I'm wondering if straight talk flashed this phone to 3G only with flashing software..if so, is there a free program anywhere to do this? The CDMA workshop trial has never given me the outcome I was looking for.

About 2 weeks ago I was using this straight talk s3 on Verizon postpaid, not prepaid. I just flashed a Verizon ROM and setup the apns and threw my Verizon sim card in and it worked. If you are saying that you were on Verizon because you had the Verizon wireless showing in your status bar or because it said it in your phone somewhere then no you weren't on Verizon, your phone showed that stuff because it has that stuff in your build.prop, that doesn't mean you were on Verizon, the only way to actually be on Verizon is if you actually setup an account with them and activated the phone on their network. Supposedly Verizon won't let you activate a straight talk phone on Verizon account, this device is not able to carrier unlock and that's what you have to do to actually switch carriers and use your IMEI on another network. It shows SCH-I535 because of the build.prop, all of that Verizon stuff and the i535 stuff can be edited in the build.prop, that has nothing to do with who you actually have service with, that's just there because its written in the ROM.
