Hi, just been having a read through the posts on this phone, My Mrs has this and there's a significant lack of memory available.
It apparently has 512RAM, however the user useable part of this seems more like 64. She's moved as many apps as possible to the SD card, but still keeps getting errors for lack of available memory.
Is there anyway around this? I've seen some threads about apps that will extend the ram to your SD card giving you more available.
Will a new ROM give any help on this? or is it a case of new phone
She's only using Facebook, Text, Phone, occasional internet on stock browser, and that's about it at the moment, but others would be nice for her. Not a good experience for her introduction to Android IMHO.
Is the phone already rooted?

Not yet, Its still stock as it's the Mrs phone and she doesn't tamper.

Well,, first of all.. try to differ between RAM and internal memory. They're two different things.
RAM (Random Access Memory) is the memory for ur phone processing. It consist ur applications that currently working, i.e. when u open message, the RAM decreases since ur message app use some space of memory to work. when u open another app, the RAM will decrease again.
Internal Memory here is the space for ur apps storage. When u installed some app, it take space in order to succeeded when install. Each time u installed an app, the space will be decreased.
I guess that when u look into that phone, that 64 of memory there is an internal memory, not the RAM which u supposed to think. So, please notify it first. Is it really the RAM or just Internal Memory.
to know your RAM and Internal Memory space, u can access like this.

However please bear with me, being new to technology, I've only worked with it since 1998, but RAM = Random Access Memory. I've never heard of Raw. same as ROM is Read Only Memory, and EPROM is Electronically Programmable ROM (IE you can flash it.)

Hi.
I've been using Windows Mobile for about 10 months now, and have been very happy with it and blah blah blah...
One thing that I really don't understand, is the memory "settings" page.
It shows storage and program memory, as well as a seperate tab for my storage card. Could someone please explain to me what the storage memory and program memory are? I know they're both my internal memory (as in, not my SD card), but don't get why there's 2! I would have thought it makes more sense to just have a value for the "fixed" memory, and a value for removable memory.

Storage memory is like the HDD on your PC, it's the where you store the data.
Program memory is the RAM, where the programs are loaded to run.
Thanks syqe - that makes sense. Typical Microsoft to call something we're all 100% familiar with by a different name!
It also makes me happy because it means I've got shedloads of space left on my internal drive

Storage Memory is the memory on your device which is available for installation of new applications/data.
Program memory is somewhat like the RAM on your PC. when you run an application from your Storage Memory, it loads to your Program Memory to run, just like on PC, when you run an application and it loads to your RAM.
Storage Card memory is the memory on your storage card.
Now the question is how to get things off of your storage memory and onto your high capicity microSD card?
Also, how do you manage your Ram aside from the simple task managers on windows mobile phones? Is there a more advanced task manager that will show you what the hogs are and let you determine if they are worth it?

The best for that is SKTools... there is also dotfred task manager (this 1 is free) but I'd rather pay 30 bucks for SKTools.

I have the ChaCha of a few days now ... GREAT device; I love the qwerty keyboard, its even better as my Blackberry qwerty for sure....
BUT 512 MB onboard is not enough, I try to move as much as possible apps to my SD ... but still only 12MB free....
SO maybe in a next ChaCha version more ram ... (and an other color )

its only aprox. 150mb.

RAM is not the same thing as internal storage, FYI. And yes, the internal storage is pitiful, but if there was 512MB of it, the situation would be much better. 512MB is adequate for the RAM, unfortunately that isn't the case for the onboard storage.

The 150MB internal memory is really ridiculous! I'm constantly getting the "not enough memory" when I try to install a new app or even when I try to open standard things like Facebook!! It's been 2 days now I can't seem to open the Facebook for HTC application with the dedicated Facebook button. It keeps saying that I need at least 5120KB of free memory, but I can't free up more memory. I've copied all the possible apps to the SD card en I constantly remove cache memory of ALL the applications, but still it is not enough to free up 5120KB!! Aaaarrrggghhh... :s someone please provide us with a new ROM so we can dedicate virtual memory as internal memory!

I couldn't agree more. That's the most annoying thing ever! I'm sick of it... Especially that almost all google apps can't synchronize while we have this issue.. That's really unacceptable...

So the Status only has 150M free internal storage? Wow, that's terrible.. My Nexus 1 on stock ROM only has 190M.
Froyo Apps2SD can only help so much here. Wife is looking at this phone, but the weird screen res/orientation, quirky ROM, insufficient storage..... Not so sure.

Yeah, that sucks. I was stuck at 2 MB free even after moving my apps to SD until I finally just did a factory reset. Then, I set my default app install location to SD card (http://androinica.com/2010/08/how-to-install-apps-to-the-sd-card-by-default-on-android-2-2-froyo/) and from then I settled to 20-30 MB of free space after reinstalling all my apps. Not a lot, but enough, and definitely better than 2 MB.
That's the best solution I can think of until we get some smaller ROMs out.

Smaller ROMs wouldn't help, unless I'm misunderstanding what you guys are discussing.. Considering there some talk of "memory"... well anwyay.
Unless the ROMs partitioned differently, the ROM is generally in /system and the user apps are in /data, which sounds like it's around a 250M partition. dalvik-cache and some other stuff is going to always be in there, reducing the actual effective available space.
Anyway. Wife is still semi-interested, I'll poke on the phone when we see one.
no choice, have to wait for root & app2sd, that will resolve the problem...
Im using galaxy S2 and bought one chacha for my wife, when using it, except the keyboard, I felt like drop from heaven to hell
S2 is the size of a table tho. Horses for courses!

I continually run out of space on my blaze's internal memory.I can't sync certain things, like evernote does not have enough space to save notes. I can't do any backups because there is not enough available memory.
I don't think I have an excessive amount of apps, and have put as many on the external sd card as possible. I don't have any games stored on the internal memory, nor any media save a few pictures.
If I look at the applications on the sd card(the internal card) It says I'm using 1.3gb. Just a quick tally and I hardly have more than 70mb in the size of the applications. Am I missing something? Previous phones I have used with less memory have not encountered this. Is there any screenshot or other info that may help?
Any assistance is gratefully appreciated.

Are you on custom ROM/kernel? If so, which ROM/kernel are you using?
some questions
are you using a custom rom? do you have CWM? If you have cwm maybe a backup is on there along with titanium backups... that would eat up a gig.
Best advise is to connect it to your pc and check where all the space is being used.

I believe by default the pictures and video files are saved to internal storage so I would check on that too.
I am using the darkknight rom build 3. Sorry for not mentioning that. But I encountered this same issue while running stock. I know the majority of the pics are on the external sd.
I do have cwm and ti on this. THese cannot be setup to use space on the external sd can they?
I would suggest booting to recovery, format /cache and dalvik-cache partitions.
Fix perms, and reboot.
You stated you had low MEMORY so that leads me to believe your device is cluttered with temp and cached files which can be easily removed by doing what I stated above.
Keep in mind ladies and gents, memory is different from storage.
However, the issues you stated above could indicate a low STORAGE issue.
So, if you are having a storage problem, then you need to figure out what is taking up so much space on your device. That can usually be determined by going to settings>storage and looking at the output that is displayed.
For more advice, please let me know that it is a low MEMORY issue or a STORAGE issue.
Try out an app called DiskUsage, it works a lot like WinDirStat for PCs.
That way you can find what's taking up a ton of data
I'm a little confused. I thought i read somewhere the blaze had 4gb of internal memory. Why am i only showing up with 1gb system memory. But also like 2gb usb storage but what is that?

It comes with 4gigs internal and 4gigs external. The internal is used for the OS and system apps. I installed GTA anniversary edition and it took up all my USB storage...then it got deleted.

Sorry for not clarifying, its a storage issue. I should have been a little more exact with my posting...
Incidentally, I cleared up about half a gig by deleting the ti backup folder's contents,
You can change the location of your backups in Titanium by going to preferences-> and scroll down to 'Backup folder location'. Look next to the 'DETECT' button and that will show you the current path. It defaults to 'mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup'. Change it to 'mnt/sdcard/external_sd/TitaniumBackup' by pressing the back button and navigating to the right place. The removable storage (sd card) on the Blaze is the sdcard/external_sd path. That way you will still be able to have your backups.
Thanks, there was about half a gig in the ti backup folder, so this should fix my problem.

No, sorry, widgets need to be on the internal storage to work properly.
How do i get games like gta and spectral souls to install to my external?? Those games took up all the internal memory. It type suck because theres no space to cache up music from my google music library.

OK so this is my problem...and need help quick BEFOOREE!!
Ok....so I've had the phone for about three months now and i'm beginning to think that this is a problem that I can't resolve on my own..meaning I might have to get a new phone...I'm running the custom ROM and have not rooted the phone.. The problem started when I tried to sedn pictures through my messages. The phone would say..Not enough memory get rid of some stuff.... so i started uninstalling apps that i really don't need. Problem didn't seem to resolve itself, so since everything is backed up to googles ( as far as contacts and apps) I did a system reset to no avail. Seems like I'm having the same problem. Now I have an 8Gb Sd card mounted in system and when I try to move apps into the Sd card it says not enough memory??? Even after system reset. So this is what it says on my storage window... System Storage 0.89GB....USB Storage ( by the way wtf is this??) 1.40 GB and then the SD card with Total space : 7.40 GB Available 7.35GB...I can't seem to move anything into the USB or Sd cards... and yes the Sd card is mounted, or so the system says.... for the sake of not throwing the phone out of the window please help!!
I'm noticing....*whilst* playing around that it seems my phone thinks this USB storage is the SD card. when i check applications and see those in the SD card it shows me those on USB storage...and nothing seems to go to Sd card. I tried downloading apps2 sd and it says same thing...not enough memory...because those few appas I have are taking the whole 2 GB's of space in this invisible usb storage??? in settings-storage, the sd card shows your external sd, usb storage shows the internal space and system shows the system space. this phone has very small system space. my solution was to root the phone and remove the unneeded apps and the "bloat" that tmobil gave us so kindly. you can find guides that show you what can safely be removed, or you can install a custom rom which already has been thinned out. aside from this, clearing the app data in setting-applications can recover some of the space but depending on which app you clear you may need to login to apps like facebook the next time you use that app.
the options in there will have a 'move to sd' button if the app can be moved otherwise it will be greyed out. moving any that can be moved will help.
next will be the stock messaging app that stores its info in system, consider trying out go-sms or handcent as your messaging app and they will store most info on your external sd and help save system space...

Guess ill try rooting it. My problem seems to be that the phone thinks the Usb storage is the sd storage...and then external sd is actual sd. Sucks...cause it seemed to be a decent phone..but your tight..the bloatware is rediculous..any. smooth custom Roms u can reccomend?

I tried various methods like Cache Cleaner, ES File Explorer (to clean log files etc). However, the problem would return back. Than I learned about applications like Roehsoft's RAM Expander that can create a swap file to increase the RAM. My phone is compatible with the app as the result of test done their 'MemoryInfo-SwapCheck' app shows. Since, this is a paid app, I wondering how does it hooks into the Android System so that the:
# Android is aware of the swap file
# Android is able to use the swap file as an extension of its RAM
# Any effect on performance since I/O from internal RAM would much much faster than from a memory card

The warning you're getting is not related to low RAM but rather low on internal memory (internal sd card) because Android will never warn you about low ram ( it has a low memory killer that kills running apps in background when low on RAM).

I rooted the tablet already and granted the app RAM Expander from Roehsoft root permissions, but when i try to use the app i get the following message: "This path is not available for swap!" Image below:

Personally have experienced that Virtual RAM ( aka SWAP RAM ) can only get created on a device's internal storage memory ( aka /sdcard ).
Hint: As path manually enter /data .

Also take note that an Android apps' memory usage by design is limited to some MBs. Even if you increase in Android's system file called build.prop the related amount, it's not sure that this is taken into account: an app's develeoper allows this or not.
And keep in mind that apps that did not fit in the RAM before without swap do not suddenly fit in the RAM.
Don't expect wonders using Roehsoft's RAM Expander. Probably you may not notice any gain in device's performance.

Honestly I never used Roehesoft's RAM Expander on a real Android device and I'll never will use it: In my eyes it's crap. And, you'll find no serious confirmations in the WEB that it works as claimed.
Android for good reason doesn't come with SWAP feature. Android's Memory Manager frees RAM if necessary.
It's on you to play around with Roehesoft's RAM Expander. Good luck.

SWAP is a place on the internal storage memory (usually a dedicated partition) that is used to store programs or data that can't fit in memory, like when a program grows more than the available RAM (BTW: In the world of Windows this space is called Swapfile.sys ). SWAP is way slower than RAM, so when you create / enable SWAP the phone gets slower, but at least the program can work.
All the stuff that can't or shouldn't stay in your RAM is written out to SWAP and read back in when needed. This means that the SWAP medium needs to be fast and resilient to lots of writes.
IMHO using an external SD card as SWAP fails on both counts. It is slower at reading/writing than a phone's internal drive, and each of its constituent sectors can only be written to a limited number of times before they wear out and can no longer reliably store data.
