I'm looking for a very good extremely rugged case for my wife's Galaxy Tab S 8.4. She's a bit clumsy. She managed to break the hinges of my last laptop, so I bough a Toughbook but she still managed to get a crack on its side.... She's dropped her Tab S and the screen never came back on. It was even protected by the EXO rugged hybrid armor case, AND it was even in her purse. It just slipped off of her winter coat on to the ground, and that was the end. So we're getting it fixed, but we now need an extremely heavy duty rugged case. I'm considering the Otterbox Defender or the Griffin Survivor. If anybody has suggestions, it would be very appreciated.
Try the love mei case for the 8.4. Most durable looking case I have seen so far.
Definitely an otterbox defender case. Not the Griffin. This is the best case for protection, and I love mine.

"Definitely an otterbox defender case."
I agree, definately klutz-proof qualities above all other models. Has protected my Samsung Note 2 phone from abuse that would crack a cinder block multiple times ! Phone works perfectly. To this day I am shocked at all the losers I see every day limping along with thier badly broken smartphone screens. People that accident-prone should be forced to only be allowed one of those "Jitterbug" flip phones designed for senior citizens.

Just in case anyone is still looking for a rugged case, I would recommend the Griffin Survivor. My 8.4 is knocked/falls off a 3-foot-high table a couple times a day, most days of the week, for the last 4 months, and has suffered no damage. I trust the case's splashproof qualities (hoping not to test the underwater qualities) due to drinks being spilled on the tablet while I'm working. The case definitely gets rid of any sleek/slim styling that the tablet has but it more than does the job. One plus is that the speakers sound a bit louder inside the case. Only downside for me is the limited space to insert a headphone jack. Only the skinniest 1/8 plug will fit the space.
I use the BobjGear Rugged Case for the Tab-S. Plus it has built in cooling because the tab-S runs warm.
I dropped my 8.4 in my Samsung official book cover the other week onto a carpeted office floor and it bent the tab just enough to break the AMOLED LCD (without, oddly enough, breaking either the front glass or the tempered screen protector I had on it). Given that it's costing me around 70% of the purchase price to get it repaired (buying a tab with the most expensive screen tech available suddenly doesn't seem so smart), I'm kicking myself for assuming the official accessory would be pretty rugged.
I guess the Otterbox looks like the way to go, especially now it's EOL and can be found a bit cheaper. Absolutely gutted. :crying:
use a dremel or similar tool, and make the headphone slot larger...
poetic makes some pretty good cases btw

Hey guys,
Recently I bought this and while it looked great at first, it dawned on me that it doesn't tightly fit my device and the bottom part of my Nexus 4 has slipped out of the case a couple times..

So now I'm hunting for a new case. I've had really good experiences with the Seidio case with my Nexus S, but it's proven to be rather expensive compared to what others have offered. Wouldn't mind going back if it's the only case of this category that is the best fit and protection for the device.
I was looking at the Mybat but was concerned about the actual bulk of the device, and it being easy to remove as I often take off the shell from time to time. Also, no one seemed to comment if the case interferes with headphones with L-shaped plugs either.
The other two contenders are Ballistic and Ionic, heard great things from both but unsure which is better. I did hear that Ionic cases attract lint very easily but I do like its price very much. Not a fan of the bubble-back design though. Heard great things about Ballistic, but like the Seidio case, the cost is making me apprehensive about purchasing one.

I have the iconic and thought it was too thick, so I ordered the Ballistic one and it's even thicker
I'm tempted to try the ACTIVE but I have spent so much on cases it isn't even funny....
Edit...I just bought it on ebay for $24.99 and free shipping.
When i had my gs3 i had a variety of cases including; cheap ebay "tough" cases with kickstands, an otterbox defender (never again), and a ballistic sg. The Ballistic is a GREAT case. It was sturdy, the phone would never pop out, the plastic was nice, and the silicone inner was much better than the plastic inner found on the defender. The silicon not only prevented scratches, but also prevented dust and any other unwanted items in. It almost seals the device. When i bought my nexus 4, i was very dissapointed that there weren't any decent protective cases out. I knew the ballistic sg was coming, but ive had my device since december and needed something for the short term... Something to get so i can wait for the ballistic. I was almost going to buy the case you bought, but i really don't like kickstands. I searched on ebay and found the mybat tough case, I bought it as it met all my requirements; it was cheap, it was protective, it didn't have a kickstand, and it actually looked good. The buyer i bought my case from shipped the case very fast to Australia, (which suprised me, usually these types of cases end up taking about a month) To my suprise, the case was really good quality for the price. The cutouts were (almost) perfect, the fit was pefect, the phone doesn't move about at all. I paid 15 dollars shipped to Australia compared the 70 or 80 odd dollars it would cost me to buy a ballistic shipped. I had the case on for a day, and I loved it...Until I tried to hang up on a phone call... the sensor on the lg is very sensitive, and this case just blocks it enough to stop the screen coming on. This fault was quickly fixed with a drill bit, and since then, i have had no issues, and will continue using this case for the remainder of the phones life. I simply prefer the whole case over the ballistic i had on the s3. However the ballistic was slightly better made, it doesn't warrant even a 15 dollar increase over this case. I love this case. (Note in my pictures the proximity cut out I modified) I did a custom design with sharpie marker on mine and it came out awesome! I wouldn't do this to a more expensive case as id be worried about wrecking it, but since these bad boys are so cheap, who cares. If this broke, i wouldn't think twice at buying another one.
Edit: This case also works with my energizer qi charging mat.
that back is awesome!
FYI the ballistic case works with the LG-WCP700 wireless charging pad. I do however find it is harder to hold on to as it's slippery compared to the Ionic. It's also larger than the Ionic.
I'd go with Mybat (because it's cheap and looks decent) or the Active (because seidio makes a good product and I like the kickstand.)
i also love the look of rugged cases.. been using them ever since my first smartphone
currently i am using this armourdilo case that i saw online.. it is available for sale on mobilefun website or i have seen a seller through eBay AUS...
availbale in a varieety of colours as well although i stuck the standard black on black ...
as well as many youtube vdo reviews bout it.. so i decided to buy it.. really good look and feel..

The case is easier to get off than my ballistic sg on the s3 was. With that said, if i drop it, it doesn't feel as if it will fly apart. The case has interfered with one of my L-shaped head jacks, and works with another.. i just use a simple headphone extender when i want to use those earphones.

I have the ionic case on mine wasn't too sure from the pictures but I like it and the circles on the back aid grip.
I also dropped it from about 5feet and it bounced on all 4 corners but the phone was fine!
Mate I answered you about headphones, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37912172#post37912172 :silly: I can recommend the tuff case too, it is a solid and very fair priced case.

There appears to be a limited number of cases for Galaxy S Relay:
Incipio SA-316 Feather
Incipio SA-321/322 Dual Pro
Tmobile D3O
No name brand rubber case (but is actually hard plastic).
I went through the review and it appears that all of them have the same flaw. The front plate attaches to the screen using tabs, which then breaks after several months because it was dropped or bumped. So any case is likely to have this issue?

that's true of pretty much every slider phone case. i had a couple different cheap hard plastic cases on my droid2, droid 4 and now i have one on my relay. for me, having that extra lip on the front face makes it less likely for me to drop it when pulling the phone out of my pocket. and the cases are so cheap, it's no big deal if it breaks. just spend another $3 on amazon/ebay and you're good. or buy 2-3 at a time so you always have a spare on hand.
the shortest time i ever had one last on my droid2 or droid4 was about 6 months, and it was due to a particularly bad drop onto the concrete driveway. but the case did its job perfectly - sacrificed itself to save the phone. if i hadn't had a case, i'd have had a shattered screen for sure. well worth the $3 investment. that said, i only go thru 1-2 cases per phone, and i usually keep my phones about 2 years. i just got my relay a month ago but case construction seems identical to what i had on the d2/d4 - thin tabs to grab the edge of the chassis - so i expect similar performance.

I'm using T-Mobile's OEM cases for the Relay. They are thick and have that rubberized feel to them. They are durable and work just fine. I found a deal on eBay and got two for like $8.00. Not may other choices really.
I quit buying the ones with rubberized fell because they start peeling after a while plus the rubber picks up all kinds of lint and dust from my pocket. Also don't like how it feels on my ear and face during a call.
I originally got the D3O case that was the original Tmobile case. However the seller on ebay sent me a broken product with broken tabs. The texture was also kind of terrible like it had some sort of rubber fizz and it did add quite a bit of bulk. On the plus side, the buttons were covered.
I then got a second case from a vendor everydaysource for $3. This time case fit perfectly and did not have broken tabs. Durability of the case is rather suspected since it appears to be spray painted on rubberized pain, but it's worth $3.

s line case, Nillkin Amazing Armor Bumper,Samsung protective cover+
http://youtu.be/94QtQB9x2CE?list=UUACeOFuBKLUX5JzaYFqAwWQ
Thanks for the reviews...in regard to the Nillkin case/bumper...I only found sellers in China on eBay...you know of any US sellers or Amazon sellers? I checked both but didn't find anything...thanks!!
Yes your correct I purchased it from a China supplier via eBay. It took a couple of weeks to arrive but overall good value for money.
I have two of the 3 main cases reviewed in same colors. The Samsung protective case fits better than the Nillkin. The Nillkin required some excess removal around the USB and mics to fit without slightly pulling away from bezel near the home button and allowing light to peak through the USB port. The fit here is much better on the Samsung case.
The lack of side grip is actually worse and more like the Verus Thor case, the Samsung protective case gets more slippery when cold than the Nillkin case. The Nillkin despite its smooth sides doesn't lose as much grip when cold.
Also, the Nillkin case fits the headphone jack better IMO because it covers all the chamfered edges. Once I fitted the USB port, I could say that I prefer its fit around the USB port better for the same reason but there is some concern about the fit near the mics. The Samsung case fits the mics perfectly and tight and even accommodates the Verizon spacing here. My modification on the Nillkin is not precise so I think the Samsung case may actually sound better on a call.
The review mentions the Nillkin is easy on, easy off; exactly, but it appears the Samsung case is harder to remove than even the Verus Thor despite looking and feeling quite similar around the bezel lip. The Samsung case feels as if it needs to stretch to come off but less cooperative at doing so when cold.
Others have said the Nillkin is compatible with the OEM wireless charger cover. If so, the case may appeal to both the wireless chargers and frequent battery replacement users.
I may try the S curve case but would like to know if it covers the chamfered edges as nice as the Nillkin but also fits the mics as perfectly as the Samsung protective case+?
damn that sucks about the Samsung case.. amazon is full of 5 star reviews so I got it.. and now I'm reading it sucks. and i spent 20 bucks on that stupid thing. damnit. oh well it comes Monday so we'll see. I'm using the diztronic now and it's nice, but i agree with him that the s line case is great. I've got the same one, but it doesn't fit as well as it should around the bottom lip of rhe phone, and the cutouts don't match the Verizon one. also, there's no raised edge around the camera and i don't like that since I place my phone down on its back.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 using Tapatalk.
There must not be a perfect case out there at the moment. What disappoints me about the Samsung protective case+ is the cold grip and ease of removal. Your results may differ; hoping warmer weather improves the ease of removal. I do think the warmer weather grip is good. We've had a warm day and a cold day since the case arrived. The fit is as nice as the Verus Thor.
To be fair on the grip gripes, I have small hands and suffer from dry skin in colder environments. Both tend to make these cases cold, hard and slippery.
Thanks for the commentary on the S Line case.
The cases compromise one thing or another. For now, I can deal with the lack of grip of the Samsung case because it's minimal. Don't get bummed until you try it yourself.
I got the Samsung, and i have no problem with grip issues. probably bc i used the diztronic for like 3 weeks.. and the sides of that are slippery too. this to me is decent enough grip. I actually love this Samsung case. it's thin. feels better than the diztronic. really keeps the phone shape the same. I got the blue and it looks so cool

I thought I was going to buy the Tech 21 Tactical Impact in matte black today. T-mobile only had the mesh in purple; I tried the fit on my phone and hate the exposed chamfered edges near the headphone jack. Also lacks the raised camera lip. Disappointing. The salesman said the black matte case, which they didn't have ATM, would be identical in fit. Deal breaker for my pursuit of a better case. The Nillkin Armor bumper case and Samsung are the better cases, for me. The Verus Thor is third for me.
Next week I should recieve e.grips which I plan to stick on the Samsung case.
It's amazing that we can't find a great slim case with a good grip.
I was going to get the clear view case from Samsung but Best Buy didn't have any when i picked up my phone but they had the Defender Pro so i got it instead. It's got a antimicrobial coating on it i guess. I was looking on Otterbox.com and they aren't branded Defender Pro on there it just says Defender and they don't have the same back with the bars its just the standard back. So idk if the "pro" is a Best Buy thing or what
My local AT&T Corporate store had 10 Samsung Clear View cases on the shelf. I think it was $40.

Firstly great video, thanks.
Secondly, I never trusted cases with hard inner shells. A bit of sand or dirt will run riot on the glass back or frame edges of the device.

Buying a case from Best Buy is crazy. That should NEVER be an option. Their prices are high as isht! I saw a basic clear rubber/plastic cover on their website for $44.95. Many of their cases are the same ones sold by chinese manufacturers. They're just rebranded.

Good video. Here we are 2 years later; I just purchased this case for $17 from an ebay seller (still in its box w/ clip) for a Note 9 N9600 (International Unlocked) I bought a month ago (512gb version brand new in box still for under $500). Both the phone and case are great. The hard inner shell's inner back is cushioned w/ what amounts to a "mini-mattress." The case feels good in the hand. Only drawback is one can't see the phone's elegance... but for someone as paranoid as I am about a glass phone, that's a small loss. The screen isn't super well protected if dropped on an uneven surface where a rock sticking up or whatever could strike the screen in spite of the ridges at the case's ends. But I'm willing to risk that much; the rest of the case is great, and most surfaces I encounter are floor-like w/o rocks/uneven surfaces and the case would more than suffice.
For the Note 9 Screen check out the LOCA glue tempered glass option. It's about the clearest and best straight forward screen protector you can get for curved displays. I think it may not work with the otterbox due to the extra size protecting the curve. Personally I would stick the LOCA tempered glass on and then stick another thick flat tempered glass on top of that. It's virtually guaranteed people will crack these curved screens, and very expensive to repair them!

Okay folks - got the Otterbox defender today and can confirm it seems to work fine with NFC (Samsung Pay/Google pay) at local supermarket till. Also can use a wireless charger on it - but have to place the charger carefully in one spot nearly over the back cameras to work, so barely worth the effort. I can see why people rave about the case - its got a lovely grippy outer TPU skin and the screen is well protected by top and bottom lip projections . Buttons work great and ports are well protected. Makes the phone bigger but I find it easier to grip and use. I can absolutely believe it will survive any fall. This is well armored. Needs a Film protector for the screen though, I want it so keys and change will not hurt it. I fear a glass protector won't work, because its so tight and secure.
Previous phone was a Samsung Galaxy S7 in a clear TPU case. I dropped it by accident 1 & 1/2 feet off a coffee table and smugly thought 'Thank god I have it in a case not like those other idiots!'. I then picked it up and found it had hit a corner and the display had cracked a tiny bit and went permanently dark. Could not believe the phone screen was broken due to the tiny drop and being in a case.
Corner protection is essential. The Note 9 is massively protected in this. I doubt a 10 foot drop would hurt it! Well pleased with it! Even have the belt carry unit with it but doubt I will be using that. The case on its own doesn't add too much bulk and can still slip it into front trouser pocket. Being slightly heavier gives it inertia so it also hard to drop. Recommend.
A year later and this still is a great case for the Note 9.
Simply buy a cheap Loca Note 9 'tempered' glass screen protector, make sure its as perfectly positioned before exposing to UV, and the otterbox case CAN fit around it.
I have tried 2 screen protectors so far - the first piece of tempered glass was not positioned properly, I UV set it (with the sun outside) and a bit of the glass cracked off along the edges when the case was fitted (not the screen just the tempered glass protector) but it was still fine for use for months.
Because the glass protector was not positioned properly over the front camera, it didn't give me a great selfie, so I bought another loca temperted glass protector and peeled the old one off.
This time I fitted it perfectly. TOTAL PROTECTION. It's great! NFC works fine, Samsung pay, NFC tags etc....

I would 100% second this review. Having this case on my phone for each interation of new Samsung phone has been a must for the last 3 years. The best part about these cases is the fact i've only bought one case for each of my phones. They just last. I used to have 3 or 4 cases by the time i was on to the next model. Since, the Note wasn't updated last summer i kept my note 20 and the case is still good as new 18 months later (kickstand included).
Oh and for anyone wondering about screen protectors, I have had the whitestone dome on my phones as well with these cases and they fit perfectly.
I have the orange color combo seen in the last picture above on my note 20 and its still my favorite.
To start I have been using Armadillotek, now known as Caseborne for a couple years now on every phone I have had since I first tried their cases out. Being a person who is very clumsy and drops their phone quite a bit, this case has been a life saver. It is a heavy duty case without the bulkiness you get from an OtterBox. The case has allowed me to use any standard tempered glass screen protector that are compatible with cases as well. If you are looking for an amazing case that will protect your phone and last this is the case to go with. Some of my other favorite features of the case is definitely the kickstand when I'm sitting there and I want to watch YouTube or movies. And the fact it it also covers the charging port from any dust or moisture is a huge plus. Also you can't beat the price! To buy a case under $25 that has features like the kickstand and charging port cover all while giving you drop protection to protect your phone you spent well over $1000 on speaks for itself. You won't regret buying this case. I'm not big on leaving reviews but for this case I definitely have to speak the truth about how well it works.

I love it more than OTTERBOX
EDIT - Wrong review. LOL
Over all good phone case with few downsides. I’ve used this since the first day to now . And I must say my phone looks brand new under the case. I’ve dropped it on every hard surface you’ll see from day to day work. Day one I threw my phone into the stone tile at work for a co-worker with enough force to bounce the phone, again it looks brand new.
I've been very happy with mine. ArmadilloTek has been very consistent as far as the fit and finish. The buttons have a very tactile response, vs some other cases I've used that sacrificed the clicky feeling for protection. This case has managed to be very protective, while still having perfect access to the buttons. My phone feels indestructible in this. Two thumbs up!

I am glad you like it. Did you try the R series?
I've been using the V series for a few days now, and it's such a nice case. The kickstand is a little tough to get out sometimes, but once it wears in it's easier to work with. It def will protect the phone against drops and damage. I think between the R and the V, I am keeping the V on the phone.
The tank of cases. This beats other similar brands for durability and design. It even has a stand on it and screen protector. Throw this off a cliff, it will survive! Buttons are great, and have good feedback. Has a cover for the lighting port and wireless charging works fine through this case.
Highly recommended cases right here. top notch quality and great customer support. fast shipping. What more can you say. Thumbs up ArmadilloTek.

Where does it say it has a screen protector? Not seeing that..
Loving mine even though I don't do the kickstand, it is a durable and protective case for sure. Well worth the money! I like the black the best.
I have there Orange/grey case and I like it a lot, I tried the clear case with the rainbow frame but I found to slick to keep ahold of it, especially with wet hands and the car wash I work at you get wet hands often.
