Otterbox??? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Accessories

Any word on if this notebook will have products from otterbox? I need the high protection cases.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app

I Googled that earlier today and a post on another site/forum said they got a response from Otterbox that said they won't support it. Kind of surprising IMO as Samsung seems to be the player with all the mojo right now with other accessory makers falling all over themselves to support them. I know these will not sell as many as cheaper tablets like the Tab 2 7", but it's still a bit surprising. This is a device that begs to be used by a more active/mobile professional crowd v/s most other tablets.

I'm not too familiar with Otterbox, but the STM Cape is a very well built and protective case (at least for the kind of case it is). If Otterbox cases are super heavy duty protected this is probably not to the same level, but I've been really happy and impressed with the protective qualities of my STM Cape case. Far, far more protective and durable than the Samsung Book Cover, and at a lower price as well.

Mybat vs. Ballistic vs. Seidio vs. Ionic

Hey guys,
Recently I bought this and while it looked great at first, it dawned on me that it doesn't tightly fit my device and the bottom part of my Nexus 4 has slipped out of the case a couple times..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FULL-BLACK-...959490?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item56513a4042
So now I'm hunting for a new case. I've had really good experiences with the Seidio case with my Nexus S, but it's proven to be rather expensive compared to what others have offered. Wouldn't mind going back if it's the only case of this category that is the best fit and protection for the device.
I was looking at the Mybat but was concerned about the actual bulk of the device, and it being easy to remove as I often take off the shell from time to time. Also, no one seemed to comment if the case interferes with headphones with L-shaped plugs either.
The other two contenders are Ballistic and Ionic, heard great things from both but unsure which is better. I did hear that Ionic cases attract lint very easily but I do like its price very much. Not a fan of the bubble-back design though. Heard great things about Ballistic, but like the Seidio case, the cost is making me apprehensive about purchasing one.

I have the iconic and thought it was too thick, so I ordered the Ballistic one and it's even thicker
I'm tempted to try the ACTIVE but I have spent so much on cases it isn't even funny....
Edit...I just bought it on ebay for $24.99 and free shipping.
When i had my gs3 i had a variety of cases including; cheap ebay "tough" cases with kickstands, an otterbox defender (never again), and a ballistic sg. The Ballistic is a GREAT case. It was sturdy, the phone would never pop out, the plastic was nice, and the silicone inner was much better than the plastic inner found on the defender. The silicon not only prevented scratches, but also prevented dust and any other unwanted items in. It almost seals the device. When i bought my nexus 4, i was very dissapointed that there weren't any decent protective cases out. I knew the ballistic sg was coming, but ive had my device since december and needed something for the short term... Something to get so i can wait for the ballistic. I was almost going to buy the case you bought, but i really don't like kickstands. I searched on ebay and found the mybat tough case, I bought it as it met all my requirements; it was cheap, it was protective, it didn't have a kickstand, and it actually looked good. The buyer i bought my case from shipped the case very fast to Australia, (which suprised me, usually these types of cases end up taking about a month) To my suprise, the case was really good quality for the price. The cutouts were (almost) perfect, the fit was pefect, the phone doesn't move about at all. I paid 15 dollars shipped to Australia compared the 70 or 80 odd dollars it would cost me to buy a ballistic shipped. I had the case on for a day, and I loved it...Until I tried to hang up on a phone call... the sensor on the lg is very sensitive, and this case just blocks it enough to stop the screen coming on. This fault was quickly fixed with a drill bit, and since then, i have had no issues, and will continue using this case for the remainder of the phones life. I simply prefer the whole case over the ballistic i had on the s3. However the ballistic was slightly better made, it doesn't warrant even a 15 dollar increase over this case. I love this case. (Note in my pictures the proximity cut out I modified) I did a custom design with sharpie marker on mine and it came out awesome! I wouldn't do this to a more expensive case as id be worried about wrecking it, but since these bad boys are so cheap, who cares. If this broke, i wouldn't think twice at buying another one.
Edit: This case also works with my energizer qi charging mat.
that back is awesome!
FYI the ballistic case works with the LG-WCP700 wireless charging pad. I do however find it is harder to hold on to as it's slippery compared to the Ionic. It's also larger than the Ionic.
I'd go with Mybat (because it's cheap and looks decent) or the Active (because seidio makes a good product and I like the kickstand.)
i also love the look of rugged cases.. been using them ever since my first smartphone
currently i am using this armourdilo case that i saw online.. it is available for sale on mobilefun website or i have seen a seller through eBay AUS...
availbale in a varieety of colours as well although i stuck the standard black on black ...
as well as many youtube vdo reviews bout it.. so i decided to buy it.. really good look and feel..

How easy is it to remove the case once installed? Plus does it interfere with L-shaped headphone jacks?

The case is easier to get off than my ballistic sg on the s3 was. With that said, if i drop it, it doesn't feel as if it will fly apart. The case has interfered with one of my L-shaped head jacks, and works with another.. i just use a simple headphone extender when i want to use those earphones.

Hmmm that might not fly then for me... I listen to music with my phone a lot ... my phone is essentially an Internet-enabled MP3 player that so happens to have a phone function built in lol.

I have the ionic case on mine wasn't too sure from the pictures but I like it and the circles on the back aid grip.
I also dropped it from about 5feet and it bounced on all 4 corners but the phone was fine!
Mate I answered you about headphones, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37912172#post37912172 :silly: I can recommend the tuff case too, it is a solid and very fair priced case.

Beware of UAG Fakes

I've been researching buying the Outland for my S4 and I was reading their site, I found the bold portion most interesting as I was going to buy from Amazon. This is just FYI for all of you considering purchasing.
Urban Armor Gear only endorses Amazon.com stores that state “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com”.Other legitimate resellers on Amazon may exist, but Urban Armor Gear can not guarantee their authenticity.
Any products sold on eBay or Craigslist are always questionable.
Avoid any products shipping to you from outside the United States (especially China or Taiwan).
If the product you see is not available on this site or the pricing seems too good to be true, then it is most likely a fake.
If you spot a fake, please report it to our customer service department using the form below.
i recently found that the "look-a-like" UAG cases are on par quality wise;
so why not save some money ?

You kidding me, right? If you referring to Obliq stuff, that has been reviewed by others on this forum as far inferior to UAG. I understand saying "buy another brand which offers a similar protection for less money", but to support another company that copied the design just to save a few bucks? I don't know.

Sorry bud. .but i have both. ..uag and obliq and i tell you that obliq is as good as. If it is inferior it is not buy much.
Obliq is even better if you consider the buttons.... way softer than uag.
Uag corners are stronger cause they are thicker.
So you guys can say what ever you want about it. ..but i have both and saw for myself.

The user pictures on amazon of the Obliq look like a dollar store case, is it really not?. I just don't know if I could bring myself to do it. I think if it were between the Obliq and the Acase Superleggera, it would be Acase hands down.
I created a topic in here about the obliq case with some pictures... take a look. It looks really good. .. several people who saw my case and my uag agreed that obliq looks better.
I know that uag offers a better protection. .. but not by much.

Buy the UAG, I saw some on Amazon for like $29 but why risk getting a fake when the real one is just a few dollars more. Uag is a great case, which is why you are seeing these similar cases popping out. Can't say how good the obliq is since I don't own one but seems to be a decent case for the price

I believe on this one they are both made in China. Spigen is made in Korea I believe whereas the fakes come from China as well.
In general, if you have the money, I would support the case manufacturers that support your device. This encourages them to create newer and better products in the future.
Take it personal for a moment. What would you do if you spent all this time on a product and then someone just ripped it off to the point where you weren't making money?

Verus Thor is the best case for the Note 4

there I said it.
-fits perfectly
-protects, like seriously
-not too thin, not too thick, just right
-not slippery, adds hand fitting design, holds well
-not fugly too thick for the sake of protection
-doesn't cost an arm and a leg
-isnt a lint or dirt magnet
-nothing crazy like waterproof or seethru
-protects your camera too, and front screen
-won't scratch your bezel
I just have to share this as many of you are still wasting time and money trying out diff cases. I suggest getting yourself a Thor first then knock yourself out with experimenting with all the others if you must. but for now, Thor is the best.
other companies really failed us on this one. they just wanted to release cases faster than they can test them out. turning us into guinea pigs.
Im sure that it doesnt have tech21 material on it. Tech21 cases are probably better than any cases out there and it has evidence with videos..
Pics?
I have to agree about the Tech21 case. I have it and it is light years away from the others I tried. Very nice case for the Note 4.
lol so superb
Agreed with LeoNote4 100%. I haven't removed the case since I got it. Much better feel than the Spigen cases. I have all of the Spigen cases and UAG Scout. May try the Tech21 Impact Tactical.
Anyone know if either of these will fit if I am using the OEM wireless charging cover?
Yes a very nice case and I really like it but I hate to try to find a holster to fit that.

Bought the Thor and IronShield Day 1 on Amazon. Loved the Thor soo much bought another. Haven't searched for a new case, nor taken it off since.

at some point, a company has to find the perfect balance over one perfect feature. tech21 major design flaw is it's design. it prides itself and rightly so on total protection of the device. this comes at a huge compromise in design. in addition to that dull appearance, the case also creates a lot of smudge from your hands and fingers. it gets annoying to clean up everytime and it looks too gross to show others.
users would find themselves looking for a case that still provides decent protection, maybe bulletproof is overkill, but just enough safety feature and still covers all the other points. nobody said its perfect in all areas, but what Thor provides is that reasonable balance in design, protection, grip, price without compromising so much on one or two features.
Bought this case in silver on ebay. Selling priced at $23.95(shipping included). This is the best one for the Note 4 so far

Umm except you forgot the fact that its thick and ugly lol. Rinkle slim is my favorite one so far. I mean I got a beautiful looking phone and I'm not gonna put that kind of case on it. But that's just my opinion.

I have the Tech21 Impactology wallet case and the OEM charging back; regrettably it does not fit but it's my favorite case with the normal back cover.
Can anyone using the Verus Thor case recommend, ideally from experience, a good car mount? In part because of the curved sides, it's difficult for me to judge the case's effective width use in a car mount.
TIA

only $16.95 now still worth the money??
I'm still a fan of the Otterbox Defender and the UAG cases. I have used both on my Notes. I don't mind the additional thickness in exchange for protection. I have dropped my Note 3 from chest high onto my concrete driveway with each case and the phone has survived just fine. I have gotten out of my car and forgotten that my phone was in my lap, only to have it drop onto the concrete. No problem!! I have seen all of the video's and listened to the claims of other cases, but I can personally attest to the fact that the 2 cases I have mentioned will protect your investment should you ever drop it.

[Q] Best extremely rugged case for Tab S 8.4?

I'm looking for a very good extremely rugged case for my wife's Galaxy Tab S 8.4. She's a bit clumsy. She managed to break the hinges of my last laptop, so I bough a Toughbook but she still managed to get a crack on its side.... She's dropped her Tab S and the screen never came back on. It was even protected by the EXO rugged hybrid armor case, AND it was even in her purse. It just slipped off of her winter coat on to the ground, and that was the end. So we're getting it fixed, but we now need an extremely heavy duty rugged case. I'm considering the Otterbox Defender or the Griffin Survivor. If anybody has suggestions, it would be very appreciated.
Try the love mei case for the 8.4. Most durable looking case I have seen so far.
Definitely an otterbox defender case. Not the Griffin. This is the best case for protection, and I love mine.

"Definitely an otterbox defender case."
I agree, definately klutz-proof qualities above all other models. Has protected my Samsung Note 2 phone from abuse that would crack a cinder block multiple times ! Phone works perfectly. To this day I am shocked at all the losers I see every day limping along with thier badly broken smartphone screens. People that accident-prone should be forced to only be allowed one of those "Jitterbug" flip phones designed for senior citizens.

Just in case anyone is still looking for a rugged case, I would recommend the Griffin Survivor. My 8.4 is knocked/falls off a 3-foot-high table a couple times a day, most days of the week, for the last 4 months, and has suffered no damage. I trust the case's splashproof qualities (hoping not to test the underwater qualities) due to drinks being spilled on the tablet while I'm working. The case definitely gets rid of any sleek/slim styling that the tablet has but it more than does the job. One plus is that the speakers sound a bit louder inside the case. Only downside for me is the limited space to insert a headphone jack. Only the skinniest 1/8 plug will fit the space.
I use the BobjGear Rugged Case for the Tab-S. Plus it has built in cooling because the tab-S runs warm.
I dropped my 8.4 in my Samsung official book cover the other week onto a carpeted office floor and it bent the tab just enough to break the AMOLED LCD (without, oddly enough, breaking either the front glass or the tempered screen protector I had on it). Given that it's costing me around 70% of the purchase price to get it repaired (buying a tab with the most expensive screen tech available suddenly doesn't seem so smart), I'm kicking myself for assuming the official accessory would be pretty rugged.
I guess the Otterbox looks like the way to go, especially now it's EOL and can be found a bit cheaper. Absolutely gutted. :crying:
use a dremel or similar tool, and make the headphone slot larger...
poetic makes some pretty good cases btw

[Q] Ghostek Cases?? Anyone have opinions?

Never heard of Ghostek before. Just wondered if they are actually a Case maker or just repackaging someone elses cases. As alot of their cases look similar to many others on the market. Reviews of there cases seems a pretty mixed bag. Was looking at there new Note 4 waterproof case.
There cases are average at best, they offer decent protection but its very flimsy and button covers too sensitive when barely pressed on.

I've never heard of them either. They don't look like anything that I would declare to be WONDERFUL or Supreme, but looks alright. I'm probably not going to buy it.
Yeah alot of their reviews seem a pretty mixed bag. Why wont someone offer a decent looking water resist case I just dont get it.
I just got this case last week...its a decent case my only complaint is that I cannot use the fingerprint reader on the note 4. Overall its great protection....better than the otterbox case. I also like the fact that it locks in the stylus.
Avoid! I bought the one with integrated screen protector. The side buttons were WAY too sensitive and the screen protector was a joke, being way you tacky and leaving air gaps between screen and film. Better stick with more reputable case makers. I bought several Spigen covers which are all much better quality.
