Did the same mod i had with my note 2. Cut the stock back and back of the hard case in the defender and there is a little bulge but the battery should last quite a bit longer
interesting. how much battery life are you getting with this?
Just installed today but I will post updates my anker on the note 2 gave me incredible battery life
How much thicker is this battery as compared to the stock 2600mah?
Not bad bro....but someone's got some 'splainin to do! Case is soft and TPU-ish or...? Looks like lots of give(?)

The otterbox defender has a hard plastic inner (green in this case [pun intended]) and a soft, silicone outer case, the purple. You snap on the inner case, then the soft outer case stretches over after.
This post was created and transmitted completely in analog.
Nice....I've been educated. Thanks! Looks good

First charge on battery I am at 15 hrs on battery and 2 and a half hours screen on time and am at 77% battery. Not too bad I guess. Coming from the note 2 with moderate usage I only had to charge every 3 days or so, sometimes more often but I can't expect this to live up to a 6500mah battery lol screen brightness is at about 70% and on lte the whole time.

Wow!!!! I dude that's amazing, and I'm going to do the exact same thing... I wanted the extended battery just wanted a more rugged case then nothing at all... I awesome idea thanks for sharing!
Oh does it still clip in the holster just fine? I'm sure it has to go face down.

Yeah, it doesn't change anything on the outer part of the hard case where the holster clips fit. There is just a slight bulge where the battery sticks out of the hole that is cut. I don't use the holster but I clipped it back in just to check. Once the zerolemon 7500mah battery comes out in am going to see if that is a possibility with this setup. I know I'll have to cut more but if it doesn't look too ridiculous and will fit under the silicone case, that bad boy is going in there lol
Hahaha yea that may be a bit more than I really need, lol! So did you buy a replacement back to cut or did you cut your original one. Second thing I wonder and I may just try but see if the edges of the battery can be rounded a bit to not make it look so pointy... But I'm so mad I didn't think about doing this... I really wanted to larger battery and I started to buy the Anker 5200mAh extended battery off amazon but then was worried about not having a case for it (I work outside digging, climbing poles, etc) so I need some protection. So I ended up getting the 2 Anker 2600mAh spare batteries with the wall charger for the batteries. Which works great but I can still kill a battery with my heavy usage so that means I gotta carry the second battery with me.
Really like this and I'm going to order my battery and case tomorrow I think.
Any idea why Anker doesn't have the 5200mAh batt available anymore tho??? Wanted to keep the same brand I already have. And I've had good luck with these batteries so far.
Thanks man

You cut the stock back and the otterbox back to allow the battery clearance. If you didn't put the stock back on there then it would be lose and allow dirt and dust in the phone.
I did the same mod by the way lol

prob not, i know for my old Droid 2 there were hardly any cases that supported the moto extended battery (i think 1 did)
Since i still can't tell if samsung actually has an official extended battery they say that supports the charge, i can't see many manufactures making one.

I actually prefer the heft. Thought the stock slim battery is too light and weak. The extended battery is giving me 18-22 hours of moderate usage.

Yea, I must admit i havent seen a case for it anyplace. not even in china. I hear it fits inside a clip. i tried mine. but it seems to JUST fit. and floppy. prob will fall out
Hyperion now has a silicon skin that fits with their 3500mAh extended battery. The description says it should also fit with most other 3500mAh or 3600 mAh extended batteries.

Thanks. I just installed my new Hyperion extended battery yesterday and it is too slippery I dropped it once already. Out of necessity, I cut out a hole on the standard size case. It's doable, but ugly from the back, which I don't care since I only see the front side anyway. Lol.
I'm more interested in how the front facing buttons would operate and feel with the rubbery cover.
TIA
Any experience with the powerskin? Any other alternatives? I really am looking for a case with extra battery and not just extra batteries or a different back cover. I like the idea of a case/battery combo.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk
I know some people who use it and it works for them but a lot of the reviews say it stops charging after a few months...
For the same price you can get the sedio 3800mah battery (60$ ) and then get the case for the extended battery also from sedio (20$ ) which might be a little bit more reliable..
Iirc, the phone won't deep sleep with the powerskin. You don't even need a battery that big. Nexus extended is far more than enough. You don't need one at all. I run 24 hours plus on stock with over 5 hours screen on, gtalk and text all day, emails, fb, weather, words with friends, stream music, and more.
With the nexus extended I'd need a new cover? If so, are there cases that accomdate for the new back cover?

That battery is awesome. I've had it for two days now. I am a moderate to heavy phone user, and it is sitting at 43% after 15 hours of being unplugged. 40% of that is screen time.
I had the power skin, worked great for awhile but now the USB cord on the bottom to connect to the phone stopped working. I could probably have it serviced under warranty but....yeah don't want to bother it wasn't that good
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I am on my 4th Powerskin for my SR in less than two months. They either die and stop working or the charging port gets worn down so it only makes contact when you hold it and put pressure on it. It is realistically about an extra 75% added to your battery, but your phone uses it to stay 100% charged so none of your battery saving features work. Would recommend a larger replacement battery over a case battery. I ended up buying extra andido batteries off amazon and plan on giving that a try over this.
I bought it at AT&T so they keep giving me replacements but will not give me a refund.
Do not recommend.
On my 2nd powerskin and it along with the 1st one stopped recharging......waste of time. Plus it makes it bulky.
I went through two of them. The last one overheated my phone and killed it :-( at&t gave me a new phone and I changed to an otter box.

Anyone who has used an extended battery for our Verizon GS3, what brands are good or what have you had good experiences with? I never messed with an extended battery before. And yes, I do know if they are big it will come with a new back cover for compatibility of the thickness.
I personally haven't used any extended batteries yet, but within the last couple hours a lot of the android news blogs have been posting about genuine samsung brand batteries at 3000mah. Looks like you get an extended case with it that doesn't seem 'that' big.
Still it's 60 bucks though, more than I paid for the phone, haha.
Edit: ugh.. since I'm a new member apparently I can't post links yet, just google: samsung galaxy s3 extended battery
You should see it in the news.
I picked up the Hyperion 4400 of eBay for like 25 and it's amazing. I get around 9 hours screen time the larger back feels much better in my hands. And there customer service is amazing. The back was as little loose so I emailed them and they sent me a brand new back... And battery!
By the way there is a couple really good comparison threads in the accessories section you may want to check out.
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!

I picked up the Qcell batteries and a charger for $36 a few months ago on Amazon, now it's just $25 for two batteries and charger..
I've been very pleased with them!
Wife's using the QCell 4200 mAh battery. She loves it. She uses it all day, and has yet to see it go below 60%. And she spends the entire work day in a lower signal area.
Hyperion works great. I got the 4200 with NFC. My cover cracked too and I emailed them and the same day they sent me a new one with no questions asked.

We've had the phones for going on three months now. So about 2.5 months. It's a great battery. Battery cover isn't so hot though. It's the same thickness around the entire cover. So the camera and flash are in these deep holes. Pictures without flash come out ok, but pictures with flash have sort of a pinhole effect where the picture is much brighter around the center, and too dark at the edges. I'm getting her a Seidio back that I've been told will fit. The Seidio back tapers toward the top, so that the camera and flash are not covered at all. I had the same type of back with my old Evo, and it worked perfectly.

I purchased the Anker 4400mAh Extended battery off of Amazon for $20 (it doesn't support NFC though). I have had the phone on for over two days at one point with medium to heavy usage, and it still hasn't reached below 40%. The only downside I didn't consider when purchasing an extended battery was that the cases I had previously bought to cover the phone would not fit of course, so I purchased two additional extended battery cases (which aren't all that great compared to the standard cases). Check out the reviews on that battery, most of them are excellent.
Right now I rock the Seidio Kickstand case and I know they make another case for extended batteries. I've been happy with this cases so I'm a try it out.
Once I get the Seidio back to use on the Qcell battery and verify that it does indeed fit, I am going to pick up the Seidio kickstand case for it. I have the kickstand case that fits the stock battery right now, and it is a great case!

Right on. Seidio does good work. I like the fact that the kick stand cases are soft on the side but hard on the outside. I read the extended battery version is made for the 3,500 mAh battery but my colleague bought the extended back (not the battery, just the back cover + extended case) and he said it fits his other extended batteries that exceeded 4,000 mAh.
I purchased the Anker 5200mAh Battery from Amazon located here sadly it looks like it has sold out at the time of writing this but i would assume it will return so i will post my review.
i received the battery last night at gave it a full charge at then unplugged it at 7:30pm EST and i will leave it uncharged until it dies to see the results.
1st Impressions:
1. it looks huge and it adds weight. i threw it in the scale and it weighed in at 6.5oz with battery and provided back cover
2. the fit and finish of the back cover is as nice in every way as the stock except that it does not match exactly the stock color. since i have the black S4 the slightly different color added no damage to the look of the phone with the metal band separating the back from the black front. it really looks right.
3. the back cover is a little slick to the touch and if this was going to be my daily driver i would want to figure out a way with either a possible cover that fit it or some kind of application to give it a little more grip. this will not be a daily driver though and so i find it to be no big deal.
4. NFC worked just fine for me. i sent a contact to another NFC phone with no issues.
Here are some pics:

I supposed to be getting Anker 5200 mAh as well and will review it sometime next week, along with S4 I'm waiting for now. Btw, while I'm waiting, I asked Anker for dimensions on how much does it adds to thickness and got this picture. Just by looking at the picture itself, it doesn't look too bad.

great if it works i will order one. thanks
I'm happy with mine, too. 5.5 hours and still 30% left.
Also, I like the curved back and corners. Fits more comfortably in the hand. I would have been happy with a 3500 mAh battery.
Got my case today!
It came in this morning.
It fits perfectly on the extended case. Grip is good. Maybe white is not the best color of choice as it gets dirty easily.
Unlike the buttons on the S3 version of the case, they cut holes where the buttons are located making it easy to press the power and volume keys.
Can anyone report if the white tpu case is getting dirty easily?

sweet looking case!!! Thanks for the pictures. I'm gonna have to order mine now... I have the Anker two battery pack with the external charger but it's the stock 2600mAh batteries and while it's nice to be able to swap for a charged battery I can burn through them still in a day... I didn't want to get this case yet till they had something for a case of but the honey comb looks sweet so I'll probably go ahead and order mine too.
that case makes the phone look huge. 5 hours of screen time is awesome if only the stock battery could do that while maintaining a slim profile...

Alrighty folks i got my new Zerolemon 8500 Mah and rugged case i was impressed on the case design and battery, as you can see the in my pictures the battery is a bit more wider so therefore it will make the phone fell like a brick which i don't mind, and as far screen protector goes it's kind of on the cheap side for me. Wonder how the battery life is when you toggle Ultra power saving mode at certain times. I.E. while asleep, long drives, and periods where you know you wont be using the phone much at all. may increase the usage time by a decent bit. I get 2 days stock, when i toggle the Ultra power saving mode and i know im not going to use my phone much, i get 1 day with out using it so im happy right now but would love to have the ZL, if i keep my S5 long.
When arrived, I got 2 days 14 hrs with half battery. It was slow work day, so I didn't use the phone that much. Now it took about 8-9 hrs to fully charge it. So far, 15hrs with lots of transfer data from cellphone to car radio. with 67% left. I will post another update when I use it normal business cellphone.
