[Q] Nasty Forum Rulez for New members ? - General Topics

Dear All,
I have registered not to spam nor to write crap. I registered to part of developers comunity and actively participate in the development... now i can not even write in the portion for devs.
Please remove this ridiculous restriction !

Stop moaning, the rules are there for a reason. Go to your device's z General and Q&A forums and help some other users out.
'Development' does not mean posting in the Dev forums just to say thanks or report a bug that 10 other people have already reported.

As SimonTS already said, the 10 post rule and the other restrictions were put up for some good reasons. The reasons do not include making you feel like you are an unworthy loser...if you try to make 10 quality posts, then chances are your posts into the Development forums won't be viewed as useless spam...and nobody wants useless spam in the Development forums. Here are a couple of good guides, I hope they help:

[Q] whats the problem .. my thread has been closed !! why ?

my thread has been closed
here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12385612
????
why ????????????????????
Probably because the forum is called "Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking".
Your thread neither developed something nor hacked something.
People should not post question in development forums.
can u tell me y i cant reply in most forums plz?
You need to have at least 10 usefull posts (i.e. helping others) befor you are allowed to post in development related forums.
The forums moderators hope that by that time, the users won't neglected the xda rules and start asking questions in DEVELOPMENT related forums.
Make some good posts helping people and the moderators will unlock your account for other forums.
seriously, I wish I could help as many people as I can. But without even getting a good channel to air my questions, my knowledge standard is too poor to even help myself.
Are you following my post ?
You don't need posts to get knowledge and experience....
Just time to READ!
Usually even using google is enough to answer most questions.
Still most people are too lazy to use google befor making a new thread....

Welcome to XDA Dev! You are a noob with stupid questions, please produce spam!

chilaxed, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Please Read: New members (those with fewer than 10 posts) are not permitted to post to development-related forums. The developer forums are intended for experienced users and developers to discuss ways to improve technical aspects related to ROMs and Software. While you may be an expert, we ask ALL users to avoid posting questions about using or installing ROMs and software in the Development Forums. To encourage this new Users can read but not post in these forums.
To ask Questions about developing your device, installing ROMs, software and themes you must go to the Q&A or General Forum.
Remember, your question has very likely been asked already, so please search before posting.
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I understand new users can be annoying, but this... I mean really? Do the administrators of this site think they are running the only technology-related forum on the internet? Is it impossible to believe someone may already be familiar with common-sense forum etiquette? That maybe someone already has experience and knows how to solve their own problems without spamming and general noobery? And what makes them assume I'm asking a question? After months of lurking I found a ROM I liked enough that I decided to actually register, just to thank the author and report some minor graphical and performance issues. But apparently this website is absolutely certain I'm just a noob trying to ask a stupid question, so I'm forced to generate ten posts of spam before I can actually contribute... as some sort of way to prevent spam? Am I the only one who sees this as being completely pointless and counter-productive?
Oh and yes, this thread is full of (rhetorical)questions! But I'm afraid of what further condescending and presumptuous harassment will ensue from checking the box.
Not at all as proven by this thread. The rules were put into place to prevent spam but also to teach people how to search. (which you didn't do)

You need to fulfill the 10 post rule first. Most threads are development threads, therefore new members are not allowed to post until the 10 post minimum is met. This doesn't mean go and make 10 spam/junk/worthless posts either. Someone is always watching for this kind of behaviour.

to all members here, although we are newbies here, we are aware of the rules in this forum because i am also a member in some forums. i hope you will considerate us. we chose to be a member here because this forum has a lot of things that we needed and some answers for our questions. if that's the case that we need to post 10 or more than posts, then please allow us here to post. don't closed it first until we reach 10 posts.

Threads are only closed for irrelevant posts/spam. Make a worthwhile post and it won't be deleted/locked/removed. Pretty simple really. Everyone needs to bear in mind that this forum is intended for developers. Which 90% or better of you are not.
There are already plenty of threads that discuss this topic, so we don't need a new once (hence the closure).
One of my favourite reasons for the 10 post rule is that it encourages most users (the less spammy and needy ones) to spend more time reading than trying to post in development forums. If you do spend enough time reading you find that 99% of your questions have already been answered, and you learn a hell of a lot and start being able to answer questions yourself. That's a great way to take part in the community as a contributing member. In fairness, if you come here to leech and not participate then you're not adding anything to the forum.
Anyway, if you want more info then see the link in my signature about 10 posts - that should answer more questions

[Q] About the 10 messages policy in development forums

Hi there,
I'm starting this thread to tell about my frustration about the 10 messages policy currently in use in the development forums.
Since months, I installed several roms, kernels and mods on my phone and sometimes I have serious problems to report. Sometimes I also want to express my gratitude to the developers. But I can't ! Because it is not allowed to reply in these forums if I have less than 10 posts.
I have strictly no interest to post in forums that are not related to my phone. Thus, I don't think I can fulfill the 10 posts requirements.
So what should I do? Shall I post some dummy replies to topics that do not concern me, so that I can raise my post count to 10? That's probably what happens already with people who really want to post in development forums.
That said, I guess that the purpose of this policy is to limit the number of inexperienced users spamming the development threads. I don't know if that is really efficient, but I find it annoying at best.
I think that XDA should dump or revise this policy.
Just my two cents.
Ah, and sorry if my English is not correct, I'm French.
You can always help the users in their doubts in q&a and general section... Try helping the users... You won't even remember the count of your posts.
And about the gratitude part : there's a thanks button... You want to express your gratitude... Press the thanks button to the many ROMs you tried... No need to write useless thank you posts.
We all had to go through that, you'll manage too
I checked out the Q & A thread and tried to answer where I could, or in posts asking for an opinion or which rom/app we're on. If you've installed a few roms before I'm sure you can answer some of the questions here
Well, bro, I agree with you to some extent. The policy may be somewhat annoying to people concerned with development related works only. However the rules must be respected.
Well, if you want to report a problem, you can simply send a PM to the developer concerned. Developers are always ready to help you if a problem crops up despite following the instructions correctly. And I'm sure they do check their messages out frequently.
As for showing gratitude towards developers, you can simply press the THANKS button. It is way better than myriad posts just saying thanks.
You can also share your knowledge in other forums if you intend to increase your number of posts. BONUS: Reply here and increase a post
Your English ain't bad, by the way
Thread like this one is the reason it was made. Had you followed the rules and searched before posting then you would have found dozens of threads that say the same thing with the same reply.

[Q] Need help on posting my query in developer thread

Hi,
I installed Zelly Cream ROM by Gagan and have issues to report. But i'm not able to post my issues in his ROM thread because im not 10 posts old.:crying::crying:
Im sad for not being able to get assistance from the developer for the issues im experiencing. I also have some nice +ve feedback for Gagan.
Its no point in preventing a user of a ROM, Kernel & ..... to post their views.i think
can someone guide or redirect me to the correct thread.

So better go to General/Q&A sections and just try helping out the fellow XDA members by helping them answer their queries, thus improving the number of posts.

thanks techpick,
I have read this post by admins and understood the restriction.
But, wt I thought is, as a user of Zellycream ROM, I should be able to post by feedback, issues etc regardless of the number of post i posted in XDA. initially thot of sending a message to the developer bt reaslised it may spam his messagebox.
I understand that this rule is to stop noobs and unwanted flooding of dev threads...but there are many posts in different threads by noobs n inappropriate comments, just because they are morethan 10 posts old.
I felt somehow its unfair to stop the users to post their views about their experineces.
now i have to post some or the other threads just to be >10 posts member.

The 10 post rule may seem unfair but it is set up to protect the best parts of xda...the development forums. It is really important that you try to make your first 10 posts count and not post 10 useless posts of spam. Here are a couple of guides: 10 post guide:
